Life Advice / A friend of mine needs monetary help.
« on: November 09, 2017, 08:02:23 am »
Preface: I checked the forum guidelines and I wasn't able to see anything regarding monetary 'begging' as it stands, so with this risk as I'm unsure about my reading comprehension as of the moment, I will take it so.

A close friend of mine is in dire straits right now; he and his mother are having financial troubles due to a lack of a job. He did try to find work, but as it is, they have zero income due to being blindsided by someone in their relationship circle. Right now, they set up a GoFundMe Webpage, and they need help.

If you guys can share awareness of their plight and/or provide direct monetary help, I would be immensely grateful about this. Not going to force you guys though; you all have your own priorities, which is normal. But yes, if some were able to petition a potato salad into fruition, I think we can help someone in need, right?

If this goes against any rule, I will be taking this down. Thank you for your time.

I'm actually running at a loss in understanding what to do with the situation. I want to sell high value items such as housing properties or a friend's vehicle as I'm getting a portion of the pay as agreed. While this would be a pain to do given I'm not officially contracted, any money helps so I can actually start amassing and investing capital on items to actually sell on my own in the first place.

Respectively, a brother who I am in good terms with wants to sell some house and also asking for sales tips as well as he hasn't closed a deal yet, and a different friend sells gasoline by the bulk for cheaper the market price.

I want to capitalize on these opportunities, but I'm lacking in proper approaches, anyone in the industry care to share some tips?

It's your big day; you've finally gotten past the pesky basic training and are now moving into production floor, where you finally get to take calls! Yay.

You've always thought yourself as a mildly-savvy tech person, that's why you asked for a tech support assignment during the hiring process, and boom, you got yourself into the Costcam account, where you troubleshoot for internet service exclusively, although your company supports Phone, Internet and Cable TV services as well.

You were given three pieces of advice; the first of which is to never over-extend your help, the second of which is not to panic, and the third is to keep fighting. Generic advice. But you're tech support, why are you not supposed to extend your help, you wondered.
"Oh well, that's just gonna have to stay in the backburner for now," you mutter to yourself.

You also fashioned yourself as a 'scientific mystic,' and while derided from your more logical peers, you feel that there is indeed an existence of a god who prefers to make people miserable on his own whims, at the most opportune moments. So you religiously carry a pair of 2d6, and roll it absentmindedly on the floor just outside of the building.

Snake eyes. Shit, you think to yourself. Today's not going to be a great day. You steel yourself and proceed up the heavily-laboured elevators that have been ascending and descending for hours during the Call Center's 11-year occupation in that building.

---

Ascending into the place they call the 'production floor,' you finally enter the premises and are greeted with a big door telling you to speak completely in English or else, penalties would be doled out, and that your calls and workflow would be monitored and fraud is discouraged and immediately for termination. It also tells you to deposit your gear.

But we don't know what you have, aside from these ones:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

So, who are you, what else do you have on your inventory, and why have you exactly come to work as a Tech Support under this company?

The Final Approach - Beginning of an End

The year is 2160AD. Bydo incursions have slowed down since the last attacks that culminated in the loss of the blueprints and the prototypes of the R-90 Ragnarok, R-13A Cerberus, and the R-9A2 Delta. Fortunately for humanity, the technology still exists; one simply has to "reinvent the wheel", so to speak. After several missions into Bydo Space, Humanity seemingly has located the true location of the Bydo Mother Core and the one real way to end the fight.

The Final Approach thus begins...

An R-Type inspired Arms Race game run by one who has little to no commitment running forum games (but that may change???), and certainly one who hasn't run an Arms Race game before, although I observed Sensei's magnificent game. In this game, you attempt to develop ships, weaponry and technologies in order to curb the threat of the other entity. Because this is also an Arms Race game, you also get to play as the series' main antagonists, and get to kill the other side of the party in your rage and desire to conquer all.

People get to propose weaponry to use, create, and when time gets to it, affix said weaponry to ships and test them live-fire on the enemy. Rolls will be done behind the scenes, and statistics determined on the type of weaponry/ship/technology, and its features. Weaknesses are also typically developed, which can be refined by researching/developing more on the same item.

As is usual with Arms Race type games, two game threads will be maintained, and you are advised demanded not to visit the other thread if you've already picked a side. Nobody likes a shifty allegiance-shifter person. But before we do that, let's run an interest check and clarify some issues as needed here, so I can tweak the game before running it.

When civilization sunk beneath the seven seas, deep forests spread across the five remaining islands. Only the chosen ones escaped the waters in the castle stronghold. Eventually, the waves overtook even the last five islands...

And the castle was all that remained.

After the passing of ages, the people of the floating castle chose to descend upon their mother soil.

