Post if you'd like to come! This is just so I can know how many people are thinking about attending so I can reserve a place at the restaurant.
The idea is generally to enjoy food, drink and conversation while seated at a table, but some of us were hoping that we could plug in a laptop and do an impromptu community fortress. This, obviously, requires somebody to bring a laptop, so if you are planning to come and have one that runs dwarves well, speak up!
About seven people, including the Adams brothers, said they were hoping to show up in the last thread. For those people, if you still are open that Saturday, please post in this thread too. That way I can get a good intermediate count.
Oh, and I'm thinking Ivar's because they have wireless. If somebody really wants Anthony's for another reason, then we can definitely switch. But I need to know before I make reservations. (It's not a super high class place, the only reason I want to make reservations is to secure the tables with the outlets.)

to bad there is this kinda large body of water, what was it called ?
atlantic ocean ?
it kinda blocks my way, and since toady hasn't introduced ships yet, and tunneling is not iner-regional, I guess I will pass
-
I am officially saying that I *MOST LIKELY* will be there. =p
That's a 99%. Taking the Amtrak.
Now, I need a cheap hotel or hostel to stay in (and not one of those seattle junkie hostels neither!) unless someone is setting up a 'community fortress' irl... ^^
-
My response in a you-tube video:
(minus the "for you")And let's go to the place that's most visible from the road. Don't want any lost immigrants!
-
It is easy to get to the waterfront from either the Amtrak or Greyhound terminals. As for cheap places to stay, check here:
http://www.hostelworld.com/findabed.php/ChosenCity.Seattle/ChosenCountry.USA The Green Tortoise is pretty non-crappy.

There's only 30 miles of water between me and you, Akroma...

Sure! I should be able to make it. :)
-
I'm looking at the Green Tortise website and it looks like I'll be staying there. Thanks for mentioning it.

I said atlantic ocean, not pazific ocean. Also I am not crossing siberia in february.

I'm coming.
-
Okay, that's seven total so far, including me. Anybody else able to come?
-
I'll be there. I'm making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS. :D

Fenrir speaks the truth.
I'd love to come but I'm still trying to find an apartment on the other side of the country, blast. Hope everyone has a good time, though. I wonder who will say "some migrants have arrived" when the other users show up. If somebody asks you to stand on a bridge for a second, just say no!
-
Bummer, that's what we filthy Europeans get - no Depot Access :(. I can find plenty other geeks here at the university, but none of them are quality DF-loving individuals. It actually pains me that no-one understands me saying "A vile force of darkness has arrived" when ticket controllers board the tram! :(
-
At least you have fellow nerds at University. I go to a tiny school, and I have NO ONE. There is a total of two people(Other than me) who know about DF, and I told them about it.
-
I'll probably be there.
-
Ok... plane vs. train...
first, look at my name as "herbdog" for a sec instead of Herr BDog...
um... any seattle locals be able to help me? (pm plz) if no, i take the train. if yes, i take the plane. if no one wants to answer, it's all good too.

aw... come on, please?
I don't know why I found that quote so funny LMFAO.
Anyway I live on the east coast of the US so I can't make it either :(.
-
Floridian here, not only is it across the country, I would also probably freeze to death.
Still hope this goes well though. Can't wait to hear about it :D

