Title: Six Souls. Turn 1 UP!
Post by: Nilocy on November 28, 2008, 08:52:11 am
Right, I just thought I'd throw this one out here.

Basic story: Everyone in the world is dead. No-one knows why, or how, but all of your friends, family and distant relations have died. You 6 players are the only people you know in the world to have survived this. Its not a zombie outbreak, because no-one came back from the dead. Its not an invasion by aliens, because nothing was destroyed. You 6 have to make it in the world, restart, make a new society, grow, become what you always wanted to be!
You think your the only ones alive, but who knows, there might be others?

Setting: Edinburgh; 2009 1st January. The disaster did happen on New years day. Which does mean there'll be alot of dead people on the streets.
Characters: Anything you want them to be. Preferably something realistic, Edinburgh has a high population of Students/old people/Polish immigrants/and Scottish people (well duh). I'm looking for 6 people, first come first serve.
Rules: There arn't any specific rules, just general don't throw abuse at people irl. RP will make life here easier for you. and stuff.

So I'll have to work it out, but you'll probably start in the center of town all meeting for the first time. I'll post a small map of the center of Edinburgh via google maps and you can take a look see.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
If you want the larger (clearer map) then just say and I'll send it to you.

People interested:
1. Rooster - Kate
2. deadlycairn - Simon
3. Aqizzar - Rachelette
4. sonerohi - Millar
5. Pengiun - That prossie lady Candy
6. chaoticjosh - Fernando

===Update Section===
Ok, I did note that the map was of bad quality when I uploaded. So I'm gonna post up the bigger version with numbers :D Sorry about that Aqizzar. And no, the animals didn't die. Just humans (I'll go fix that :D) I'll put up a link to the download.
=================
Oh yes, I'll need you to give a quick character description, like about 100 words or something, who they are, where they're from, what they're doing in Edinburgh, any special talents (just make it like... one for just now, you can learn some more later).

The general jist of the rules goes along the lines of if you have a talent you'll do it better, if not then you wont. You don't have any major difficulties with anything survival related (you've watched Ray Myres etc.) You know how to start a campfire and stuff.

The turns meanwhile shall be played out on a week by week style, if anything major happens (and it will) then I'll tell you lot and we'll do it on a day by day basis. You get one action for each day, this is what you'll be spending the most time on in that one day (be it finding food, building shelter, planting some crops.) When the major events happen you'll have 24 action points to spend to figure the event out and stuff. It will act like one day action point over all. But you'll get to specify what you do better. Note: If you want to suggest a better way of doing these turns then please tell me :D

Intro
31/12/08 Hogmanay (Hog-man-nay Scottish New Years).
23:30. People are out celebrating what is the countries biggest New years party. People are everywhere on the streets, drinking, laughing having a wonderful time as they forget what was a quite terrible year for the world. The clocks ticking down to the biggest use of fireworks seen yet at Edinburgh Castle.
23:55. People gather everywhere for their own view of the castle, the fireworks start. The concert in Princes Street gardens is coming to its climax in unison with the Castles display. People are getting anxious, waiting for the final rockets to explode in their wonderful reds, yellows, greens and blues.
0:00 January 1st 2009. Suddenly five hundred thousand people drop dead onto the floors as the colours in the air begin to fade. In an instant what was one of the most celebrated times in the year became the quietest. No-one was around, not a single voice except for the harsh winds picking up from the north.
0:05. 6 Sole people find themselves the only people left standing in Princes Street. There are no tears shed among them, they just stare at each other wondering what had happened. A faint thud is heard towards the east.

Ok, thats the intro. You guys were all celebrating new years in the center of town, just north of the castle on that long street. Its up to you what you guys want to do now.

I might actually play this game cause I'm polish (duh!)

Character:
Nicholas(Mikołaj) Madej

a man very talented in languages. Had big interest in survival in the wilderness before "this" happened. age 20. Long brown hair. wears black clothing (black shirt, jeans, boots).

So yeah - my talent be "Linguistic genius" I can read in many languages , and since there is 6 people left we can communicate with english but I hope to find some scientific books or something like that, and it will be probable that I will be the only one to read them. Oh and I'm in Edinburgh because I emigrated there to search for a better job ( But it has no meaning right now  ::) )

I'm interested, so count me in. I'll give character info after a hour or two.

edit: or three or four :P... I'm a little busy right now.