These are the chronicles of High Lagaard.

It's been a while since you've been active. The damned Randolph Carter stripped you of all of your powers from the previous world, leaving you an ancient husk of what you once were. And then you weren't taken to the land of sick beats and mad rhythms as promised. You were taken somewhere... duller.

It's a good thing you slept. You'd rather not remember what happened.

Your hauler is in the process of transporting you from Etria, where you were discovered somehow and spent a lot of time dormant, towards High Lagaard. Legend tells of seven tall trees eclipsing the skies above with their leaves. These trees contain Labyrinths of untold value; of hidden mystery. Maybe you'd want to discover a part of the mystery there; see what unfolds?

Spoiler: Thralls (click to show/hide)

You look at the above spoiler and wonder what the frick that is supposed to be. It might be a good time to assess if you remember your own abilities. You can sense that you are en route to Sitoth Trading anyway. It might be worthwhile to spend some time in thought while awaiting your arrival. It's not exactly a good idea to be creating a ruckus when your transporters could still be of use while you reassess your powers.

You are, after all, a vase. A priceless $83 Million Dollar Ming Dynasty Porcelain Vase, at that.

It's been one, two- or five days since you've been trapped in your office. Actually, you are not even sure about the passage of time in this phenomenon. What if time wasn't real? Or what if time was obliterated? Given that time period, people would have already panicked, and you actually did for what seemed like a day. Then you realized you weren't getting thirsty or hungry, and remained still when you discovered the door leading outside of your room wouldn't budge even a single inch.

The lights don't work; documents are strewn around the room due to massive quakes that occurred during the earliest hours of this most peculiar phenomenon, and the windows have been like that for many hours now. You're sure they lead outside, but they have remained fully lit when logically the outdoors should have darkened for at least 10 hours. They've also become foggy -- so foggy you can't even see a single inch outside, like a CFL tube that's fully lit.

You've been listless for a few days now. Your curiosity grows stronger each passing moment. A feeling of anxiety also permeates the environment around you. You are unsure what happens next.

The door taunts you each passing second you remain idle. But you've tried it and tried it earlier - you're certain it won't open again. But, just a little time trying the door again won't hurt. The papers on the floor are unsightly, and considering this is an office space for an esteemed investigator such as yourself, you feel that you should set things back in order.

An old, decrepit structure stands before you; its appearance being familiar and yet, foreboding. You swore to yourself you would never come back here again. But you want answers. You want to know why it is that you left the comfort of this home with irreconcilable dread.

And the reason for the death of your parents, specifically.

Something tells you this isn't going well. Something tells you you shouldn't go. Something tells you... that a little peek will solve your curiousity, and then you can go.

You don't have much willpower to fight against yourself. In front of you stands a monolithic rust-brown metal door that bars entry to the structure you once called the 'storehouse' of your own home. Your home proper is equally abandoned, but you do not feel as tense as you would when approaching this structure.

Will you afford yourself time to visit home, or is the pull of curiosity too strong for you to deny?

Life Advice / Need help finding a particular type of Questionnaire Format.
« on: February 18, 2016, 12:16:50 pm »
I'm not exactly sure how to do this, but the professor is looking for a type of questionnaire that is answered twice; specifically something that looks into the expected and perceived type of questionnaire. My Googlefu is weakening; I can't seem to find any.

E: Nevermind; found a Parasuraman questionnaire template over the net. I can't really just go making questionnaires without finding a source; the panelists for Thesis defense would grill me.

Life Advice / Cyclothymia - dealing with it, how?
« on: January 04, 2016, 08:37:04 pm »

For those familiar with economics, here's a visual representation of my depression swings.

Suppose I am depressed again, and I'm at SRATC1, I'll end up being happy again somewhere, then I'll enter SRATC3, which due to the LRATC, is tangibly lower than everything else. If at the peaks of SRATC1 I am euphoric, at SRATC3 I have some kind of epiphany in which I don't feel as good, but still that life is worth living, and then it dips, lower than SRATC1 even. What I'm saying is that, I get more depressed. Now, imagine instead of this curve just going up at SRATC4, it goes all the way down to SRATC8, at which point some kind of very hard realization hits me and I become VERY suicidal.

And then, it goes up again at SRATC8 to SRATC16, where I become happy again.

For those not familiar with what I've said, my depression is cyclical; and tends to have worse dips than previous depression cycles ago. Only upon the realization of an important thing will it curve back upwards in the long run, and I really hate feeling bipolarly depressed.

So, how do I deal with this, non-medically preferred.

Other Games / Why exactly has the Vita failed to "click" with the market?
« on: January 04, 2016, 02:09:02 am »
Yeah, I'm rather curious about the PS Vita's life cycle, and its seeming lack of non-Japanese games; which exact factors can cause a catastrophic venture such as this.