-
Yeah I'll be there.
I make sense inside my head. You'd know this if you lived there, too.
-
OK, the count is up to 10 now. I'm not going to reserve the table for another few days so if anybody else wants to come, post away!
-
And, due to work, and no other factor, I will be flying in on Friday, April 11, and leaving on Monday, April 14.
Woo-hoo. =p
-
I'll definitely be coming. I wouldn't miss Uristcon for the world! :D
-
My schedule at the moment is clear, so sign me up for this to-be-epic event!
-
I just had the best idea.
So I was thinking of having a Bay 12 kitty for donations at the gathering and telling people to bring what they could.
Then I thought of making the donation box an actual kitten.
Then I thought of making it out of clay, with no access to the interior other than a slot in the top, so to get at the money Toady would have to drop it from a great height.
If I went through with this, who would bring a donation?
-
Wait, you will be making a pottery kitten, then your masterpiece will be destroied by the toad?
...I can't be the only one who thinks this a recipe for disaster...
X
-
Curse you, Atlantic! I am foiled by your watery deeps! Unless anyone wants to pay for a flight across? :p
-
wow it's only a couple miles away, but I just joined so I don't know any of you.
-
I'm across the country. :( We need an east coast DFers meet up.
Someone has to take videos of what happens. Or, better yet, make ascii depictions of what happens.
-
and I've got a laptop and everything (mac though so it might be slightly diffrent for some of you)
-
Damn, I have to go all the way from south to north america :(
Unless anyone want to support the flight, I gonna pass this one.
-

This is an engraving of a dwarf and Toady. The dwarf is making a plaintive gesture. Toady is in Seattle.
-
I'll show up if the Adams brothers are coming for sure. I live in Seattle, so why not.

Damn can we get some more tour dates? Chicago??
-
We'll be there if the ferry doesn't sink.
He he, yeah, we'll have to do a world tour sometime in support of the game. Maybe when it's done.
-
It's a shame I've got no money for gas, or the time to drive from Spokane to Seattle.
-
berent, i'm going, and from Chicago as well. although i plan on flying, i haven't gotten my ticket yet.
if there is anyone else from chicago, p'haps we could jointly rent a vehicle. i do not have a license, however. i haven't rented a car in years, so i have no idea the cost involved. plus driving would take about 24+ hours.
-
My towncar would cost $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to drive lmao.
Did you ever play City of Villains dude?
-
In the spirit of things I will front the money for t-shirts. If you shoot me an e-mail with your sizes I'll have them ready by the gathering. I'll price the print shops around here and let people know final costs. Unless there's a great outcry against I might overprice them by $5 and donate the proceeds to the boys.
Use shannamzak@gmail.com subject: DF T-Shirts and don't spam me assholes. ;P
-
I want to come. This is, uh, for April 12th, yeah?

-
It doesn't matter at all! Come on and show up, winner, it's not like any of the rest of us know each other very well.
The total number's up to 16 by now. I'm thinking of reserving the table tomorrow. I might just make it 20 in case more people sign up.
-
hmmm.. i might have to show up being that im only 40 minutes away...
-
Looks like t-shirts are going to run around $8 a piece. Let me know if you want one so I know how many to order for the gathering.
-

Please explain t-shirt. What does said t-shirt display?
-
The back of the t-shirt is going to say Bay 12 Games Beyond Quality and the front is probably going to say "Dwarf Fortress Alpha Tester" unless I think of something more appropriate before I put the order in. Toady and Threetoe are getting personalized t-shirts, the details of which are top secret. I thought of putting the whole Slaves to Armok: God of Blood Chapter II: Dwarf Fortress on them, but my pockets are only finitely deep.
Where's a bag of holding when you need one?

"Losing is fun"?

Oo. I think I like that.
If I may, I would suggest this idea:
Front:
[big block letters, centre]
DWARF FORTRESS
[small text, right-aligned, just under DF]
Bay 12 Games
[on the left-side of the DF text, smaller than one of the block letters, you might have the pixel-dwarf with the pickaxe]
Back:
[Plain font]
LOSING IS FUN.
[ March 15, 2008: Message edited by: Lightman ]
-
I'll see if I can scare up the funds to go. I'd like one of the shirts, too. If I end up not going, can I pay you to ship it out or whatev'?
-
Let me run it by Toady, I don't want to cross any lines. It'll be cool to have t-shirts for the gathering, but I'm not sure I want to get into shipping them. If I do it for one person I'd have to do it for everyone and I have 2 jobs, plus school and a fortress to take care of.