You DO realize that we need someone to play women?
Title: Re: Hmm, a game I came up with while falling asleep this morning.
Post by: Vlynndar on November 28, 2008, 12:05:17 pm
This might be interesting. 'Specially as I've never done any roleplaying before (excluding rtd...), but can't hurt to try. Atleast I'm certain it will be fun. Dwarven fun, at least.

Am not a woman, though.

It will be a bit awkward restarting the word if you were all men.... I guess you could devise a way to make babies in test tubes... but erm... that might take a while :D
Title: Re: Hmm, a game I came up with while falling asleep this morning.
Post by: Servant Corps on November 28, 2008, 12:35:57 pm
Can't even restart it via testtubes, Nilocy. You need a woman to implant the fetus.

You could try causing male pregenacy...but I wonder if it is more productive to use the last moments of your life to find out what caused the mass extiniction.

SO this is like "I am legend"? then i want to be Will Smith.

Will Smith
Race: Black
Occupation: fresh prince/man in black/cowboy
hometown: Bel-air
description: Popular american actor travels to Edinburgh for a vacation. The next day however, everyone in the world disappears. What will he do?

You could solve this problem by having migrants arrive. They could be migrants from underground, moving to the surface world after humanity goes extinct.
Title: Re: New World
Post by: Nilocy on November 28, 2008, 01:37:03 pm
Nope, its definately not like I am Legend. Cause that was a terrible film. And I don't think ill allow you to be Will Smith, I want this to be a quite serious RP. Will smith... well he's just not real :D

Name: Simon
Occupation: Student
Age: 17
Talent: Outdoorsy
Description: Average height, lean, brown hair, longish scar on one arm from a camping accident a few years ago.

What the hell, why not join another forum game.  At the rate they move I'll have plenty of time between each.

Name: Omar
Occupation: Bodyguard
Age: 36
Talent: Martial Artist
Description: Tall and broad Arab man, brown skinned, slicked black hair and a foot of beard.
Bio: Omar has traveled the length and breadth of the world as a professional open-class fighting champion.  His fame at beating people up earned him a offer from a Dubai oil sheik to stand around looking tough at press events.  The sheik vanished along with everyone else, and now Omar is left standing around Edinburgh with no one to impress.  Glory hog that he is, he's rather miffed.

If we could get at least ONE woman...

tell you what:
If there won't be any women I'll start as one for sense's sake!
Title: Re: New World

Come to think of it, if no else does, I'll play a woman too.  Not gonna let this be like the Westside zombie escape.

Hell, I'll just do it anyway.  Omar can stay on the backburner for now.  Gimme a minute to think of another character.

One thing. Are the people dead or gone? I mean, is the world coated in a tapestry of dead people about to rot or is it slightly less... repulsive?

Also, if I had to drop out of this, can I easily?

People really really do have issues with playing women dont they?

I'm afriad i won't let anyone else in until i get at least 1 women character.

Edit: @ Vlynndar. Nah, they're all dead... everywhere :D Although it did happen on New years day if you'd care to check the setting. Which does mean there'll be alot of dead people on the streets.

naw, don't feel ashamed, just feel ashamed that their aren't more female nerds in the world.

or atleast, more female nerds that frequent these boards.

This is going to have such amazing, awkward, incestuous implications in rebuilding society with one or two women and 4 men.
Title: Re: Six Souls (Name change from New World)
Post by: Nilocy on November 28, 2008, 05:41:24 pm
Right, i guess that counts as a female Penguin. In you go. I'll also put chaotic in as he did want in first.

Right, thats everyone in. Now I'll just wait for Aqizzar to make his character (the female one) And then first turns!
Ingame date: 1/12/09 (Turn 0)
Basically, just explain (RP wise, what you'll do with your day (I'm counting today as a major event... because everyone in the world has died except you 6) The time is 00:06. You have 24 hour points to spend. remember, your gonna have to sleep aswell, and eat.
Title: Re: Six Souls (Name change from New World)
Post by: sonerohi on November 28, 2008, 06:05:39 pm
well, following the new rules.

