Looks interesting. I'm in, but I'll do my sheet tomorrow. What he said. Except I don't have to say it looks interesting because I've already been behind the scenes of this thing all over the place. :P
Yes, we're still around. And occasionally we even accomplish things like this! Also we all watched Madoka together, so that's pretty much why this exists.

Yeah, Shuriken would count as melee, though they are on the edge. "Ranged weapons" is intended more for weapons which fire a separate projectile, since technically close combat makes just about any melee weapon throwable. They'd be weaker, but still far more frequent. Damage should average out over time. Besides, a sufficiently modified shrunken, or perhaps a katana I pick up somewhere, could parry somewhat well. Anyway, if it's a Melee weapon, then would damage rely on Bravery, even at range?
Shuriken would be weaker than other weapons, due to their small size, and it'd be hard to parry with them, but they would be a lot cheaper to make with Totem Manip than a sword or something. You'd get ten or so for the cost someone else might pay to summon a sword.
Missed this but you wouldn't happen to have the logs of that, would you? I love hearing people's reactions to that show :PYes, we're still around. And occasionally we even accomplish things like this! Also we all watched Madoka together, so that's pretty much why this exists.

Devastator, Nakéen, Twinwolf, and KingMurdoc are in. I'll get writing your introductory posts, should be able to do it before morning.
That was odd, she didn't remember anything about this necklace. It was quite pretty, though; did gem necklaces usually glow like that? This probably wouldn't help with the whole "rich girl" thing though. . . but that wasn't supposed to be a problem any more, right? Yesterday was just so strange. Good strange, mostly, but she wanted to figure out what actually happened. She couldn't have imagined Pumsy, because she actually got her wish, right? The bullies weren't bothering Violet any more either, were they?
After asking about that, make sure to go to class on time and such.
Asha didn't mind. She deserved it after all, what was she told herself. Attachments were painful anyway. And being around someone as horrible as herself would only bring misfortune to these girls... She did was envious when she saw them laugh and smile. She missed that innocence she lost on that day.
She clutched on her sisters' ribbon. Claire...
When all the girls were gone and only her alone remained in the cafeteria, Pumsy showed up with that "Why did you even pick that food" look in its eyes. Not eating a bit, she went back to her room to prepare herself for classes.
Then she left the home and walked toward school, on the way picking up newspapers to look for recent "unnatural" accidents.
My dad.. he was a hero. He died, but he died trying to get people out. And it wasn't for nothing, because I know it now.
And the captain.. Mr. Tanaka. He shouldn't get away with this. But no-one will believe me, I hardly believe it myself.
She looks down at her soul gem for a moment. Without this, I might not believe it myself. I'm still a kid, though, I'll need to have proof.
Meet up with my friends on the way to school and head to class. Ponder what to do for proof. Try to forget about things for today.
To be honest, Mina had not entirely expected it to work. She'd thought the wish was a fevered dream, or otherwise a hallucination. She'd pinched herself upon waking up and feeling literally better than she ever had, and no, she was in fact awake and healthy (also ow, she pinched herself too hard). Or at least felt like it, but for now she didn't particularly care about the details.
Mina didn't say anything to her mother just yet as she wiped away the tear - she just grinned widely as she lunged back into another hug. That ring - proof that it had happened. Proof that she would be ok, and that her parents wouldn't have to worry anymore. She heard both of her parents assurances that they'd do whatever she wanted, but right now, she didn't care.
After that, Mina would probably need to wait for her parents to bring her to the doctor.
"I'm sorry.. I was thinking of my dad. I've been doing that a lot lately."
"I think he may not have died for nothing after all."
Put on a bright face and have fun with my friends. Don't take things too seriously today. Go to vollyball practice after school.
Who knew food could taste so good? It was hardly a 5-star meal, but to Mina her breakfast felt like that after she realized just how hungry she was. She'd even asked for seconds - rare enough when she was actually doing well (who has time to eat a bunch when there's things to do?), let alone when she's not (bleh, just remembering how food tasted the last... she didn't even know at this point... *shiver). But this time she wolfed it down probably faster than was probably entirely safe, downed her drink just as quickly, and then asked for more. Then, doctor time.
Mina had been quite cheerful throughout the whole process despite knowing full well she was healthy. A check-up would be boring, obviously, but if it reassured her parents she could handle it! They'd been so worried... she sorta felt bad about worrying them, even when she was always assured that wasn't her fault. She pretended she hadn't heard the doctor speaking with her parents and gave the doctor just as big a smile. "I knooow. I'll be sure to wash my hands,
eat healthy, all the good stuff. I'll be careful, don't want to worry you-know-who more, right?" she said, the last bit fake-whispered conspiratorially to the doctor. She knew she wouldn't relapse - it'd hardly be a wish if all she got was a brief reprieve now would it? ...Although come to think of it, the only proof she had was that ring and who the heck knew what had been happening the last few- nope, nope not going down that train of thought.
As they piled into the car, Mina regained her high spirits... wherever she wanted? A girl can do a lot of damage with that broad a request... but she wouldn't, because honestly there wasn't a whole lot she did want to do in that vein. "...I've been cooped up in the house for who-knows-how-long already, haven't I? Is there a big park or something we can visit, do you think?"
^Make suggestion/request.
"Wha- But I already have friends. . ." she told the air where the girl had just occupied. She really wasn't a very good liar; why would she try to push Tooru away when she obviously didn't actually want to be left alone? A crestfallen expression crossed her face for a moment as she peeked her head out of the room, trying to see where the other girl had run off to.
Look for the ashen-haired girl - but only if I have time before my next class. If not, just go to that and try to think about where she went.
((I am really enjoying Tooru and Asha interactions so far. I can't wait for them to bond, laugh and suffer together.))
Asha presumably headed for the next class, except of course if Tooru caught up to her or something else unexpected impeded her.
What? No, this isn't how it's supposed to happen, I'm supposed to be a hero, and help people. That's why Pumsey came to me. Not hurt people with volleyballs.
No.
Alida breaks into tears as she runs out of the gymnasium.
Flee to another part of the school, but Alida doesn't want to go home like this.. Mom will worry. And the munchkins.
((It isn't 'this game', syv, I've had remarkably terrible dice for months now.))
Mina frowned - she didn't want to leave yet... but then she had an idea. "Mm... ok, Mom - maybe we can watch a movie together when we get home?" she asked hopefully.
I have no desire to become a magical girl that would be disastrous. However, this concept has me hooked so I'll be watching the thread if no one minds.
..."What?"
I'm supposed to be like this? I suppose it makes sense.. if witches are monsters I might need to be this strong to fight them..
..but it means I can't play sports again, not if I hurt people by shooting a ball or running too hard. I love sports...
...
Maybe it'll be okay. I'm sure fighting monsters could be the same way. I could run as fast as I want, hit things as hard as I can, and do some good.
Yeah. And then I can return home having helped people instead of having hurt someone.
"Yes Pumsey, I'll do it."
Wipe away the tears, get up, stand tall, and ask Pumsey to show me the way.
Tooru squeaked in half-startlement, half-excitement at Pomsy's reappearance. She reflexively reached out to pet the fuzzy creature before she could stop herself. She stopped, however, when he spoke of the threat that now apparently menaced the area. "Umm, okay! But. . . how do we actually fight it?" The girl was quickly realizing that she had no idea of what she was actually doing with this whole magical girl business. . . and also that the things they fought did, in fact, kill people.
Asha was stunned, caught off guard by the sudden appearance of Pumsy. But at the very mention of a witch, Asha's blood started to boil.
"Where! Please guide us to this witch Pumsy!"
People were dying, there was no way she could let that stand. That witch would be the first one to pay out of many.
Try to sense the witch.
While the movie was boring and a bit painful even, considering the memories attached, Mina had still been happy she could spend time with her mom. She'd almost entirely put the events of the morning out of her mind - so she was understandably surprised when she saw a certain totally-not-a-mascot in front of her, letting out a soft "eep!" of shock. "...So that wasn't a dream..." she mutters, glancing to that piece of jewelry that had shown up on her that morning.
As the thing spoke it struck her just how close she'd been to death... if she hadn't made that wish, how long would she have had? A month? A week? A day? Hours? She hadn't just been knocking on Death's door, he'd answered and laid out the welcome mat already (quite polite really). She shivered, and refocused. She nervously ran a hand through her hair. "I... I feel fine. The doctors couldn't find anything wrong with me either. I think I could fight... it's better to start easy than to go right from nothing to world saving, isn't it?" That and she needed to be outside. To do things. "Yeah. Uh... what do you mean by sleep? Like, would she wake up just fine tomorrow? And how long are we going to take, do you think? I don't know when Dad'll be home..."
"!!!"
Asha leapt out of the bench, clutching her soul gem, readying herself to strike.
"Get away from him! P-Pumsy! What is the meaning of this!"
That was wrong. There was something so wrong with "Pumsy", and she was at loss over what to do. Was it really Pumsy? Should she strike it down right there? Mixed feelings were preventing her from acting. There was only one thing she was sure, if this girl suddenly got harmed, Asha would strike without hesitation.
Tooru's hands started to slowly rise in horror at the ball of hate she felt in her lap - a motion that accelerated quite quickly when Asha shouted in her direction. "I. . . what? But . . . how could it be Pumsy? That doesn't . . ." Even if the creature was as evil as it felt to her senses, she didn't have the heart to actually attack it until it did something openly malign. As if in slow motion, her arms came back down and gingerly started to lift the fuzzy creature off of herself, raising Pumsy before her. "Pumsy. . . why is it coming from you. . .?" Her tone was almost heartbroken. Cute things weren't supposed to feel this awful. Especially ones that said they were her friends.
"Uh, no, that won't be necessary! With how you made her sleep I was a bit worried you overdid it..." Mina hurriedly says, before being left alone. Before she goes, she makes sure to put a blanket over her mother, and writes a brief note explaining that she's feeling sorta claustrophobic in the house and has gone for a walk. She wouldn't take to long and had made sure that she had all the right precautions! The note was just in case Dad came home earlier than expected. She hoped it wouldn't be needed.
After that, she walked out of the house (making sure she had her keys!) and into the night... now how the heck does she do this?
Mina tries to use... whatever senses she has now to find the other magical girls. Sounds like she'd be looking for two right near each other? If she found them she'd head that way!
Oh, I can't post for a few days. If you're going to update, what Alida is going to do is speed up further, pick up Pumsy (because why not try out this new speed a bit more), and then move towards the indicated location at top speed. She'll try to stop when she gets there.
Jeez syv, get some new dice or something.
What? Something's wrong, that doesn't look like a witch should..
Spin-kick the green girl in front of me. Use a lot of my newfound strength, but hold some back. Keep ahold of Pumsy.
Really, Mina had no idea what to do - maybe the magical girl thought Pumsy was the Witch and hadn't seen them before or something (like, just heard them talk for the wish?) "Hey! Leave Pumsy alone!" she shouted before running forward to try to get Pumsy away from them.
"I... I don't know either. That thin— Pumsy, he acted like the Pumsy I know... I don't know the truth, but if that was the real Pumsy, then he definitely needs our help. If that was not Pumsy, then I can't forgive whatever it was for impersonating him..."
Asha took a deep breath in, which instantly helped her calm her mind. And with determination filling her gaze, she said to Tooru.
"You said it to me, we are Magical Girls. We have to do something, and if it's together, I'm sure we can make it."
"Right." Tooru nodded shakily. "We should try to find that witch then, right? And then after we do that, we can see what's going on with Pumsy. Maybe it was just because of the witch?" she said hopefully, trying to cheer herself up a bit.
Work with Asha in trying to sense the witch.
(Er, Nakeen, Tooru never said anything about her abilities. She doesn't actually know what she can do IC.)((Woops, will edit comment shortly))
"What? Pumsy, why did you tell me she's a witch, then? You're a magical girl?"
-snip-
"I'm not sure. I tried to find her earlier, but you can see how that worked. How about we try it again together?"
Try to find the witch magically with Mina.
"Alright, let's do it!"
Help find the witch!
Asha stared at the wire figure, at the ready in case something even more unusual happened. Despite being together with Tooru, she couldn't shake off this feeling of uneasiness. This feeling felt disgustingly familiar for some reason.
She had never faced a witch before, but her guts were telling her this eerie wire arrangement had to be linked to the witch.
If that really is the work ofan enemy's standwitch, then there is no room for hesitation. Focus Asha!
"The street is deserted, I have a bad feeling... Tooru, I'm going to destroy these things."
Asha readied her ribbon, increasing its length, and prepared herself to strike the wire figures down.
Tooru nodded, a bit of hesitance showing in her expression. "I'll help, if - I'll do my best!" She cut herself off; this was no time to be negative. As she tried to psych herself up for what would probably be a fight, she glowed for a moment, and afterward a completely different outfit had replaced her school uniform. This one was a heavily stylized miko's outfit, with detached sleeves and completed by a quite massive ribbon tied near the back of her head.
Try to figure out how my powers even work!
"This must be it! Seems much more likely to be a witch than you."
"And where'd Pumsy go? I'd better hang onto him next time."
Follow the wire in the direction it is being pulled, club out. Keep my eyes open, but I'm too excited to proceed slowly. Do try to go slow enough so that the other girl can keep up, apparently she isn't as fast as I am.
"Yeah, it has to be the witch!" Mina says, as she follows after Alida.
To hunt the witch we go~ (by following the wire)
"Um, Asha, stand back for a second!" Tooru felt the energy built up in the talisman in her hand. They used these things as missiles and stuff all the time in anime, right? She throws the talisman at the other wire figure!
((Sorry for the late answer))
Asha was a bit too embarassed by her performance to look at Tooru. Then her fellow magical girl suddenly told her to stand back, a bit startled, Asha listened nonetheless.
"Ah, yes!"
Hmm.. a hardware store with a blocked door. I could probably just punch my way in, or vault past them.. but lets try something a little more.. active.
Find a rock or garbage can or something and throw it through the display window, and jump through the now-shattered window into the store.
Not having much to say and (somewhat) containing her excitement, Mina waits for Alida to break open the window (as she seems to intend to) before jumping in with her.
Asha felt some of her pain disappear thanks to Tooru's hug. Recovering some of her composure, she replied with renewed fortitude.
"Yes!"
Let's go, to the end of that cable!
Tooru also follows the cable!
"We must be getting close."
Asha closed her eyes, focusing on the oppressive feeling of misery. She attempted to probe her surrounding for the flow of emotions, hoping it would give her a clearer view of the situation.
Attempt to sense any surrounding misery, and presumably head in the not-lair hardware store with Tooru. If the flow of misery seems overwhelming, do not enter.
"I don't know what I was expecting, but it wasn't this. Is this new to you too, Mina?"
..Ribbons.. lanterns.. wire.. This must be a witch of wire and cloth. And shops. Many, many shops. The ribbons might serve as platforms, or they might serve as wires or chains.. hmm..
Throw my club at one of the paper lanterns, while trying to feel for the location of the witch. Try to stay light on my feet, ready to move, and catch the club upon its fall.
((Popping in to note that my response will be delayed until tomorrow night. Grant proposals and such, I've fallen a bit behind.))
"Spooky. . ." Tooru murmured. This had to be where the witch was; they radiated misery, right? And this definitely looked weird enough to be a witch's lair. From what she could see, anyway. "I wonder. . ." It was hard to see with all these wire things around. The main wire looked important, so they should probably follow that, but it could go right into a pit or something. And there were a lot of wires above too. "I have an idea!" Tooru squeaked, and then cupped her hand over her face after realizing how loud she actually was in the quiet place.
Tooru braces herself for a moment, and then tries to leap up to, grab ahold of, and climb atop the net of wires if possible.
Asha felt inspired by Tooru's initiative. From her position, she raised her voice.
"What are you seeing ?"
"This is a very strange place. I'll follow your instincts, Mina."
Jump up and retrieve the club. Return to the ground then, and try to seek out the grinding sound at ground level. At some point try to put my foot on the wall to see if gravity shifts 90 degrees.
"Uh... yeah, this is new to me too." Mina says in response to the first question, before making that observation. She sees the other girl's club, and wonders - is that magic...? She reaches out, and then she has a halberd. "Oooooh, cool."
Look for the sound! Oh, and stick with Alida. Keep an eye out, too! Never know when the witch could show up.
"Alright, here I go!"
Leap atop the unattached wire lump on top of the cable, and prod it with the club, seeing if there's anything inside it, and if it can be unwound.
Be ready for a fight if something happens...
"Okay! Don't get too far, I'm coming! Tell me if you feel or see danger!"
Asha knew she wasn't as agile as Tooru. And that annoying fence... well, that was the work of a witch, so she could go all out she thought.
Kick the fence down and join up to Tooru!
"This place is really tall! I can't actually tell how far it goes up. . ." Tooru peers down the street, while simultaneously side-eyeing the figure with the chainsaw. They hadn't been hostile so far, but. . . "The wires keep going down the street, and there are less of the, um, wire people that way. There's this weird machine, I don't know what it's for."
Climb through the wires, try to get a bit closer. But don't leave Asha behind or let her out of sight.
"W-what is this?! Let. Go!"
Asha attempts to lift the figures wrapping around her wrist, to smash them with force on the wires wrapping around her leg.
"H-hey, if you can hear me, come help! My friend is being attacked by these wire things!" She called out at the two girls she could see in the distance - they had to be other magical girls, right? She didn't have time to make sure; she was already climbing down to get a little closer. She had to get those wires off of her somehow, but all she knew how to do was blow them up, and she didn't exactly want to blow Asha up with them.
Steady myself, and launch a series of manabolts at the wires around Asha, making sure they aren't too explosive. Keep them aimed far enough away from her that they won't blow up. . . and also try to summon them in a way that's a bit more throwable, kind of like playing cards?
Leap down and examine the humming machines. What's the best way of taking them apart? If nothing presents itself, grab a rock or chunk of something and shove it down the input tube it's pulling the wire through.
"Hey... I think I see two girls over there? Pumsy did say there would be more, maybe we should go meet up with them!"
Tooru looked at the situation with increasing desperation. She couldn't just keep throwing talismans; there was nothing to hit other than Asha. "H-Hold on, Asha, I'm coming!" She scrambled down through the wires as best she could without hurting herself, and got as close as she could to the other magical girl without getting entangled herself. "H-here, take my hand"
Grab Asha's hand and try to pull her out of the mess!
"Tooru!"
Extend hand toward Tooru!
"Coming to help!" Mina says, before rushing over to the other two girls. When she gets there, she would try to carefully cut the girl free of the entangling wires. "Be careful..." she told both herself and the girl.
"Oh! Sorry, I just get so distracted sometimes. I want to help, really I do!"
Find the machine pulling in the wrapped up other girl, and just smash it full-force with the club. If it isn't apparent which one it is, smash them both. Then run towards the girl in danger.
That was better, right? She wasn't in the huge mass below any more, at least. . . but it didn't seem like she could actually help get those wires off at this point, considering said huge mass. "H-hey, come up here, please! I-I'm going to try something but it's dangerous to be on the ground when I do!" A definite note of panic was in her voice, panic that was barely controlled as she tried to find a way to help her friend. Tooru figured that, if cutting her down was too dangerous because of all the wire below, then she could try to just blow all that wire away, right? Even if it knocked them around a little, it was better than. . . whatever was going to happen if they got caught.
Summon another explosive talisman!
This.. this doesn't look good. Where to go next?
Kick off my other shoe so that I'm not wearing just one, and leap up on the mass of wire again. Stab the club deeply into the mass and see if I can get some leverage to start tearing it apart.
"I think someone's stuck here. Can you make it over here to help?"
Asha was definitely not in a comfortable position. That was an embarassing predicament, and she could feel that the wires holding her up were much thinner than normal wires.
She saw Tooru start summoning an explosive talisman. Feeling a bit restless and still shocked, she inquired with a puzzled and somewhat worried voice.
"W-wait Tooru, what are you going to do with that talisman?"
Listen.
Ah! That's the witch! Hit it! Hit it!
Panic. Summon another club for my left hand, and swing it into the mass. Use the leverage from the hands to pull my legs into kicking it at the same time. Do so with all the force I can bring to bear, and pull as hard as I can to increase leverage.
(in other words, kick with the feet, and then start whacking with the left hand.)
"The witch, this is the witch! She was in the other bundle hanging up here!"
"A-Ah! I'm coming!" Mina shouts, getting out of her stupor and rushing to aid Alida. She would try to get off the ground, and go for the mass of wires that was supposed to be the Witch with her halberd if she managed to get close enough.
Can the sixth sense thing determine if it is in fact the witch?
Tooru doesn't stop to speak; she probably couldn't have if she tried, being mentally occupied by too many things, things which included an increasingly large amount of panic. She waited as long as she could for the girl on the ground to move (who had apparently decided that the best way to respond to a shout to get out of the way was to stand there with a vaguely confused expression), balled up the talisman again, and threw it into the mass of wire below.
Try to blow up the giant tangle of wire below us!
Observe Tooru
That was close! Whew.
...I don't know what's going on.
I need to fight smart about this.. It started when I smashed the machines.. It might be controlled by the wires.. I should smash the next machine.
Keep watching the bizarre wire-bound man. Circle around until I'm between it and the humming machine. Then leap behind said machine and smash it. Try to use the strange senses to tell if that wire-bound man is the witch or the witch is somewhere else. If engaging the wire-bound thing, go for the joints, they look more vulnerable.
Okay.. it moves when I move. But there's two ways. Maybe only when I'm on the ground. Maybe not.
That said, there's one thing.. it doesn't matter how strong you are, once you're off the ground you have no leverage.. can't change direction without pushing off something.
Throw one of my clubs towards the machine, and try to break it. Then try to step forward and leap over the wire-man. If he leaps back, try to club him or kick him and propel myself towards the ground. Once there, run to where he's going to land and try to kick or bash him across the room, into something that looks hard.
(If you make Alida do all the fighting, I think she's going to want the seed..)
Mina, seeing the girl and the wire figures approaching that other girl, almost just dashes off - but she realizes she's just been dashing back and forth and back, and not actually doing anything! She sends out her senses, trying to use them to ascertain... she doesn't even know. The source of those wire things to try to help that girl? The Witch, since if that dies they're all done? Anything to give her some direction, although ideally aiming to actually help the girl rather than just leave her running between the two.
((Well crap, I'm really sorry for my absence of actions for the past turns. I was badly sick the past week and this week included, and just recovered. I should have showed up to at least tell you about that, sorry again!))
Asha's mind had been strangely away since she got freed from the wires. She suddenly returned to her senses, confused and in a panic.
"I- I... What happened?..."
She realized there was no longer only Tooru around. And that Tooru was actually screaming in pain, clutching at her arm.
"Tooru! I- I'm sorry! I don't know what happened to me, I -"
Asha breathed in to regain her composure. Her powers, she had to use her powers.
Grab Tooru's arm, and use Soothe to heal her broken arm.
Tooru screamed and clutched at her arm. The part of her mind not blanked out by pain regretted not trying to play around with her powers to figure out what they actually did before hand. Mostly though, Tooru simply wished really hard that the pain would go away.
Asha faced the crowd.
Ah... Thank god, she will be safe.
All her worries were now ahead of her, and she had to take care of them. She focused on the shape of a long ribbon, imagining one in each of her hands. Once she had managed to summon her totem, she lashed them with force like whips toward the incoming crowd of wires.
She had an idea in mind to take advantage of her seemingly harmless weapon and the binding properties of the wires. Once both ribbons got stuck, she smashed them together so that each entangled wires would form a bigger mass of wires.
The idea was to create an evergrowing makeshift flail of pain, and use it to smash the crowd apart.
