Title: BSF (not)Live Strategy game signups, reports, and discussion (Turn 12)
Post by: SHAD0Wdump on September 19, 2009, 09:02:29 pm
Alright, the BSF Strategy is ready for recruits.

This game was played live over my (http://www.ustream.tv/channel/shad0wdump-s-world-of-horrors) Ustream feed. It now is done over PMs.

Over PM you may discuss game rules,do research, work with me to create your ships, and view the sector map.

Battles will be shown here in screenshot montages.

A general idea of the game is located in the following chat log...
http://pastebin.com/f7c8d2570

Actual, vital to know rules are here... (I probably should have had this to begin with, beware as I just entered rules without much organization)
http://pastebin.com/f3f94cbbd

Updated rules

Reboot starts here:
http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=42172.90

Forum based turns:
I am now allowing players to perform their turns directly in this thread, all turn info will be posted in spoilers with a map, after looking over these details simply make a research request then move ships/make construction orders/even make ship designs through this method as well even though it may be a bit slower than a fully interactive turn via the livestream channel.

You can ask questions in this thread and I'll give answers.

Current roster:
(up to four per game only,at least two)
-Redwarrior0
-cerapa
-DFnewb
-Myroc

Wait list(later games):

Yay finally a GOOD BSF Meta-Game and not one with Rebels, and some crazy aliens, and where turns are a week and only a very special select few can join as "Fleet Commanders"

By the message above I mean the one on http://www.wyrdysm.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=25&sid=050a2c066616285e9aae016d2133771a (http://www.wyrdysm.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=25&sid=050a2c066616285e9aae016d2133771a)

Alright,we've got four...

I'd like Volatar to get back with me but as for now,I say lets get this show started. Actual battles won't commence immediately so we can start doing management.

My feed will be up,I'll get some turns done depending on player activity, while I'm waiting for the players I'll play some other games.

In general... SWS just pisses me off.

Specifically he had a streak of particularly nasty moderation and I decided I'm done with that BS,so I went and tried to martyr myself against his discouraging manners.

Basically I went angry rooster against the farmer's associate. Or some metaphor of that type.

First turn Report:

The four players have made their first turns, they have named their systems, designed ships, and made their starting orders.

The system names are thus:

-Migar(DFnewb)
-Pio-Alions(Johbson)
-Safehold(Volatar)
-Valhalla(Myroc)

(colored circles represent system control, colored tick marks represent fleet presence(basically ships or stations in the sector without system control),D-1/2/3 represents asteroid density level)

As you can see,Johbson and Volatar have moved into their gamma sectors(at this stage it is rather obvious they have done so using their constructors)

In the design catagory,it appears DFnewb is going for a zerg rushing tactic, reason being he has a extremely cheap ship design called the 'raptor',and to add to the threat he has a minimum cost production bay station as well. So expect him to be pumping out the little buggers in short order.
He also appears to have warp technology in mind for the future,as he has a warp beacon ship, again at minimum cost.

Johbson seems to be taking a middling aproach to warfare with a somewhat lightly armed ship, not quite as cheap but a little tougher than DFnewb's raptors,he also has a particularly beefy and multi-purpose station design capable of sector control, mining,AND self defense via a multi-gun turret and a PD. So expect his sectors to be a wee bit hard to crack if he has those plopped down.

Volatar has perhaps the most powerful and resource efficiant warship at the moment,he also has a tough, but unarmed station capable of sector control at his disposal, both ships cost 2000 cash so he is using every penny when he buils these, possibly a smart move but he may find himself without those wee bits of cash for emergencies.

Myroc currently has a pretty strong warship availible to him, cheaper then Volatar's but not too shabby. He too has created a simi-tough sector control station, with double PD.

That's the report,I'd like to close this post with a reminder to try to stay active and aware of whom's turn it is,this time we are waiting for DFnewb.

Second turn Report:

Turn two has been completed.

Again, for your convenience the names and colors for each faction will be displayed.
-Migar(DFnewb)
-Pio-Alions(Johbson)
-Safehold(Volatar)
-Valhalla(Myroc)

(colored circles represent system control, colored tick marks represent fleet presence(basically ships or stations in the sector without system control),D-1/2/3 represents asteroid density level)

DFnewb and Myroc have now moved into their gamma sectors.

DFnewb has developed a new 'Death Bomb' which is a high HP suicide ship. Presumibly to clear out potential problems in hard to crack systems. He has also developed a deep belt mining station capable of sector control and mining, this station is capable of being placed in even the core sectors, rather expensive though.

Johbson has made research into bubble shielding, which may suggest that he is going into a more tank-like strategy for his larger ships.

There really doesn't seem to be anything notable with Volatar for now, just building up.

Myroc has made the startling and potentially threatening advancement to inter-system missiles, these are capable of traveling through the jumplines to a target destination and causing a massive detonation which can potentially destroy everything in the sector!
Fortunately, they are extremely expensive and may be stymied using point defense.

Once again,DFnewb,your up!

