You had me interested at 'co-op'.
If you don't mind me asking, what inspired you to set the game in outer space instead of planetside?

Exploration mainly. With a space setting you'll be able to physically MOVE the station around the quadrant and explore new areas, as well as send away teams to planets.

Another major factor is combat, you can and will be attacked by enemy stations and will have to fend them off, it's something that wouldn't have translated well to a traditional planet side game.

Third, novelty. The last space sim like this I think was spacebase df-9 and we all know how that ended up. Loads of promise that piffled down to nothing.

We plan on doing things right!

Is the game fully balanced for single player? Or are there aspects which are biased towards coop?

It is built for singleplayer and has added coop play. You won't notice a difference!

Considering the heartbreak that was DF-9, this seems promising.

I like this answer. I was thinking with games like Rimworld you had a map to explore, but you still had your main base. From the sounds of it you'll be able to explore planets but simply take your base with you along the way =)

Exactly! You move your base around the galaxy and send away teams to planets and handle any specific emergencies that can and will crop up.

Think "Oh no this sector has loads of iron but has regular solar flares" or "This sector has a pirate base, shoot", etc.

High hopes here. Not too worried about the success though, given RoR turned out rather well! :)

Posting to watch as well, I love building colony(Rimworld)/base(Oxygen Not Included)/fortress(Dwarf Fortress) style games, and I have a friend who likes building in coop games like terraria and starbound, but generally gives most solo only experience games like I usually play a pass.  I like Terraria and Starbound too, but it might be fun to be able to play a full on base building game with him instead of a game where the building aspect is just a side.

Then finally if the game comes to fruition I can be told I build too boring, efficient, and square in 3D as well as in 2D :P

PTW

Is it coop as in multiple stations with friends or controlling different people on the same station? I've always wanted coop rimworld, and when I think of coop space stations I immediately think of SS13.

Nothing like Rimworld.

That having been said, it looks like a promising game. Good graphical style, great concept, and the co-op should be badass.

Great job - I look forward to seeing how this develops.

Wow the demo is short. Very interesting concept however!

Anyway, airlock graphic in the demo is all kind of broken, from placing one to how it’s shown with the externall wall view

I found my primary problem was that despite it appearing to be only two rotations, it is actually four, and to get the proper outward rotation from initial state takes three Rs, instead of the 1 that it seems.
Wall and item placement in general is a little awkward, and that's just from the 5 minutes of demoplay.

I do strongly agree that it looks like it could be very interesting after development is complete.

I also agree that it's not rimworld-like. More of a gnomoria vibe, imo.

Promising, but a little too bare for me to judge what "real" gameplay will be like.

Just a thought I had, if I hadn't just downloaded it and known exactly what I put there, a file named "MS WINDOWS" would kinda make me think it was pretending to be the other MS. I renamed it "Meeple Demo.zip".

There were some issues with the screen resolution settings not staying put when I loaded into the tutorial scene, I don't know if that was intentional for the demo? Also after turning on full screen I couldn't turn it off again.

I had trouble with using the mouse wheel to move in the z-axis, I kept wanting it to control zoom and that assignment felt a bit unnatural. I also had to turn the Camera Sensitivity setting down to 50-70% to stop my mouse from scrolling too fast to stop on the level I wanted. I did use the control arrows in the corner quite a bit; I would have liked a hotkey to change z-levels (and also for recenter) but I didn't see any noted.

I would have liked more than the three zoom settings available; the farthest view was okay for mining but the innermost one was almost too small except for placing the smallest objects.

Using the materials list, white print over white walls got lost while I was playing in the station, while some of the darker icons were difficult to make out in space. This is probably something that needs a panel background to maintain its readability. Also, at the default interface size (which was okay for most everything else) I had trouble distinguishing some of the resource icons due to too-similar palettes, and I'm not one who suffers from color blindness issues. More shapes, perhaps?

We are going to launch a kickstarter on Sep 4 but are looking for a full release 2019. We've been VERY hard at work, we just want testers and supporters to get over the finish line. We DO NOT want a space base df 9 all over again so we're looking to get active testers, QA, and just knuckle down for a year(or 2?) and do it!

