*tumbleweed*

...actually, tumbleweeds in DF would be pretty awesome. Let's see, they appear in desert/badlands biomes, use the masterwork symbol or the dwarfbuck symbol and can be used to see if a map has wind (ie they'd be blown in a direction or just stay still and get munched on by cattle).
Until then fly up into a corner of your wall and get stuck... followed by another... and another... all trying to pathfind... and soon you've got a problem worse than cats.

Once they get stuck they could cease to pathfind and after burning is allowed in Fort Mode you could get rid of them easily enough... or you could weaponize them and fling them at goblins. Tumbleweeds could also grow in your forts area and if you get to them before they die, you should be able to brew them. Tumblewhiskey for everyone!
Weaponize them... heh...

Urist McPanic: Sir!  There's a horde of goblins coming for the gates!
Urist McCrazy: Release....... the tumbleweeds!
[Lever pulled, 20 tumbleweeds tumble towards the goblins, who run from the tumbleweeds as big as they are, screaming.]
Urist McCrazy: You DID remember to put pieces of jagged metal in the tumbleweeds, right?
Urist McPanic: Yes sir.  Always.
[Cue gruesome violence]

That's why I said metal SHARDS, not full-on axe blades.  Think like barbed wire, but with the wire replaced by the tumbleweeds, and sent to spin.
Besides, we're dwarves.  We're just that awesome.

I was thinking more along the lines of flinging burning tumbleweeds on the goblins. But right now there isn't a reliable way of setting something on fire... well there is... but if you can use that you don't need to weaponize tumbleweeds.

In Dwarf Fortress, there's no such thing as overkill when the results are worthy of alcoholically induced, brawl-inducing, beautiful, iconic, glorious and divine songs, sung by hearty and grunting dwarves upon thousands of desecrated, mutilated, strewn, torn, burnt, melted, obsidianized, elfblood-drenched and cat-conquered goblin corpses from that overkill.

So we want tumbleweed covered in metal shards, soaked in napalm and filled with recurive tumbleweeds? Sounds cool to me.

Seriously, we need to shorten waiting times. With the current rule of 'take as long as you wish' we'll never get anywhere...

Is it still possible to join this succession game?
But IDK if it'll work, since I have the Linux version of DF. Does anyone know if the saves would be able to be transferred?

Should I take my turn now? I have plenty of time, but don't expect any big updates unless something interesting happens. I.e., don't expect me to rattle on about the farms and shit.

You see, here's how I think this works:
Overseer: Welcome to the military! You need to wear socks! Dorf: Oh, I should get military socks. My socks are civilian socks. Dorf discards socks Dorf: You know, I need a whole lot of gear now. I should get socks... last. Oh, but these steel boots with the white goo on them are nice!