Tooru just sort of squeaked and gasped as she tried to regain her breath, straining slightly against the other girl's grasp. She appreciated the rescue, but she could climb just fine now. Or, well, she would be able to, if her rescuer hadn't knocked the wind out of her. Eventually, she managed to gasp out a response. "You can put me down now. . . I need to get back and help Asha."
Try to get my rescuer to set me down.
Uhhhh
Crap.
Mina restrained her panic as her plan had little to no effect, with some success - she had to focus. She had other powers, that she hadn't tapped yet, right? Maybe it was time to try one out?
Maybe... she had to keep them off of the others, right? She thought she had a way to do that. She could... she could make a copy of herself, yes! She did just that, making a copy of herself as best she could in roughly the same position as herself. She tried to have it run off in the other way as her and generally make itself a distracting target to the crowd, while trying to make her own way over to the others.
This is fun. I could get used to this.
Move towards the running machine and break it. Keep my face towards the wire-man. If it leaps towards me or comes at me, change directions and slide below it, aiming for a blow to the exposed joints.
((Interesting, yet expected mechanics. Asha may be closer to the edge than I thought!))Mina nods vigorously, as her clone continues trying to run a distraction. "Yep! I'm a magical girl too! Oh, and you should watch out - the Witch can make copies of us, we think.
Having arrived to Mina's height, Asha asked her:
"Who are you? Are you with that girl with the blond hair?"
Mina nods vigorously, as her clone continues trying to run a distraction. "Yep! I'm a magical girl too! Oh, and you should watch out - the Witch can make copies of us, we think."I'm a magical girl too... but what about that blond-"
...Not like that one. I made that one."
Bodies. Are disposable. Do not trust a friend's body, only her soul. A battle can be few souls, but many bodies. The body that holds your soul is not different from the others, it too is disposable. Bodies are disposable, and can be made easily, but do not waste them casually. Every action. Has a price. Pray that you earn enough to survive your actions.
"H--Help!"
I'll need a new trick this time. It caught my club last time.. lets see if it keeps doing that.
Throw a club at it, and start moving towards the monster, summoning a new club to throw at it again. Get it to grab the clubs twice over, hopefully keeping it's hands busy, and summon a third club to hit it. Try to aim for one of the swollen joints.
Tooru started to struggle in earnest against the girl's grip. "No, really, let me go! She's my friend, I don't care if it's safer or not!" There was clearly something seriously wrong here. "Put me down or I'll fight you for real!" The quaver in her voice betrayed the fear her words didn't indicate. Not that what she did next didn't do so much more. "ASHA! HELP!" Tooru shouted down toward Asha as loud as she could, and started to prepare another set of three talismans.
Mina nods vigorously, as her clone continues trying to run a distraction. "Yep! I'm a magical girl too! Oh, and you should watch out - the Witch can make copies of us, we think."I'm a magical girl too... but what about that blond-"
...Not like that one. I made that one."
[GM input required] If Asha is "close" enough to pick up Tooru's voice, she turns toward the source of the voice with her heartbeat suddenly accelerating.
She then attempts to rush for the place, not before telling to Mina that her friend needs help.
If not, she continues her sentence.
"What about that blond girl that took my friend to safety? Is she with you?"
I don't know?
((My bad there - I'd meant to post again when Nakeen made it clear what they were going to do, having forgotten they'd already done that in their post. Completely my fault.))
"I-I'm sorry, it's just... everything is overwhelming... do you need help? I think we need to hurry up if we want to reach them, they're going farther away, and-and I'm sorta panicking right now and..." She takes a deep breath. "We're both magical girls, right? So I think that means we're really agile, we can get up there without having to worry about falling as long as we're a little careful!"
Help her! We need to get up after them as fast as we can, but without falling. Try to use senses to find the safest/fastest path, if they can do that! Also if the decoy is still doing it's thing, have it keep doing that so the wires don't follow us, if they can .
Asha, with all her focus turned toward not falling, answers with a shaking voice:
"I-I may be a m-magical girl, but I a- aaaah."
She attempts to stabilize herself.
"I'm disastrously clumsy."
The more minutes pass, the more a feeling of helplessness fills Asha's heart. She tries not to think about it, not to think of the word useless. If she does, she won't be able to help Tooru. Asha looks upward, then toward Mina. She notices her panic, but is herself too worried about Tooru to think of delving more into the source of the girl's panic.
"I won't be able to do it alone..."
Then Mina lended her a hand, Asha was deeply grateful.
"Thank you so much... We must hurry!"
With the help of Mina, get to Tooru's location quickly -and preferably safely-!
Tooru squirmed a bit more, trying to dislodge the girl's grip. If girl was even the right word. . . She was scared, this person thing was scary and probably not a person and she still couldn't get free and everything was just so much more awful than she expected so far. Panic starting to set in, Tooru grabbed one of her talismans and, trying not to put too much energy in, slammed it onto - and hopefully into - her captor's leg.
Left alone and fighting, Alida was worried.. and then resolved. This was supposed to be a team thing, she didn't come in here alone. Never mind, though, if nobody will help her, then she'll have to help herself.
kick the creature to pull the wires taut, and start rotating around it. I want to wrap it tight inside it's own wires, tight enough to injure. At the same time, summon an effigy to go kill the working machine.
((I am indeed not taking waitlisters, though technically there's a person who's been selected to replace the first death.))
Okay, you weren't so tough in the air before, lets try that again.
...aaalmost time to panic. Lets have the free body go low under the creature, going for the base of the machine, and attempting to sever it from the ground, knocking the monster's perch out from under it, and then leap up into the air. Then when the perch slides out, the wrapped body pulls in the opposite direction, hard, moving to kick it upwards, towards the other body, which is in position to smash it down towards the ground.
Tooru screamed at the top of her lungs. There were so many things about this that weren't okay, and somehow her suspicions being proven made it even scarier. She had almost hoped that she was wrong and she was attacking some misguided girl instead of. . . this. The girl barely retained the presence of mind to smash both of her remaining talismans into her "rescuer;" one into her shoulder, and one into the small of her back.
((Sorry that we can't help Devastator, bit busy ;-;))
That does not sound good, nope not at all.
Pursue, and assist Asha if she does something.
(Any ideas for a distraction? Something to slow it down?)
Asha's mind became blank as she heard the scream. If only there was a way for them to reach that place faster... She cursed herself for being such a klutz.
An idea dawned on her. Not a good one, but an idea nonetheless.
"I am too much of a drag, we will never reach that place in time together. But by you, alone, you have better chances than I. I may have an idea to give you a speed boost, will you trust me? There is no time."
Tell to Mina her crazy plan. With her above average strength, Ashe will throw Mina upward, toward the scream. Hopefully that will help Mina get there faster...
"S-She's alive! I can h-hear her heartbeat! We need to do something and fast!"
((I am indeed not taking waitlisters, though technically there's a person who's been selected to replace the first death. A fifth slot will open after this witch is dead, and one person will be selected for it the same way the first four players were selected. That char will be a bit different from the others though, a girl who hasn't made her wish yet.I'm interested on the slot for a wishless character. Could you explain how to make a character for this please?
...I should probably make a post explaining how to make a char for that slot. That way people can make sheets early, and won't feel rushed. Yeah, I'll do that sometime over the next few days.))
..bastard..
"Where are you, why did you ditch me here? Couldn't spend one moment helping me fight.. too busy following and running away and jumping, not doing things.."
Escape from here, and regroup with the other girls, as best as I can find them, through the telepathic contacts and the magical senses.
Crap crap crap crap crap
Not good. Not good not good! She had no idea where the thing that took her - it wasn't Alida, couldn't have been, Alida wouldn't have done something like that right? Right? She didn't know her but she didn't seem murderous! Mostly!
Focus, Focus! She's alive, she's alive, she's probably unconcious so you can save her you're MAGIC for crying out loud!
"S-She's alive! I can h-hear her heartbeat! We need to do something and fast!"
Standby action if I can't think of something better later/after interaction (learning from mistakes!) - try to get her down ASAP to Tooru, assist if possible, she's alive and that means we can save her!
The moment she saw Tooru's lifeless body, Asha's emotions disappeared. Fear, sadness, courage... All were gone.
It was like that day. Everyone she cared about died, and she just stood there, watching. And today, it happened again. It was her fault, it was-"S-She's alive! I can h-hear her heartbeat! We need to do something and fast!"
Alive. She heard it right. Alive. Which mean there was hope. She managed to do something when Tooru's arm was broken, maybe she could still save the girl...
Asha recovered her spirit.
"I am a magical girl." she muttered.
Lifting her head toward Mina, she shouted at the top of her lungs:
"Tooru! Hang in there!"
Run toward Mina and Tooru's location, and put my hands on Tooru. Focus your energy, wish for her wellbeing, hug her... Do something with your powers Asha!
[While doing that, Asha's mind was filled with only one though "I must save her, even if it costs me my life..."]
Tooru wanted to cry, but seemingly had no eyes with which to do so. Was she really dead? Already? But she was only thirteen. . . This was her first witch hunt. She hadn't even gotten killed by the witch or its minions; she'd blown herself up like some stupid cartoon character. She moped for a moment or three (it was hard to tell,) drifting aimlessly in this non-place. A notion came to her after some indeterminate time; maybe she could somehow. . . go back? She was magical, now, all.
Try to go back to reality. Focus on trying to move something, even though I can't actually feel anything.
Alida gives one last thought to her comrade.. "I hope you've been doing better than I have."
Smile. Don't let the creature have the satisfaction of seeing me hurt. You know, more than I already am.
Put down the club with the less-injured body, and pick up the original. Remove my soul gem from my breast, and pin it on the less injured body. Keep the more injured one looking at the wire man intently, while smiling. Then throw her, aiming for the creature's legs first. As she flies, she will try to give the creature one last blow with her feet. The less injured body, with the soul gem, will look for a chance to fling her club into the machine. If no opportunity presents itself, she will try to centre herself and recover her balance. If the thrown body gets mangled, drop the effigy, and simply leave Alida with the one, less injured body.
"R-Right! I'm coming as soon as I can!" Mina stammered. "Um, red person?" she asked the one on her shoulder, "Do you think you can balance? I need to go help her, and I'm not sure you should be running around a lot right after being healed from those kinds of wounds..."
If Tooru can move, then put her down such that she can balance and try to run to aid Alida. Else, try to pass her off to Asha before doing the same.
Asha felt her tears building up. She was going to hug Tooru when a voice disturbed her relief.
[What is that?...] she thought, and then Tooru mentioned this voice was similar to that of her kidnapper. It instantly made her raise her vigilance. The enemy was still around. The one that nearly killed Tooru.
This mere thought made Asha furious, burning with rage.
Then she noticed Mina's distress.
"I will take care of Tooru! Quick, go help your friend! I will try to find a way to support you without endangering Tooru."
Remain close to Tooru, and potentially move together toward Alida's location to support her.
"Umm, I'll try to help too! I'm fine!" Which wasn't entirely a lie. She didn't feel messed up despite her near-death (or death-and-resurrection?) experience on the physical side, but the veneer of cheeriness was starting to become more and more forced. What was she doing here? She had almost died already, and had basically only hurt herself and Asha instead of helping anyone.
She supposed she could at least help distract whatever other monsters lay in wait, if nothing else.
Follow the green girl.
"R-Right!" She had to make it right, but rushing in was probably stupid. <Uh... do you two think you could watch our backs? If you don't feel like you can fight after what happened...>
Assist Alida! Try to kill the wire thing (carefully - don't want to rush in and get mulched) and find a way to break the machines. Can the magic-sense find a weak spot, or see if this is the Witch?
Alida breaks down for a moment at seeing the other girls.
"Thank you, oh thank you, you came here in time. The wire creature there almost killed me."
Stop the machine, with either or both bodies, whatever can do it. After doing so, drop Effigy, removing the more wounded body and collapse.
"G-Get away from her! I blew up one of you already, I'm not afraid to do it again," Tooru lied blatantly, shouting at the bloodstained girl. The quaver in her voice would have made the greatest opera singer jealous, if only it were controlled and not a result of the girl being quite ready to start screaming and flailing about at the slightest provacation.
Ready another talisman!
<You tried to kidnap me! Or, something that looked like you but was made of these horrible wire things like everything else here. I think it's gone now, though. . .>
As an addition, stay alert for any further threats.
<There is no freedom... just false hope.>
The many scimitars stab forward together, too many to count stabbing into your body from every angle, before withdrawing and repeating. They barely hurt, compared to the prior agonies you've suffered, but they steal your breath as they open your lungs, and you can feel as your body starts shutting down from the extreme damage. Darkness eats at the edges of your vision, and you start to panic.
Are they just going to keep getting bigger until I fall? There has to be an end to them..
Time to regroup with the other girls. Do so by launching myself full-speed towards the giant spider. Try to break one of the legs that's attached to the ground, aiming at the end near the thorax. After doing so, launch myself up high into the air, towards a wire to grab. This should get me clear of the creature should the other girls attack it, while forcing the spider to continue splitting its attention.
Tooru, already on edge, screamed when the thing dropped, crumpling and whipping her talisman at the spider-thing without much of anything resembling aim. Unfortunately, her first urge after that was to run away, a reflex that might have perhaps been slightly more useful were she on solid ground. As it were, she had to attempt to catch herself after she began to start obeying instinct and quickly found a lack of ground to place a foot; if she could actually manage to get ahold of herself and not fall to the ground, she'd try to get more of a height advantage on the thing and summon another talisman.
Mina takes a moment to steady herself, having stumbled back as the spider dropped - another monster... was this it? Would they finally be done with this when this died? Well, she didn't know, but she certainly wasn't gonna just sit around. She dashed forward, intending to strike at one of the stuck legs, doing what damage she could before it is freed and she retreats, ideally up to the wires and in range to assist and be assisted by the others.
((@RGU Your sheet looks good! The only comment I have is that Aleksandra's Motivation doesn't seem quite right; motivation is supposed to be what she'd be fighting for as a magical girl. Why she would risk death in labyrinths, and not just ignore Pumsy. "Payment for her wish" would work fine, though it's a bit uninventive, as would "because she gets to feel like a super-hero". It's a less important trait for a ward, but still helps explain her personality to me.))She isn't really sure for what she would fight for, and it's also one of the main reasons she hasn't wished yet. When she finds a wish that would be worth risking her life for, her motivation will change. For now, it's just left as payment/feel like a hero because she doesn't know what would motivate her enough to make a wish and fight witches yet. Also Sasha is very indecisive and scatterbrained, which doesn't help with the what-to-wish-for problem. Once she knows about the risks and rewards of beign a magical girl, she will know what to wish for.
Alida looks at Mina for a moment, and happiness shines on her eyes, followed by just a touch of wetness in relief as she stands up, out of her friend's arms.
"You came back. Thank you, thank you."
"Now lets kill this thing." Alida then assesses her wounds a little further. "In a moment."
Try to assess how wounded the monster is, as well as if this is finally, truly, the witch, and how best to kill it. Charge in if the barrage of explosive manabolts from Toroo ceases, but just hold back if the string of them continues. An attack can wait until Alida is no longer the creature's primary concern.
"Can we call this an apology for earlier?" Mina half-jokes, before hefting her halberd again and turning to the spider-monster-thing.
Coordinate attack with Alida - don't want to be getting in each other's ways, after all. Aim for the legs, to try to either slow it down or reduce it's options for attack.
Deep breaths. That was supposed to calm you down, right? She needed to help, she couldn't just run away screaming. She signed up for this, and she had to fight now. This thing was responsible for all of the awful things that had happened today alongside who knew what else, and she wasn't going to let it get away from her or hurt her friends! She clambered over, getting more directly above it, and summoning a set of three more talismans as she went. Four was death, and death was what she was going to give this thing.
Start throwing talismans with as much power as I can manage at it, whenever I think I can get a good shot. Go for a hit now, aiming center-of-mass, and then wait for it to be distracted before continuing my assault.
as much power as I can manage
"Please, h-help I, stay with they, they c-can't win, don't leave... Asha?"
The raging sounds of battle echoed below and above. The cold sensation of the wire was felt in her hands with each heartbeat.
Asha was frozen in fear midway through her climb, still clinging to some precarious wires.
For a reason she could not explain, the fear she felt was exacerbated. Like a wound that had been reopened under stress. She felt herself waning, even though she had been filled with determination minutes ago.
She hadn't noticed, but the light of her gem was glowing with a dull light. Her body felt heavy. Her mind lethargic. As if an insidious force was slowly taking away her grasp on reality."Please, h-help I, stay with they, they c-can't win, don't leave... Asha?"
Her name?...
A voice called for her name.
A faint beacon of light shining with an unknown blaze amidst the darkness that enshrouded her vision and mind.
"Mustn't... give up..." Asha muttered to herself.
Asha attempts to muster enough fortitude to fight off her fear and heavy body. Where she to succeed, her priority would be to fend off close range attackers from Tooru with knockbacking attacks on would be assailants.
In the event everything would fail and a girl's life would be in danger, she would burn the energy of her Soul Gem to increase her abilities <Mobility and Close Combat> to join up the fight.
Crap! Now I'm the one with no leverage. Gotta think fast..
Pull on the wire below me to get closer to the monster and gain a little slack in the wire. Then use that moment to create a loop of now-slack wire, spin around, and shove the slack wire loop into the monster's mouth. If that frees me, grab the wire in my club-hand, and attack the monster's eyes as if the wire was an enormous whip. Cutting the wire on something else, like the chainsaw-arms, is also okay.
Mina recovers from the failed strike, and moves to assist again - come on, come on, Alida's in trouble!
Rush to assist Alida. Try to free her from the wires, or failing that, interrupt the monster's attack (preferably without myself getting mulched).
Tooru wasted no time, leaping away from the "girl" with a squeak of fright. The sudden motion didn't play well with the feeling rising in her gut, but she was more concerned with putting distance between her and her likely assailant than trying to keep down her lunch. She also had to worry about the witch below - and the other girls. She didn't want to even try making a blast like that again, and she wouldn't want to regardless; they were too close, always too close for her to stop worrying about hurting them. Maybe, though, she could try something more precise.
As I jump away from the "girl," try to get talismans into the cracks (and by extension the innards of the monster), using as reasonable of a power level as I can manage.
Tooru reaches for Asha's ribbon and tries to catch it (and her!)
In a panic, Asha manifests a ribbon and frantically attempts to whip it toward a wall or something, hoping for it to catch on something...(http://Asha fucking does a barrel roll and flies away like a jet plane, her face twisted into a mask of concentration as she loudly makes airplane noises. "Shhhhrrrrooooo! Zzzzwooosh!")
Also, she probably sees her whole life flash before her eyes if that fails.
"A-Ah! We have to help!" Mina says, jumping to her feet. "D-Do you think you'll be fine? I need to try to help her..."
Assuming an affirmative response, Mina jumps into the wires above again, trying to get into a position to catch the non-fake-Alida falling girl or at least bring her to safety.
Untangle my legs. If time permits, catch the ashen-haired girl.
RGU, I haven't forgotten about you, you'll get an intro post around the time this labyrinth is finished.)):D
<I-I'm s-sorry. I just got scared, I'm sorry. . . I'm up above, in the wires. Asha was up here because of me. . .> The guilt came clear across the telepathic connection; Asha might have been okay, but it was no thanks to Tooru; it seemed the girl had spent all of the time in here and then some chasing after her and trying to clean up after her mistakes, suffering for all of them. Not that Tooru had come out unscathed herself, but the only reason she was okay now was because of Asha's sacrifice.
Tooru took a breath. She still had a job to do, still had to make all of this worth the effort. Another message came over the connection. <I'll try to help from up here.>
Try to shoot the spider with some rifle-powered talismans, using the same strategy of hitting it in the cracks. Assuming I can get a good angle.
<Gotcha. Now lets finish these monsters.>
Go finish off the giant spider. Get on its back, and find its heart through the massive crater on its back.
What Alida said made sense, and would explain . Well, this Alida did save her life, and she didn't feel the same unease around this one. So ultimately, Asha decided to believe this Alida once her two feet touched the ground. But she still couldn't help but remain a bit wary.
"Sorry for doubting you... and thank you for saving. I... can fight too, let me help put an end to this." her voice was still a bit shaky, and her heart was beating vigorously.
Follow Alida toward the Spider! Asha wished to assist in close combat, and would give priority to healing allies -even if it meant darkening her gem...-
Mina starts descending the wires, before realizing something.
<Hey, person that made explosions? Where are you? We saved the healer-girl but we might need more help finishing off the spider thingy...> she sent via psychic powers, worried for her.If she does not respond Mina will be heading down to assist with the spider before she goes looking. If she does respond this action may be edited. Mina heads down to the ground after hearing Tooru's response, aiming to assist Alida in her assault.
Alida slumps down, breathing heavily, and taking a look at her bleeding arms. Now that the combat is over, she notices all the blood.
"Uh.. Can anyone help me with this?"
Alida slumps down, breathing heavily, and taking a look at her bleeding arms. Now that the combat is over, she notices all the blood.
"Uh.. Can anyone help me with this?"
Medical attention? Find bandages and try to stop the bleeding.
Alida slumps down, breathing heavily, and taking a look at her bleeding arms. Now that the combat is over, she notices all the blood.
"Uh.. Can anyone help me with this?"
Asha's heart was still throbbing vigorously from the fight. But the moment she heard Alida and noticed her bleeding wounds, all echoes in her chest seemed to have vanished.
"Ah... Wait, let me help."
She approached Alida, despite still feeling an unconscious wariness toward her. Yet she crushed this feeling deep inside her, and moved on to treat the girl. That was more important.
Soothe!
She focused on that past sensation of giving up part of herself to mend what was wrong. Expanding more of her powers, she healed Alida. For a moment, she noticed it was a little hard to breath... Probably my imagination, thought Asha.
When her focus on the wounds was no longer needed, she looked toward Pumsy with an inquisitive look. She also couldn't decide if she was supposed to get mad or relieved at his remark on their survival. Anywa, if no one had asked the question yet, she said:
"Sorry Pumsy but... can you explain? What is that 'Grief Seed'?"
Mina rushes over to Alida, but then Asha takes the healing into her own hands before she reaches there. "I-I said it before, but I'm sorry for leaving you e-earlier..." she stammers. "T-The illusion thing made me think you were behind me... oh, and does anyone have some water or something?" the last bit comes as she realizes just how much blood is on her, that's not hers.
She'd need to be rushing home as soon as she could - how long had they been in there? She wanted to be sure to get home before her father did, and if she was too late then it'd probably be better not to arrive covered in blood...
Shoe status: Like new!:D
Alida looks at her now-intact arms.
"Really weak? That kinda hurt. Or felt strangely numb.."
"..Who goes first? And do we have to do it now?"
"Weak? But we almost died, and it kept making those weird copies of us. . ." Tooru flinched a bit at 'explosion-person.' Yeah, blew herself up, and blew Asha up, and almost blew the other two up. She was doing her best not to break down right there. And Pumsy was being so mean, still, and she didn't know why that reek of despair had been coming from him but it also made her want to cry and. . .
Not now, at least. "I'm Tooru. I think Asha should take it, she had to bring me back after all. . ."
"Eh? I... guess I could do the same thing I did earlier? It shouldn't be too taxing... I think."
Soothe the clothes?
Afterward, Asha attempted to consume her gem with the grief seed.
As it was her first time doing this Magical Girl stuff, she had no clear idea of what to do. Maybe simply making her gem touch the seed would do something?
(...)
After the deed was done and the situation seemed a bit more settled, Asha turned toward Pumsy:
"Once we have left this place you won't disappear again Pumsy, right? I... still have some things I want to ask you."
Watch self be healed
((Woops, I overlooked that and thought the tiara persisted after use))
((Edit: Nak, the tiara is gone. It only had one use.))

