You ask "what on god's green Earth would lead me to thinking Voyager would be good" ... but TNG was good, and DS9 was gooder. Therefore it would be a fair assumption that Voyager was around the same level of goodness as those, and it had a great premise.

Why would I assume it's going to be bad until I actually saw it?

Voyager isn't really all that bad, it just has a few really lame episodes that are on par with Season 3 of TOS. But I'm only on season 2 right now, and I'm expecting that things will pick up in later seasons (notable new cast member yet to appear).

Remember, TNG season 1 had Super-Wesley saving the day almost every time anything needed saving (they stopped doing that due to fan backlash), the female doctor was fired for season 2, but brought back because the new doctor wasn't really clicking with the cast, and season 1 seemed to go through a new Chief Engineer virtually every episode that had engineering in it. I'm still not sure what was up with that: casting troubles? A desire to minimize the focus on engineering in favor of the bridge crew? IDK. DS9 didn't have the casting issues of TNG but they took a couple of seasons to work out the true focus of the show.

BTW, every Star Trek series had it's terrible episodes. The Pherengi Sex Change episode from DS9 stands out here.

Got literally no sleep last night due to heat. Even with the fans on full, my skin was burning hot to the touch. Did manage to binge-watch and finish the Kirby anime.

Went to the kitchen for breakfast/coffee, only to find my stepdad had unplugged the microwave, the only method I have of heating anything anymore.

He had his coffeemaker plugged in to the same spot, so that was out of the question.

Voyager was one that I wanted to be good, but it just... wasn't.  It was the first Trek that I thought felt "forced".  Yes, TNG had its odd moments, and a fair number of them, but never felt forced.  Voyager and Enterprise just felt...like the were trying too hard.

Also - I don't know how you would have managed to make it until 2018 without having enough subconscious influence to already think that Voyager was sub-par if you haven't seen it.  That's actually an impressive feat - it's more than 20 years old!

Oooh! Oooh! If people are going to not know about important scifi, has everyone here watched Stargate SG1?  I lent it to a friend of mine and he watched a couple of episodes before declaring it shit. I don't know why we're still friends, because he's a stupid, j-pop-soundtrack listening, dicks-for-fingers weeb.

You have an internet connection, so it's not Highland and Islands.  Ladies and gentlemen, we have an inhabitant of the Scilly Isles! (or the less exciting Channel Islands).

British "Mainland"

You mean France, right? :P

Entertainingly enough, the Channel Islands are tremendously French following a long period of back and forth with Norman kings.

Because I know literally zero people IRL who talk about Star Trek, and i don't frequent places online that talk about Star Trek. So where am I going to get Trek-related information exactly?
