Changes
Well, it has been a while. That means potential instability, so don't get too attached to your fortresses at this point. I'll be doing subsequent releases more often now as I solve problems. In any case, dwarf mode now has a z-axis and you can make fortresses that span several levels. Fluids behave much more reasonably, and you can walk across the world in adventure mode in the local view without having to step off of an artificial edge. And various other lots more stuff.

All hail Toady One the great!
Thanks man. THANKS.

HAIL! HAIL! HAIL!

How ironic. Just two minutes earlier, I had begged you to release. Looks like you listened. :)
-
Aw, what the heck, I'll click back on the download screen just to.... YES YES YES!!!!
-
Toady, you are Beyond Quality. ;)
-
YAYYYY! YAAAAAAYYYYY!
YAHHOOOOOOOOO!!!!
*Does a Dwarfy Fort Dance*ahem...This is a very good day.
:) :) :)
-
My response on seeing the update was to inhale all the air I possibly could, leaving my cheeks comically puffed up.
I'm not sure I'll be able to exhale until the download has finished.
EDIT: 8 minutes, hmmm. *Exhales*
Anyway, thanks Toady.

Hah, my first world is called "The Domain of Prophecies", and I certainly didn't name it that myself =P
Can't wait until it finishes building the world.
-
How do I find the cave in adventure mode? It used to be much easier, you just went south and it was there. But now... it seems to be impossible!
-
Yay!!! I'm kind of surprised the download still worked ;p But when your game is only 5MB zipped you don't get the usual problems with demo downloads. Thx Toady
-
Awesome but WOW, only v0.27xxxxx? I think we wont see v1.0 in the next 10 years. :D
-
Thanks, Toady! I already learned how to drown an adventurer without swimming upward! You rock! ^_^
-
OK, so I finally found the cave and there was defeated by the cyclops. The cave consisted of red sand, which gave it hellish feel. By the way anyone else gets horrible lags in towns? For me it is extremely slow.
-
Thank you. :)
-
Do arrows no longer pierce both of your lungs, and your eyes and heart all in one shot?
Do dwarves act smart when there is a fire now?
-
"The Wondrous Everseeing Universes" OMG!! I SAW IT COMING! AND ITS WONDERFUL!
ALL HAIL THE TOADY ONE!
/bows
/runs off to play
-
Thank you for this fantastic update.
I started the largest fort I could(for future expansion)
and it is a bit laggy, but,
THIS IS GREATedit: I turned off weather, and all is fast and fine. I am happy.

*Loads up Dwarf Fortress*...
What the shit?
>.>
<.<
I feel as if my beloved dwarf fortress has like...
like...
just when I finnaly got used to it, it showed me its techno japanese club side when I thought it was a innocent asian babe.
Or something.
What the fuck is a waterwheel?
Lawd!
Not that I don't like the update, but I have no idea what the FUCK is going on, amirite?
-
Runs very fast too! Some nice optimizations included?
All Hail Bay12 Games!
-
WAY TO GO! YOU ROCK, TOADY
*digging deep into new release*
-
YESSSSSSSSS! Gonna stay up all night with this :)
-
Toady, i appreciate the addition of coffin_no_pets option in the init.
-
Digs a hole, and puts dwarves in it.
Hooray!
-
At the risk of looking like I'm joining a bandwagon.
Thank You Toady and Threetoe.
I spent many an hour on the other version and expect to really enjoy this one as well.
-
I think that it making me move around on the z axis to view things downhill outdoors is kinda annoying, but otherwise I have no complaints.
-
I just about had a heart attack when I saw this.
-
Been quite ill the last day or two, and yet I am going to play this until I pass out or cant see my screen through my splitting headache.
Thanks a lot, Toady. If I could donate I definitely would.
If you ever need a hardware tech's assistance, don't be afraid to contact me (you have my email in this forum database)

Yeah, finding caves is too hard now. If you are on a quest, go to the Q quest log and you can zoom to the location -- if you do this when you are in the cave's world map square, it will show a zoomed in view that at least tells you if you are in the right rectangle. Search during the day as well. The entrance is a bit larger now, and you should find it eventually.
I'm aware of the lags, and I'll be working on them. For now, start in a small area if you can. Even a 3x3 area has more space than the old game if you aren't on top of an aquifer. Playing a 16x16 should be impossible for almost everybody. Adv mode has intermittent lags, especially in town. Hopefully I can squeeze more out of it.
I didn't make any changes to projectiles. Dwarves should ignore items on fire, but other than that, they are still minions of their own destruction.
qalnor, please don't name your children Toady.
-
Thanks a lot for your hard work Toady, I rarely awaited a game release with such anticipation!
-
Curse you Toady! My DM is too busy playing Dwarf Fortress to DM! Oh well, I guess I will too. Bress you Toaday!
-
Thank you Toady, you are the finest of the dwarven race.
I mean human.
-
I never registered on this forum, just waiting for the new release daily.
And here it is!!! I can't wait to test it.
Thank you so much for all your work!
-
Loving the new maps, though I haven't had a chance to actually make a fortress yet (I'm at school right now, although I have a free lesson 3rd...) I'm looking forward to multilevel fortresses and having dungeon and storage levels in particular.
-
All hail Toady! Thank you for a wonderful game.
I only just read about the new version and I'm having a VERY HARD TIME not leaving work to go home, download, and play, play, play.
Strike the earth!
-
Sigh. I wish I had a laptop so I could get my fix when I'm not home!
But regardless, holy crap thank you!
-
I was just wandering around in Adventure mode, looking for the entrance to a cave, when suddenly.. well, here's some lines from the log:
Many large roaches have been disturbed.
You have discovered a river.
The pike has drowned.
The carp has drowned.
The carp has drowned.
The carp has drowned.
It is noon.
The carp has drowned.
The sea lamprey has drowned.
Regardless of being really bad-ass fighters, the fish don't seem to excel similarly at some other stuff, like.. breathing.
This only happened once, in a certain area, and I couldn't reproduce it. Not that I really tried that much.
EDIT: Don't really know why I didn't post this in the Bug reports forum, but.. well, it's too late now.

Well, I have a laptop, downloaded the version just as I was leaving for work. I don't think a day's work could be less productive than this one. :D
Job well done, Toady One.
-
Well, I've been lurking for the longest time but just HAD to register to post this! All Hail Toady One the Great! :D Of course, there is no doubt that I will fail repeatedly for the next few months, but that doesn't matter. Losing in 3D is even more fun! ;)
-
Oh man, this is confusing.
The learning curve has been made into a learning wall.
-
I say this with absolute Certainty, dwarf fortress and spore are the best games I or anyone else have ever seen.
Toady and threetoe certainly know how to make an excellent game.