Then again, my memory is not the best.))
The ward spot prolly won't stay filled for too long, but 'cha never know.))
Bump?Bump!
Mina, at least, will be going home.
I'll be going home.
Onward to home!
Tooru heads home and grabs a bite to eat.
"You're right, Sis, I should be here for you and the munchkins." "I'll.. I'll see if I can help you out better. And.. get some money." Alida grabs something small and eats it while watching Eva, and gives her a hug.
<Asha, can you hear me from this far away?>
((Greh. No, the problem isn't that it takes time, the problem is that I just haven't been able to make myself write. "I-I'm sorry... I thought about going to bed but..." she gulped. She wasn't going to lie, per say. This was a feeling she'd had when she looked at her bed earlier, considering going to bed. She continued quietly. "I... I thought if I went to bed I wouldn't get out again... like before..." Even if this was... sort of true, it didn't make her feel less guilty. "S-So I went out on a walk... I stayed in safe places! N-Nowhere really dangerous!" The places weren't dangerous! The labryinth didn't count, it wasn't a part of the city.
Tooru deflated slightly. Apparently not. Maybe she could try and track her down tomorrow, she was pretty caught up on homework. There was one assignment still unfinished, but she wasn't going to be very productive tonight. She elected to mostly relax, fill her empty stomach, and try to just be grateful that she and the other girls that went into the labyrinth were still alive.

