Title: It knows all!
Post by: Zigzom24 on June 24, 2011, 11:19:41 pm
Okay this is kind of like 20 questions, but with characters from anything. It can be a T.V. show, a game, a movie, an anime, anything. This has guessed it correctly every time for me. http://us.akinator.com/  It even got Urist McDwarf! Its just a cool game to waste some time.

Oh I love Akinator. It has Toady and ThreeToe too (I added ThreeToe's picture :D)

It might also have Cacame. Haven't tried it.

It got Today on the first try....THIS IS AMAZING.

edit: This just in. It got carp. And it was linked to DF. I love this game. I'm going for thermonuclear catspolsion next.

It just got Cacame on its first try, complete with raised-warhammer painting.

I got Urist McDwarf.  (A picture of sankis on fire from boatmurdered)  This thing is pretty neat.

Others it found on it's first try when I searched are:
Jose Biaz
Temeraire
Saphira
Kain Highwind
Commander Shepard
Bahamut
EDIT:
Smaug
Minsc
Boo
John Irenicus
Biggs
The Terrasque
And the most suprising:
Captain Ironblood

I managed to trick it with "Elephant". Though that might have been too generic of a guess.
Title: Re: It knows all!
Post by: Organum on June 25, 2011, 10:43:45 am
Elephant isn't really a character, so it's easy to see why it got tripped up.

I got Urist, Mordecai from Regular Show, and Gnome Chmpsky. This thing is great.

There have already been at least 6 threads about Akinator, (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?action=search2;params=eJwtzkkOwjAMBdC7sGHzF3U6wWmiNLHUQkiQG0BIOTwO6sbDk23ZhbdLnkM9V6qnukirLqAOE0bMMAZEII0DqIdm9Bhg1CbQDNLZEXSF6XR9X_PH-vx4Ri6shxq9lhv7YnOK30OyFBs20S7w7g_RTjjy_5tG7MSviu6-JVey_ADXfDgk) one of which is less than 6 months old. None of them came up when I searched for it. So you can make it 7 threads, one of which is at least 1 day old.

It might also have Cacame. Haven't tried it.
It does now! It kept asking repetitive questions-Does it walk on two legs, does it have legs, does it walk on two legs...
I'm glad to have beaten it, though.

When I tried Cacame again to test, one of the early questions was if the character was a dwarf. Later questions were if he liked dwarves and lived underground.  :D Akinator asked if he was female twice, though... First guess the second time was WoW orc. The second was Urist McDwarf. The third: Cacame!

It got Artemis Fowl and Ender's Game on the first try. THE QUESTIONS WERE SO VAGUE! HOW THE
Those are resonably popular. My guess is that, each time someone is honest, it gets better due to understanding the thing better. If you want to destabilize it, think of Urist McDwarf and answer as a wimpy elf. Or, think of Andrew Wiggin and answer as Stiltson, or whatever.

Random side note: Akinator asked if [Threetoe] was in trouble with the law, made a fool of himself, and other stuff like that. It also asked if [Toady] was a religious figure. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I think it works on a probability algorithm so that a few wrong answers don't lead it completely astray. So if it's asking the same question twice, it's because he can rule out or pin down a character if the certainty of some statement goes up.

Muahahaha, he didn't guess Kyrre from Heroes of Might and Magic III (there is a list of heroes here (http://www.heroesofmightandmagic.com/heroes3/heroesrampart.shtml))

EDIT: She was my favorite hero, i'm going to try Sandro, Yog, Crack Hack and Tazar, they are more used/popular

EDIT2: LOL, i was thinking of Tazar and he guessed Crack Hack the first try, guessed a HoMM V character for the 2nd time. I guess he isn't a fan of HoMM :P

The Forgotten Beast Akinator Dotcom has come! A diminutive humanoid composed of internets. It has a long robe made of blue pixels and it knows and intones the names of all it encounters. Beware its timewasting capabilities!

