Title: [Plugin]Dwarven Deities V.4
Post by: Godlysockpuppet on June 07, 2013, 09:25:38 am
After reading through Deon's Genesis mod, somebody noticed that a creature their dwarves started to worship migrated to their fort. So I decided to write up a creature, and if you add the creature and are insanely lucky you may get a super-awesomeness powered god arrive at your fort!
So far I only have one, but if there is some demand I may write more.

- The ancient construct. (http://i1169.photobucket.com/albums/r508/chrsiy/construction_zps3ca5547c.png)(http://i1169.photobucket.com/albums/r508/chrsiy/deities32x32_zpsc94ef370.png)

Cyborg (I'm allowed go over the top! Just try and stop me! >:( ) (http://Ancient construct)(http://i1169.photobucket.com/albums/r508/chrsiy/deities2_zps579fb58b.png)
Not too bothered to describe this guy. I tested him against almost everything int he arena, the only thing he gets beaten by consecutively is Meph's mountain King. So Yeah... If one shows up use a mountain king. Candy bounces off this guy.

Changelog
Code: [Select]
V.2
- Ancient construct now has a graphic file, so the graphic works.
- Few tiny bugfixes within the Ancient construct. One question; are frequency and numbers important for a megabeast? I doubt it, but correct me if I'm wrong.
V.3
-Included the new graphic, even though there's no creature for it yet.
-Ancient Construct has a new battlecry file along with a few new natural attacks.
-Ancient Construct has a 32x32 image too now!
V.4
-Fixes and duplications in the construct file
-Added a futuristic cyborg. Unbelievably overpowered... So don't mess with him Best to insta-kill him with a cave in or use a mountain king.

Download (http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=7760)(aboleth! - new!)

Enjoy ;D

This could be potentially interesting. Perhaps the creatures only come if enough dwarves adore them?
Also, it shouldnt be the creature itself, but rather an avatar/servant.

Having a deity avatar in your fortress would increase migrants.

Having a deity avatar in your fortress would increase migrants.
Also as a deity they often replace your monarch, so you need literally your entire civilization to adore them and an extremely wealthy fortress for them to arrive!
It doesn't work that way with DF modding. it's a deity or nothing :)
Currently it's just a megabeast (that doesn't attack) that is capable of being worshipped as a deity. It is not possible to create a creature that exists only as a deity that sends out minions or avatars

I would personally make the graphic bigger. You can make it any arbitrary square size regardless of the size of the tileset. Make it seem a bit more godlike by being... well, different.

Won't it just look odd? Now that you mention it I've a 32x32 version of him too. But... Isn't that too big? I mean he'd just look plain weird... I'll upload both so you get a choice. This is more for mephs attention than anything else.
I've also started work on a second creature now too ;D I'll upload my sprite of it later.
Off topic, I also have a masterwork version that has fixed creature sizes to comply with the newly discovered bug. EVERY creature has been resized. Should I upload it?

This is the point! Divinity is odd.

Here's a 64x64 thing I did for Fortbent; it's awfully abstract, but it's an example:

(before you even think about mentioning my non-existent drawing skills, I copied these from the wiki then cropped and resized)

The sprites looks awesome!

Suggestions: octopus-headed man, green giant Hulk, dark matter in a stylish hat, rhinoceros beetle with claws.

Thanks :)
But it's a god for dwarves. It kinda needs to fit into the theme of fortresses, gems, metals mineral and wealth. I doubt they'd worship an octopus man :P

Cool, I like the Idea. Isn't there an offering system in masterworks? I think it would be really cool if you would have to offer certain goods in order not to anger the god. At last he is a god, so he should have some demands, or some place of worship.

Maybe I think a bit to big ^^. I think I could directly provide you with a whole lot of Ideas.

Sure. We could make it so that you've to run a reaction which transforms a dwarf (as an offering) which will kill the dwarf, and before he dies he runs an interaction to make the god immune (temporarily) to an interaction he runs yearly that drives him crazed for a month? :) That'd be cool. To run the reaction initially you'd need appropriate goods!

Which bug? There is a bodysize related bug in the mod?

Btw, If you had looked at the changelog I posted for the next release, you would have noticed that I added this mechanic to every megabeast. Any megabeast can become an object of worship, and appear as friendly or hostile deity in the next release.

So yeah, I did notice and like the feature as well ;) Glad to see that you did some work on it as well... most of these megabeasts will appear as hostile, normal megabeasts btw, it is not that every of these beasts is always a deity.

You also mentioned to me that you were working on the speech files for the battlecries... any update in that regard? I could add it to the next release, to fix the typos at least. ;)

There's a universal body-size related bug: creatures don't grow bigger as they age.

Ok, is noted.

Does it really make sense to fix it on the raw level with max-bodysize for all babies/children? Has toady said anything about a fix for it?

Well according to the thread I found it on, Toady is unlikely to fix it till the next release. Also, this is the only way to fix it, or you could use a transform syndrome, which also fixes it.

Put your cyborg into Fortbent and put him up against Lord English ("Cherubic Lord of Time"). Then we'll see who's overpowered >:D

I did actually! Haha one thing about lord english; You can bleed him out. I made a creature that used a rotting bleeding coma inducing syndrome. I didn't wait around to see him die though :P

That won't work either, nor will beheading. Cave-ins and atom smashing are the only way.

Also, he has a nasty surprise.

So, does that mean that pitting two against each other causes them to both instantly vanish from existence, or stand there chuckling at each other while the universe slowly fades away around them?