Asha approached the cat carefully. She wanted to help it, but she was also worried of scaring the animal away...
"Here, don't be scared. Let me help you, okay? Everything is going to be fine."
Asha tried to nurse the cat.
Go to bed.
That was a big day.
((Gah. I dislike writing this sort of stuff, I'm mildly tempted to just say "fuck it, a few weeks later you're all at the mouth of another labyrinth." A story about real things and people getting royally messed up by the addition of magic is more interesting than a story about young mages blasting demons.
"Yes.. yes I am. What's your name? And what brings you here? That's Pumsy, isn't that?"
<Can you hear this?>
"Well, it looked pretty dangerous. She was a spider made of wires the size of a bus, and had big, scary jaws and legs. And yeah, everyone made it through fine. I.. um, I wished for knowledge, and that's all I'll say about it. And I don't really do magic.. it more seems like I am magic. Um.. I'm not sure how to explain this, but don't move."
People just don't seem to notice it when I do something impossible. Lets see if she notices.
Stand on one leg. Jump off that one leg into a standing double backflip, landing on the other leg.
(That last part about being brave was thought. Unless magical girls can also read the minds of normal people...)
Wait for Alida to do her cool magic. Be surprised and amazed.
Tooru thought. She really was concerned about Asha. She pulled out her phone and tapped in a message to Sandra.Quote from: Tooru to Sandrahey, do you mind if we go looking for another friend of mine? i bet she'd want to come along to whatever we do today
Message sent, the scarlet-haired girl perused her clothing options for the morning. She eventually settled on a shirt with a popular cartoon character on it paired with a skirt that was just slightly too frilly to go with it, before grabbing a small breakfast. Tooru let her parents know where she was going as per usual, then headed off to meet Sandra and the other girl at the usual place while she awaited the reply.
YEAH! 👍👍 I DIDN'T KNOW YOU HAD OTHER FRIENDS. 😲
sry caps
But yeah I thought it was just me & Alice & Violent (sry btw) 🤕 😿😿😿
I won't tell her you don't have friends 😊
Spoiler: Nak uses lots of newlines (click to show/hide)
Mina paced around her room as her parents talked below. She was trying to tire herself out more - she didn't want to sleep here. She didn't want to be in this room, but she couldn't exactly blame her parents there. She didn't want to worry her parents more tonight, but she also didn't want to go into that bed she'd spent far too much of her life in. She paced and paced, probably until her parents were coming upstairs. She could... maybe she could avoid being here and not worry them more at the same time? It was childish - she hadn't done it since she was a small child - but...
As her parents came up the stairs, she exited her room again. "...I... I can't sleep there. Not yet." she stammered. "...I know it's stupid but... could I sleep in your room tonight? M-Maybe that'd be easier..." she asked meekly. And maybe it would make them less angry, and let her forget her brushes with death in the last 24 hours. She hoped. Please make them less angry. "I-I'd prefer being outside, but this seems a little more reasonable, right?"
Free time objective: Mina just wants to be a normal girl, at this point. She wants to live with this chance she's been given. Maybe she can make friends with the other magical girls? And maybe keep up on the whole education thing, since that probably got sort of sidelined by her sickness?
"You'll have to ask them. I only just met them, as Pumsy mostly lead me towards the one who could sense others, and then we went to find the witch."
..
"I do think you could get a lot for your wish, so don't sell it cheaply."
"Alright! You go get Pumsy, I distract kids until you come back with everyone else! Don't worry about them, I have dealt with spoiled kids that have done worse things than just putting worms into clothing."
Go distract and take care of the kids, so Pumsy and Alida can go find the other magical girls so we can all be together and have fun.
"Nuh-Uh, they're my responsability. Pumsy can find the other girls on his own. We'll stick with them together."
Play with the munchkins, and wait to see if Pumsy is going to find the others.
Mina blinked. Then again. What... She wiggled her feather-fingers in front of her face. What? The heck? She just accidentally used magic, she was fairly sure, because people's hands don't just randomly turn into feathers naturally. Wait, she shouted, her parents might have heard that - and she did not want to have to try to explain this. She stared at her wing-hand-thing, trying to imagine her normal hand and fingers, to will it back to what it was supposed to be. Focus, focus... normal human-y hand...
That said, she was now immensely curious how far she could go with this. Was it just her hand? Or could she do... more? Not right now of course, but this was something to try out later!
Try to reverse the change!
Tooru blinked. A rather abrupt question. "Uh, not really, but I could check?" Tooru retrieved her smartphone and brought up the GPS application on it; after some fiddling with settings to get it to actually work properly, Tooru searched for "vet clinic" on her phone.
Despite not having obtained results yet, Asha was already thanking Tooru over.
"Thank you so much!"
---
Later on, whether the matter with the cat could be resolved or not, Asha asked the Tooru if she had seen Pumsy since the day they fought the Witch Maria. She also asked if everything had been alright for her, and if she made any form of progress as a magical girl. Specifically, she wanted to talk about their powers, to explore them a bit via dialogue.
She herself was still a novice, and the outlook of a fellow magical girl could help her grasp her own limits a little better.
Follow Alida. I don't have anything else to do, I think? If she refuses, just go back home with Pumsy.I guess she will either go back home unless Pumsy wants her to go somewhere else. Maybe chat in the way, like asking what are the various powers girls and witches have.
(oops. I knew I should have had Asha kill the cat :p)
Right after the visit at the veterinarian clinic, Asha sighed in relief. She had thought things over, and the verdict of the veterinarian was definitely the best outcome she could wish for. And so with a slightly heavy heart, she decided to part with the cat. Maybe what happened to the small animal would just happen again soon. And this time, no one would be there for the cat. But Asha couldn't keep the cat, and part of her told her it was for the best. Listening to this feeling, she left the cat in an empty street, wishing it a better life.
And now, there were these girls whose names she didn't even remember, trying to make Tooru do what felt to Asha as a public execution. She couldn't help but wonder, how did it come to this? She didn't like these unbecoming displays that people had to show to tell their lives were "definitely better" than the others.
Truth be told, maybe she was jealous. She thought to herself:
(If someone can happily sing in public without caring about the world, then it certainly means that person is living a better life than my own.)
Pondering all of that in her own little world, she just watched at the scene from the sideline.
(Whoops. Time to google whatever the hell thirteen year old Japanese girls are listening to.
Fake edit: turns out those stats are actually impossible to find, so I'm improvising.)
Tooru, for her part, isn't what one would consider shy. It didn't take a ton of convincing to get her to pick a song (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktvTqknDobU) and start belting out lyrics; the only real hangup she had was Sasha's. . . interesting attitude.
Alida is going to look after her family, go to school, and try to earn some money. Maybe loading or unloading trucks would be good, since she's stronger than she was before.
Mina took a deep breath. Alright. Calm down. Caaaaalm. Down. Alright, this is... concerning. But... at least she has what will probably be a functional hand and not a weird, sort of pathetic feather-mass. She tries once more to return it to what her right hand once was - focus, what was your right hand actually like? Maybe find some old pictures or something for a reference? It was just... turning one hand into a slightly different hand. Didn't look that different, physically or magically, so it shouldn't be hard, right? It wasn't like it was something hard to replicate.
...She was never a self-y kind of girl, but maybe taking some would be smart. Just in case she can change more than a hand.
Follow Alida. I don't have anything else to do, I think? If she refuses, just go back home with Pumsy.I guess she will either go back home unless Pumsy wants her to go somewhere else. Maybe chat in the way, like asking what are the various powers girls and witches have.
Asha, due to using the Grief seed, gets an additional level to put in any Mercy or Equanimity power (so four total), AND may choose to gain one of the following Love powers at level 1:
Memento
Empathy
Shield
Summon Shade
Think carefully. If you make a foolish choice then you're stuck with it.
Tooru will take Totem Manip 2, and Manabolt 4. Dakka dakka dakka.((I mean
Also, have her Invigorating Passion be vidya with her family.
Will do some RP things later. Not that she's likely to survive long at this rate, because I fucked up my build and made it so she hemorrhaged mana everywhere during the first labyrinth.
Your totem is your purest manifestation of your innermost self, which in this case happens to be a machinegun identical to the one on your mantelpiece, probably because you've looked at it a lot during your lifetime. The actual object being destroyed will not change this.
Find my school friends and just walk with them. Maybe some window shopping. It'd be nice to talk with people who aren't mixed up in this crazy magic, after that week and that man I injured.
Asha attempted to speak. Her voice was weak and raspy, just like that of someone who emerged from a tomb. "Leave me." The burning pain in her head and the pummeling ringing in her ears made her barely to hear her own words. Dream, delirium, reality, what difference? The pain was here, and wasn't going away. "It hurts it hurts it hurts. Shit shit shit-" She thought on a loop. Those eyes made her forget the pain for a fleeting instant, and once it came back it felt worse than ever. She didn't care why, all that mattered was that she was hurting.
"LEAVE ME GODDAMNIT!" she shouted. She managed to scare herself with that distorted, monstrous voice of her. But it was all swept away by the spliting pain anyway.
Powerless and suffering, Asha closed her eyes. "Leave me alone..." She kept muttering to herself, eventually starting to sob. Even the pain of the fever couldn't make her forget the pain of loneliness.
Asha suffered in silence, deep inside desperately asking for help.
Honestly, I'm not really sure about what to do now. I was hoping you would lead me in the right way last turn.
((Incidentally, if anyone wanted to start RP with Mina, she did give her phone number to all the girls before she left the labryinth. Since she left before any of them could give her their's, they'd have to initiate))
Levels:
Mobility to 2 - In the last labryinth, Mina's lack of speed compared to the others was a major hindrance! She won't let that happen again!
Close Combat to 2 - Mina needs to be able to hold her own in a fight, and help protect others!
Sixth Sense to 3 - A greater understanding of the world, in her mind, would have two main benefits - using her powers more effectively, and being able to easily detect if something's trying to trick the girls like they did last time.
Life stuff
The boredom had been getting rather suffocating, although it could have been so much worse. She could be stuck in the house because she physically couldn't leave instead of being stuck there because she didn't feel like leaving. The fact it was an option meant quite a bit. She was staring out the window and dreaming of adventure when a certain pink feline strolled across the windowsill.
She bolts to her feet. "Hey! It's been a while, good to see you Pumsy!" she says cheerfully (but quietly! Can't let the parents hear can we?)
-snip-
Will do some RP things later. Not that she's likely to survive long at this rate, because I fucked up my build and made it so she hemorrhaged mana everywhere during the first labyrinth.
<Asha, what happened? Are you okay? There's a witch, you can't die yet, the others need you!>Witch. There's a witch.
Asha slowly returned to her senses. Or rather, to her sense of self. She just started to realize her condition, and this oblivion began to terrify her. She tried to articulate something. "I don't know."
Nothing came out, probably. Terror was starting to grip her. "Calm yourself Asha, calm yourself..." she thought. She attempted clearing her mind and focusing on anything remotely close to a sensation, magical or physical, to use as a tether to pull herself back.
Wait, getting responses from Pumsey is quick?
I attempt to ask Pumsey what the hell is up with this boat thing.
((I wasn't trying to bellyache, really; the only thing I was honestly annoyed by was the unexpected tax on mana bolts [as I hadn't thought I'd need to pay full totem summoning costs to immediately shoot mana bolts. . . or physically throw them at things, for that matter.] As far as actual RP goes... I have no real excuse, I just couldn't particularly think of anything to do.))
Tooru was. . . more than a bit concerned, at the moment, and her uncharacteristic lack of sunny smiles was likely not going unnoticed by her family. She'd realized that her soul gem was darker than she remembered it being; in fact, she could barely see it at all. As far as she knew, she didn't go out and fight witches in her sleep or something like that, and she didn't remember using magic for anything in particular, yet there it was. The inner glow barely visible any more. Hopefully her and Asha could find another witch, hopefully with a bit less exploding this time. And the other girls there, too. Still, the gem's darkness by itself wasn't the only concern: had she used magic unknowingly somehow? Or did she just lose that much magic over time?
Try to relax a bit; maybe one of the other girls knows what's up with Asha?
"You think that was mean?! Grandpa is slowly dying and there's nothing I can do about! My family sucks, my life sucks, everything sucks! Only thing I have left after Papa left is him, and every second he is closer... C-closer to..."
Sasha kneels in the ground and starts crying. She tries to cover her face with her scarf to avoid having Pumsy see her in such a weak state, but the checkered scarf and the meaning behind it only makes her cry even more than before.
"God, I'm failure... Should have disappeared, just like Papa. No one would care if I did..."
"Uh, yeah! I think I can, at least... I just need to figure out how to get out without getting in trouble again." Mina said. "And maybe we should get it fast so they don't get worried..." Some reason to go out... she couldn't well have them going along. What to do... or was it better to ask forgiveness than permission? But then, she'd done that once before, and wasn't sure it would work again. Would they believe her going out with some girls she'd talked to when she went out before? Which was the truth, but would they consider that reason to go out for a couple of hours when it's so late?
Try to think of something that'll convince the parents to let me go out. Maybe if one of the others would come (with Pumsy's urging perhaps) she could convince them in order to let her start trying to be social, which she hasn't really had the chance for?
"You can't even ensure their safety! If they're going fight, why aren't you with girls? If you have so much power to make any girl's wish true..."
"You said one of magical girls can cure him? ...What if she dies fighting witch?
((I was going to have her call whoever was most convenient for the plot, really. Mina, if nobody else.))
Sasha suddenly stands up, with a look of determination on her eyes, trying to look brave.
"Maybe you can't, but I can go there and help! I want to see it with my own eyes, know what are we fighting against and what is danger and risk of becoming magical girl!"
"I want to help and be useful. But I'm not ready yet, I need to think about my wish and I don't know what I want yet..."
"But I assure you, if you let me go, I will make wish before midnight! I promise it!"
You know, walking around with a loaded AK might be a little noticeable, even late at night.Do you really think Sasha would think about that in this situation?
I dunno, I don't know Sasha very well just yet. I do know Sophia surprisingly well though, and she wouldn't care if people notice her carrying a gun.Exactly.
Make some excuses, saying that I'll just look out at the water for a bit, and head down in the direction I'm feeling the despair flowing.
"Pumsy, midnight won't come sooner if we hurry! If I want to fight witch, I'll need proper weapon. It's just going to take moment, but it could be difference between surviving or not! C'mon, follow me!"
I need to go to my hidden sanctuary and retrieve my weapon! Ask Pumsy to follow me then go back there and grab Grandpa's gift. After I recover my weapon, sneak out of the house from the window inside the sanctuary.
Asha thought, "What... should I do? I am... hurt?" Pumsy's words worried her, but she still felt too disconnected to properly feel even her own emotions. Ultimately, she decided to trust Pumsy.
Not knowing if he could hear her or not, she thought: "Guide me Pumsy..."
"Yeah, I think I do... haven't seen her though." Mina said. "...I haven't really gone out much. I can ask Pumsy, he's right here!" she turned to Pumsy as she said. "Have you seen Asha? Tooru hasn't seen her..."
"Oh... Hold on..."
Sasha quickly checks her pockets to see if she has a phone with her or if she forgot to bring one in the hurry.
"Found it!"
She pulls a somewhat outdated phone, and calls the other magical girls when Alida gives her their numbers.
"magical girls can do anything!"[Citation Needed]
You want actions?
Try to remember where did I get that horrible sensation of unease a while ago. Try scouting around for the witch, without staying too far away from Pumsy and Alida. It probably is close to where I got that sense of dread, right? The witch probably spooked everyone with horrible feelings like that, which would explain why there is no one else around here.
After the others arrive, point out where I think the labrynth is, and enter it together.
Edge closer. When [Alida]'s about 20 feet away, ask the Russian girl with the gun to fire a round in the air. And STAY BACK, but fire a round in the air.
Follow [the boat]. Do my senses tell me there's a witch on board? Swim up towards the guy with the pole, and remove the pole via CC.
"Yeah, I'll be right over!"
Meet up with the others!
"I'll be a bit, gimme a few minutes!" Mina ended the call, and turned to Pumsy. "I don't suppose you have some sort of magic to make my parents not notice I'm gone...? At least, until I get back." she said, not really believing he would but if he did, then that would be great...
"Y...yes. I think I can now."
Asha attempted to get up, and followed Pumsy's instructions if he had any. If not, she would try to focus and scry the surroundings for the light of other Magical Girls and eventual traces of miasma.
Sasga~Sasuga~
Asha was going to mentally debate on the value of communication in a team, when she realized that she wasn't really a great example what with her not even having a phone. Well, it's not my fault I don't have the luxury to afford one... In hindsight, she also remembered she didn't even give her address to any of the girls, not even Tooru. Shame and self-contempt would have welled up if it were not for the urgency of the situation.Whoops, that's a typo. I'm posting from my phone and tend to make these on accident.
Gunshot plus Tooru arguing with a Russian girl definitely didn't bode anything good.
Putting her pride in the back of her mind, Asha started assessing the situation. Tooru and the other girl were involved in something bad. Was it a witch? But Pumsy just said Mina managed to find the witch's labyrinth entrance. Where the girls already in the labyrinth, or was it a totally different matter?
Asha spoke loudly into the phone.
"Tooru! This is Asha, I'm currently with Mina. Please calm down, we can't understand you. Are you okay? What is happening on your position?"
Then she turned toward Mina.
"Mina... Where is the labyrinth located?"Sasga~Sasuga~
The entrance to the labyrinth is obvious; it's a circular hole in the sloped concrete wall, as wide as a man is tall, with several multicolored neon lights flashing in a pattern around the edge of the hole.
"Well, we found the lair, and that's probably where the witch is. So probably? Oh, and yeah, it's a hole over here. Big enough for a person to fit through and has some water coming out of it. Oh, and despair, and bright flashing neon lights, which is why I don't think it's just a sewer exit.""Oh, you said it has despair coming out of hole? Like, literal despair? That kinda explains why did I feel so weird before..."
This is, ahem, super unrelated to the current state of affairs but I gotta ask: Does Mimicry allow you to dismantle your own body?
Sure, this would kill your body pretty dead, but You Are Not Your body, and now you can access what you just lost for a very nice Minor cost.
If you have Semblance 2 and Mimicry 2 you should be able to eat your normal body, use Semblance to regenerate into some OP form like a Finale-cost dragon, then dismantle that and you can freely swap between normal and a form that would normally be a Finale for just a Minor cost. Provided that you meet soul conditions to use Mimicry, of course.
Sorry for the doublepost and bumping, but is the next turn is going to be soon?
(Speaking of speculation, I'm wondering if L3 Flagellation can have painful but beneficial effects on someone's body, as it doesn't require wounds.)
(You've got Mob 3, Nakéen. I know self-depreciation is a character trait, but there's self depreciation and then there's becoming an anchor for no reason.)
"So this witch is pretty powerful, Pumsy? We'd best be on our game, then."
<I can jump down there fine, can the rest of you help me?>
Board the vessel. Lead one of the victims off the boat. They seem pretty passive, there shouldn't be much resistance.
"G-Got it! I'll keep an eye out, too." Mina says, as she follows after Alida.
Hop onto the boat as well, and start getting people out.
"The boat!" shouted Asha. There is no way she could let it and its passengers head into the witch's labyrinth. She first thought about jumping on it, but then she would probably get separated from the others if they couldn't stop the boat. (How to stop the boat? No... maybe we don't need to stop it. Just save the people...)
Through telepathy, Asha quickly shared her idea. [Is anyone agile enough to jump on the boat and, how should I put it, throw the people to me? I'm confident in my strength, but not in my mobility. I can also alter my ribbon's properties a little bit to ease landing, I think.]
Asha attempts altering her Ribbon's shape to form a sheet, and stands at the ready.
[I can get there, but um, I'm not really any stronger than I was.] She was definitely going to follow that boat in, though. Tooru took a few moments to judge the leap, and a step or three back to get a running start.
Tooru leaps onto the boat! She doesn't throw anyone, though.
Sasha just awkwardly stands where she is, looking at everyone do super jumps to the boat. She's also a little envious of everyone having awesome powers.
(Everyone goes that-a-way, save for one person.)
"Hey, shouldn't you catch up with your friends?"
"I can't follow my friends, we might get seperated from each other!"
"That's stupid. They're over there, you're over here, you seperated yourself by not following them."
(I'm sorry, Nakéen, but that's being stupid. You know exactly where everyone else went, and you're refusing to go to them because you might be alone? That's not how reality works. You're alone because you refused to follow everyone else.)
"So... Now what? Did boat just suddenly disappear?"
Leave the wounded guy to Asha. Investigate the darkness that ate the boat, then also enter the labyrinth.
Accept Memento and wear it immediately.
Asha gasped. The boat had disappeared with the three magical girls, leaving her alone with the newcomer... And would the others be okay by themselves in the labyrinth? They were altogether, but still, she felt uneasy and a bit guilty for first suggesting to board the boat.
She noticed Sasha heading toward the entrance of the labyrinth. Panic was starting to brew inside her mind, and she took a deep breath to keep it together. Her heart was beating rapidly from the excitation. And with a slightly wavering voice, she said to Sasha:
"Don't stray too far! We must stay together."
Then she proceeded to tend to the rescued people, checking them for any physical, mental or soul injuries.
"But we don't know where the others even are, we can't risk becoming further separated... Not only that, but the telepathy seems to have been cut."
Asha could understand Sasha though. The desire to prove oneself, to be useful and answer to a calling...
"It's... not like I don't understand you know. I want to go help too, but I don't want to get in the way either. Ah!"
Her new powers came to mind.
"Sasha! Come here before going further! Take this and keep it close to you. It will let me know about your situation... I think."
Using Memento, Asha created a clear blue ribbon for Sasha to wear.
"Once I am done checking the victims, I will come with you."
"The ride in was kinda fun, but this place is weeeeird." Tooru looked about at the environment she found herself in. It was probably supposed to be relaxing, luring in people or something, but there was a quality to it that made her feel deeply uncomfortable. Not to mention she was a little nervous about running out of magic. Her necklace was barely glowing any more. . . Still, she signed up for this, right? She was hunting the evildoers and saving people, that was good. Tooru hesitantly prods at the water with anything convenient; should nothing of note happen, she tests it with a finger before withdrawing quickly. Should nothing happen with that, she proceeds forward.
Get off the boat and move onto the land. Keep a clear sight of where we came in, and stay out in the open so that I can be easily seen by newcomers.
"Hold on, we shouldn't go too far from the entrance until we're all back together. This place seems safe enough, but we got seperated last time and I had to fight on my own and almost got killed. Lets stick together this time.. I'm sure Asha and the russian girl will come in soon, and I don't want them to have to look for us.. someone will get lost and we'll get killed alone."
Mina staggered to her feet, mostly on her own ability since the clay man hardly provided a solid handhold. "This place doesn't seem to bad... at least not compared to the last one." she notes. She dusts herself off. "Everyone's ok right? Hold on, I'll look around a bit..." she asks.
As the others disembark, Mina does too. She uses her magical senses, trying to see if anything nearby is dangerous.
<What are you standing around for? Help me find her.>
Shuck off my pack and shoes, throwing them on solid ground. Then dive after Sasha to try and retrieve the girl. Hopefully either I'll spot her myself, or Mina will help direct me via telepathy.
<She has been down there for a bit. I don't think the water hurt her but she should probably come up...>
Try to sense Sasha's location, and then direct Alida to her. Failing that, go in to help out.
Dazed and confused, Sasha tries to swim upwards.
...Huh? Asha, why are you here too? How are you even talking underwater? Isn't that strange? Hold on, I think I'm drowning... There was a watefall? My head hurts, everything is very dark...
Then she realizes she just lost one of her most prized possessions.
..No no no no no NO NO NO NONONONONONONO!!!
Grandpa's rifle! I have to find it!
He is obviously dead, put me in coach.
Alida isn't really good at handling these situations, so she just takes a few dives to try and find the rifle. They're all magical.. if it's gone, there should be a solution between them, somehow.
If Asha can be reached, ask her to try to come down. If not, ask Sasha if she can reach her.
Regardless, try to bring the others to meet up with Tooru. Tell them that it feels like something's off deep in the water, maybe try to figure out what it is. If that doesn't work, look around some more, see if there's any evidence of the witch's location.
Lie down, despair and cry about lost heirloom in silence. I ruined everything, lile always... Grandpa is going to be so disappointed...
Tooru decides to jump off the boat to the shore, and assuming nothing untoward happens she heads back to investigate the screaming.
Enter the labyrinth, reunite with Sasha and the others!
"Guys, try not to listen to the music! It's something the witch is doing, trying to hypnotize us and stuff." She bounced over toward the strange Russian girl, shaking her slightly. "Come onnn, this is exciting and dangerous!" She glanced around at the others, trying to (nonmagically) rouse some excitement in the group to counteract the effects of the place. "We're in this weird place with reality doing weird stuff and hunting monsters! There's no time to sit around being sleepy!"
Upon hearing Tooru, Mina tried to follow her advice and try to shake off the dazed feeling she was having and focus.
((Quick post, sorry for late response, just starting college.)
"Thanks Mina, I wouldn't have found it without your help. Sorry for yelling at you."
Hmm.. that doesn't look good. It must be this odd music.
"Is there a way out of here? This place is starting to seem odd.. and dangerous."
Alida takes off her wet-weather blue coat and drapes it over Sasha's head, hopefully to slightly muffle the music. At the same time, Alida tries to shake off her own dizzyness.
Focus on that feeling of happiness and excitement! It's time to celebrate, not fall asleep!
"Ah, what's happening? I'm so tired..."
Or just closing your ears and going "LALALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU"(I mean, Sasha is basically doing this, but with gunshots.)
Or, hell, you're magical girls, just cut your ears off and reattach them later. It's not Einsteinian Roulette. :P
"...N-no! Stop it! I don't even like music! It's very dull!"
Shoot the ground repeatedly while loudly humming the songs of my people. I am the one with the gun and no dumb magic is going to control me!
"No, don't waste your bullets! Lets just keep moving."
Link everyone, hand in hand, and move towards another area, preferably one with less music. If we stick together this way, we should be able to keep from wandering off and get somewhere more useful.
Asha helps assist the others in resisting the music, as we leave the area.
<Good idea to try, at least. But what if it's the Witch making the music?>
Regardless, go with the others and keep the magical senses open and looking for the music's source.
"Oh, sorry Sasha. We're going to hide and see what is following us. If it feels okay, we'll call out to it and start talking. If it feels made of evil and sadness, we'll likely just attack.""Oh, I see. So if thing is bad, I shoot it? Got it!"
Hide with the others and try to feel out what is following us.
<I'm not sure we can hide from it... it's following us, isn't it? Wouldn't it see?>
In any case, hide with the others.
Asha brings Sasha up to speed and brings her with the group to hide, if she doesn't resist.
Sasha is, at first, slightly confused because of lacking telepathy and being unable to hear the others. She then understands what's happening and follows Asha while thinking about how cool it would be to communicate with mind powers like that.
"Oh, sorry Sasha. We're going to hide and see what is following us. If it feels okay, we'll call out to it and start talking. If it feels made of evil and sadness, we'll likely just attack."
<Maybe not, but we can try. And if it feels really bad and evil, we can probably attack first. If it's not bad, we can probably talk.>
Hide with the others and try to feel out what is following us.
<That sounds good!>
Tooru hides! Though she's still chasing who/whatever it is if they run away.
Sasha carefully aims at thr creature and stays still, awaiting orders from the rest of the group and attacking only if they do.
<Okay!>
Get ready to fire manabolts at the creature.
<Fire when you're ready, Tooru.>
Charge the familiar with my club if it isn't dropped by the manabolt and the bullet.
When the others get to attacking, release the illusion and summon a halberd. If the others don't manage to down it, go out and help
"Asha, you don't need to bandage me so agressively. I fight better when I'm hurt. In fact, don't you have that ability to make a wound so that someone will get magic back?"
"My gem, well it's pretty dull, and we might have a lot of fighting before we get out of this place. Could you please do that to me?"
"Wait, are we sure monster is dead? What if monster reforms from clay and attacks us?"
First, check how much ammunition I have left inside of the AK-47. Then, stare to the clay for a while and try to determine if it's already dead or still moving. After this, follow the rest onwards.
Double check if the clay thing is dead. Then go with the others.
Tooru cheered when the thing seemed to actually die. "Yay! We did it, and nobody even got hurt that bad. Just make sure to not listen to the music this time. Um, does anyone have earplugs or something? We can all talk to each other fine, except for Sasha." The redhead didn't seem overly concerned about that problem. She was, however, finding herself glancing at where the thing went down. "Alida, you got all that clay off of you, right? If it was still moving when we shot it off of the thing, it's probably not a good idea to leave it on yourself."
Tooru makes sure she's reasonably clay-free, then proceeds forward. . . assuming the rest of the group does, of course.
"Yeah.. that's a good point." Alida takes a moment to examine herself, brushing off any stray clay.
"We should probably keep moving on, though. Lets find a better way towards the witch, as more of these might come from that way." (Alida points back the way they came from.)
"Also, hmm.. that's a bomb, right? Maybe we could set it off behind us, that should shake the pursuit."
Move forward, away from where we came in, and try to keep my eyes open for any further hostiles.
"I could climb up, too."
I'm pretty light, do that.
"Okay. Jump out of my hands, and I'll give you a boost."
Do an acrobatic launch for Mina and Tooru. Asha can help with the lauch, making it a two-man launch.
"Sometimes being a magical girl is lots of fun."
"Well, I can try..."
Jump from Alida's hands and try to survey the area while in the air!
"Well, we know where the music is coming from- it was that way..." she points. "Maybe it's where the witch is? It looks kinda different from everywhere else... we shouldn't do that again, by the way. I felt like I was being watched..."
"Might as well! Just watch for weird clay things and don't listen too hard to the music, right?"
Head towards the different-looking centre of the music. Try to help each other navigate and resist the music.
I'm not sure ... if wishing to have all of my problems solved will actually work.((To misquote Stalin: "Death solves all problems. No magical girl, no problem."))
Continue feeling and being useless, I guess. All I can do right now is observe and follow the rest, fighting if it's needed with my gun.
Maybe start thinking of what could I wish for when this is over. I'm not sure if wishing for more wishes is allowed, or if wishing to have all of my problems solved will actually work. Think about how do I currently feel towards my family and the magical girls.
"I think the ribbon is holding it together. If it attacks, try to cut it, okay?"
"Also.. asha, throwing Mina there took a lot out of me, more than I was expecting. Could you wound me again? I don't want to run out of soul and die when the witch shows up."
Hide, and help the others hide, until the unicorn thing moves around the building. Ask Asha to use flagellation again.
If the Unicorn-ribbon creature attacks, dodge by jumping low and towards it, getting beyond it and spreading the group out, in case of a bomb. If CC is used, try to trip it up in passing.
Continue feeling and being useless, I guess. All I can do right now is observe and follow the rest, fighting if it's needed with my gun.

