This is a pretty noob question but its never come up for me as I never really had any reason to butcher corpses since food wasn't important.

How does it work? I have a dagger and a Barn Owl Corpse (those exact words, not mutilated or anything) but when I try to select Butcher from the menu nothing happens whatsover. Just shows this

(r)emove or (d)rop that corpse. Then go to (x) butcher, select your sharp utensil of choice, press enter and begin nomming on some delicious pancreas.

Well, Im not sure if you can butcher stuff in your inventory, but if its a corpse or body part on the ground, you press x to bring up that same screen, select butcher (b), press right arrow, and select the part to butcher. Then press right again and choose the item to use to butcher (a weapon of some sort - usually sword/axe/bolt). Then the prepared stuff will be on the ground to pick up.

Oh, and if its something unbutcherable, youll get little messages at the top of the screen, like if you try to butcher a dwarf, itsll say in white 'Youre not that hungry'

Perhaps, because I tried all of that but can't butcher this barn owl.

Try standing above the corpse, instead of having it in your inventory.

If it's being held by your hand you can still butcher it. (r)emoving it puts it in your hand.

I feel so ignored ;_;
