Other Games / Worlds Adrift: MMO PVP Persistent Islands & Airships
« on: May 25, 2018, 02:06:50 pm »
Worlds Adrift is a stunning game in development by the same devs who brought us Surgeon Simulator and I am Toast.

WA is a sandbox MMO in which you design and fly airships through the sky. Apart from your skyship, the only other thing in the sky are other ships and floating islands with resources. Long term goals of the game (so far) appear to be exploration and PVP.

Creatures in the game fly around in the sky but are actually simulated populations which, if they die out, disappear. They need to eat, rest, etc etc or else they die. They also migrate from island to island.

Despite being only on version .2.0.3 (in beta), there is already a surprising amount to do in the game and I run into other players on a frequent basis.

The devs as well are super in touch with their community (a must for me) and even have a built in feedback system (accessed with F2) that you can use to write notes to them about whats good and bad in the game on the fly (pun intended).

It's really such a great game with absurd potential, please check it out and at the very least, watch their gameplay trailer :)

General Discussion / Can't change avatar?
« on: March 13, 2018, 10:00:11 pm »
Trying to change my avatar on the boards but I can't :(

Worse still it's left me without my old one. Is the image too big? Are there specific dimensions an avatar must have?

Other Games / Rival Regions- A Geopolitical "MMO" Simulator
« on: December 29, 2017, 06:27:07 pm »
http://rivalregions.com/#overview

Rival Regions is a MMO style Geopolitical simulator. You play the role of a citizen of a country and can do multiple different things such as work to obtain money, join a political party, travel to a country to support a coup or revolution, become a journalist and cover the different happenings within the governments and different countries, etc etc. The game itself is slow paced, everything takes place in real time, so it runs like a game where you want to pop in a few times a day, check on things, use up any available energy and then come back later. That said I think the game has a lot of potential, it's been around since 2013 and is still going with about 40,000 different players.

I recently just traveled to the South and East of Ireland in game, where they only just obtained independence from the Turkish players who had taken over the country and are working to establish themselves as an independent state.

Apart from typical regions of Earth, you can travel to Antarctica and create a state there, or even travel to the moon. The game is really free form but unusually rich in diversity of what you can do.

Other Games / An evolution game(can't remember the name)
« on: December 18, 2017, 09:55:32 pm »
If anyone knows the name (i believe it was posted here, where i found it) of an evolution game, its similar in design to Spore but had slow development, most of its development came from small contributors on Github, I can't quite remember the name but I was interested to follow its progress

DF Gameplay Questions / Putting seeds into minecarts
« on: December 03, 2017, 08:16:27 pm »
I have a very, very multi level fort with the farms very far up near the surface, but my kitchens(and dining room) at least 10-12 z levels below that. Manually transporting plump helmets is extremely inefficient, so I've set up a 4 stop Minecart route that dumps plump helmets at the kitchen, picks up their seeds, goes back up to the farms, deposits seeds, picks up plump helmets, etc..

The issue is that nobody wants to fill the minecarts with seeds (of any kind). I've already previously used minecarts on this fort with quantum stockpiling my rocks, so I think I have a handle on actually designating routes, but I can't figure out why nobody wants to fill the minecart. Any suggestions?

General Discussion / Will Scotland vote for independence after Brexit?
« on: January 23, 2017, 09:37:28 am »
I know this is slightly old news. Brexit, that is, but it's coming back up in the media I feel.

Just recently I read an article about Theresa May confirming the intent of Brexit, not officially invoking article 50 but that she confirmed it would be happening relatively soon (likely the first quarter of 2017 according to the Wikipedia Article.

So my question is, what are your thoughts on the (proposed) second Scottish referendum?

At the time of Brexit, Northern Ireland and voted to remain by a decent margin (55.8 to 44.2), and in Scotland, a massive margin (Referendum Data) of 62% to 38%. According the data I linked, not a single county in Scotland voted to leave and obviously, a large majority didn't either.

The first Scottish independence referendum had "remain" win by a margin of roughly 10%, 55.3% to 44.7%. A second Scottish independence referendum has been proposed more than a few times (even before Brexit, immediately after the failure of the first) so I wonder, how will the results change the second time around (should it happen)?

My thoughts are that should the referendum get pushed after the invocation of Article 50 and as the deadline to leave the EU approaches, Scotland will be highly likely to vote to leave by some margin, I can't say for how wide of a margin however. I think though, that if the referendum comes post-Brexit, then the referendum still has a fair chance of winning but much lower than the previous scenario (people's fears over Brexit possibly assuaged in the wake of leaving).

I'm generally curious as to what you guys think. (I'm kind of partial to Irish unity and Scottish nationalism but I'm try to be unbiased here). Thoughts?

EDIT:
I would also like to point out the raw numbers of the first Scottish referendum, even though it was roughly 10% that voted to remain vs. leave the UK, the numbers necessary to leave amounted to 1.8 million, the number who voted the leave was 1.61 million. Whereas with the EU referendum, the numbers to remain were about 1.6 million to 1.0 million. That said, the turnout for the UK referendum was about 85% vs the turnout for the EU referendum at about 67%.

Other Games / Thrive: Like Spore, but better!
« on: September 23, 2016, 08:20:36 pm »
http://revolutionarygamesstudio.com/

Hey guys! Been a while since I've been around :P College and moving in and stuff

This is a new game I just found called Thrive. It is, at it's most base, like Spore, but much more ambitious/scientifically accurate/better. Unfortunately it's still very much in development, with only the first stage being even partially complete currently. However, the entire project is open source. They're trying to get more attention now, not only to get more people aware of it but to get more people working on it.