((Also, Syv, how about posting the answers to those IC questions I asked of you?))
<Should we blow it up? Or maybe grab some flowers and take them with us? It turned around when it touched one, maybe we can trick it if it turns out to be more dangerous than it looks.> Tooru peered after the creature. It was sort of terrifying, if not immediately concerning, and its awkward motion and garish color scheme only made it more offputting. She shivered slightly, then turned back toward the building. She gestured at the window. <The lights are on, do you think the witch is home?>
Move up to the window. Tap on the glass a bit, then see if it can be opened from the outside. If at any point anything more unpleasant than a feeling of dread happens, run back to the others.
((Also, sorry for not responding. A combination of quantum mechanics and a game of Civ V with far too many mods installed has been keeping me.))
..I'm gone until Monday.
<Yeah, you know what, lets stop screwing around and blow it up. Be careful, though, there might be more bombs around.>
Use Totem Manipulation to improve my club by making it slightly longer and heavier, getting ready for combat. If combat starts, rush in and hit it from below, trying to dodge-tank the unicorn.
<Well, there's not really anywhere else to go unless we go back. Let's go!> Tooru clambers into the window, entering the space beyond. The way this place was laid out was messing with her, there was all sorts of portals and places that looked bigger on the inside. If nothing happens, she heads toward the door directly ahead, and cracks it open before peeking through the gap.
"Is the witch in there?"
"You know, maybe there are some prisoners in there too. The witch was bringing people in, right? Maybe they're being put in these odd places."
Try to sense where the witch is, and if there's any people around here. Go where the witch is, unless there's innocent people who seem to be in danger.
In general, go in unless it's clear that neither the witch, nor any civilians, are in there.
If attacked, swing for the fences. Knock any enemies upward into the air, where they might have a harder time striking back.
<Asha, can you help us sense what's around here?>
Help Alida feel for the Witch and stick to the others.
Sasha is, at first, startled by Asha's voice. Asha had been silent for so long she had even forgotten about the ribbon's magic.
...I'm okay, Asha. It's not something you can heal, I think... We'll talk about it later.
Stick to the rest of the team and have my AK-47 ready for any hostiles.
Sasha carefully pokes the "food".
"Is this safe to eat? Maybe we could rest here, now that no monster is close."
"I.. don't think so? Maybe after the witch is dead? It might do something to us, like the music."
"I'll carry a bit, though."
Take a piece of the food and drop it into the waterfall. Take another piece to carry around. Then stick my head through the two doors and try to figure out which one gets us closer to the witch. If the long slope brings us closer, use that one.
"We shouldn't eat that, no..."
Basically help with what Alida's doing.
Tooru started to pull at her magic, getting ready to blast the thing. . . but she stopped, hand outstretched like some sort of character from an anime, without firing. <Should we attack it?> Nothing had attacked them so far, after all, but they were still here to kill the witch. . . Maybe that was how it got you? Pretending to be all nice and friendly until you let your guard down, then boom! A giant anvil from the sky. Or something. <I'm gonna blow it up unless someone says we shouldn't.>
If nobody protests, hit it with a mana bolt.
If combat begins, be ready to dash forward and assist in Alida's attack
Well... It didn't seem to be hostile. Wait to see how the others react. Try not to waste bullets, don't shoot if they seem to have this under control.
<Don't hit it with just one. These things are pretty tough; try for three or four. And have Asha fill you up, we only have so much magic.>
Get ready to defend with the bat-sized club in the not-marshmellow hand. If the creature responds, activate CC and bash it in the center of mass, try to whack it well away from here.
Before reading the thread, I wasn't sure how I would feel. Now I feel renewed, and ready for anything. What do you thing? Should I return and come back in? My life and spirit are now under control, so I shouldn't disappear again. (though part of me feels saying this is getting old, hence leaving the final verdict to you all)
Up to you. My very selfish preference is that you quit and I get in sooner, but that's probably not what's best for you, is it?Sorry about that though! I understand the sentiment though. Allow my selfishness to impose on yours then.
If Asha is staying, that slightly changes the calculus of which powers I took from Isabella, though. Reliving Plight is fun, but I picked Triage because it seemed likely that I'd be the only one with healing powers. Though Triage is still fun, and I think I'll find a use for it even before meeting y'all, so maybe Asha doesn't change things enough to actually change my mind. :P
"I don't really like it. What if it's like one of those scary movies and it chases us? Or grows into a whole new monster?" She stuck her hand out toward the arm. "Uh, Sandra, can you back up a little? I'm gonna try to blow it all the way up."[/b] Tooru's palm glowed once the girl moved out of the way, and quickly let out a mana bolt roughly equivalent to a shotgun blast at the errant limb.
"We should keep going, though. This place is weird, and the way it's trying to be all nice is just making it creepier!"
Assuming nothing untoward happens other than blowing up the arm, try to feel for that sense of despair and where it's strongest. If that's not helpful, just. . .keep going forward, I guess, making sure we don't split up.
"I have no idea. I thought that figthing monsters would be fun, but everything here is confusing and kinda creepy. How are we even supossed to find witch in first place?"
Poke clay arm with AK-47. Does it look dangerous?
If it wasn't clear, stick with the group - try to sense for where the witch might be with Alida
Try to sense which way leads closer to the witch. If I can't do so, pick a direction at random.
Asha cleared her head of this long daze. She gasped, slightly startled by the arm, and by the clarity of her thoughts. She felt strange, as if she just rediscovered how to breath. Speaking felt curiously strange.
"I- I think we should follow it, won't it lead us to its mistress?"
Stay with everyone and move forward.
Leaning over the balcony, Asha scanned the grand. A great and empty space, with such a bright blend of colours. Despite its vastness, this place felt suffocating, smaller than the room she shared back in the dormitory. Her eyes rested on the broken chandelier, which for some reason, felt the most normal element of all the hall to her.
She noticed the tall door, and added a comment of herself.
"They are definitely trying to lead us that way..."
She then looked straight down. Then she worriedly started looking for some stairs or some such.
"Oh no... Isn't there an easier way of getting down than jumping? Ah- speaking of, how if everyone feeling? If it's not a bother, I would like to check on everyone while we have the time."
Asha suggested checking on everyone's health and possibly soul. A quick inspection without going too in depths, as not to expend too much power on a diagnosis.
"That could be it, too. Hmm."
"You know, there was a bomb earlier way up there in the bone room. If there's a trap, it's probably another bomb."
"How about you check out the wires, while I take a good look at that chandelier?"
"I'm a little tired, but still ready to go!" Tooru leaned over the balcony, looking up and trying to get a better look at what laid above them; not just the ceiling, but if there was anything else overhead, more floors above them, that sort of thing.
Can Tooru see a way to actually reach the ceiling?
"I'm sorry I'm so rough, Asha. I know I'm not in good shape, though, we should try to finish this up quickly and properly."
"But do let me go first. If something jumps out at us, I'll knock its block off." With that, Alida holds up her bat. and hits the chandelier, trying to knock off a small metal bit to hold in the other hand. (No CC, please.) Before picking it up, though, she looks at the bit of cake in her left hand.
"You know, I think this is probably safe after both you and Mina looked at it. I'm going to take a bite, and then the rest of you can eat the rest."
Bite the cake. Proceed into the hidden room, if Mina doesn't detect a trap in it, picking up the metal bit after giving the bit of cake around. Take the lead position, unless someone else specifically volunteers.
"Oh, I guess we're not using my idea." Tooru deflated slightly at that, but cheered right up as she followed the rest of the group. As she walked, she considered what had happened in the last few fights she'd been in. She'd definitely had more impact when she threw talismans instead of just shooting magic from her hands, as cool as that was. Tooru took on a comical expression of intense focus for a moment, and formed three more talismans out of magic in her hand.
((Thanks for the turn by the way, keep up the good work!))
This echo of a reminiscence was sweet, with a tinge of a something she didn't want to dwell upon. It would only spoil her mood, Asha knew it. With her mood lifted up a bit, Asha descended the stairs to get to Alida's position.
<Follow me Aleksandra!>
She enjoyed the happy thought for the short duration of the descent, after which she buried it and returned to her usual gloomy behavior. She stopped a few steps behind Alida who stood before the chandelier.
"Did you find anything?"
Regardless of the answer, Asha's mind wandered toward the tall door. Her intuition was telling her that opening this door would get them closer to the Witch. And then finally she could prove her worth, yes. Calm down, let's not be reckless. she thought to herself. She voiced her thoughts, hardly able to keep her eagerness to face the Witch in check.
"I think we should follow the clayman past these doors, the Witch must be close."
Suggest going past the doors once everyone is ready.
((I apologize for not posting. I've essentially been getting slammed with paper after paper and a bunch of different tests as the first term approaches conclusion, to the point I've had difficulty keeping up with that, and have just generally been stressed as a result of that and various private matters in my personal life. As such, I have had difficulty in posting in most of the games in which I participate, for which I apologize. I will try to post (if not right now, due to needing to work on one of the aforementioned papers), but would appreciate if Mina is auto'd if I fail to do so for a while, as I'd rather not have her be dead weight while I get my life in order))
Well, I'm going to kill her. But I'm not going to abandon my friends.
<Asha, if you have a chance, can you heal my soul again?> "I think we're close. I'm going to split up like I did the last time. Something weird is going on, though, so let me know if I'm doing something bad, okay?"
Cast Effigy. Have my body with the soul gem stick with my friends. Have the other one, carrying its baseball bat, and hopefully with additional wounds, charge into the fight.
Tooru glanced nervously at Alida, then back to the others. <Alida? Don't go in there, it's dangerous! That cake messed with your mind!> She hoped the girl could hear(?) her thinking; Tooru could barely make her own thoughts out over the racket. She glanced down at her gem; that was also really worrying. It wasn't even really glowing, any more, in fact it almost did the opposite. She didn't want to think about what it would mean if it got much darker. <Asha, I need you to use that thing on me, to give me more magic.>
Ask Asha for Flagellation, then use a roughly rifle-strength manabolt (saving my talismans for now) to shoot through where the engine should be on the taxi.
Asha barely managed to hear Aleksandra complaining about the music, and she noticed the unaffected Alida walking slowly in a fair distance in front of the group. She wanted to reach to her through telepathy, but the noise was making it really hard to focus. And then Alida's voice echoed clear and audible in Asha's head, which she used to focus her mind.
<Ah- Healing your soul? Yes of course, but wait, Alida! It's not going to be as light as the last time, where are you going? We should real...st...k...gether->
Aaah that noise! I can barely focus!
She then heard Tooru's voice in her mind, severing her focus on Alida.
<Tooru? Yes, I can use my powers on you, but we really need to do that in a safe place. I think it could hurt so bad you won't be able to maintain consciousness.>
Asha realized she didn't check on Tooru's soul. If only she had done it earlier! <Please let me check your soul once we get the occasion! And please try to stop Alida!>
There are too many uncertainties in the situation, Asha feels an immediate Flagellation would be too risky for the group. She first tried to get used to the deafening music, and if it seemed Alida could not be stopped, she tried to get to her. Can't let her go alone!
Permission? Sounds like permission. ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL.
<Alida, I can not hear you when you speak out loud, the music is too loud. Say again?>
Ascertain Alida's current state! Does she seem dangerous? Try not to get too close, in case she's being possessed by something, hehe.
There's a lot of potential threats out here... If those minions suddenly attack and Alida is out of it, the best option would be to grab her and drag her back into the mansion. If Alida is lucid, it still might be necessary to retreat, but at least we'll have both hands free to keep those beasties at bay.
Falling to her knees, Aleksandra screams at the top of her lungs, as loudly as possible.
"Witch, your music choice is horrible! Either play something better, or make it stop! I HATE ROCK!"
Tooru! Asha didn't think twice. The pain in her hand had raised her awareness.
Rush in front of Tooru and smash the Clay People away!
((There may be such a thing as overstepping here, but I cannot resist.))
<Fight or->
The ashen one yells something and runs forward.
<Fight it is, then.>
No time for questioning, no more time for waiting. Time to fight. This weapon is heavy, but we can be strong. We can become the hero, who defends her friends and doesn't struggle under the weight.
You know what I mean, right? This body is too weak for the blade, but you are not your body.
"Alida!"
Shoot the closest clay man! I have to help!
Tooru stumbled and nearly fell over backward again at the noise; unpleasant didn't begin to cover it. And continue stumbling backward she did; by the time she recovered from the screech, the clay people were already rushing at her. If it wasn't for her coordination and general athleticism suddenly ticking upward massively upon her getting magic, she probably would have just gone down; as it were, she scrambled backward.
Tooru retreats backward, trying to get breathing room using her Mobility. Once she has time to aim, shoot a Cheap manabolt at the first target of opportunity.
((No bodymodding other people's characters permanently.))((You're not my real dad!
Just dodge this turn. Trip or block any of them that looks like it'll reach Sasha, she can't defend herself like the others can. Otherwise, try to stay close to Asha. Assist others with Bravery to help them dodge or ward off blows.
The body on the taxi is going to climb through the ceiling onto the roof, to get a clear view of the upcoming witch.

No second thought was given, only saving Tooru was on her mind.
Asha lept toward the clay woman to bodyslame it, hoping she could save Toory in time!
Everything was going wrong. Her arm and her leg both felt like they'd been ripped clean off (or maybe worse; that might have actually hurt less than this), Alida was dead, Asha wouldn't help her get any magic back so she was gonna run out on her own, not that it mattered because she was about to get turned into paste by a stupid woman made of clay, and it was all that stupid Russian girl's fault. Tears leaked out of her eyes as she tried to sob and scream; even that just made the agony even worse. She could at least try to take one of these stupid things with her before she died or worse.
Try to use my free hand and remaining talismans to blow away the clay woman with more mana bolts. Cheap cost each, but as many shots as it takes.

Also, for some reason, reading this turn, some appropriately active music arrived in my head. It was Live and Learn (https://youtu.be/3gPBmDptqlQ).))
ohgodohgodohgodohgodOHGODOHGODOHGOD! Alida... I'm sorry... YOU JUST KILLED HER! I s-said I'm sorry... Okay, you need to calm down. This isn't time to- PANIC! AAAAAAAAAHHHHHH! It's all your fault, Aleksandra! I... I didn't meant to... SHE'S DEAD! There's no time for this. You need to focus on the enemy. AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH! The are all looking at you! THEY KNOW YOU DID IT! B-but it was an accident..! You didn't aim correctly and now one of your allies is dead. WHY DID YOU THINK SHOOTING LIKE THAT WAS A GOOD IDEA?! I mean, Asha c-can still heal her... Right? Everything w-will be fine... NO, IT WONT BE FINE! I can't believe this is happening... I... I...
I just killed Alida.
Aleksandra immediately faints from the shock, and drops to the ground with a thud...
What.. happened? I gotta get back. That felt bad.
<Dammit, I'm coming right back!>
Abort. Lets get away by grabbing one of the middle wings and tearing it off the chariot, and flying, deku-leaf style back down to the others. If it doesn't tear off, use CC and just smash the side off with my club.
I don't like this chariot much, though, so if it comes off nicely, take my launch from the rear wing on the same side. Give it a nice kick on launch and hope I break part of it.
what has been unpleasant/boring/bad
(Hi! So sorry to ask, as it's been quite some time since I've been in the forums, but is it possible to still make a Ward?)
I might limit the size of dungeons a bit. This one is too big. Spending too long in the same area gets a bit tied down and dull.
Also, if gems were all one-use and came more often it'd be probably a little more fun. I'd then give out maybe only two skill ranks per labrynth.
((I'mma just post quick - if anyone has alternate suggestions feel free to say it.))
Protect the injured Tooru by finishing the crippled clay monster. Once it's done, interpose self between the remaining one and Tooru. It will not get through if she can help it. She can't heal her but she can make sure she doesn't get hurt worse.
((I'mma just post quick - if anyone has alternate suggestions feel free to say it.))
Mina goes to quickly recover her halberd. Then, protect the injured Tooru by going for the non-crippled clay monster. Priority: Nothing reaches Tooru. She can't heal her but she can make sure she doesn't get hurt worse.
Defend Tooru.
Try to struggle my way out of harm's way, while trying to get the clay off of me.
Make my way back to my other body as best I can. If I do, see if I can wake up Sasha to make sure she's alive, and reassure her that I didn't die.
<..I'm still here. Is everyone okay? Did you take care of the familiars? I saw the witch... sort of.>
Relax. Think of nice things and try to forget that I just murdered the first friend I've had for years. Think of happy thoughts, like how life was back at Russia. You know, before Papa left.
((Uh, I'm sorry for being a bit unclear, but by "non-crippled" I meant the one that had legs - I figured "legless" = "crippled". My original post had been going for the legless one, but I had edited it after it was pointed out that it was less of a threat well before you posted.
That said, things have apparently worked out fine anyway, so no big deal. I will try to be more clear in the future))
"Asha. . . please, help me, why aren't you helping?" Tooru whimpered, barely able to form words through the pain. Asha was supposed to be her friend, why was she just standing there and watching her writhe and suffer? This place was horrible enough, she could barely hear herself and wasn't sure Asha could, not that it made her feel any better about the lack of help she was receiving. <Please, I, I don't have that much magic left and it hurts, why are you leaving me like this?>
Try to hold still while I get cleaned up, and hope Asha actually does something for me.
((AAaaah, sorry. I wasn't really sure what Mina could do, so I kinda... just forgot to post. I'm really sorry about that. This has been too persistent a problem for me and I'll try to post more in the future.))
Mina walks back to the others, after making sure nobody's in immediate danger, and looks at Tooru's injuries, and winced. "Are you ok" would be out of place, to say the least. Instead, she turned to Asha...
"Asha, c-can you help? Like you did last time? I think she needs it now... please..." Mina stammered. It didn't look good, no not at all, b-but it'd be all right, right? Right?
Use flagellate and then Soothe on Tooru.
Jump at Alida and hug her!
"Alida! You're alive! Oh, don't worry about me. I just saw you... I thought you had... You know..."
"...I'm so sorry! It was an accident! I was trying to be helpful, but I just made things worse for everyone! I know I'm just a load to team and I didn't want to be useless..."
After that, take the gun and activate the safety. Don't keep my finger on the trigger either, just in case.
Pin my soul gem to the working body, like I did last time, and say a quick bye to Sasha, saying I need to check on the others now, and we're going to fight the witch. Take the copy of Asha's ribbon off the arm wound of the dead body. Ask if Sasha's okay, and if she'd like her gun back. Try to carefully put the gun down... I might break it handling it, I get strong when I'm wounded.
Help Tooru out with the clay bits. Use that ribbon to try and gently get under the stuck clay, and lift it away from her while avoiding touching it.
<Or.. maybe.. two of us could just bury ourselves halfway in the ground..>((You know what that'll make you look like? A couple of ash holes!
<Well.. I've got an idea. I've got these extra ribbons of yours, Asha. Could you make it a bit longer.. and stretchy? I think we could shoot ourselves up into the air if we have a rubber ribbon, and that'll let us get in the air if we have to. Just gotta make like a slingshot.>
<But.. I'm not quite sure where the witch is..>
Look around and try to scrounge up pieces for the human slingshot. All I really need is two long straight objects. I suppose in a pinch I can use a couple more clubs, but better to find something and save that magic.
If someone does cry out for assistance, or spots the witch, run to them.
<Did any of you see where the witch was? I can't really see it in the sky now.>
...
<Or.. maybe.. two of us could just bury ourselves halfway in the ground..>
That's crazy, Alida, don't think that.
"I don't think I did... gimme a minute. Where did you see it exactly? That might be a good place to start looking." Mina said, after mouthing an apology to Tooru for the poking.
After Alida replies, Mina would try to extend her senses with the goal of finding the witch. Now that they had some breathing room and were all together again, it was probably time to get back on task, and this was what she was good at...
Try to sense the witch's location - was there maybe some kind of trail left behind?
<Well.. I've got an idea. I've got these extra ribbons of yours, Asha. Could you make it a bit longer.. and stretchy? I think we could shoot ourselves up into the air if we have a rubber ribbon, and that'll let us get in the air if we have to. Just gotta make like a slingshot.>
((Embarassing and annoying. Just after saying I wouldn't disappear again I did, and at a bad time too...))<Well.. I've got an idea. I've got these extra ribbons of yours, Asha. Could you make it a bit longer.. and stretchy? I think we could shoot ourselves up into the air if we have a rubber ribbon, and that'll let us get in the air if we have to. Just gotta make like a slingshot.>
Upon seeing what happened to Alida, Asha's mind had partially blocked external sensory inputs. Like an automaton, she focused on the task on her mind. Defending and then healing Tooru, which she did. And now, the girl had come back to her sense though she remained a bit shaken.
<I think I could manage that... Let me see...>
Asha used Totem Manipulation to alter the properties of a ribbon. Longer, stronger... she visualized a piece of rubber.
Hmm.. you know, Mina's Halberd would be even better than my club. If we need it, I'll see how she feels about making a spare so we can do that.
Catch up with Tooru to investigate the music together. Bring Mina and Asha if they're not doing anything. Sasha can come too, if she's feeling up for it.
Investigate it by going around the building until the wall looks low enough to jump up to. At that point, jump to the upper lip and grab it, so I can peek over the lip.
Mina, spinning around twice per second, and too far from the ground can't make much sense of her surroundings. She flails around in an effort to steady herself so that she can get a good view, and after a few seconds she manages to slow the spinning enough to track the world around her. The first thing she notices is the dark orange sky above her, and the angular alien stars dotting it, which look notably larger from this height. She suddenly feels an intense sensation of being watched as she looks around the sky, which has far fewer of the syrupy storm clouds than it did earlier. She gets the distinct feeling that this is a [glow=darkorange]bad thing[/glow]
Then you see the sun, and it burns your eyes. You try to shut them, but they refuse, staring straight into a kaleidescope of heated colors, etching themselves into your vision. It's Her, you realize innately. The witch, she's staring at you, and her gaze is fire.
<That's a lot of familiars. Everyone, there's dozens and dozens of familiars and unicorn skeletons over here.>
<..And, they're going to come out and kill us...>
A second later, Alida gets an idea. Hearing the music. And knowing Tooru can do this.. if she gets help.

