Title: Diplomacy -- Movement phase, Spring 1903

Rules

The full rules can be found here (https://www.wizards.com/avalonhill/rules/diplomacy.pdf). A list of provinces and their abbreviations can be found in the back.

Here is a brief summary of the relevant details:

Game flow:

The overall goal is to control 18 out of the 34 supply centers. Allied supply centers can be counted toward this by explicit approval (PM or public) sent by each confederate to the GM.

Spring:

Fall:

Orders

Hold: The default order, this keeps the unit in question in its current province.
Move: This moves army units between adjacent land/coastal provinces or fleet units between adjacent sea/coastal provinces. In cases where the moving units are weaker or equal in support to the units in or bound for the destination, the order fails and creates a standoff in the targeted province, rendering it temporarily inaccessible to all parties. Units also can't trade places directly without a convoy, but 3+ can cycle provinces. When the incoming army has a higher support level, the unit in the destination is dislodged.
Support: This adds to the strength of a targeted unit, enabling it to dislodge other units or resist being dislodged. Support on moving units must correctly identify the destination to work as more than a fancy hold. Support can be provided without consent and cannot be refused but can be cut off by any attack, even failed ones. Supporters do not move with their targets.
Convoy: This action allows an army unit to be transported across up to one sea province per fleet unit in an intervening sea province participating in the convoy. The convoy order must match the army unit's move order. Dislodging convoying fleets or causing a standoff at the destination will cause a convoy to fail. Support cannot be convoyed.

Orders are resolved simultaneously. Since there can only ever be one unit in a province at a time, it generally suffices to specify the starting province and the destination.

They are gathered today to speak (and whisper) of alliances and enemies, of demands and concessions, and of armies and of fleets. ((48h without extend/shorten votes))

Here is Diplomacy-Archive's hub for strategy articles (http://www.diplomacy-archive.com/resources/strategy.htm). Many of the more common openings are explained along with the motivations behind them.

~24h left for diplo unless we get extend/shorten votes. Sadly, I haven't caught wind of any intrigue so far, but I can only assume it's happening :P

Clarification for those considering sending orders early:
Orders sent during this phase are perfectly changeable (in case your sneaky negotiations uncover something interesting). Next phase...
...if I don't receive updated orders by the end of the order writing phase, I'll assume the orders sent during this phase apply and send a confirmation PM accordingly
...if I receive orders, they will be final as of the last confirmation PM I send back

Neutral Citizens Contemplate Fate

BRUSSELS, Belgium - A crowd of nervous citizens assembles outside the Royal Palace. They demand to know what will become of Belgium should the English, the French, or the Germans invade. Similar gatherings concerning the possibility of war between England and Russia have been reported in Stockholm.

Black press, messages sent to the GM to be published anonymously (or not anonymously, if preferred), are now allowed in this game.

French Rep Macron says, during a public speech.  "Our occupation will be peaceful, to protect the citizens from the violent and evil German and British warmongers.  Belgium citizens will be able to sleep at night knowing they are now part of France."  Germany and Britain could not be reached for further comment.

I'd like to vote that weekends count for half time. Ie, every two minutes on a weekend counts as one minute of weekday time. (Thus Saturday and Sunday combined count as 24hr). I know I have less time over the weekend due to family commitments, especially over Christmas, and I imagine other people would be in the same boat.

BRUSSELS, Belgium - Unconfirmed allegations of intercepted Russian transmissions indicate the country is attempting to form an alliance with their distant neighbor, the United Kingdom.  An unconfirmed source alleged that Russia is plotting with the UK to liberate Denmark from the illegal German occupation.  Whether this rumor is true or not, Russia's fleet movements into Bot certainly seem to indicate Russian opposition to Germanic interests in the area.  The world awaits with bated breath to see whether the righteous Russian liberators will side with Freedom, and whether the Germans will visciously defend their ill-gotten and blood-soaked gains with the lives of their brain-washed youths.

It's jDip (http://jdip.sourceforge.net/), which works fairly well despite not having been updated in over 13 years. I'd considered using one of the web-based tools, but then they'd require account creation and stuff. Realpolitik (http://realpolitik.sourceforge.net/) is apparently another commonly used adjudicator tool, but it's not readily available on Linux, and the link to the source seems to be broken.

It's comes with plenty of variants too:

Forces throughout Europe, from the coasts of Ireland to even the mountains of Turkey (!) have inexplicably ceased hostilities. I'd like to complain that retreat and build are meant to be simultaneous. England had information he wouldn't otherwise have had when he placed a fleet in lvp.

Nevermind, reread the rules linked in the OP, apparently these differ slightly from the ones I'm used to.