Using silly graphics and inviting textual overtures, it will feed on your interest to slowly build an increasingly comprehensive yet questionably valuable database. I recommend walling it off below the clear glass floor in the dining hall and feeding it ambushes of forum trolls.

Defeated him four times: tristram shandy, panatagruel, dulcinea del toboso, bradamante...
He finally got me: Lady Penelope from Thunderbirds are Go!

Clearly, he can't be defeated with pop culture.  And whether you win or lose, you're just making Akinator stronger.

(The question, "does your character have human skin?" made me crack up though).

Forgotten Beast: 1st guess Colossus from Shadow of the Colossus, then Nothing, then "Someone who keeps clicking on "probably not" to see what happens."

Post by: Lagslayer on June 26, 2011, 07:36:47 pm
First I tried to get Urist McDwarf, and he had no problem with it.

Second, I tried Lucy from Elfen Lied, and he guessed Haruhi first, but got it on the second try.

Next I tried Armok, and he gave up after 3 guesses.

Cacame is in there. He went through some elder scrolls characters first, but it's there.

Who programmed this thing? Or is it like wikipedia and anyone can edit it. Scratch that, after he gave up on Armok, he asked me if it was anything on a list, and I chose the option to put in a new name. This thing is awesome.
Title: Re: It knows all!

It got the seagulls from Finding Nemo. I thought I was gonna stump him with that one.

Master Chief.
Dexter Morgan.
Urist McDwarf.
Megan Fox.
Dana Scully.
Frodo Baggins.
Commander Shepard.
Cortana.
Alice Cullen.
Admiral Ackbar.
Rebecca Black.
Sergent Avery J. Johnson.
343 Guily Spark.
Gravemind.
2401 Penitent Tangent.
Ellen Degeneres.

I'm not outright debunking this, but i need to point out: It asks all these questions, but some are wrong so it'll keep asking until it finds one that's right. I gotta admit it's good, but the way it asks these question is a little suspicious. Know what i mean?

The order some of the questions are in, and the accuracy etc. is maybe a little good to just be random,, but it still needs further investigation... Sometimes it make a pretty good guess, but it's the times where you're practically telling it when i start to doubt it.

EDIT: Three times, it's failed to guess Amy Lee from Evanescence. IT HAS BEEN DEFEATED.

EDIT: ROFL WHAT THE HELL @ ARMOK'S PICTURE.

Boatmurdered (maybe cheating?) got some souley sword, Brain from Cortex Command, and Keyblade. I was apparently the first to think of that.
Draltha got Panda Bear Guy from Ursadon, Colossus from Shadow of the Colossus, and Kongor, a giant gorilla from Heroes of Something.

McGill Fieghan

Success:
Ayanami Rei
Guts
Lilith (Borderlands)
Dr. Zed (on guess 2, guess 1 was Conrad Verner, lol)
Urdnot Wrex
Tali'Zora vas Normandy
Susannah Dean
Tyrael (in 2 guesses)

Half can easily be from it leading to the right answer with your answers (asked if it was from a Blizzard game, and if it was red. Not hard to put 2+2 togther to get Diablo), but some are some uncannily good guesses, so i don't know...

EDIT: First time thought i was talking about a robot from League of Legends, second time it thought i was talking about a Mad Cat from the BattleTech universe, third was the White Glint from Armored Core: For Answer.

It was close with the Mad Cat, but i was actually thinking of the Blood Asp.

Hah! Just defeated it with Fygar from Dig Dug. There's just too many green bipedal lizards in video games for it to pick out easily. (It guessed Croc, Trogdor, and a Daedroth before giving up.)

Before that, it got Jambi the Genie and Cookie Monster on the first try, and the Gorn Captain, Jayna (the Wonder Twin) and the Fireys (Labyrinth) on the second try each.

I then ran Cut Man past him, and he got that on his second try, right after guessing Crash Man. (Oh, so close!)

