In terms of mechanical power one of the things I was hoping for was that you'd be able to use it to make high tier stuff and maybe simple electronics of some kind eventually. Or to be able to make clocks at least. I've been wanted to build a house with a clock tower for a while now (when I eventually get back into the game and make good progress) and it's a shame that the hands on said clock will only be correct twice a day.

As for mods, they really should implement that mods that allows you to copy and paste your chiseling projects.

Personally I'd rather they lean harder into the fantasy elements. Currently it seems a bit half-baked, and I can only assume that's because most of it is placeholder stuff while they get the survival gameplay down. Of course, they did release a story update but I haven't experienced that yet, so I can't really comment on that.

The last game I played I settled down in a spot that actually had a lot of resources that I've never played with before, including a salt dome exposed by a natural cave right near my house and an iron mine not too far off. It's a shame I'll unlikely get that lucky with picking a base location again... on the other hand every other time I've played I found bees relatively easily but I resorted to cheating to find a beehive in that game.

Oh, and one of the chunks was kinda fucked when it generated, being in perpetual darkness with no flora unless I stood in it and did some kind of console command.

Been wanting to play multiplayer with my friends group for a while but with the Factorio expansion publicly in the works I'm pretty sure they're all waiting for that specifically to get back into factory stuff.

There is no way to appeal this ban? That doesn't sound like your fault.

I've played Wurm a handful of times but never got especially far. Overall I like it, but I was never part of a community that lasted more than a few days. The biggest project I ever did was planning out a road from the shore up a massive hill. Pretty sure the hill ended up being too steep but oh well. Every time my progression has pretty much been halted by tool improvements requiring animal pelts, and I've never done combat or hunting or anything so I've no idea how to actually get those without dying.

If you've got tons of free time or have youtube/whatever videos to watch then Wurm seems like a nice game to have running on the second monitor. A while back a standalone version was released but I haven't looked into it.

E: Also the existence of PvP where all of your work can just be undone by raiders is kind've unfortunate...

I actually just played through the game with dark fog disabled because I've never actually beaten it before. It gave me a bunch of achievements related to the enemies which is probably unintentional but I'll take it. Seeing how other people build their stuff makes me realize just how bad I am at these sorts of games. Even still they can be quite relaxing and it's always satisfying to come up with a solution to something without looking up a build for it. Even if it's garbage it's my garbage.

Apparently dark fog is very easy, at least on its default settings. Haven't heard anybody comment on turning the difficulty up. I did hear one person complaining about being instantly killed while travelling at warp speed too close to certain star systems which sounds pretty annoying.

I have not played since launch week/month and my biggest complaint was the painfully long loading times for everything, even on an SSD. If they've fixed that then I'd be happy. I also think there was some monetized thing for upgrades? I can't remember, but that would be kind've dumb if it is and should just be patched out to keep the monetization to cosmetics.

Old thread is here
Not as old thread is here

Version 1.18 came out relatively recently which added a story 'dungeon', but I haven't gotten around to playing it much. I wish I could more readily find a flat place to build that wasn't near the forest where wolves spawn. The game loves generating really 'spiky' terrain.

So I bought this since I had a bunch of Best Buy gift cards so I essentially got it for free. Really liked what I had played so far, but I've been jumping around so much I haven't made too much progress in any one area. I've done the main quest for the Rito but other than that it's been doing odds and ends in various regions. Haven't actually touched the Gerudo or Zora regions at all.

Then the Dragon's Dogma 2 trailer came out and I was inspired to go back and get all the achievements in DD:DA, so TotK has been put on hold for now...

I play with a handful of mods. Nothing too crazy, mostly QoL stuff like hud clock and prospector info, plus one that lets me pick up chests and move them so I don't have to break them and scatter their contents any time I rearrange my house.

Trash rocks can be combined with soil to create path blocks which increase your movement speed which is nice for making roads.

For trash you can throw them into a body of water, which will make them despawn quicker than dropping them elsewhere. Dropping filled crocks/bowls/etc. into water is also how you remove food/rot from them. Dropping hot items into water cools them down quickly.

