I'll start, I want a sword that guides me (like how a guide works when you ask someone to guide you) and knows directions to any place I ask it. (oh yeah, and it should be able to talk)I imagine the rng won't be so forgiving.
I think I may have missed some announcement, do tell more on these artifacts..."NPC created artifacts" is ostensibly the theme of the next arc. Although in typical DF development fashion it requires "Creation of the Universe" to get it going.
From context, I'm assuming that artifacts will have a slight chance to be magical when they're made.
I'd think a levitating weapon that defends against enemies would be pretty cool, or maybe a statue that guards the entrance of my fort.
Oh, you could randomize it. "Can only be destroyed by dipping into the tears of a Gorlak". "Indestructible so long as the wielder has no arms."...
Then, there would be quests that elven druids could give you, such as "Destroy The Golden Ring".
The Golden Ring could "only be destroyed by dipping it into magma". Hang on, I have a deja vu...
Mentioned this already in "future of the fortress", but I myself would really love to see doomsday artifacts and associated crazy cults (potentially made by the player) seeking them out.hehe, I agree.
Would also be cool if the way it would go about causing an apocalypse would be randomized for each artifact (potentially multiple in each world - so if you were sadistic enough you could seek out each artifact and unleash them all at once) - so you could have the regular "colony drop" where the moon falls on the world, wiping out most of the aboveground population and turning most of the world into a Mordor-like wasteland; a zombie apocalypse that would have every named dead figure rise from the dead as super-powered zombies in their appropriate site, preferring to target those who killed them; or a "Day of Lavos" type of apocalypse where a massive toad-shaped beast rises from the ground in a remote part of the world and showers everything with a fiery rain; or something a lot more complex like Ragnarok, with a massive battle resulting in deities actually showing themselves in a physical form, natural disasters, and gigantic beasts running rampant.

And unto this, Droggarth! Destined to wear the jeweled crown of The Aquiline Dominions upon a troubled brow. It is I, his chronicler, who alone can tell you of his saga. Let me tell you of the days of high adventure!

One word. Voodoo dolls. So you can twist and turn, and stab and slash something without getting your hands dirty
I would like an necromancy artifact that allows one corpse to merge with another and continue to merge with more corpses and build one giant mega-corpse like thisI think that's gonna be available even without artifact use - one of the planned, not-yet-implemented night creature types are undead constructs with mismatched limbs, sutures and grafted weapons.
And you can throw it and it returns.
The +9 Mjölner of Returning (+fly, invoking casts Lighting Bolt)
... Just out of the blue some of the fingers on your right hand just twist and break or you start projectile vomiting with only some vague sense that you have an enemy somewhere in the land of such and such that is working dark magic against you...
Oh Jesus, I swear if we get an artifact that stops time I'll be so happy.... Just out of the blue some of the fingers on your right hand just twist and break or you start projectile vomiting with only some vague sense that you have an enemy somewhere in the land of such and such that is working dark magic against you...
Protagonist: "This must be the work of an enemy stand!"
How about an instrument that, when played, makes everyone who listens not need to eat, sleep, or drink? Then they could keep listening to it until the day they die.I don't know why but this is giving me some type of idea for a horrible SCP-like "imposter" version of such an artifact - except instead of giving you a positive effect by making you not require sustenance or sleep, it does something really horrible, i.e you don't require sleep but your need for eating and drinking increases tenfold - when you're not eating/drinking you rapidly lose fat in your body, also your bones and muscles get weaker, to the point you become a shrivelled husk that eventually loses all mobility and suffocates to death.

Does anyone know Dominions 4? That game had a list of interesting magical items. (http://www.illwinter.com/dom/itemmanual.pdf) (Start from the bottom, that's where the interesting ones are).
One of my favourite ones is the Lightless Lantern which helps your mages research magic and find secrets, but to the invisible demons and horrors from other dimensions the lantern shines like a beacon and attracts them.
Eh, that seems a bit overpowered...Wouldn't that make it go from "overpowered" to "way too situational and imprecise"? Tbh I think I prefer the OP version myself.
You need to reduce the scope, or apply more conditions to reign it in...
...
How about this, a sword that can lead you to a person's exact location...
Provided that said person's blood has been smeared upon it at a previous point in time...