He'll search his neighbors for 2 hours, desperately looking for photo albums and some type of a clue as to why everyone died. If he finds a photo album of some sort, he'll go around I.D.-ing bodies for an hour, and use four hours to bury as many as he can in that time frame with materials on hand. Then he'll go back to his own home and eat whatever's around, and search his house for something small to mess around with, to keep his hands busy while he thinks up survival strategies.

Post by: Nilocy on November 28, 2008, 06:20:09 pm
Ok, sonerohi. I should have made this clearer, could you post your 24 actions in segments and RP them out? then i'll sort all the dirty business of telling you what happens ok?
Title: Re: Six Souls (Name change from New World)

But Nilocy, how can he account for what will happen when he's doing stuff? Like, he's not going to keep raiding supermarkets or whatever if he breaks his foot.

Damn, sorry about the three hour delay.  Think, think, think...  Female character...  Don't want this to be idiotic or insulting...  Alright.

Name: Rachelette
Occupation: Advertising Agent
Age: 27
Talent: Psychology
Description: Small, gaunt brunette with thick spectacles and dowdy clothes
Bio: (Can't think of one in particular, it'll evolve I guess.  She's a quiet, threatening woman who made a career tinkering with minds.)

Ok, sorry right, for the turns, tell me what you want to do in the 24 hour period. Attempt to add some RP to it, the better the RP the better your chances of doing it. You'll fail if your trying something that you can't physically or mentally do etc. etc. so add some realism please. Just set today out in a nice order. For example - 1 Hour getting contact details from your new 'buddies', 2 hours going home, 1 hour getting your stuff together, or what ever! Remember, you'll prolly have phone/internet access for the first few days before problems start happening with power/servers etc!!! Just come up with something. And remember kids, you gotta eat/drink and sleep.

Nilocy, your map doesn't have any numbers on it.  The key is useless!

And we're all just left standing next to each other?  With thousands of corpses laying around?

What do you expect our first actions to be, running around screaming?  Hysterically arguing amongst ourselves?

That would make sense.

I spend four hours salvaging the nearest supermarket for food. And 6 hours in the nearest internet cafe, just serfing the internet for... well, something about the situation. After that I return to the supermarket, and this time I spend another four hours to search for a decent laptop (maybe even assemble it from parts of other laptops) and a backpack. After that I eat and sleep (at my home) for 10 hours total.

I guess I could've think of something better but I'm to sleepy now.

remember guys, don't just post your actions, ya gotta roleplay! name o' the game guys. I'm sure some efficient method of communicating amongst ourselve in this fashion is feasible. perhaps really slow days that are only taken a few hours at a time? Nilocy, remember, your the Dungeon Master, so you have to make the settting and direct everybody in some way.

i'm in-character... NOW

first 7 hours of day spent sleeping

8:00: I must say, today feels like a great day! My great dream is halfway completed starting today, I jump out of bed and... the senorita that had enjoyed the night with me lies motionless on the balcony! I rush to her side and beckon her to awaken, i shake her shoulders and gently slap her tender face, but their is no reaction. I check her pulse only to conclude that their is no life in this woman! This is a travesty! What had stolen her life away in the night? I must beseech help from the local authorities! I rush from my hotel room and down the staircase, only to see the Bellboy collapsed on the stairs. investigating, i find that this young senor has passed on also. I gallop to the first floor! The front desk is unoccupied, and so I search behind it for the service phone. I call the authorities, but their is no answer! what on Earth is going on! I go outside, and many men and women are lying about on the street! What calamity has transpired!? I investigate the many unmoving senors and senoritas, I poke and prod and yell, but it would appear that, despite that there is not a scratch upon any of them, no one is alive to inform me of what has occurred!

9:00 AM - 10:00: I spend two hours prowling the streets, looking for anyone other than myself that had survived. The sight of the many dead fills me with incredible terror and unease, but something simply must be done! I walk because even though my imported cadillac sts is my pride and joy, the streets are far too jammed with the bodies of the unfortunate, or other various accidents, and it is simply untraversable with a vehicle. I search in all the surrounding areas, but i only find more of the same. I am quite mortified and upset.

