I LOVE shameless plugs.
I also do them, and I am almost slightly ashamed of this.
Seriously sometimes they're what keep FGRP alive.
In the future it will be all "Oh it doesn't even have motion controls" "Oh it uses a controller? Lame" "It's barely even 3d!" "You can't even see the sweat on mario's face!" "It doesn't support the google subdermal experience? No point playing." "I don't play games unless it's CoD 54 or up. You wouldn't last 2 seconds in the Saturn ring wars scrub."
I dunno, upon first seeing the rain effects in Crysis 1, I thought 'This is the point where game graphics reaches the final curve before obtaining the level of definition only given unto us by reality. The exponential graph has reached the final sliver and the final jump- the minute millenium, whereupon our rendering can only be made so much better, our fractals only so much more clustered. So is our kind doomed to ache and strive, burying all that we knew of graphics only to be perpetually
This Close to perfection- a milestone which could spell the doom of humanity if surpassed. Woe unto us, for whilst we believe that the golden age of games has ended, the truth we fear to accept is that the golden age of graphics has only yet begun.'
Of course on the way from my brain to my mouth it translated into something like "My F*cking God That's Pretty, Look At How Pretty This Sh*t Is."
tl;dr I'd still play Crysis and weep, and it was made in 2007.
Gap of 7 years. Go look at the original Unreal Tournament for a similar year-gap.