<Tooru, I know you can change the world around you with a song. Well.. we need to go up. Do you know "Stairway to Heaven?">
<Just wait a sec, I'm going to get the others.>
Get Tooru and Mina together, make sure they know the plan. Get Asha and Sasha.
"I'm sorry, Sasha, Asha, but we have to go now. There's fifty of those clay people coming for us in a minute. It's not safe here. We need to fight now, or we all die. Come on, we can do it. And then there will be time for this."
"I need you, Asha, to save our lives. Tooru is going to cast a big spell that will let us reach the sky above, and finish this. I need you to heal her soul, so that it may lift us up there."
If necessary, activate CC and haul the two of them out of the room, with force, to where Tooru and Mina is. Request Tooru to cue the music, and Asha to heal her soul (flagellation) to keep Tooru alive. If Tooru casts the spell and Asha refuses to help, hold up the bat and ask if Asha is willing to let Tooru die right in front of her.
Upon hearing Alida's telepathic message, Asha flinched.
<What?! Where are you right now? Are you okay, did they notice you? I'm with Aleksandra, are you with Mina and Tooru?>
(Fifty of those clay peoples, dozens and dozens of familiars she said? Also what did she mean by "time for that?") Asha looked at Aleksandra, waiting for a response from the girl, and would leave to meet up with the others afterward. She also used the Memento she left to Aleksandra to check on her state.
Tooru inhaled, trying to set her face into some semblance of determination. <Yeah, I think I can remember it.> She wasn't looking forward to what came next. She'd already surprised herself by not being a sobbing wreck at this point; Tooru didn't consider herself to have a particularly high pain tolerance, and injury seemed to be drawn to her at this point.
Do as Alida requests.
Mina took a deep breath, and another, and nodded. <O-Ok, I'll do everything I can!> Things were getting... very dangerous. She didn't want to die. Not when she'd just gotten a reprieve from exactly that fate. So she would put all she had into making sure that didn't happen, to her or to the others...
Also follow the plan!
<Thank you, everyone, keep it up, we're going to make it!>
<Mina, you can do illusions, yes? Try to keep them off us. Hide us, confuse them, whatever. They're coming for us!>
<I'm going for the kill.>
<And make sure that song continues!> (Assist actions, pls?)
Tie my bat to my wrist using the normal ribbon from Asha, and tie the rubber one around my left ankle, picking up the other end for free movement. Then burn rubber for the top of the stairs, and the witch. Activate Painless if there is nothing that requires facebashing, CC otherwise.
Sing along with Tooru, if possible while running.
<Okay.> Tooru didn't send anything much more complex; it was hard to sing and "talk" at the same time, much less with the screeching and being thrown around. She was worried, her back still hurt and her gem was still dark; she was going to run out of magic soon. Still, if they didn't get this witch down, they were all going to die here. . .
Follow everyone in, keep singing. Only attack if I see a perfect opportunity, or I need to do so to save someone. Do my best to evade.
(I wonder who rolled a 1?)
<G-Guys? What happened? I can only, uh... what do you call this magic sense thing? I can only use that...> Mina said through the telepathic link. She couldn't see, feel, hear... nothing with her body. No pain either, though. That was good? Right? Had she... had she-
Then Alida's voice cut in, and she heard Asha too... ok, she was still here. She wasn't... dead then. Right. At least not all dead? <R-Right! Right... I'll try!> She couldn't think about what had happened. If there was any... damage, Asha could heal her, or she could magic everything back in place! S-She had those pictures, after all... she hoped that those had gone to a cloud save or something... b-but it wouldn't be needed. Probably. Alright, that was enough of that.
She might not be able to see with her eyes, but her soul had a respectable range of perception. Could she still help, even like this? She could try...
The obvious answer is Projection. She could... she could hide them, make it so there was rubble where the group was. Maybe she could make some other illusions to confuse the oncoming monsters as to where specifically they were, too... she had to try. And maybe it'd be easier once Asha healed her.
Asha turned livid. "M-Mina! It can't be!" She rushed to the lifeless body of the girl, gasping for air.
She took Mina's body in her arms, staring at the gruesome wound. <Mina! Mina! Keep speaking to me! I... I will do something!> Will... will that even work? It worked on a cat, but... but it was still alive. Oh my god, is she breathing? No- She... her body is dead... But she is still here right? It should work- it has to-
Asha used Soothe on Mina.
((Projection is a primary... and also getting pretty expensive, worth noting.
If you have alternate suggestions or ways to make this better I am open to suggestion.))
(Does Tooru feel she'll be in range if she drops off of the staircase and/or stops singing? That knowledge would help me figure out what to do.)
Twin, I highly recommend that you change the wording of your action. Change "continue to create illusions" to "continue to maintain illusions". This shouldn't cost much in terms of effectiveness because you already have plenty of decoys, will vastly reduce the soul cost because maintaining is cheaper than activation, and will allow you to use a Primary power because maintenance is secondary.
(Yeah.. but when it stops, it's over. No way to do it again, and we might never get a shot at the witch again.)(I prefer life.)
... I tried, didn't I? I wanted to help people.. I wanted to help save lives. I wanted to be a good person, like my father.
But.. I can't do it. I worked for it. I'm not strong enough, fast enough, good enough.. I failed. I made some mistakes too.
.. Why should I live? Nobody likes me. My friends just put up with me. The other girls.. they won't help me, they fight me at every turn. Because I'm a bad person.
Why bother with it? Why bother with them. I should just give up.. I fought so hard and got so little.
But I won't go witch. I'll just go away.
Hold on for now.
Asha let out a sigh of relief. She couldn't believe it worked, magical powers didn't stop impressing her everyday. "Mina! Oh thank god it worked... How are you feeling?" There was no immediate answer, and Asha quickly understood why upon looking at her surroundings. Even in that state, she was fighting.
Then before she knew it, an explosion struck the top of the icehill. And- "Alida!"
Asha messily started running toward the direction she thought Alida fell, trying to sense her presence. Then she noticed Aleksandra's abnormal state. She hesitated, pausing a second. <Aleksandra?>
Alida. I must hurry. I can talk to Aleksandra while I look for Alida. Asha resumed her search for Alida's body, simultaneously trying to get an answer from Aleksandra via telepathy. Their link was likely clear thanks to the Memento, and maybe she could use that link to help Aleksandra in some way. <Aleksandra snap out of it! I- I know you are scared, no, terrified, but you are not alone! Listen to my voice, I know you can do it. What happened was an accident! There is something only you can do! Aim true, and shoot that witch!>
Asha said to the other girls via telepathy:
<I asked Aleksandra to provide support fire, I'm now on my way to help Alida! Mina, Tooru, be careful!>
Send encouragements/orders to Aleksandra: use your gun to shoot at the Witch!
Search for Alida, and hopefully get there in time. Use Soothe if I can reach her body...
Where? Where?... Alida, where are you?...
((Projection is a primary... and also getting pretty expensive, worth noting. It's a good thing Mina's been keeping pretty light on soul use up until now... I hope this one gives a multi-use seed or something, we're all gonna be pretty low. If you have alternate suggestions or ways to make this better I am open to suggestion.))
<Don't give up! We can do this!> Mina shouted over the telepathic link, but besides that kept her focus after trying to get to cover.
Alright, first up, get on the move and find some cover to make it harder to be found. Second up - continue to maintain illusions to distract, confuse, and divert fire. That should be easier with sight, now. As suggested, they'll drop once hit and revealed as illusions to save on power. If Alida is in sensory range, make sure to tell Asha a safe-ish route to her. If it's possible to do that too, try and find a safer way to reach the witch - once she goes down, everything else does.
Tooru stops singing, then waits on the bridge long enough for the first attack to be launched. Dodge using mobility, and continue to move defensively until I think I have a sure shot with the strongest mana bolt barrage I can get for Cheap using talismans.
Do I still have the rubber ribbon? I'd like to try that attack I was talking about.Spoiler: MG biology notes (click to show/hide)
((Is Memento locked on the first person that got it, or does it affect the current holder regardless of who first got it?
If it is the latter, a thing I wanted to try out ever since Asha absorbed the Witch Maria's gem: Tooru could get her hands on the Memento-ribbon held by Aleksandra, she could kamikaze while Asha soothe her from a distance :p))
Memento - At major cost, create a wearable item that is quite obvious--a ring, ribbon, or something of the sort. If given to another person, gain benefits, and lose soul if you remove it--they cannot, if they willingly put it on. "Passive", but with secondary effects.
((I could have sworn that I wrote a post... Well, here's an action, at least.))
Tooru moves around the hill towards the side opposite the one she attacked from. She tries to assess damage dealt, then dashes to the nearest cover. Midway through, if it seems feasible, aim another Cheap manabolt at the joint of one of the witch's "wings."
"Thank you Asha. I was worried I was alone there."
With that, Alida hugs Asha.
"Thank you.. I don't know what I was going to do there for a moment."
"But.. we gotta get moving. I know we can't make it much longer, and Tooru is worse off than I am."
Get moving. Try to stay in cover/hiding from the witch, but get closer to tethergirl range. Try to find the rubber ribbon as well. In either case, activate Effigy, as I'll need to attack soon.. Tooru can't hold out much longer. If I do find the rubber ribbon, tie on on my leg and then activate effigy.
(After spotting the witch.)
<Dammit, why are they always so huge?>
(Quick answer until I find time and motivation to fluff it up)
Asha helped Mina stands up, and ran to return to the center of the action, where her help could be needed. If there was any familiar blocking the way, she would use her Close-Combat powers to dismiss them.
She ordered to Aleksandra:
"Get away from the Witch's path! Take cover and resume providing support fire!"
"G-Guys, what can I do to help? I'm running out of ideas..." Mina said - calm, calm... she had these magical abilities, could she do something?
Try to think of what to do - if anyone offers something that seems plausible, do it.
(For Mina.)
Keep the first set of illusions active and drawing fire, for now at least. Use Semblance to grow wings, shrinking the body a bit to reduce the extra mass needed to be created, but not too much, as I'd like to carry the halberd and remain large enough to grab someone or be grabbed. Move into a position where I'll be ready to attack next turn, or can help one of the others do so.
((Being a little specific would be helpful :p((Unless you make multiple flying pairs attacking from different directions.
I probably could do both but I figure it wouldn't be hard to figure out that the one being flown around is the real Tooru :p))
..."Asha, I need you to do that thing where you hit me to give me more magic again. I think I could blow up the witch in one shot, but I need the magic to do it, and I don't know if I can actually get a bomb into her chest. You really can't wait, though, we need to do this now."...
<Asha, could you please help me with this.. batting practice? I could use someone to throw the bricks up so I can just concentrate on hitting them where they need to go.><Battling practice? Is that really the moment?>
<I'm getting a bit more used to this multiple bodies thing.. I'll try to provide some cover.>
Activate CC. Have the main body collect a few bricks for defensive purposes. The plan is that body uses her baseball bat club to bat brick bits into incoming fire from the witch, hopefully detonating the manabolt before it hits Mina or anyone else. The CC reflexes, and with the other body spotting, should make this more practical. If, somehow, nobody is attacked, bat a brick at the witch.
The other body moves a bit westwards, jumps the creek, and if in range, jumps to the witch, bat first, trying to slam through the witch for serious damage.
..."Asha, I need you to do that thing where you hit me to give me more magic again. I think I could blow up the witch in one shot, but I need the magic to do it, and I don't know if I can actually get a bomb into her chest. You really can't wait, though, we need to do this now."...
Asha nodded at Tooru, and took a deep inspiration.
"Grit your teeth Tooru, this is not going to be pleasant..."<Asha, could you please help me with this.. batting practice? I could use someone to throw the bricks up so I can just concentrate on hitting them where they need to go.><Battling practice? Is that really the moment?>
Asha failed to understand the intent of Alida. Wasn't it a bit too late to train your aim? And right now, she was more focused on Tooru's protection.
Ash uses Flagellation on Tooru, and stays close to her. If Alida needed some bricks and rubbles to bat, Asha gently threw some at her.
Tooru focused for a moment, calling another one of her talismans into existence. This one was different, though; it was a little bigger, and it had the symbol for. . . ruins? She wasn't really sure, and the situation made it a tad difficult to wrack her brain for some obscure kanji she never used anyway.
Use Outburst with the controllable detonation variant after Asha uses her Flagellation. Hand the bomb over to Mina so she can drop it when the opportunity seems right. If she's going to lose the bomb before it reaches its destination, try to catch it myself. Only toss it if it seems to have good odds of landing in the witch's center.
Mina hadn't been sure how it would turn out, after that first horrifying go at her ability. But she had to try, something, anything, to help. And it worked! She could fly! Kinda!
Once she got over that and spared a glance at the witch, she saw the witch, saw the shockwave the scream produced. Remembering what had happened earlier, she braced herself as best as she could and seemed to make it out only a little worse for wear. But that didn't mean the others were fine. She had to get back to them.
<Tooru, right! I'll get over there as quickly as I can! Until then I'll make sure the Witch keeps off you!> she relayed to Tooru as she got to her feet and brushed herself off. Then, Alida's message came through. <I'll try, I'm on my way to Tooru now!>
First up, keep the illusions going - try to distract the Witch from where Tooru really is. Then, fly over to Tooru, quick as possible without drawing too much of the Witch's attention herself. Maybe try and get some kind of change to stabilize the flight before taking off, like Alida suggested.
((Going with this for now - suggestion welcome))
Have whatever illusions I have left be as distracting as possible.
Yess!
<I think it might not like that. We'd better scatter.>
Keep CC active. Help Tooru get away, unless Asha already has that covered. If that occurs, help Mina get into the air instead, after she gets the bomb from Tooru. Flee roughly rightwards, over/through the familiar, to the far side of the building Sasha's hiding behind, trying to get behind cover again.
If I have to attack the familiar, try to smash that tie and knock it a good few feet away. Or smash all the torso, really.
Second body moves in to attack this turn, as it should be within jumping range now. Aim to get high and do some smashes. If the bomb is coming in, let go and drop down to try and hopefully avoid most of the blast.
Tooru panted, in both equal parts exhaustion and pain at this point. She nodded dully, heaving herself into motion again at Alida's words; her telepathic response was a formless, tired-sounding (feeling?) affirmative. She handed the talisman to Mina, hoping the girl was mobile enough to get the bomb onto the witch. The redhead very nearly slapped herself in an effort to regain focus; she had to pay attention, had to make sure the bomb went off on time. Pressing the talisman into Mina's hands, she spoke breathily. "It should stay like it is until I tell it to blow up. Just make sure it goes towards the center of the witch and I'll set it off. I believe in you, Mina!" And with that, she dashed off, with Alida's assistance and waving at Asha to get moving too.
Tooru hands the bomb over and gets ready to set it off when it seems to be around center "mass" on the witch. She tries to set a path that splits from the others, but meets up at the next patch of cover, and suggests Asha do the same.
Mina took a few deep breaths. She was in pain, but she still functioned. It would have to be good enough. She took the talisman from Tooru and nodded. "Everything's sore, but I can still fly! Right right. I can do this. I can do this!" she said, preparing to take off.
<Try and keep it's attention off me! I'm going for it!> she said over telepathic link, and took off into the air. She could do this. She had to do this, there wasn't a choice in the matter.
Take the bomb. Try and bring it to the witch - maybe a roundabout path once it's attention is focused on the others, to keep it from aiming at me? Have whatever illusions I have left be as distracting as possible. Let's hope that I've got this flying thing down (although if it ends up needed, a change for stabilization... all the marbles and all). Once I manage to get the bomb going to the center of the witch, bolt because I do not want to be near it when it goes off.
(Other suggestions? This is basically all I can think of.)
In her hiding spot, Aleksandra takes a moment to try to collect her thougths and grasp the current situation.
So this was the so-called "witch". More than the evil magician in a broom she had imagined, this abominable monster seemed to be beyond comprehension. The shock of seeing Alida die had temporally desensitized her, but she could feel herself close to panicking again.
She considered checking how many bullets did she have left, but almost immediately dismissed the idea. Whatever that thing was, it was clear that shooting wouldn't help. Worse, she might hit another of the girls again.
All she could do to help was to stay out of the way and hope that the girls manage to defeat the witch. She felt useless, but at least the others wouldn't have to risk themselves to protect her yet again.
Asha... Everyone... Please don't die.
Peek out of cover and try to see what's currently going on. What can I see from my hiding spot?
Steel armadillo.((Pfft. Tardigrades (https://youtu.be/RALtqFPyvQk) for (eternal) life :P))
((Actually, combining your regen and self-modding abilities to temporarily assume the form of a steel ball or something might not be a terrible idea.))
((No harm done, I'll admit to taking that in a more hostile tone than it really seems to be. I was tired when I posted that.))
A scream, and then all too suddenly, a terrible, terrible silence.
Tooru tried not to panic. She couldn't panic, not now. She had to do something, anything to help Mina. It was her idea that had gotten her where she was. The only thing that kept her from a full breakdown was hearing Mina's "voice" in her head; she was still alive, and they could still save her. Tooru stood up through the haze of pain and exhaustion, and cocked her arm back for one more toss. She took a moment to try and feel out what Alida was doing, where Mina was - then made her throw.
Target the side opposite Alida's attack with the strongest Cheap manabolt, using my talisman. Try to open up a hole above Mina's soul gem, using her description and as much as I can get from telepathy with her to target the shot.
((Aight, I'll kick it off, then.))
<Mina, talk to me!>
Activate CC, one last time. Body #2 is going to climb the immobilized leg, or the pillar sticking out of the ice, whatever's easiest, and try to get to the back/torso region. Try for a heart shot from there, stand on the witch and bash down into that general area.
The other body is going to launch another brick, but this time as an attack. Aim for the eyes, or what would be the nose. If Mina's still alive, that should give her some help.
Drop Painless if uninjured after this turn.
((In any case, Twin, you should drop the illusions. They're no longer doing any good.
Maybe a new one where you're spicy hot or bad tasting. But then the witch might spit the bomb back out.))
Everyone suddenly went silent again. Telepathy, right? The talking-with-your-mind thing Asha did with her before. She was a little annoyed that she wasn't included in whatever they were all talking about, not seeing why they couldn't just talk normally. She realizes that it might be something important. Something happened, probably something wrong. Alida, Tooru and Asha. Someone is missing.
She feels the air getting colder around her, and tigthens her beloved scarf, like she does when she's nervous. The warmth helped her stay calmed. Aleksandra didn't want to hear the answer, but asked anyways.
"...W-Where's Mina?"
<I-I'm here... my soul gem is fine, even if my body... isn't. I-I'm sorry, I messed up... t-the bomb made it in, but it's really really close to me so that might not be great to do...>
((Other ideas welcome))
Drop the illusions, and describe my body's position in the witch in case they want to try and blow a hole in it to get me out.
Tooru collapsed into the ash, the urgency of the situation overwhelmed by the sheer pain. She gasped and coughed, the inhalation only serving to get flecks of ash into her throat. She pushed herself to her feet haphazardly, trying to get away from the stuff before it caused her coughing fit to continue. Mina had gone silent right then, right as that terrible feeling exploded like a bomb in her head.
<Mina? Mina!? Are you there? Please tell me you're there.> Each second seemed to stretch out into eternity as she waited for a reply. She barely knew the girl, but they'd just been fighting for their lives together. And now, it seemed, no longer, as the only response she recieved was a crushing, thunderous silence.
She couldn't cry. Not yet. Not until she knew her sacrifice wasn't in vain.
Detonate the bomb.
"Mina!"
With that, Alida redoubled her efforts.
Mina.. she tried. I can't let her die for nothing. I need to kill this witch now before any more people have to die.
It's.. just so big, and I'm not strong enough.
Continue with CC activated, the body on the witch will try to move a bit higher on the witch and smash harder. Closer to where the heart and lungs would be, maybe? The important bits? The other body will try to activate berzerker by dislocating her left shoulder.. by pulling on it with the right arm.
This is.. going to hurt. It did a lot last year, when I fell off that roof and my sleeve got caught in the gutter.. but I have to. It hurt but they could pop it back in, and hopefully it'll be like that this time.
<Tooru.. can you do me a favor?>
<Stay alive. Don't worry about me if you have to blow up the bomb. If we all die, this witch will just kill more people, and more people..>
((Good stuff.))((Nothing I can think of, maybe try using telepathy and suggesting her to help in the fight instead.))
((Any orders for Asha?))
((I think Alida's too distracted to manage more than asking Tooru to help out. I mean, right at this moment she is falling to her death, while trying to explain something to someone else, with a completely different body, while in intense pain, and feeling whatever berzerker makes you feel.))((No, I mean I really have no idea what orders to give her. I meant to say that you could give her an action and justify it as using telepathy to tell her what to do.))
(Yow.)
Activate CC once more.
The body on the ground will untie Asha's ribbon from her club, to use in a different way now, and ties it around a larger chunk of brickwork, so it can handle a lot more force. I'm not sure if the berzerker bonus outbalances the one-arm penalty, but then use the club to smash the chunk of brickwork at the witch, aiming for the damaged shoulder, to smash through it and try to sever that arm. If the arm is already severed and functioning despite that, aim for the center of mass, or any obvious centre to the flow of regenerating glass.. if it's regenerating.
(Tooru is the person next to Alida, correct?)
Hopefully Tooru, if she doesn't attack on her own, will help Alida with the tying and the shot, as Alida is probably vibrating with pain, adrenaline, rage, magic, and excitement at the moment. Plus Tooru's manabolts use talismans, right? Perhaps that manabolt magic can fit inside this ribbon totem, maybe?
The falling body will, if something is in reach, try to hook the club around it for leverage to swing towards a safe landing. Preferably, towards the fight/base of the free leg area. Attacking this round is probably right out.
If nothing is in range, throw the club at the ground to hopefully smash the ice below her, allowing a potentially easier drop into the water.
(Main Alida is probably going to be charging into battle next turn if the falling body dies. I'd recommend giving order for Asha, Randomgenericusername, as Nak isn't available and Sasha is right there.)
Assist Alida as requested, but additionally pepper the thing with enough (talisman-less) manabolts to add up to a Minor cost, or until the thing actually seems to die, one of those two. Aim for the arm she's supporting herself with, and center-of-mass shots.
<Head for the doorway!>
"Head for the doorway!"
Activate Painless. I do not want to miss the ride out of here. Head for the closest doorway, either the one that Sasha saw or the one we came in, and if it's absent, get as far away from the witch as possible, behind as many walls as possible. Help Tooru, as she's beside me, or anyone else in the vicinity if she's outpacing me. Make sure Asha is helping Sasha along.. if not, do so myself, Tooru, wounded as she is, should still be faster and have a better chance.
The other body is probably too close. Just.. drop effigy and let it vanish before it gets exploded. I've been hurt enough for one day.
"And keep running once we're through!"
<And keep running once we're through!>
Grab Sasha and pull her to the closest doorway, as fast as possible. Shut the door once we're inside.
Aleksandra, still panicking, wondered why did she even come to this place. She knew she would be useless without powers, but insisted on pretending to be brave. What was she trying to prove? All she did was make things worse for everyone by being there.
Dammit, Aleksandra! Get ahold of yourself! This isn't time for this!
Her fear is gradually replaced for a feeling of anger. She was angry with herself for being so weak, for being such a coward. What was she whining for? She still had her wish. She still could change things...<Head for the doorway!>

<And keep running once we're through!>
Sasha suddenly snaps back to reality after hearing Alida's voice.
"Alida? Alida! What happened?"
Still confused, afaird and not really understanding what was going to happen, she grabbed Asha's hand and ran as fast as she could, towards the doorway Alida mentioned. She had to survive, for their sake.