Oh God Damn it, you had to bring up the Akinator. THE FIEND! DEVIL SPAWN! I've only managed to outguess it maybe three or four times, tops, guessing really, really, really obscure things, or characters that have next to no personality (the cast of Big Bang Theory, for example).

No, no, no. The guy in the picture isn't Armok at all, it's just some random dwarf. Armok is the cat that is sitting on top of the dwarf's head. The five other cats below are his sons Famine, Pestilence, War, Death, and Pet Adoption.

I managed to catch it with Oranos/Uranus/Whathaveyou. I'm reasonably sure that's partially because it kept re-asking questions with slightly different wording, however, as it seemed really close to getting it (guessed Kronos...) before it started doing that.

Edit: I'm trying to get it to guess 'Obama' now... It just asked me if he's associated with sex and if he's often seen without his shirt. After confirming it's a president. I am... relatively sure I know which presidents it's thinking of.

It got Sami from Advance Wars, Book from Firefly, and the Boomerang Bird from Angry Birds.  I like how the questions get more and more specific as it gets more sure of itself, it actually seems smart.
Modification: It even caught Jean Chretien, the Michelin Man, and freaking Guy With a Halberd!

I managed to totally stump it (all three guesses) with a character from a flash game.  When I first found this... years ago now... it was also stumped totally by Princess Eilonwy from the Chronicles of Prydain.... trying her again today, it still took Akinator the second guess.

Durin the Deathless was a stump for one guess (I was getting bored, so called it after that)  the first name on the "is it one of these?" list after Balin, who it guessed, was Urist McDwarf.  Durin was at the very end of that list.

It got a bunch of other characters with almost no effort.  It didn't even take 20 questions to guess Elesh Norn.

Time to see if it can get Gordon Frohman, John Freeman, John Stalvern, Peter Chimaera, and (I doubt it'll fail this last one) itself.

It got Frohman on Guess 2.
MOTHERF- JOHN FREEMAN ON FIRST TRY.
John Stalvern: Missed 2 guesses (Warhammer 40k Spess Mehren, then some derpist from AvP2).
> 15. Does your character fight demons? Yes D:
> 20. Does your character come from the internet? Yes SHIT
> Third Guess: John Stalvern (Doom: Repercussions of Evil) MOTHERF-
Got itself when I did Akinator on its second guess.
For Peter Chimaera, it guessed "Noob," "Ally (Brawl)," and "POLITE_ALLCAPS_GUY (Reddit)." Now all those traits have been added for Peter Chimaera (Author). :<

Got it again with Belacqua from Frozen Synapse.

Akinator apparently finds it easier to guess Armok (first try) than Yahweh (2 tries), heh heh. It got Billy Mays and Richard Dawkins on the first try as well.

-Any character I care to try from Firefly? Check.
-Mrs Brisby? Check.
-Pinkie pie? Check, first try
-The avatar cast? Stumped him with admiral Zhao, but it found the other ones.
- Lancelot? Done.

Ooookay, level two!
- Michael Carpenter (Dresen files) : Check
- Charlemagnes? check.
- Ai Tanabe, from Planetes? Found at the first try  :o
- Jacques-Yves Cousteau? Check
- Zoe Castillo (main character from the game Dreamfall)? Did not even take him the 20 questions. Seriously?
- Croaker, from the Black Company? Check

It didn't know Mouse Guard characters, nor the Grey Mouser, but apart from it, it's pretty impressive to see it close in on some answers...

Hmm, let's see.

Round 1:
Try 1: Guessed Sanae
Try 2: Guessed Reimu (Correct).

Round 2:
Try 1: Guessed Glover.
Try 2: Guessed Myon. (Correct).

I've been able to stump it a number of times. I think usually with slight variations of other known characters, or just quite obscure ones. It really depends on it asking the right questions. Guessed Smiling Jack on the first try but couldn't guess Caine or Malkav. Never asked if they were vampires those times.
I am impressed with how many characters are stored in it though. Buuut, if I can think of it, someone else has already asked. Knew Laverne, Belgarath, Angua, Princess What's-Her-Face, Ursikar. E. Creed, Cultist-chan... even Sidorovich.