11:00 AM: hunger strikes me in my search despite my frame being consumed by fear and disgust in my search. I break into and search a local Bistro, and find that electricity has not ceased functioning, and so i've managed to salvage some fresh meats and breads. The bistro being closed from the outside, i manage a meal in a half-decent setting. Eating the foods did take some time though, a whole hour in fact, as i am still quite revulsed by the situation.

12:00-5:00 PM: Seeing the bodies of the unfortunate ones lie about on the street is far too depressing. I head back to my hotel room to rest my head and weep. I weep for the longest time.

6:00 PM - 10:00 PM: I carry my senorita and the bellboy outside and lay them side by side on the sidewalk. I then spend the next 4 hours carrying all the dead senors and senoritas and laying them side by side on the sidewalk in the same fashion. This is exhausting work, both physically and emotionally, but even with all my work, the road is only partially cleared, and is still not passable for any vehicle. at 10 o' clock, i retired to my room for the rest of the night. I believe there are some fields nearby, if i can get my hands on a shovel, i may be able to lay some of the unfortunate ones to rest in a proper fashion.

Great! Now I have to change my character to make it more usefull because of a "great" spaniash man with talents "linguistic" (I already have that) and affection with women while there are going to be three (yes my char will be a woman)

Name: Kate (Katarzyna) Madej
Sex: F
age: 19
Talent:She is on a first year of medical studies so, yeah - doctor
Story: She came to Edinburgh to study medicine. And now she is alone. She hopes to figure out what happened to the rest of the people. Now she has found 5 humans alive in the middle of Edinburgh. God! what a luck!

6Am She has no remorse so she breaks into the nearest mall, and gathers all needed stuff there (She will take orders for particular stuff so ,yeah - fell free
to do that) Using the rest of the time for breakfast
12 - noon Using found stuff she prepares a bed for herself. If others will want that She can prepare 6 beds.Using rest of the time for lunch

3PM - 10PM -  She will use that time to talk to the rest, and gather everything they know (if at all). Preparing 3rd meal for whole group, and then sleep

I can roleplay, but I don't want to right now. Maybe in second turn

[OOC: Candy is going to be the most offensive, stereotypical woman I can think of.]

I'm struck with fear by the situation, and I follow one of the men around, practically clinging to him as I cry my eyes out. He pushes me away, as women are not on his mind right now. So I go to a store, rummaging around for anything interesting, occasionally falling to my knees and crying about what's happening.

Okay, this got a little melancholy and paranoid.  That's in character.  I'm developing an idea of Rachelette as a bitter introvert – she's not a survivalist, but she is misanthropic enough that being the last person on earth hasn't driven her crazy.

Also, should we converse in the thread or something?  Trying to account for five other personalities over the course of a day in such a situation is going to be difficult, especially this first day's worth of meetings.  I assumed that I hysterically ran out of the square at midnight before anyone else noticed me, so I'll be meeting everyone next, if anyone else is still hanging around (Area 1 right?)

Speaking of which, I don't mean to nitpick Nilocy, but those numbers are really hard to read.  Bigger and brighter would help, but it's not too important.

Midnight to 6:00AM – I was in the middle of a New Years party my vapid work-friends dragged me to, trying to drink enough to avoid conversation without getting too drunk to stay alert and present.  You can only feign conversation with partyers so long before you need some alcohol yourself, but I'm certainly not doing anything I could regret.  Then the clock strikes the Year, and the whole damn city drops dead right around me.  I spend the next several hours doing what any reasonably sane would do – running pointlessly and standing around in total shock.  After a while it turns to a dazed strolling, and I poke corpses with sticks to see if they're really there and dead.  I would call someone, but I don't know anyone I like or trust enough to call even for an end-of-world-check.

6:00 AM to 6:00 PM – As dawn breaks, the magnitude of the situation sinks in, and I realize what incredible danger the world is in, especially it's most important resource, knowledge.  I may be the last person left alive, but whether I am or not, there is no more important task now than saving any vital information I can.  I rush back to my apartment, taking the first working car I find (the owner obviously won't be complaining).  Every computer I own is engaged in downloading every important file I can think of – medical data, classic movies and books, the lasted news from before whatever happened.  It occurs to me to try contacting anyone, but every news site and forum is as dead as the streets.  I try to basically grab anything of tangential importance before the power goes out, in between cold, terrifying shivers.