Put my Mobility to use and sprint through the door as well, doing my best not to impede progress
Does the light of our gems provide any illumination?
"Asha..."
Aleksandra gives Asha a bear hug and begins crying and sobbing over her shoulder.
"Why do you have to be such a kind and forgiving person?! It's my fault that Mina is now gone! I don't deserve this, Asha, I'm horrible person..."
Yes, she can check on her soul.
Does the light of our gems provide any illumination?
We're out.. but dammit, Mina, dammit. Could we have all made it out? Alida then loosens and clenches her fist a few times, and then leans up against the round wall
Just.. be strong a bit longer. Get everyone out, and.. find that seed too, so Tooru and I don't die too.. and then we can celebrate.
<Thank you, Tooru, Asha.. Sasha, too. We made it.>
<Just.. gotta find our way out.>
<Let's.. try our phones, and see if we can see the light of them. And.. listen for each other. And use our senses... we should be able to find our way out.>
Exchange shouts to try and hear each other. Shout as loudly as I can. Extend and try to use my magical senses, with Tooru, to try and locate the other girls, any rescued people, or the grief seed. If we can find any sense of one of them, have one of us go to the light in the distance while the other remains here to see if we have a way out or another location or such.
In general, search for each other, search for the surface, and try to find each other or a way out. I should be able to mark paths, with my berzerker strength. If not, well, use my own blood. If we're really far away, probably best to surface and look around up there first for a closer spot or Pumsy, who should be able to reunite us.
Don't use any magic other than continuing Painless, assuming it's free from Berzerker.
Maybe Pumsy is here
Dammit, though, I liked you Mina. I shouldn't have made you fight, you'd still be safe.
Next time.. I'll be the front line, so the rest of you can help out by rescuing people or fighting from afar, or setting up big magic while being nice and safe. Let me risk the deadly things.
.. if there is a next time. Dammit, where are you? All this fumbling in the dark.
Mina's dead, everyone's lost and hurt.. but maybe it doesn't have to stay this bad.
<Asha.. can you tell Sasha that I'd like to talk about her wish when we get out of this?>
...Not right time to mention Gradpa's illness yet.
Despite everything that had happened so far, Sasha hadn't feel so happy in her life since her days in Russia. When Papa disappeared and Grandpa went sick, no one was there to support her until now.
Today was an intense night for Aleksandra. She felt so many conflicting emotions in so little time, she didn't even know how to react half of the time. For now, she decided to stay silent and enjoy these precious moments of peace, before having to make her wish and return "home".
Aleksandra tightly holds Asha's hand and lets her guide her in the dark.
Do move forward slowly. Keep my club on the wall to help with orientation. If I run into the other girls, try to be very careful with the badly-needed hugs to not cripple them.
Stop upon getting to an intersection, easy enough to turn around a passageway.
(Looks like you have to press your gem against the seed to use it, so not likely to happen by bumping into it by accident.)
Tooru slumped, barely able to scrape together the motivation to move; now that the adrenaline was fading, the pain of the wounds she'd had Asha inflict on her was starting to come in at full force. Not to mention having lost Mina; she couldn't help but feel it was her fault. It was her bomb she'd asked the girl to deliver, and she was the one that couldn't figure out where to blast the witch and get her out in time. ". . . did we at least get the seed?" she asked, exhaustion clear in her voice.
Look for the seed for a bit, while generally ambling towards the exit.
Everyone is lazy jerk, me included. As requested, all secondary\named characters from and to linked posts, unless i somehow skipped someone. Didn't reread and don't remember about anyone later. :PSpoiler (click to show/hide)
Alida puts Sasha down. Close up, you can see she's got a few tears.
"I'm sorry about that.
".. what I do know is that Pumsy likes to be a little secret about what you can and can't do with your powers. You gotta really try and corner him if you need a straight answer to a question, don't let him wiggle around. And cats are good at wiggling.
I think what he said is that since it is your magic that would wind back time, you can't wind back time to before you were a magical girl. You also can't wish for something to have changed in the past, because it'd be your magic that's changing it, and in the past you didn't have magic.
So.. maybe you can bring Mina back? But not by wishing her death didn't happen, maybe by wishing her to be alive now? And you could have the power to turn back time, but it won't let you turn back time to before you made the wish? Maybe one or the other then.. Mina alive, or the ability to turn back time."
"I don't know. Just be careful with how you say it."

((Yes, everyone should know that magical girls become witches. The idea that there would be no wishes without witches entirely depends on what questions were asked of Pumsy; he wouldn't use those precise words, but if asked he would say that witches are, in a way, a consequence of gaining a wish. In Aleksandra's case, her initial meeting with Pumsy--and all later interactions with him and the magical girls--was actually RP'd in PMs or in this thread, and to my recollection she never asked any questions about the cost of a wish.))
((Hello. Once again I show up after months of disappearance, though this time, only to tell that I don't have any time available in my life to return. I'm so sorry for disappearing all of a sudden, breaking my promise, and only coming back to basically tell you I can't come back.((Oh, I'll miss Asha. Hopefully everything goes back to normal for you after the month. Also, you didn't miss much other than Mina getting her soul gem crushed and dying permanently, and the witch exploding into a nova.))
I had legitimate reasons at first, that made it impossible for me to even access to the internet, but ever since a month ago I could have come back, but didn't due to studies and lack of courage.
I can't even muster the strength to read through what I missed. I will leave the fate of Asha in your hands everyone. Thanks for the amazing game, I wish I could have gone through it fully.
See you in a month I hope.))
Nah, Nakéen's out even if they suddenly came back saying they want to keep playing; I've already told Paris that he's in, and figured out what to do with Asha. The delay is just because my crippling insecurities make writing this stuff feel impossible. A couple more days and the terrifying specter of failure will get big enough to force me to write something, don't worry.
Impatience.I hope not. I really don't want to see this game being forgotten and dying.
(Nobody's going to forget the game exists just because it drops from the first page.)

EDIT: amazing comment: "Hey, president, don't chase after money, say all like it is, without lies."
Tooru nodded hesitantly. "I promise I'll do better with it." She brought the Seed to her own gem, hoping that it would be enough for Alida once she was finished.
((Also, confirmation on Tooru being able to take Brave powers? Bravery is tied for her worst stat, after all. If I can, I'm thinking of taking Berserker to get that full machinegun mode, and/or Painless to compensate for how squishy she is if she takes a hit.))
((Tooru takes a third level in Totem Manipulation.))
I figured that was the case. Tooru will level Regeneration and Invigorating Passion.
I suspect it's just three standard levels.. in your class or Equanimity. Gotta kill a brave witch to get Brave levels.
Also, whoops, I thought I posted to use the grief seed. Getting those two dislocated shoulders fixed would be nice.

Whatever she wished for, she had to do it now. Deep down, she thought that it would be a waste to wish to transform Alida into a werewolf. But, after everything that happened during this whole disaster, she was spent and just wanted to get the whole wish problem over with.
...Alright, Aleksandra Chernov. You can do this.
She breathes deeply a few times to focus herself.
"Pumsy, I'm ready to make my wish."
No turning back now. No time for second thoughts.
"I wish for Alida to become werewolf, to be able to shapeshift between giant fluffy wolf and her normal body. But not only normal giant fluffy wolf, I wish for her to be able to change between both forms at will, and that her giant wolf form is durable and constantly grows stronger over time."
She turns back to Alida.
"...That was it, right?"
(Also, when Sasha has to return to her home, she brings Asha with her and sneaks from the way she left the house from.)
Alida just freezes and holds Aleksandra's body for a minute, wondering what just happened in silent confusion.
Tooru looked at Aleksandra in surprise as she rattled off her wish. She hadn't really expected her to make a decision right then, much less use it on someone else. She almost felt guilty; all she'd done with her chance was get some bullies to leave her alone. Whatever further ponderings she may have had were interrupted as Sandra slumped over.
The redhead initially assumed that it had something to do with her wish being granted, the shock of becoming a magical girl making her faint or something. When she didn't pop up after a moment, though, panic set in quickly. "Asha, w-what's happening?"[/color] She looked around quickly, her eyes taking little time to alight on Pumsy. "What are you doing to her!?"[/color] Almost unconsciously, an array of talismans appeared in one of her hands, and she cocked her hand as if she was getting ready to throw them at the creature. And perhaps she was.
((Question: How much would it cost to make totems with a more playing card-like structure, for better throwability? Would I have to pay to modify each one individually?))
Be uncertain about what's going on. Try to hold onto what's important to me.. the love of my family, the love of my friends, the allies and the people who trusted me, the memories of my father.
Physically.. try to control things. Aleksandra said I could control it, right? That means I should be able to handle this. Ride it out. If it gets very bad, activate Regeneration.
Does telepathy work? Let the others know what's happening.
If it eases and I start feeling better.. look at myself and try these powers out with some capering.
Watch Pumsy, but don't throw the talismans at him
<Not sure.. I have fur under my tongue. I wasn't expecting that.>
<Can you.. can you see how it works? It felt like quite a lot just happened.>
With Asha's direction and my own feelings, try to figure out how to transform as the wish said, and see the results. It felt scary, but surely it won't be scary now that I feel fine, will it? Turn back too.
Alida tries to remember. Sasha was in trouble, she seemed dead while Pumsy was looking at her..
"I don't really remember. I know he looked all weird, and Sasha seemed.. dead.. but she seems ok now."
"And yeah, I don't know about fur under my tongue either. Cute little fangs would have been cool.."
((Sorry, meant to post earlier, but got sidetracked by a number of things.))
"Fur under your tongue. . . ?" She supposed that made sense, but that sounded really annoying. Weren't werewolves just supposed to be normal people when they weren't all monstery?
Tooru nearly jumped as she remembered what she was actually going to talk about. "Did you guys see what Pumsy was doing? He was staring at Sandra and his eyes went pitch dark, it felt like he was trying to kill her or something! And then there was that one time we saw him in the park and he was all scary, too. . ."

(Well, wasn't expecting that. It certainly should help in a lot of situations. I'll do my best to make it effective and hopefully efficient.)
This could be good. It wasn't what I expected, but if I was like this before, that last witch would have had a much harder time stopping me.. maybe Mina wouldn't have died.
"It's okay. It was just me in there. When I was all wolfy it was just me. There's no creature in there, it's just my body that was different." "Is different."
"I do think I need to practice with the new body some, but don't worry, I think you did good."
.."Thank you again, Sasha. And thank you, Asha for helping me out."
As for the timeskip, basically I want to try and mend things with my family, keep up with my friends, and spend a couple evenings practicing with this new form. Perhaps get inside a junkyard, or another closed business with a fence, and see if I can figure out exactly what counts for changing forms, and running around and such, to get a feel for how the new body works, and what it can do. Can I speak in it or just growl? Also try to figure out in what way is it growing stronger.
After I've got a handle on it, I think I want to give that boat owner a bad night in return for killing my father indirectly. Make a mask of some sort, and carry a bat, but break into his place as a giant wolf, (or sneak in and suprise him by changin inside his living room or something, and scare him by knocking him to the ground and leaning over him with my toothy jaw. Then transform back to human and ask him some questions about his motivations for operating dangerous ships.. ie, if he's just an asshole or if there's something else going on.
"That was a little terrifying." She wasn't quite sure what to make of it. As she pondered the question, a brief flash of envy crossed her consciousness. Why did Alida get something special and she didn't? Heck, all she got out of her own wish was something she could have gotten if she had been a magical girl in the first place. Tooru blinked. No, it was fine. She should just be happy to be alive and that she has what she has already. "I bet it'll be really helpful going forward though!"
For timeskip things, Tooru is gonna do some detective work. Figure out what exactly happened with her wish, anyway. Maybe try to find Pumsy and squeeze some answers out of him. Don't do so much that she gets isolated from her family, though; they must be very worried about her. Also, keep hanging out with Asha, maybe invite her over a couple times (if she's okay with that.)
Aleksandra didn't know whether to cry tears of joy or sorrow. Her mind was still a mess trying to process everything that had happened so far, from Mina's death, the defeat of the witch, the grief seed, her wish, Alida, Tooru, Grandpa, Asha... She didn't know how to express her thoughts with words. She opened her mind and focused her thoughts towards Asha, and hoped that their connection and telepathy would allow Asha to understand what was going through her mind.
She looks at her bright soul gem. It felt weird to have one's soul inside some shiny gemstone. And the light was very strong, unlike Asha's gem. Is that how you measured the value of a soul? She wondered if Asha was feeling sad because of using part of her soul on her Grandpa. Did she felt it was a waste of soul since he was already close to dying of old age anyways?
Looking at her arm, she notices she's still wearing Alida's coat. It felt so comfortable to wear she had completely forgotten about it. Alida... She felt kind of guilty for using her wish on her like that, the thought of werewolves being different on this country had never crossed her mind. She made a mental note to try to contact her on the following days and return her coat. It was her fault things ended like this, after all. Was Asha angry at her for causing this disaster?
Part of her was also regretful. She could have wished to see her Papa again, or at least to know what happened to him. It was hard for Sasha to make the choice between using the wish for herself or for the team. She wondered if this made her a horrible person. She then looks back to Asha. She basically dragged her here by force. Did she heal her Grandpa out of guilt, against her will?
It was a strange situation. Sasha was trying to do her best to comfort Asha, but she felt the reason she was like this was because of her. She didn't even know where to begin. Maybe she was unhappy because she had to use part of her soul. Pumsy and the others talked about how could one turn into a witch when their soul gem ran out of power. Was Asha worried about turning into a witch? Did seeing her Grandpa remind her of something?
Lastly, she's reminded of when the girls talked about Grief Seeds. She still remembers clearly what Pumsy said:
...She wasn't all that strong, only Mina died.
Only Mina died. Every time they used their magic, they lost a little of their soul. And unless they wanted their gems to run out of power, they would have to continue fighting, maybe forever. Just now, by using her powers to heal Sasha's Grandpa, Asha was a little closer to turning into a witch. Maybe her power wouldn't be enough for the next witch if it's stronger than the last one. And then...
Aleksandra clutched Asha's hand tightly. They might have known each other for barely a day, but...
<...I'm sorry, Asha. For everything. Please... Don't die.>
But... what can you do about it?
(big doggo)
(Well, wasn't expecting that. It certainly should help in a lot of situations. I'll do my best to make it effective and hopefully efficient.)

After I've got a handle on it, I think I could confront the survivor of the boat wreck, and see if that guy was an asshole or what. Maybe involve some giant wolf stuff?
If I've got time, there's one last thing to test. What is Duet with Reality like in wolf form? I'm pretty sure I can only howl. Try an isolated area for that, like out of town or an industrial site on a weekend night. Use the minimum amount of power, and maintain it for no more than one additional turn after the start.
"That was a little terrifying." She wasn't quite sure what to make of it. As she pondered the question, a brief flash of envy crossed her consciousness. Taking a deep breath, and making sure she's in ordinary clothing and not her MG outfit, Alida walks up to the door and knocks.
"Alida.. Alida Larsen. Are you Mr. Takeda?"
Tooru took a deep breath. "I want to know what's going on with you. I saw the way you reacted when Sasha made her wish; your eyes went all pitch black. And there's all this other stuff that's been weird with you, too." Her tone sounded accusatory, and indeed it was; her trust in the fuzzy creature, as much as it pained her, was waning fast, and the way her week had gone wasn't exactly helping her feel diplomatic. As she spoke, she prepared to grab Pumsy if he tried to run away, as well as reaching out with what magical senses she had. She'd smelled despair rolling off of him in waves that one time, and wanted to check if anything similar happened.
Hurry behind the house, go into the rear yard, and find a place next to the wall that's at least partially obscured from the windows. Then roll over onto my back, turn into a wolf, and listen in. Try to figure out what's going on inside the house.
Sidle around to the front door, standing hinge-side. When the russian leaves, push the door shut with one paw, and knock him to the ground with the other front paw. Bare my teeth over him, movie-monster style, growl a bit and let some saliva drip.
Then pick him up with my mouth and carry him out of the neighborhood towards the nearest clear area, such as a viaduct or train underpass. Try not to kill him, and don't move fast enough to drop him. I'd like to ask this guy some questions.
As you speak, you try to strengthen your connection to Asha, to understand her more clearly. It works, at first - the vauge sensation of sadness quickly grows more defined. You can make out a swirl of complex emotions: a general miasma of guilt, darkening her mind except for a slight spark of altruism, directed towards you; a sharp regret, old but painful, like a scab that's been freshly ripped off; and a crushing sense of self-hatred, overpowering everything else. You gasp as the emotions flow into your mind, confused and overwhelmed by the sudden rush. You stare into Asha's eyes, not understanding, and then the connection almost entirely ends--you can still sense her mind, so very close, but there's suddenly a wall between the two of you. She closes her eyse and turns her face away from you.
<That's.. not it. You can stop worrying. I can't die. I wished not to die.>
You can't accept that, she shut you out, but what you already saw was terrible enough! You ask what's wrong, if she's not worried about death. She's initially silent, but you keep at it, growing more insistent and worried for your friend. Eventually, she relents, leaning back against a wall and sliding down into a sitting position.
<That ribbon you have. It's my sister's. All my ribbons are. Claire would always wear it, just like you've been doing, and I keep thinking that you look like her. You're just a bit older, and your hair...>
She starts to cry now, tears running down her face silenetly as she speaks into your mind.
<Claire was sick, and my parents were sick, and I was sick, and I wished to not die, and I didn't! But they did! And I thought my wish was stupid, and I could have wished for them too, but I didn't, so I ran away! But... I didn't know then, but I didn't make a bad wish, they didn't have to die! I didn't have to run away!>
She stops talking, pulling her knees up to her face and hiding it with her hands. You're too stunned to respond, at first, and then it occurs to you why she's going through this now, just after saving your grandpa. If her family was sick, and she can heal sick people, then she could have healed her family, instead of leaving them to die. You watch as the gray-haired girl starts to sob quietly. She's still blocking you off from her emotions, but you saw enough already to understand.
But... what can you do about it?
"Thanks for the compliment. She's nearby, you looked kinda out of it when she put you down over there, probably lost a few minutes."
"Do you feel up for answering some of my questions yet? Such as your name and who you work for?"
Sasha breathes a sigh of relief upon hearing Asha's reply. At least this wasn't her fault, unlike almost everything else that went wrong during this entire day. She wasn't sure if there was anything she could possibly do that would help Asha, but that didn't stop her from trying.(http://Aggghhh, RGU, why must you write such an excellent response? Successfully comforting Asha is BAD, she's on a railroad out of the story because she's playerless! Now she's gotta be all OOC to stay on track! >.<)
<...If it makes you feel better, you're not only one. Papa...>
Guilt. Regret. Despite not knowing much about Asha's situation, those feelings were all too familiar to her. She herself wasn't sure about what to do, but she thought it might help Asha to know that she wasn't alone in this. After waiting for a moment for Asha to calm down a little, she starts telling her a story.
<...Back in Russia, I had family, or at least something that resembled one. House was crumbling wooden cabin in middle of woods, snow and bugs every day and night. Can barely even remember their faces, I was very young.>
<Papa spent all his energy and time getting enough food for us. When there wasn't enough for everyone, he would go hunting for it. Papa was always there for us. We were all poor, but happy and it was all thanks to him.>
Aleksandra stops for a moment, reminiscing about her life in the motherland. She wipes some tears before continuing.
<One day, Papa was out hunting and I was with him. I don't remember what we were talking about before, but I clearly remember what I said that day:>
<"I wish we weren't so poor, so Papa could spend more time with us instead of working!" Next month, we were on our way to this country. Papa was fired from his last job, but had found job overseas that offered good money. It was miracle, or so I thought.>
She starts trembling, and burries her face in her scarf so that Asha doesn't see her crying. Wasn't she the one who was supossed to be comforting her?
<...H-He's gone now. And it was all my fault. If I hadn't told him about that wish, then Papa... And then, when Pusmy told me I had wish, I...>
Sasha continues crying for a while before calming down enough to think coherently. She lifts her face and forces a smile towards Asha.
<...You're nice person, Asha, and I think I know how you feel. I don't know if there's anything I can do to help, but I promise you: I'll always be there for you, like Papa was always there for me.>
((Yep. I've been making several changes in my life, username being one of them. I hope this doesn't disrupt anything.))
Tooru obligingly stroked his belly, pondering his answer for a moment. Pumsy could be in multiple places at once; it seemed to be the case before, and now he confirmed it. There had to get a way to get a straight answer out of him about what had happened earlier - not to mention the incident in the park. "Pumsy, how do you grant wishes, anyway? There has to be a reason you don't just go beat up all the witches yourself with all that magic."
Alida sighs, this is all so complicated! Maybe I should have been sneakier.
"I'm in this for revenge. Not against you, against Takeda. I think maybe he killed my dad on that ship.
Was worried you were there to kill him! It was a ship. Could have been millions, could have been insurance, could have been anything."
"I just want to talk to him, and find out what really happened. And if he killed my dad.. well, maybe it's a good thing that he's paying a bunch of money. But maybe he needs something worse to happen."
"So.. I'm going to talk to him soon. And then I maybe want to talk to someone who does know something on your side, just so I don't wreck a guy who owes you millions. But blood comes before money.. and if he killed dad, he should know who he killed, not just feel it was a name or some guy he barely knew."
"Do you have a number? I'll call you after talking to Takeda, and we go from there. Maybe never see each other again, things will be fine. I just let him live to pay your money and show him that he killed someone who wasn't just a name, who was a real person."
Let the guy go. Try to get a number. Takeda can probably wait for a bit for things to cool down.
..Don't TF in front of him, but after splitting up, make sure he sees wolf again, just as a reminder.
Head home. In human form. Avoid Takeda's place on the way.
Just.. during the evening try to get some sleep and be optimistic about tomorrow. and maybe try to sleep as a wolf if there's room on the floor?Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Whatever happens, I should be strong enough to protect my family, after all. And the next witch isn't going to stand a chance. And being a werewolf is fun!
"Huh. . ." So Pumsy acted like a sort of... magical key, unlocking power they had all along? But, that also meant that they could become witches. Magical girls were needed to fight witches, but... Tooru frowned, her petting of Pumsy slowing for a moment as another piece slid into place in her head. "Why do you do it, anyway?"
Well, that was unhelpful. Tooru scratched his cheek as she continued to ponder how to get the information she needed without Pumsy running off. "Is it possible for something to, I don't know, lie to magic or something?" She thought back to the incident in the park. "I know you can use magic to make illusions and stuff, but is there a such thing as an illusion that fools magic?"
Tooru puffed her cheeks out as she thought. Taro hadn't exactly opened up with anything to endear her to his proposal, what with calling her deaf and blind, and she was a bit confused by his logic as well; part of the reason she used to be bullied so badly was her near-psychotic obsession with anything that the adjectives "pink, cute, cuddly, or sparkly" applied to. Then again, she did also like blowing the heads off of aliens in video games, so maybe he had a point about the tomboy thing. . . His proposal was also a way to get out of the house, and while watching jousting didn't sound *that* fun, there might be something else entertaining to do there.
"Fine. But you owe me, like, fifty!" She didn't really know what they were actually measuring, but it was a lot, and thus she was satisfied. Tooru then went to go find her dad and attempt to express a genuine interest in jousting.
"I was thinking of stopping it. I don't know if he's a good person, Mom. I saw him going out with a gun, once, and he seems to work odd hours. I didn't think of it immediately, but maybe he deals drugs or something?"
I did not even expected an update at this point. :o
Tooru blinked, trying to bring her awareness back into herself. Her. . . dad was talking? Dad was talking. And he was worried, right. That made her. . . also worried? She blinked again. "I'm sorry, Papa, the crowd is. . . it's really big." The girl tried to concentrate harder, to narrow her senses back down to herself and her immediate area. Another vague pang of something that was probably still worry flitted across her consciousness again. Why was this happening? Was it a witch, or just the crowd? She should have been more concerned at barely being able to feel herself, but it was hard. "I'll be okay, I promise."
Dammit, Knocker. If you do anything to my family, I WILL kill you. And I'm not going to leave Takeda for long, I'll talk to him tomorrow, so I can tell Knocker to stay the hell away from my family.
Keep talking to the end of dinner, do try to enjoy the rest of it. After dinner, play with the rest of the munchkins as they're around, asking a few questions to see if anyone suspicious is following them around, and then wolf-sleep as usual. Do see if I can growl as a human, I really want to make sure Knocker gets another reminder when I do call him.
..have I noticed the wolf getting stronger yet?