Creative Projects / Hobby-Enhancing Workout Plans/Methods?
« on: January 01, 2016, 01:33:33 pm »
I don't think this belongs in Life Advice, so w/e, but yeah. I'm rather having a drought of ideas at the moment, and this puts a damper to my skills. Anybody got tips on how to maintain and actually get beyond the ever so dreaded "Writer's Block*?"

Tell me how you maintain your skills to keep them in working order.

*Not necessarily exclusive to writing.

"Some things are better left unknown. Unlearned."

Those were the last words you ever heard from the Archmage, who, upon discovery of you dabbling on the Blood Arts, struck you down with a bolt of searing hellfire. You never stood a chance, and cursed him to the hells as your flesh burnt away from your bones, leaving only a charred skeleton on the floor of the Mage's Guild.

Fortunately, you had enough foresight to form a contract with the Demon Lords, and furthermore avoid exacting the dealings of the contract itself, on you part. Exploiting a flaw from the contract made with the Archdevil of Time, Xiyagjez, you managed to steal the art of bifurcating probabilities and use it as your own to escape Xiyagjez's mournful Timeless Pits.

Gradually, your soul returns to reality, and into the pile of bones you once called your body, reforming it into a functional skeleton suit. The runic markings etched into your bones by way of Blood Magic preserved your skeletal frame well, having shed the thick layer of soot when your flesh incinerated into ash.

The guildhall looks decrepit. There's been signs of conflict, on top of being abandoned halfway. Some time indeed passed. You wonder if the Archmage is still alive. Those guys tend to get all of the power and act all high and mighty when people get to somewhere near their levels... you're still sure he's alive somewhere.

Before you proceed, you must give yourself a name. Who you once were matters no longer; if you were to strike fear now, there should be a name to attribute that terror to.

Were you a practitioner of Thaumaturgical Necromancy? Or were you a practitioner of Alchemical Necromancy? You spend some time trying to remember your history, including if you did even have followers from previous years that seem to have passed by.

I don't want to deal with having to cull them again on all files, but I'll do what I have to do.

Demon sword. Panacea. Those were the names they called you; the former from your detractors, and the latter from those who see your potential.

You don't remember much - if at all, what you were before. You, however, are aware that you can think, albeit most of your thoughts turn back to why exactly you exist. Contrary to your detractors' beliefs, you were in fact created and not found by a small team led by a Chief Sagami, intended to be used as a method to coax those comatose out of their states of incapacity.

A Demon... intended to heal... created by Human hands. That is what you are.

You are valued for one specific nature of your abilities: the ability to reinforce a Human person's consciousness by using yourself as a basic skeletal framework and mounting on yourself the identity of that person. In layman's terms, the unconscious human can see themselves being controlled forcibly by yourself, but only to the extent where your actions conform to their beliefs and values. As such, at your current state, you cannot do 'evil' things when you are mounted on a Human whose values conform to the sociological 'good.'

To the medical world, your abilities mean everything. The comatose will rise, due to your immense willpower. People have dubbed you Deus ex Machina - a god hidden in a tiny machine. A god that can heal the near-dead.

But today, your creators plan to unseal a larger portion of your power. This time, the reason is not to wake the sleeping. It is to create memories for an unconscious, amnesiac but otherwise healthy individual.

"Seal levels at 70%!" said one of those who made you. The other creator implores them to keep your seals at that level. You recall that 90% of your powers were sealed. You are unsure as to which, but insofar as you care, you actually are indifferent to their cause for now. It would seem that you have not developed much of an opinion for your creators - after all, you just woke.

You feel a clamp holding you, then moving you towards the comatose body of an amnesiac. Advanced servomotors guide you deftly into their hands.

"Initiate Brainjack operation!"

A ray of energy radiates from the clamp, giving you enough energy to enforce yourself into the psyche of the unconscious.

What did you see in their empty mind?

Please remain in your homes, if you are not at home, find shelter immediately. Close all blinds and shades, block out all windows.
Do not look outside.
Do not look at the sky.
Do not make noise.
Your cooperation is vital to your survival. Appointed government personnel will update you shortly.

The first broadcast was the last. This was a week ago. At first, it seemed like an ominous, but not entirely unusual emergency broadcast. "Probably a test.", people said. Then the sky blackened, and stars descended to the ground. Everyone the anomalies engulfed emerged dead and drained of color. Panic ensued. Fortunately, you managed to survive.

You and a group of three other people - an unlikely team, managed to find each other in the biggest mall in town: Cuismet Malls Mega Shopping Center. You have decided to survive together in order to make sense of the situation.