6:00PM to late – Seeing the sun go down, I'm reminded of just how stark the world is with everyone dead, and the pettiness of what I've been doing.  Not pointless, all knowledge is worth saving, but it's not like anyone's around to stop me from just taking books anymore.  How much worth saving is on the Internet anyway?  I head out into the town to just get a good look at everything.  A long look.  It seems trite to worry about food in light of all the end of humanity strew around me, but I'm not in a hurry to join them.  Again realizing there's no one to stop me, I grab a bite at the cafe I used to tolerate.

late to End of the Turn – At some point I happen to make my way back through the original area, and probably notice that there's other people alive.  After stepping over dead people all day, it's pretty disconcerting.  I hang back at a distance and watch the people for a while, paranoid that they might somehow be responsible, or just dangerous opportunists.  I didn't survive the end of the world to be grabbed by barbarians now.

Sorry guys, I don't have access to a computer on a sunday.

Turn 1:
Simon woke up on the first day of the new year to a surprisingly quiet day. He assumed his parents were just sleeping in, so he decided to go for a bit of a walk. Trust his parents to take him camping in the meadows on New Year's Eve.

It was nearly noon by the time Simon got suspicious (and hungry), so he headed back to camp, where he found the corpses of his parents. Shocked, his first instinct was to run and run, but everywhere he turned there were yet more dead people. Finally he turned into the city centre, and look, there were other survivors! However, the mental shock to Simon was great, and his strongest urge was to go bush, away from all the death.
Maybe he could convince these people to come with him...

this game is going to die obviously...
what a shame
If a game cannot update fast enough to be always on top of Forum games and Roleplaying then it isn't going to live long...  :-\

It won't die. I promise you that! Its just I was out celebrating St andrews day last night and i start a new job today. I've already written up half of the turns, and that only took me about 30 minutes. I'll finish them today, check them tonight and post them up then. I'm only writing really big things because its a major event. They get special attention.

Edit: I'll also make a clearer version of the map if you want. Penguins and sonerohi turns are the only ones to write up. They may take a while because they really didn't put much in :D No problem, thats the GM's duty to fix!

Turn 1.

Choatic Josh’s turn:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Roosters Turn.

Aqizzars Turn.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

deadlycairns Turns.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Penguins Turn.

Sonerohi’s Turn.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Ok, that’s the major events done. I'd like some more back-story next turn ok? For now, your basically stuck in the hotel with an adequate amount of supplies left. You start talking about what to do next. So please, ICC times! Then I’d like a turn for the next day, its still a major event as you just lost everyone in the last day. Remember kids, best not to read each others turns for the sake of RP. Talk to each other and explain what you found out.

OOC: My ICC will be in italics.

"I think we should get out of here. As far as I know, this sort of thing has never happenned before. I mean, if it had, we would know about it right? So we have to assume whatever it is, its not natural. We should go bush, get away from here, but stay close enough so we can watch the city nd see if anything weird happens, and maybe look for other survivors in the day. We got enough food here to last us outdoors a fair while, and we could always get more. I mean, it's not like anyone else will want it, right?"
Simon begins to sob/laugh hysterically

I'll write something when I get back from work, but first- Nilocy, shouldn't the RP results use character names?

They should, but not everyone knows each other's character names yet... I'm afraid I don't, so thats why i used your forum names :D

I introduce myself to all
-Hello everyone! I'm Kate. Do you know what happened?
I talk to everyone about the thing that happened. And then a bad idea stucks my head. I suggest that we should get rid of the corpses before they start to rot. rotting flesh may cause serious illnesess. If nobody helps me I'll do it myself.

That be the whole turn

" I can't handle this crap... I... I need to just get out and get some sleep, so I'm taking a walk and a nap, and you guys can come get me when you need me. Since Kate seems to be the only one that doesn't require just leaving the city and spying on it. It's dead, not the enemy".

"Hey, guys! I'm Candy. I, like, think we should start to, like, repopulate and stuff. I definitely don't want to touch any icky bodies."

I try to seduce any living male. After that, I think I'll try to go to a store and find something pretty to wear. Maybe a jewelry store, so I can get some of those diamonds that I was never able to afford before. I also take jewelry off any dead bodies I find and wear it, but not hauling any of the bodies because that's gross and the men should do it.