Oh derp, I misinterpreted what you said - thought you meant it could lead you to a person's location if their blood was smeared on the location itself...only later did I realize you meant the sword. Sorry, too much trying to fix modding issues the past few days.
Sit_Rom, why you gotta put an ellipses after every sentence?
I'd be fine with that aswellI'll start, I want a sword that guides me (like how a guide works when you ask someone to guide you) and knows directions to any place I ask it. (oh yeah, and it should be able to talk)I imagine the rng won't be so forgiving.
A pigtail sock that talks and knows the directions to any kobold cave is more likely.

I myself would love to see something like the classic tenleague boots: boots that shrink or grow to fit any size, and allow the wearer to run incredibly fast.
Also, a sack of eternal space would be interesting- especially if, say, it were undroppable and had a chance of eating the user if left empty for too long.
I seem to remember a bag that had teeth in it and would only allow one person to take items from it - anybody else loses a few inches off their fingers. Maybe Harry Potter?
This seems like a "bad" version of that.
I'm really looking forward to the looms of fate toady mentioned.
A guitar with strings of fate would be pretty badass to shred with too.
Pretty sure there's a nommy sort of bag that isn't the Luggage.I seem to remember a bag that had teeth in it and would only allow one person to take items from it - anybody else loses a few inches off their fingers. Maybe Harry Potter?

Are you sure it was abag? You might be thinking about the Luggage (http://discworld.wikia.com/wiki/The_Luggage) from discworld.

The heirloom sock, is obviously required, and it should be the main cause of wars in the history of the world, that would be hilarious.
The heirloom sock, is obviously required, and it should be the main cause of wars in the history of the world, that would be hilarious. That's what I was thinking too. Finding some sort of artifact that's caused countless wars throughout my world's history and hiding it somewhere in the lowest cavern level is a task I'd really like to undertake. I'd feel like a real hero, sacrificing himself to hide The Orange Balls, a sheep wool sock, deep within the bowels of the earth so nobody could ever reclaim it, lest another war caused by men's/elves'/dwarves'/goblins' greed should erupt once again.
How about living armor?Fairly decent against steel weapons. Digests owner over time.
i would like to see armor or accesories that add random tags like amulet of [NOPAIN] or ring of [CAN_LEARN]
More of a half-serious half-joking suggestion, but since I've been playing lots of Doom mods lately, I'd like to see a BFC (Big Fucking Crossbow) artifact that is more than twice the size of a regular crossbow and turns bolts into explody magic projectiles.
If we are speaking combat, a weapon (or a token attached to a kind of artifact) that can kill ghosts would be pretty good too, useful in adventure mode also if ghosts ever get more coverage outside of fortress mode. A enemy you can dodge through but under normal circumstances cannot hit.Might as well combine that with the instrument idea - have an instrument that when played, puts nearby ghosts to rest.
Either that or handheld instruments that can explode heads at whom the music is directed at.
I don't know if it has been a house rule or not because I never DM, but in my group's old D&D campaigns and current Pathfinder campaigns, magic items resize to fit the creature equipping them.i would like to see armor or accesories that add random tags like amulet of [NOPAIN] or ring of [CAN_LEARN]
That would be sweet. Just a pity it requires a creature to have [EQUIP] to pick up the intelligence gauntlet of its own accord and be the right size for it, you could have a intelligent and domesticated pet drunarian/orangutan to work in the library (too much terry pratchett on my mind)
Meh, "every single artifact resizes itself" seems bland. Why not have some of each? Mystical amulets that can fit around a rat's or an ogre's neck, or a huge set of armour only trolls can wear, or a tiny sword that's excellent in dwarven hands but too tiny for humans to wield with ease.Currently Backpacks, Quivers, rings, and other such Accessories(amulets, bracelets, Etc.) are One-size-fits-all.