Okay I don't know about the pixel dwarf, again colors might get costly, but I like the rest of idea.
But I can't even put the order in unless I know how many and what size!
-
I'm definitely buying a shirt! Perhaps there can be a "Dwarfcon '08" written on it somewhere?
Gahhh! there was a mudslide on the tracks up to Seattle. Looks like a 12hr bus ride and annother 3 hrs on annother train. But I will still be there!!!
[ March 17, 2008: Message edited by: PTTG?? ]

If there are going to be T-shirts, sign me up for one. :D
-
Bah! There where no rooms at the Hostel and no spaces on the bus. I truly wonder how this nation can function with such a derelict transportation network. Despite by best efforts, It looks like I'll be unable to make it. Those who are on these fourms know that I never use "smilies", so you all should know that this is from the heart: :(
Can I still order a T-shirt?
-
Last chance, if you are going to be at the gathering and want a t-shirt I need an e-mail with your preferred size by Sunday. shannamzak@gmail.com
-
So I just made a reservation for 20 people at Ivar's. The reservation is at 6:00 so we have half an hour to hang out and make sure that everybody's there.
They wanted to know if we all wanted separate checks and I said I'd get back to them in a week or so. I think it would be probably be for the best for us to get separate checks, but I wanted to check with you guys.
So, separate checks or no?
-
Someone buy toady a beer for me I'll catch you on tha rebound.
-
Yeah, I'm unfortunately going to have to drop out, as I have out-of-state family visting on those days. Waaaagh :(
-
(Off-topic fight removed. I3erent, bit of a line-crossing there.)
Are there enough people yet for it to be considered a throng?
-
Throng, mob, or waaaagh!, I want adequate media coverage in the form of pictures and such.
-
Has anyone informed the media? Channel 2 news?
-
Doesn't everybody have a video camera that can record six hours with audio in their phones these days? My phone is some years old, so I don't know these things. And there are nostril-sized web cams that can broadcast things through Ivar's wireless live. I don't know anything about these things either.
-
Someone should put a Big Brother style picture of me, Capntastic, up on a wall so I am there in spirit.
-
I don't have a printer, but if you email me one I can approximate it by a line drawing. I think I've seen one before (on irc or something?) but I wouldn't be able to do it justice after all this time.
-
If there is room, I might be able to stop by, I live near Seattle.
-
Sounds fun, too bad that I live in Europe, kinda far from Seattle...

From what I can tell there are 14 or 16 or something people signed up for 20ish spots, so you can come. And you can come anyway. I'm sure they'd be able to accomodate whoever, unless Ivar's feeds the extras to the seagulls.
-
Since there's more than seven of us, we qualify as a reclaim group. I wonder how many people will show up with odd little references, like pinning a piece of paper to one's shirt with [SEMIMEGABEAST] on it, or stuffing papier-mache !! !! into one of those beer-can hats, or just growing a beard. (Or drawing one in with makeup pencils, for those without natural facial hair.)
Oh god... I just had a mental image of a female DF fan showing up with the entity tag [SEMIMEGABREASTS]. Do I lose? I hope so; losing is fun. :D
EDIT: or [SPHERES:FERTILITY]. Armok I'm awful.

I think we should sacrifice someone to the seagulls in the name of Armok. You know, just for fun.

DO SO
-
You should have three toe write a press release and send it to all the local newspapers.....
-
I'm officially putting [SEMIMEGABREASTS] on my t-shirt. Its too funny to miss out on.
-
Hey this is not too far from home, perhaps there'll be one more.
-
hello everyone i have never posted here before but i think that dwarf fortress is great and would like to attend the meeting of fellow dwarven taskmasters at ivars.
-
We've got room for both of you, I think.
-
wonderful! excellent!
-
It's unfortunate that I am still stuck in school and a largeish family...
Otherwise I would try to be there.
Oh, and Canada is too far to travel from without extreme assistance that I would not be able to get in any way.
Such as a teleporter?
Anyone got a copy of teleport.exe configured for real_life.exe?