((Should I be concerned that Tooru dying afraid and alone with the knowledge that she has failed to save her family is being referred to as a best case scenario?))
"But.. I have to settle them down!"
Pumsy wouldn't call me if it wasn't important. I need to go.. quick.
Use DwR to sing a song. "Give peace a chance." Keep it up a few turns to calm them down. That'll then let me go help Tooru.
Get them settled, and this time, get moving as a wolf. Pumsy grabbed by the nape of his neck in my mouth, full speed.
Tooru looked around with fear written across her face. "Papa? Taro? Can you hear me? After a moment or three of flitting about in front of them, fruitlessly trying to elicit a response, Tooru turned to face the center of the arena. She took a deep breath, trying and mostly failing to get her heart rate back down to a reasonable level. This was bad, very very bad. She'd seen what witches would do to people ensnared in their labyrinths, and she couldn't let that happen here. But, if Pumsy said that this witch was too powerful, and the last ones had been easy. . . Tooru squeezed her eyes shut for a moment. Am I going to die here? She had to move, she had to do something. With one last glance at her family, she summoned up her magical girl outfit. Summoning up a set of talismans for later throwing, she started to move towards the center of the arena, to hopefully figure out what was going on.
I.. don't think I'm too late. I got here fast!
<Is anyone else coming, Pumsy? Sasha? Asha?>
..I don't want to go in alone, but I don't want to let Tooru be alone. But I don't want the others to not be able to find me when I go in.
I think there are at least two ways in. There should be a big entrance somewhere underground that'll take me into the bowels of the stadium. That might put me closer to where the witch is.
..but most of the people probably came in at the normal, people entrance. If I go in there, I should be closer to Tooru and the other people who must be here too.
I should split up to cover more ground. I can protect the people at the entrance, make sure they get away, and watch for the others. I can also go explore too, not waste much time.
Activate Effigy to make two more copies of me. Take just a moment to look at the giant wolf I am. Then have one body change back. With this one, try to find a phone to call the police.
The second body will stay as a wolf, and go in the main stadium entrance. Once in, howl so that Tooru will know where I am.
The main body, the one with the soul gem, should stay near the entrance, to keep the soul gem as near both bodies as possible. She'll turn back to human once Pumsy is in the labrynth, and try to guide the people out and talk to the police if necessary. Do try to keep a tight hold on that cat, though.. I don't want to be alone in this labrynth, no matter how many extra bodies there are running around.
Tooru glanced frantically between the foes on the field and her family. Logically, she had to keep moving forward; her family should be fine if she dealt with the witch quickly enough, and any time she spent going back would be time she wasn't searching for a way around the swarm of familiars.
Tooru, however, was not a logical person. Fear overwhelmed reason, and she turned around and made a mad dash upward, trying to get to her family and free them, get them off the benches before they were trapped, or failing that destroy the cuffs on them when she got there. "No, no, no, please. . ." she said under her breath as she moved, as if the witch would listen to her pleading.[i/][/i][/i]
I really gotta thank Sasha. I don't think I could face another five story glass monster, but this wolf-body should be easily able to handle familiars.
Alida breathes in and out for a moment.
"Yeah, I'm at the stadium at XXX, and there's something wrong here. I think maybe the beer's bad or something? There's people here, and they just look horribly drunk, like they can't stand up and move right."
She then hangs up the phone. Hopefully they'll be able to take the people pushed out away from the labrynth. Hopefully the cops won't head in and make more victims. Hopefully.
After the call, head in. Human body, with the soul-gem wolf body immediately after it.
Correction. Have the human body ride the wolf body with the soulgem, and enter the labrynth. If I can find my club, have the riding body wield it.
Tooru took deep breaths, trying to stay calm. She had to do something, but that something was less than obvious. If she went down to attack the witch now, she would almost certainly be overwhelmed. The same story held true for if she started with the archers up here, with the added bonus of putting everyone in the stands in danger as the witch's minions shot at her. It was hard to think with the panic gripping her mind. <I-Is there anyone there? I can't do this by myself, and m-my family is here, I don't know what to do.> With a witch appearing like this, another magical girl had to be on her way, right?
She looked around. Maybe she could lure the witch's familiars into a narrow space or something, away from people. Tooru searched the immediate area, looking for a hallway back into the indoor part of the stadium that wasn't blocked off by familiars.
Aleksandra reverently leaves the disassembled rifle on her makeshift shrine, and turns towards the tiger cub.
"...So, finally decided to show up."
In a way, everything bad that happened was Pumsy's fault. Seeing that she no longer needed food or water, things could only end in two ways: She would either die or eventually turn into the very thing she was meant to destroy. While magical girls are the only ones capable of fighting witches, they were also the source of them. It was almost like some sort of twisted joke.
She didn't regret making her wish. It was so ridiculous, but at that moment she just didn't care anymore. Mina was dead, Asha was gone and Pumsy had disappeared without a word and only came back when he needed her help with another witch. A witch that probably used to be a girl just like her, and made a wish with no idea about what would happen. Pusmy was asking for her to clean the mess he made.
In the end, it didn't really matter. It was far too late and nothing could be done now. The witch was beyond saving and not even a wish could bring back the dead. But Tooru was in danger and Alida needed support. The only thing she could do was fight for the sake of those who were still alive. They were soldiers in a war only they could fight. Because if they didn't, who would?
Sasha sighs. If she tried to discuss with Pusmy, he would probably waste precious seconds and not explain anything.
"Just... Just tell me where to go, please. There's no time to waste."
Aleksandra focused on her soul gem, trying to summon a copy of grandpa's rifle with a sling to carry on her back, and changing to her combat outfit. After swapping the full magazine from the original rifle to the copy, she lifts Pumsy with her hands and leaves her "home" through the hideout's window, asking him for directions while sprinting to the labyrinth.
Hopefully, this day wouldn't be as bad as the last time.
Is there no sign of the third body?

That all being said, it's still exceptionally unlikely for you to get into the game, unless you're willing to wait a year or more.
((Just letting you know that I plan to post this weekend. I have sheets and personal projects to do, but this is on the list.))
Drop Pumsy. I now need to free my mouth to fight.
Change the second body to wolf-form.
Have it start howling with DwR, while attacking the familiars with both bodies.
Tooru tried to calm herself despite the situation becoming more stressful by the moment. She could practically feel her heart fluttering in her chest, and it threatened to freeze her where she stood. Have to keep moving for Taro and Papa. Have to help Pumsy too. She had to act, now, but it wasn't clear what was the right path. With how twisted the space inside labyrinths could be, she didn't know if taking her family up would help, or if she would even make it there before the archers started to move again. It could be putting them into even more danger for her to try and get them out of the current scrape.
The little girl forced herself into motion, trying not to stop and pitch a fit about how unfair the entire situation was. She looped one arm each around her father and Taro, then channeled power into her limbs; she'd seen the other girls do it, and had at least some idea of how to make herself stronger. Then, she headed downwards, trying to get her family into one of the entrances before the archers focused on her again. If the area turned out to be at least modestly safe and she had time, she'd then try to head towards Pumsy without attracting attention.
Whoops. I'll have to apologize to Pumsy later.
Continue the DwR howling for now.
Activate CC to finish things quickly, smashing the two familiars with the greatly improved capabilities of CC3.
<Anyone else here? It's Alida.>
Tooru froze in place for a moment. She backed up slowly, trying to leave her family in a place that they wouldn't suffer too much from the heat. <I-I'm here b-but the witch is looking at me. My family is with me.> Fear threatened to overwhelm her once more. If she didn't get attacked immediately, she would set them down and start moving forward and downward again, just as slowly. Once she had a certain amount of distance, she would summon a clump of talismans in preparation for whatever the witch did next.
((Does anyone have any reasons why I shouldn't just riddle her with manabolts?))
((Does anyone have any reasons why I shouldn't just riddle her with manabolts? I've been trying to think of a useful Duet, but nothing comes to mind. . .))
((Also, do we have any spectators who would like to adopt Aleksandra until RGU comes back/the labyrinth is finished? I don't like having her just chicken out and stay out of the labyrinth entirely, but I don't want to auto a PC, especially not when they're acting alone...))I can adopt Aleksandra for now, I think.
((Think you can't contact someone from outside the labyrinth because it's a pocket realm, but then there's no reason you can't try.))I read RGU's last post as that Aleksandra had already entered the labyrinth. Pumsy even said so. There were no people around in the parking lot, no sound, etc., it was pretty obvious something was wrong. And since she's in the labyrinth she should have telepathy active.
(( Is that okay? ))
Of course, unlike normal telepathy you're not choosing who listens, which means other things can hear...))(( Aleksandra wouldn't know that, though, 'cause she hasn't fought a Witch before. And there's really no other choice BUT to go in alone. ))
((When using manabolts, you should specify what level of cost you're putting into it. I presume you mean to use Cheap manabolts, which at L3 would be equivalent to a rifle round.))((Correct. L3 being what Aleksandra is up to with her rifle in hand. She doesn't have a reason yet to go higher 'cause killing everything isn't her priority. Getting past what's in her way and finding her friends is.))
((. . . I do have an idea for a duet. I'm thinking White Night Fantasy (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTW32xSn3vQ). It's about a comforting night where one can be free, which might counter the whole "imprisoned searing sunlight" thing. It also has some werewolfy lyrics that might. . . I dunno, buff Alida somehow?(( That's not a bad idea at all. [Also I like that song. XD] Just remember you'd be trying to directly counter what the witch is doing, and that's bound to pull her attention real fast. Another possibility is, since she seems all about the golden majesty & knights and such, you could mock her authority with jesters' laughs & funny bells. Maybe throw water from the channels on her armor and get laughing going about the steam coming off her. If her composure slips her magic might, too. But that's just me. ))
I do want to know if my logic makes any sense to anyone else before I commit, though.))

Wicked
And.. tasty. Is that what bones taste like? They're great.
That was a bit close, though. Maybe I should be a liiitle bit more careful this time. I might be pretty damn strong like this, but a halberd to my soulgem and I'll be just as dead.
..but Tooru needs me, so not too slow.
<Here I come, Tooru. Gonna try and get its attention.>
End the DwR howling. Use Effigy again to summon a third body. Turn the one with the soulgem into a human, along with the new third body. Mount a human body on the giant wolf and head in, with the human body wearing the soulgem hanging back. Use Totem manipulation to have the main body pull out a club, and make it much longer so it'll be suitable for mounted combat.
Then, head in, with the mounted pair advancing to the arena floor, and the main body with the soulgem hanging back at the entrance. Hand the lengthened club to the mounted pair there, like a squire to a knight, and have the pair enter the arena to take a good look at the witch. If it doesn't notice, howl loudly as a challenge.
QuoteOf course, unlike normal telepathy you're not choosing who listens, which means other things can hear...))(( Aleksandra wouldn't know that, though, 'cause she hasn't fought a Witch before. And there's really no other choice BUT to go in alone. ))
Okay, so it's not a straightforward path through to the arena. What she knows is Tooru is here somewhere, so her actions will be about that. Do the first telepathic message just as written. Leave out the second, that can wait until she actually hears from or sees Tooru/Alida so they can coordinate battle strategy. Aleksandra wants details, where enemies are, the witch's capabilities, so on -- but friends come first.
..... Can Totem Manipulation add like a flashlight to the underbarrel/side of the AK-47? It can add things like scopes, I read in the description. Do that if possible in addition to the scope, so I can see in the dark. Move towards the lit-up ramp, check behind every so often. Prioritize running if there's an encounter, shoot L3 manabolts w/ rifle to knock enemies off balance that get in my way.
EDIT: Actually, try using Teleport 1 to get past any enemies or hazards in my way until I can get outside. That's Cheap cost same as Manabolt 3. Aleksandra will just warp behind any knights and keep running. No need to waste ammo.
Get to Tooru ASAP, follow original plan if not interrupted (cover her, and if there's a fight focus enemies too close/ranged foes in that order).
((Going to try to post today. Several things at once blew up on my end last night, but hopefully things are dealt with now.))
<I'm okay for now, but I'm with the witch in the arena.> That was all she could manage to concentrate enough to send; all her spare focus was being devoted to solving the deadly puzzle before her. She had a feeling that, if she attacked now, things would descend into violence quickly, and that would go badly for everyone. For now, she would play the witch's game. Have to help these people somehow. . . The light was so blinding, it made it hard to think. If only it were night. . .
Almost unbidden, a song she'd heard once floated into her consciousness. She took a deep breath, imagining the opening bars in her head, then began to sing.
Duet with Reality (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTW32xSn3vQ) at Moderate cost in an attempt to counteract the witch's torment and imprisonment.
((I've changed my mind and am going to activate painless. A song will only help Tooru a little, and charging in will help a lot. Painless should mean surviving an arrow or two will be possible.))(( I think you misread. These are not "arrows". These are javelins thicker than Sasha's arm and taller than her whole body. One direct hit would skewer you like a pig, and we know their aim is good enough to purposefully miss so close. And maneuvering on the mud to try and dodge is bound to be impossible. I was going to suggest last turn maybe Tooru could freeze the mud over or something, but what she did anyway turned out to be best. ))
((You can always edit the action, I tend to update pretty slowly, and likely won't be improving that, this month. You can also put in as many conditionals as you like, I rarely have trouble with them. Either way, posting earlier is helpful, since it lets me start thinking about what will happen, sooner.))(( Here's something that'll inform my action. If Sasha were to make a second AK-47 with Totem Manipulation 2, would it come with the magazine also replicated? Or would I need to use Stasis to get the spare?
(Will do my best to post today. I've been distracted by lots of things, including the discovery that the person who warcrimed me was me in another game.)
warcrimed(( ..... Could you explain that statement, please, for those of us who are interested but aren't quite following? XD ))

Get the HELL up. Sasha's moving into the stands, where the spectators are, towards the upper edge of the arena. It's time to do several things at once.
The familiars, the archers, the power; it's all madness. But like war, grandfather said, there's always a method to the madness, or someone there to get something out of it at the expense of poor boys sent to die for what they didn't even know or care about. All that time thinking about her new friends, about Mina, about the glass angel and the blood and the terror—all of it made clear that Witches were just a thing. A twisted, wretched elemental of hate and selfishness that couldn't be anything else. Yet there was still a method. A button that could be pressed. And if attacking her directly isn't so wise just now...
<YOU CALL THIS 'FAIR'?!> Sasha telepathically yells directly at the Witch, glaring at the gray armor in the middle of the field for a moment. <I thought Knights were 'honorable'! A challenge to one is challenge to all, or your 'glory' is worthless! What kind of Knight needs her minders to do her job? I see you for what you are, cowardly shadow!>
Immediately following that taunt, Sasha bolts up through the stands as fast as she can, zigzagging and hopping to present a more unpredictable target for any more arrows. She's going to try and reach a midway point between the ring of snipers and the arena, moving among the stands and the people. If this somehow fails, and I wind up attacked by melee familiars, hit them with Manabolts at at least Moderate cost. Use Teleport to escape their reach if necessary.
Sasha remembers what it felt like to run her magic reverently over her grandfather's old gun, almost apologizing when she made any modification—but she knows he wouldn't blame her for going a little further if it meant saving lives. Her friends' lives. First, she needs to find out what it takes to kill these things. Shoot the first familiar that's messing with the people in the stands she meets with a Manabolt, at as good a power as I can get it without causing area damage to any nearby civilians. If that fails to cripple or kill it, keep hitting it until it works.
If mobility works this time and she gets to do her running, Sasha goes into a strafing run along the stands towards Alida's position (she's closer to her than Tooru if the witch was staring opposite of Sasha), shooting the bow-armed familiars with more Manabolts at as much power as will deal the heavy damage needed to do serious harm. If possible, aim specifically to destroy their bows or the arms they're holding them with; a disabled sniper is as useless as a dead one, and it's more economical. Sasha's goal here is to cripple or destroy as many sniper familiars as she can this turn. We NEED these guys off our backs. Avoid melee familiars entirely during this run. Teleport if it becomes necessary to avoid interception.
(I thought about using Telekinesis to rip the glaives from these guys' hands, but they look strong enough to ignore the strength of 'one adult hand's worth of force.)
(Also, Sasha's kind of wanting to see if the combat and gunshots from her rifle will shock any of these people further from the stupor they're in.)
Tooru didn't have the focus to split for delivering a coherent message, but she telepathically sent her gratitude to the other girls as well. The solution for what to do next was simple, at least: keep singing! The witch was angry, very angry, but Tooru was fast, and had apparently disrupted what she was doing. The thing looked a lot less terrifying right now, despite the increase in hostility. Still, she wasn't about to sit around and wait to see what it did; she started to move evasively, while also preparing an Outburst with an indefinitely delayed fuse to deliver to her opponent should she suddenly charge, or leave Tooru an opening.
One at a time? That's not good.. but it might not be all bad. The howling didn't help much, it just made my bodies work better together. I don't think it'd help Tooru, fighting alone over there.
I'll try singing something else. Something that'll hopefully help all of us, make us that much stronger, faster, tougher.. I don't know when it'll be my turn, so I should get it starting now.
Nah, that'll help, but only a little. I'm strong enough already, I should just be ready to charge in as soon as possible. The other knights might fire arrows at me, but I'm like super-fast.. I can dodge them.
Activate Painless to prepare for combat.
EDIT: (Syvarris, question. Did we ever learn how many of those arrows each individual archer familiar has? Any chance they'd run out of ammo?)
(Can we nominate this to hall of legends for being most zombified RTD? It was slugging on for more than 3 years now, yegads.)
((I plan on replying soon, just confirming I'm here. Blow up the witch, or wait to see what the hell is going on?))((You're clearly pissing her off specifically, Aleksandra is just trying to understand what her game is. If her attention is on you and you aren't getting shot at, it might be worth it to find out what rules she's ostensibly trying to play by, although it's not like she's tried to talk, either. Be mindful of Alida engaging in melee if you plan on blowing the witch up.))
((I just want to say, I'm a bit surprised--and flattered, I guess?--that you're all right back into the game and discussing things, pretty much at the drop of a hat.))We will always be here, demanding more PS. Screaming against the void until our hopes, too, die forever. :)
((Good games are worth being patient for. Happy to be a part of it, at least for a while. :) ))
Also, orders for now: Aleksandra checks over her recently-destroyed gun, and if it's at all salvageable/repairable with Totem Manipulation, she grabs it to do just that. If not, she'll have to make a copy. If the destroyed AK-47 still has its magazine intact, awesome; if not, that's why she has a spare in Stasis, which she'll take out and clip in to replace the assumedly destroyed one.
Focus most energy on evasion and dodging arrows, weaving and changing patterns unpredictably to confuse their aim. Run to regroup with Tooru, move down from the stands if necessary. Aleksandra is going to assist whoever needs it this round with covering fire, whether it's Alida fighting the witch, or Tooru if she (or her family) gets attacked. Moderate cost Manabolts vs. familiars, Major cost vs. the witch. Tell Alida telepathically to <Watch out!> if attacking near her so as to minimize risk of hitting her inadvertently in the melee -- we don't want a repeat of last labyrinth.
EDIT: .......................((I just got a freaking insane idea. Would it be remotely possible to stuff Tooru's outburst bomb paper into the gun and fire it like a rifle grenade? Does it not explode until Tooru tells it to no matter what? Because I could see using the force of a bullet or a tiny manabolt to launch that bomb all the way to the platform.))
((Two comments. One, firing manabolts doesn't use bullets from the mag, and firing bullets doesn't use magic. There's no point in loading or recovering the mag if you're only going to fire manabolts.((I thought it was established quite early on that ranged attacks with guns cost ammo. Firing a manabolt from the gun was essentially firing a bullet that was charged with mana, was how I was thinking of it. But okay. And I'll adjust my action in a bit.))
Mobility 3: jump on thin air
((Also, I've actually changed my mind about that witch spell. I now think it's an inverted version of Beacon of Hope. The results look cool and more powerful than I was expecting.))(( Wouldn't that make her a Bravery witch, then? As in, close combat, hard to kill or even disable? Although the other witches "multi-classed", too. ))