Even if you're not interested in working on the project (programming, models, graphics, etc) it's still worth checking out! Maybe favoriting and coming back to it when it's a tad more developed :P but it's really cool, give it a look! :)

It seems to me that any time I am online and get into an argument (or am reading one) in which the people arguing are severely polarized into two sides of an argument, then many times it eventually falls into insults and finally offrails into people personally attacking each other and their views or beliefs.

Do you have an opinion? Does the Internet discourage people having intellectual debate and actually coming to conclusive answers? Do you have any experiences or evidence to back up your claim?

General Discussion / Seomra Comhrá do Gaeilge (Irish Chatroom)
« on: December 07, 2015, 04:45:55 pm »
Dia dhuit cairde! :)

Using Discord I've created an online chatroom for people to talk in Irish and practice. You can ask questions in English (though please use parenthesis for English like this) if you need to. Please join if you have any interest! Currently I have 12 people altogether including myself but it's always quiet. If you do join and nobody is talking, hang around for a bit to see if anyone joins! I'm usually on all the time though :) If there is no active conversation, feel free to start one!

Discord doesn't require membership, you can just join immediately by picking a username. So just check it out! It'd make me happy, please :3

(That link should work, if it doesn't let me know. Discord has a strange way of linking)

If you have a high level of skill especially I'd appreciate you joining if you don't mind helping others out to learn this beautiful language. Go raibh maith agat agus bíodh lá maith agat!

You awaken in a slightly disoriented state. You remember nothing. Upon attempting to flit about as normally your kind do, you realize you are very weak, and surrounded by some form of solid walls, mostly transparent but somewhat disorienting to look through.
What do you do?

Spoiler: Details (click to show/hide)

Hi guys :D If you know me you know I'm very all about learning new languages, my big language right now is Irish but I'm also planning on Czech in the future. Anyway, there is a neat app I found called Speaky ( Speaky for Google Play/Android or Speaky for iOS-See Edit-). The app is basically a social network designed around learning languages with other people. You can search up friends to add in almost any language that you want (They even have more obscure language support). It seems like a really cool concept. I just started using it so I don't know the activity level of other users (I tried an app called WeSpeke which had an identical function but was filled with lots of dead profiles, reviews said and after having sent out a small number of requests with no reply is probably likely) but I do want to try to use it. If anyone is on it currently or maybe interested in joining, post here and maybe we can set up language partnerships.

Thanks! :)

EDIT: I should've looked at the apps before i linked them :( The apple version was wrong, I'm not entirely sure if there IS a Speaky for Apple. However there is another app for iOS that is similar, here ya goo HelloTalk Language Exchange for iOS

Other Games / Bay 12 City (MyMiniCity)
« on: June 23, 2015, 02:40:45 pm »
My Mini City is a cool little game (sort of) online that lets you pick a country and create a city that you get to name there. And then increase it's population. And that's it.

Anyway, I made one for Bay12.
http://bay-12.myminicity.com/
That above link increases the population of the city.
Later on after we get more population we can increase things like industry, and such. Those are separate links, I'll update this post with those links once we reach those populations.
Clicking on any one link means clicking again on any of the links does nothing for the next 24 hours. As in, you must wait a day in between clickies.

If anyone else makes any cities feel free to post them here if you want to get clicks for them

EDIT: Damn, rapid expansion.
Here's our linkies:

As of: 11:09 07/13/15
Unemployment: 2% (Industry at 98%)
Transportation:99%

POPULATION: http://bay-12.myminicity.com
INDUSTRY: http://bay-12.myminicity.com/ind
TRANSPORTATION: http://bay-12.myminicity.com/tra
SECURITY: Not Enough Population
ENVIRONMENT: Not Enough Population
BUSINESS: Not Enough Population

Other Games / GAI (Gods and Idols)
« on: June 21, 2015, 10:59:48 am »
Hi guys!

So there's this cool MMORTS-like game called Gods and Idols. It's a kind of Godlike sandbox game at the moment, its still very much in development, but is actively being worked on. The idea behind the game is you are a god in space, and you can create planets or destroy them, I think eventually (further in development) stars and such too. Also, you rule an empire of loyal subjects who (at the moment) build buildings, but will eventually be able to travel to other planets, that you made or other players made. They will build fleets for you and you can wage your holy wars against other gods and their empires. It's got a really cool premise, I'd advise you to check it out! The forums are a bit lonely at the moment with only a number of dedicated people who come on frequently, so they could really use some love (from all of us weird people). I'd really like to see this game get more attention than it does, so please check it out, maybe sign up and try the game. If you don't like it, it's free and doesn't take up much space so you hardly lose anything.

So please, sign up (free is a pretty awesome color)! Try out the game, lurk on the forums and maybe pop out some suggestions or so for the game. I'd really appreciate it if you would since it would help it out a lot.

In case you missed my above hyperlink: http://www.godsandidols.com/forum/

Thanks for giving it some attention!

Dia dhuit!

My Irish is a little rough and I'm still learning. (I probably forgot an accent in that greeting). But I think it's a beautiful language and I want to learn, but it's hard to learn when I'm an American and it's a minority language even it its homeland. Has anyone else been interested in learning to speak it, or does speak it? It'd be great to have someone to talk with or get pointers from.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / New Perspective on Player Status
« on: November 04, 2014, 08:55:24 pm »
Has anyone ever considered that as a player, we ARE the fortress? Literally, as though the fort is a living entity?