Speaking of which, bears really need to make more ambient noise. They're huge omnivores, you should be able to hear them stomping and snuffling from a good way off, but I have lost track of the number of times a completely silent bear comes charging through the foliage straight at me. It's worse than a jump scare. At least wolves have the courtesy to growl and snarl when they come after you, and they howl so you can try to avoid them.
Again getting into the realm of modding, there's the Noisy Bears mod, or the no bears mod. There's also a mod that adds footstep sounds to mobs but I don't know if it works in the current version...

Wolves only spawn in cold areas that have "forest floor" tiles at worldgen. Bears seem to like to spawn in shrublands, where you see all those birch leaves with no trunks everywhere, but I can't say for certain.

If you set your starting point to be tropical the tropical biomes are much easier. Panda bears aren't hostile and hyenas aren't super aggressive like wolves, plus you don't have to deal with winter.

How much time are you spending around your base? It might be worthwhile to go exploring a bit so that all the crap sitting in your lawn can despawn.

ProspectorInfo is such a great tool, I can't imagine playing without it.

Basically, prospect with density mode. If there's no trace of what you're looking for you'll need to try a few 'chunks' away (which are more easily visible with the mod). Once you get a reading with the ore you want start narrowing your search in nearby chunks until you find the highest concentration. You want to go by the wording, not the number.

Then go to the center of that chunk with ladders and start going straight down. Once you're about 10 or so blocks into the rock layer go and mine 4 blocks out in each direction and on the 5th block use the prospector's node search. Each direction will give you a reading on how much ore it's found. You want to head towards the highest reading. If you don't get a hit, mine down 10-12 more blocks and do it again. The node search by default is a 6 block radius which means ores you find can be above or below where you search. It's possible you'll need to go quite deep to find what you're after. Once you find medium or high quantities of ore you know you're close to what you're looking for.

Make sure to lay down loose stones on the floor to help prevent spawns, and don't stay down too long, your stability drops when you're far underground.

Surface drifters have a very high chance of running away (and eventually despawning) but it's not a 100% chance. I try to carry 3 spears on me because 3 flint spear throws will take care of surface drifters. You can open the door and sprint outside, then go out and do tasks away from your house and by the time you come back they'll be gone. This doesn't really solve your problem, but it's how I usually deal with that stuff. At least it's not a bear camping in front of your house.

Also, you can use trapdoors as makeshift windows. You can poke them through it then close them so they can't retaliate.

For the umpteenth time, just in case (Since a few people seem to be playing): If anyone finds a server, I'd be up for multiplayer.
I wouldn't mind multiplayer. I'm not currently actively playing, but I've managed to settle down in a spot I'm... not super happy with but world generation is just so absurdly noisy it was the best I could find. I swear, the terrain elevation changes need to be looked at.

Anyways, I don't have a machine for dedicated servers, and if we did make a server I'm not 100% sure how often I'd play on it and what settings would be good for an MP server. Generally speaking a single player can pick an rea of resources clean fairly easily and having multiple players doing so together could be an issue. You could have people spread out but that kind've defeats the purpose...

Other than the horrible implementation of wildlife, what kind of brain rot led the developer to put midi horns in place of voices? How are people ignoring this? Does everyone play without sound on? This is awful.
It's strange because certain actions do make you do normal grunts, such as stabbing with a spear etc. I've found that 'oboe' on the lowest pitch is less annoying than the others so that's what I've been using.

But yeah, regarding wolves, it's really damn annoying that you don't get any warning before they hunt you down and kill you. Yes they growl, but that's only after they've entered death torpedo mode. The growling should come BEFORE that, so you have 2-3 seconds to get away at least... But, well, there are ways to sort of cheese them, whether it be the water trick mentioned above, or building a 3-tall pole and stabbing/throwing spears at them from safety. If you have more than 1 spear in your inventory you will automatically equip it when you throw one so you can rapid fire them if needed.

It's a shame because once you find a place to settle down without bears and wolves spawning around you the game gets a really nice Valheim feeling where you're just building up your homestead and venturing out is when you have to be wary of dangers.

If dealing with bullshit wolves and bears is ruining your enjoyment of the game then maybe you could swap the world to creative mode just so you can find a place to settle down? Unfortunately at this point it seems like the only other options are either dealing with the wildlife the way they are now, changing world settings or getting some kind of mod, or deciding the game isn't for you and throwing in the towel.
