At this point, we can’t afford to be too proud to beg. Disbanding our army is a bad idea, but so is starvation. Annoying our neighbours with slave raids is a bad idea in our current state. Divine intervention is not as sure a fix as just importing grain (or workers).

The steward quickly bows.

"I'll send messengers to our neighbors."

300 AC, Early Autumn

"This vile scum!"

Your steward enters in the throne room like an hurricane, his clothes furiously whirling around him, followed by your chief diplomat.

"This treacherous miser! May his greed rots his guts!"

As you raise an eyebrow befor this din, your diplomate moves forward.

"We received a response from the king of Nenubilanur. In exchange for enough food to go through next year..."
"He asks for an entire year of tin production! A year!" cuts off the steward.
"He's clearly taking advantage of our position, but I don't know if we can afford to refuse."

A) "We'll deal on our own, we won't cripple our economy for him"
B) "We need this food more than money for now"
C) "He wants our tin? How about he tastes our bronze!"

Yeah, no. That’s not an acceptable cost. It is a sufficiently insulting offer to justify war, but I don’t think we have the strength to fight one. Probably best to just decline.

C If we win though it does seemingly fix all our immediate issues and our martial skill isn't that bad I say we may got some type of chance of actually atleast getting a partial victory... not against refusing and hoping a better deal comes along though.

Besides this is the time period where even large sprawling empires didnt have a army bigger than 1% of their population maximum our success hinges more on good military tactics than the size of our army (although a big army certainty helps)

Edit: heck Alexander the Great conquered most of the known world with a army only the size of about 40k men im sure if we are smart about this we could pull a victory off.

Your general jumps from a nearby door, like he was waiting for this the whole time.

"A fine decision my lord!"

Your chief diplomat and steward stare at him, dumbfounded, but he continues nonetheless.

"Will you join us on this campaign?"

A) "Obviously!"
B)"I entirely trust you on this matter"

"Of course! Am I not your Tyrant and general after all?"

A few days later, you left the city with your army under the cheering of the crowd, promising wealth and food taken right from the greedy hands of Nenubilanur king.
A regent council composed of your advisors will rule Gedur in the meanwhile.

Congratulations! Tyrant Gezhugimiluk has embarked on campaign!

300 AC, Autumn

Following the Purantu river, mother of life and civilizations, you go south, towards the city of Ewadd, a tributary under Nenubilanur rule.
Moving quickly with your small and mobile forces, you plunder surrounding villages, taking food and enslaving its inhabitants. After a week of looting, your scouts warn you of an incoming army...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Using your speed and knowledge, you take an advantageous position for the battle. As the Nenubilanurians arrive in sight, you notice they are more than you. Nothing you can't offset, hopefully...

As per custom, you lead from your chariot. Other high-class Gedurians are around you, in chariots as well. Most commanders stay from behind, to command and intervene after the battle has started, in a make or break moment. Bolder ones however, taking inspiration from legendary figures, most often than not lead in the first line, to shatter the ennemy in a shock charge.

A) Stay in reserve with your charioteers
B) Lead from the front!

B "For glory!" (Plus if we lose this we will wish we died anyway)

A finee this is probably the smarter thing to do anyway

Better to use our skill to direct the battle, and intervene when needed.

You take position alongside charioteers in reserve. As both sides begin to move, you wait for the opportune moment to swoop on the Nenubilanurians.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Soldiers clash on the battlefield. Albeit in fewer number, your troops make good use of the terrain, the Nenubilanurian's left flank getting embroiled in the mud of the river. For a time, it seems sheer number alone would be enough to wear and tear your army, but Gedurians strike back and force your ennemies to step backwards.

And then, you see it: the gap, the perfect moment to launch a chariot charge. Your horn-blowers call for the charge, and you and your men rush downhill into the melee.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A contingent of spearmen somehow managed to organize in the way of your charge, but barely not enough to stop you. As you enjoy the momentum of your charge, your chariots shoving and crushing footmen, you can feel the battle is over. The Nenubilanurian's formation is broken, and first groups of soldiers start fleeing. Victory!

300 AC, Late Autumn

After a few weeks of looting, you believe you have enough food and slaves for Gedur. Despite noticeable casualties in the last battle, morale is still high, with both your reputation and your recent success in the minds of every soldier. Thus comes the question of the lips of your commanders: should we go further?

A) "We have what we want. Let's not escalate."
B) "We should push our advantage! Let's besiege the city of Ewadd!"

Our casus belli should not be stretched too far.
A

Of course, we can fairly safely assume we will have to fight again in the near future, but then we will be the defenders (and will have full bellies, which also helps).