KS will DEFINITELY be lower than 25$ just to play a beta. I'm thinking 20 bucks for access to the game PLUS a full copy on launch, no sense stiffing people!

ALSO, anyone who gets access to the game gets IMMEDIATE access. None of this "See you next year maybe haha" crap. We'll give steam keys immediately after the campaign ends.

Thanks guys!

I'm working with Alex on Meeple Station. Making a simulation game has been my all time goal for game development.
We're thinking of going for a Factorio-esque sort of complexity level, but with the DF game type.

Here's a little screenshot of what I'm currently implementing. This is a little model so you can see a bit of the circuit system.

What you're looking at from left to right:
Solar panels -> rigging -> power cell (storing regular power) -> power cables -> transformer (converting power to advanced circuit) -> advanced cables -> fuel processor -> (fuel pipe - ghost icon on cursor) -> injector (feeding the engine core) -> Quantum engine core -> 2x engine ignitors

So you can see there are quite a few elements to the game that we want to maintain, to keep things complex and prone to disaster fun!

If you guys want to keep up to date just let us know. We're frequently on our discord chat if you wanna have a yarn and talk a bit more about what we're doing! :)

I tried the demo to the end, if that is what you mean ;)

I feel that at this stage it's a bit hard to get a good feeling of it (especially since the demo felt very structured in relation to bits shortness and as such did not really five you much time to mess around), but I as far as a Rimworld-/DF-like goes, I feel it has a lot of promise. In hindsight I regret not attempting build without an airlock or designating the walls to be destroyed or something like that just because I want to see what would happen. The idea of being a basebuilder in space is very novel, at least to me. Having the very area around you be "hostile" like vacuum is it not something I have seen before.

As for criticiam, the sounds needed polishing - iirc the sleeping sounds especially. The z-level layout and the "object see-through-levelsness design choice was a bit hard to understand at first but I got used to it pretty quickly, especially as you got to know the base.

Aside from that I'm mostly posting to watch. I'm interested and looking forward to seeing where it goes.

Hey everyone! I know it's been a while but we've been so busy lately working on the coop aspect of the game that we've gone dark!

In the past month we've worked heavily towards getting a store page set up (soon!) for you to get the game in your hands sooner than later. We've also been working on COOP syncing and networking, as well as a slew of bug fixes.

Another aspect we've worked on is the overworld map, you will now be able to move your station around the world as you please.

I've recently written a short bit on the many ways you can die in Meeple Station, if you want to check it out please take a look here.

https://steamstore-a.akamaihd.net/news/externalpost/steam_community_announcements/2403127338425684956

We're also working on a UI retooling (people said it was too saturday morning cartoony for their tastes!)

As always, feel free to join our discord here

It certainly is! We've got networking up, syncing up and are working to expand that into something playable in the coming weeks. Basically it'll be the same game, but with two players. If you've ever played Age of Empires multiplayer you'll know what we are going for. Two people, one station. Depending on how well it behaves we can integrate even more functionality as well (different players in charge of different parts of the station, I.E mining, security) who knows!

Their steam page (https://store.steampowered.com/app/900010/Meeple_Station/) actually has updates fairly recently; it also has a recent thread in the forums asking about co-op - looks like that's been cut due to technical issues. So the project is still alive, but co-op ain't a thing.

Perhaps I've missed something?  I don't know of any issues, a quick google comes up with nothing, and searching Mox Gams on steam beings up a game that seems well received.  Reviews of meeple station are mixed,  a buggy launch will do that, but y'all are talking there is a history with the people involved?

From what I understand the game is currently very buggy, and I'll admit I'm waiting for the multiplayer and a little polish before I buy.  But when has that been an absolute no-go for Bay12ers?  The home of leaving defensive fortifications for a sock, killer Carp and sponges, and tantrum spirals?

Er ... correct me, if I am wrong, but as far as I can tell the Kickstarter failed, so why are people pissed? They didn't cough up enough cash for the concept, so the team went ahead with a different concept and a reduced scope, financed by themselves.
Your post sounds as if they took the money from the Kickstarter and then did a Bait&Switch, which as far as I can tell did not happen.
