Other Games / Re: How did you last *own*?
« on: July 17, 2014, 05:40:04 pm »
Playing the Floris mod for Mount & Blade:Warband. Running my own faction, only have Dhirim and Ergellon castle, so all holdings are crucial. Bitter war with the Swadians is raging, it's all I can do to ride back and forth along the front, regularly charging into battle with 2-1 odds or worse, only winning because every last soldier I have is a war hardened bastard. The news comes: Dhirim is under siege. Race back, recruiting at every location on the way, dumping items and slower units for just a few points of travel speed - the best soldier can't help if he doesn't arrive to the fight. There are roughly 1100 Swadian soldiers on hand, maybe 500 of them are low tier levees that don't matter, the rest are good enough to go man to man against my forces, a good 100 are very high tier units that I will personally need to engage. My garrison plus my force numbers 350. I fully expect to lose every last one of my men, see my capitol looted, and my nation dissolved. But I fight anyways, and the battle goes surprisingly well. Over the span of four hours, the first wave comes and is repulsed, the enemy losing some 200 of their fodder, my forces taking no deaths but suffering some 30 men too wounded to fight. A reprieve of a half day. Another wave. 150 of theirs for 40 of ours. Their better units are coming in now, and we have already reached the tipping point. Another reprieve. Third wave. Reprieve. Fourth wave. They still number nearly 400, and we number 100, but their men are fresh while ours are battered and in low spirits. And then, during what I thought would be the final reprieve, the last gasp of a dying dream, in rides 2200 Sarranid soldiers, hell bent on wrecking Swadian shit and willing to attack the siege camps for what I assume to be "the lulz". I rode out and joined them in their attack, and managed to capture the Swadian king for it. I don't know how to end this story. I guess now I regroup, build numbers, and pre-empt any more sieges.

Anyone know how to dig on your tile without having a numpad? Treasure maps are frustrating me to no end because of it.

I need to upgrade my computer soon if DS2 is coming out. Bought 1 awhile ago and it was always too much for my computer.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Your best artifact ever
« on: March 10, 2014, 11:21:13 pm »
Beamsorrow the artifact steel chain mail. At first I loved it because it is so incredibly useful, and it came right at the tail end of the forts first siege, which had claimed a number of dwarves, something of the order of fifteen brave souls. I started burying the fallen, when I noticed that one of my dead was a guardsman rather than a solider. I try to make my soldiers my no-family, no-friends killers and make my guard out of the useless-but-social migrants. Since a guardsmen died, I start looking for unhappy dwarves, anyone that knew Cog Towerbeam. I find only one sad dwarf, one of my blacksmiths. Now, I notice in this smiths relations that his wife is the smith that just made Beamsorrow, and checking her page shows the guard is her little brother. A very concise web of depression inside the family.

DJ! Do you need strong farms to provide you with endless linen? I always did want to play H&H alongside you again, found that the people were always more fun than the content.

So, I am back with more questions. To save myself a little time and frustration, I made a text document called dfhack.init in my main dwarf fortress folder. The text for it is the following
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It applies the armory fix on start up, but nothing else. I'm guessing I did not do it right, but I'll be honest about not understanding what is wrong. If someone could show me an example that would fix the binpatches, and one for the tweaks then I can apply the changes across the rest. Also, not sure if I did growthbug right. It is called growthbug.lua in my scripts folder, and is just a text document containing Putnams code. And when I say text documents, by the way, I mean they open with notepad and have the .txt ending.

Sorry if I'm missing something frustratingly obvious, but I am having issues with the hack to fix fortress born critters growing. First off, I have to be honest and say I'm not comfortable or competent with lua. Whenever I try to run lua files, I get that windows prompt to select the program to open it with. Is there something I'm needing to get? Or is this something that someone could just put up as a download for those of us who are not quite so savvy?

Dear sweet Hastur, yes it is! Thank you very much. Now to procure the game..

I have two that I think might be toughies.

The first was, I think, on the PS2. You controlled a boat in some sort of military conflict, from a top down perspective. You could outfit it before missions, customizing the gun batteries and stuff, upgrading your crew.

The other one, most definitely on the N64, had you as a wizards apprentice in this big castle. It was a 3d third person. The intro sequence was all about going to visit some magical plant guy in the woods, finding his house empty, getting ambushed by goblins and poisoned. Then you get sent out on a quest to find an antidote or something, and you can recruit people into your party.

Joining up with Kilakan village. Fair warning to my village mates, my video settings for Skype are designed to obscure and blind, don't stare too long. Also, my voice sounds like a 12 year old trying to sound grown up. I was cursed by the gods of puberty  :'(.
