I have a pesky forgotten beast who spews dust. Killed my entire legendary squad by sneezing them into a wall. I'm quite unhappy about them as I foolishly became attached to my squad. Now it's time for revenge.
Here is my plan:
Dig out a large room. Place my new squad in the middle. Hopefully the fight will stay mostly in the middle of the room thus no dorfs will be sent into a wall.
Multiple waterfalls to generate mist and keep the dust down.
Does that work? Will the dorfs being wet stop them from being suffocated by the dust?

So he blasts cave-in dust? Wow! Imo you should weaponize him.
If you do manage to kill him make sure to immediately say "that was for my squad!"
-
Ha no, he breathes dust, which acts like a cave in.
A towering feathered earthworm. It has a square shell and it is slavering. Its slate gray feathers are downy. Beware its deadly dust!
FBs with dust and poison gas always manage to kill my fortresses one way or another...
-
Weaponize it.
-
It needs to die. My fallen squad must be avenged.
-
I would carve some fortifications in the caverns facing where the beast is from a few z-levels up, and riddle him with bolts. It's the only way to be sure.
-
The only way to be sure is to drown it in magma
-
Trap him in a pitfall in front of your base! Goblins get dropped in and have try to kill this thing, and weather or not it wins or loses you get your vengeance because either the goblins kill it or it wins and is trapped for another year, bored. Humiliated. The pet of something one thousandth of its size.

Water stops dust.
As it is a succession game, my girlfriend decided to drown it. She constructed a system and a small pit to trap it in. Sadly, it became spring time and thus it was my turn. I lured it into the pit and flooded it. For some reason it got out of the pit and was hanging out near the wall closest to my mining area.
I sent my new squad, which was all legendary hammer dwarves. Except for the captain who refused to train and had literally had 0xp in anything.
I moved the military near the wall, deconstructed it, and a torrent of water, along with the beast came out. The military rushed it, and the fight was over quickly. Reading from the logs only the FB was enveloped by its (freezing) dust and it never touched any of my military.
The dust that is. The captain got his head bit in half by the beast. He died.

I'm pretty sure all FB's can breathe underwater.
Like every single one I've seen has been able to go one or even two levels below water if they could, even the ones that can fly.
So drowning traps probably wouldn't have worked anyway.
Unless you had a surface-connected drowning pit and water froze during the winter or something.
-
Then we'll finally weaponize weather.

Icemachines used... an ice machine... to freeze invaders. It's rather cool.