Edit: Ooo, just got a Bloodsucker.

Today's guesses:

1. Cthulhu [first try]
2. Merlin [2nd try]
3. Akinator (!) [first try]
4. Shinji Ikari [first try]
5. Zeruel [3rd try. Tried guessing cthulhu first...]
6. Deimos (son of ares, not the moon) [Failed, had to add manually]
7. Phobos (ditto) [Also ditto]

It seems to do poorly when asked about relatively minor things, or otherwise obscure things. But then, that's pretty reasonable.

Lovecraft, Azatoth, Jade from "beyond good and evil" (but not Deirdrana from "Jagged Alliance 2"), and Tordek from the D&D3 rulebook... That's one nerdy psychic  (In the best of sense, of course :P )

Defeated it with Harriet Lane. The time I've spent studying the lives of the first ladies has not been wasted! Er, wait.

Basically, semi-obscure historical figures may be the way to go.

I got it with Borma from Ghost in the Shell, although it guessed two other characters from the series.

Guess 1: Urist McDwarf (wrong)
Guess 2: Roll (megaman) (Wrong!  Closer with Urist!)
Guess 3: Queen of All Cosmos (... what?)
Correct Answer: Tholtig Cryptbrain.  It asked if my character was a dwarf early, but somehow got off that track.  Akinator knew of Tholtig, but she didn't even appear on the "I got close" list.

It got right:
Weebam-Na (Elder Scrolls Oblivion)  (2 rounds)
Eggplant Wizard (Kid Icarus)  (2 rounds)
Princess Alena (Dragon Quest IV) (2 rounds)
Kane (Command & Conquer)  (First Guess)
Constance Badger (Redwall)

It got wrong/couldn't guess (even in 3 rounds):
Moe Beihl (SimCity3)  *
Cacame (Dwarf Fortress)
Chobin Hood (Secret of Mana)  *
King Burland (Dragon Warrior 4)  *
Kid Icarus (Kid Icarus)
Wanderer (Xanadu)

* = I added it to it's repertoire, they were completely missing.

It can't get Casey the Salamander. The last three times it tried it froze.

Does that mean I win?

I give up. How do you guys get Armok? All I can tell him is he's an evil god from a video game, associated with the color red and that he's awesome, but Akinator doesn't seem to get anywhere with this information.

OK, how the hell does he do it? He got
 -Hicks from Aliens
 -Xenomorphs
 -The Predator
 -Isaac Clarke
He's probably going to get the Necromorphs next.

EDIT: Yep. Then, after he failed once, he got the aliens from Independence Day. Good lord.

Apparently I'm pretty good at fooling it. I've added 2 characters to its database (the pet rock from Methods of Rationality and Gerolamo Cardano). I fooled it even when I intentionally picked an easy character (Edward Elric). Apparently it's fooled by the fact that I consider humans to be a type of animal:

It got bloodwing from borderlands in one try.  Never even got particularly specific, just asked if he was male, I said no to a number of colors, whether it could fly, whether it is a bird and if it killed anyone.  Didn't even specify videogame, or ask if it was anyone's pet.

Surely bloodwing isn't the only bloodthirsty bird thing in media...

This thing is pretty cool.  It managed to get what I expected to be obscure characters mostly on the first try.  Off hand I recall trying out Gabriel Angelos, Firiona Via, JC Denton and Ciaphas Cain and it managed to get them on the first try.  All with what seemed to be fairly vague selection criteria.

When I felt like being a jerk I tried out Rodcet Nife (the god of healing from Everquest), which I was pleased to note it couldn't guess, even with 50 questions.  An obscure reference indeed.

Guessed Ajax, Son of Telamon.
Guessed Innoruuk, though I'd argue with a lot of the answers it expected.
Had to teach it Xegony (but it guessed Tunare before being defeated).