Turn 03 Report:

-Migar(DFnewb)
-Pio-Alions(Johbson)
-Safehold(Volatar)
-Valhalla(Myroc)

(colored circles represent system control, colored tick marks represent fleet presence(basically ships or stations in the sector without system control),D-1/2/3 represents asteroid density level)

Volatar has seized control of his gamma quadrent,he will be the first to have a hightened income.

DFnewb has developed a larger warship called the T-rex,this ship has a rather large collection of machineguns to overload it's enemies with lead,he has also created upgraded versions of most of his ships.
In the realm of research,he has developed a method to steal technologies from opposing factions.

Johbson has made the first design to make use of bubble shield technology, and boy it is a bruiser, with 600 hitpoints and a point defense weapon,it can tank through most foes in a 1 on 1 without breaking a sweat.

Volatar has researched stronger hulls, and has designed a new mining station.

Myroc is the first to design a carrier, his deploys quad machinegun armed 'Berzerk' drones. He has also researched bonus system control income.

Once again,DFnewb,your up!

Would he get his empire back?

Also should someone PM Johbson or something to get his attention?

Some of you may know that there has been a second BSF strategy occurring during the span of this one, this second game has had several tweeks to the rulesets, and even a few major changes, these changes have fixed several issues with the un-altered game such as the lack of reason or incentive to build large ships consisting of many sections, and the pointlessness of defense platforms.(ships were just as effective and could move)

I've come across the consideration of re-booting the current game, however this would require either major re-designing of the current ships and costs(creating many inconsistencies),or simply restarting altogether.(but all progress would be lost)

I could re-boot it with only throwing away the ship designs and leaving people to start with their current tech if so desired.

I'd like every participating player's opinion on this.

Reboot Turn 01 Report:

(the following list represents the order of turns)
-Midgar(DFnewb)
-Valhalla(Myroc)
-Safehold(Volatar)
-Pio-Alions(Sofia)

(colored circles represent system control, colored tick marks represent fleet presence(basically ships or stations in the sector without system control),D-1/2/3 represents asteroid density level)

All players have moved into their beta systems, except for Myroc who has moved into his gamma.

DFnewb has developed a single station, yet no ships as of yet, he also has made no developments in research.

Myroc has re-designed his main ship, the fenrir, and the Muspelheim, his main station. He has also made research into stronger hulls.

Volatar has also researched stronger hulls, and has re-designed his main warship, the Sting, this time it comes with two twin blaster turrets!
He also has designed a station with habitat module, production bay(nanobot based!(just for fluff people, no bonuses)), and its own twin blaster turret.

Sofia has researched deadly Vulcan technology, this is of course a large and expensive gatling gun capable of overloading PD and peppering its targets. She has already designed a relatively inexpensive ship to haul this weapon into battle.
She also has designed a station with a habitat module,no guns though.

This time the report is late, and it is now Myroc's turn.

Title: Re: BSF Live Strategy game signups, reports, and discussion
Post by: SHAD0Wdump on November 26, 2009, 02:56:57 am
I still have yet to get Volatar to take his turn, but a new problem has arisen.

Livestream has changed it's layout, and for the time being it seems chat is unavailable(at least I can't seem to access the chat on the channel page).

So it seems this may be on a forced hold until they get their act together or I find a new streaming service.

Nevermind, seems I was clicking on the wrong thing... We will see how this layout plays out.

EDIT: seems to work alright, criticizations include the fact I now have ads, bugger all... You also have to take yourself out of the chat room to view the library of on-demand videos, so that is less intuitive...

Also, it is now Sofia's turn, I am also going to allow 'low interactivity turns', see the first post for details.
Title: Re: BSF Live Strategy game signups, reports, and discussion
Post by: SHAD0Wdump on November 28, 2009, 08:37:22 am
I have now discovered a effective equation for balancing weapons with clipsize, having done so I have rebalanced accordingly, this has effected two of the starter weapons...

-The Pulse Gun now costs 300.
-The Autocannon still costs 450, but has regained its submunitions.

The rules have been updated.

Reboot Turn 02 Report:

(colored circles represent system control, colored tick marks represent fleet presence(basically ships or stations in the sector without system control),D-1/2/3 represents asteroid density level)

DFnewb has beaten everyone to the punch and seized control of his beta sector,he has also moved into his gamma.

DFnewb has once again come short on research sadly. However he has developed a rather excessively powerful defense station, a higher capacity shipyard, a warp beacon ship, and a suicide fighter.

Myroc has boosted his economic capacity, and designed a large warship with a built-in production bay. His fenrir ships are also coming off the line.

Volatar hasn't made much progress of note, just building up.

Sofia has developed bubble shield technology, and has designed a large warship featuring it as well as three of those menacing vulcans.

Greif this turn took a while...

Reboot Turn 03 Report:

(the following list represents the order of turns)
-Midgar(DFnewb)
-Valhalla(Myroc)
-Safehold(Volatar)
-Pio-Alions(Sofia)

(colored circles represent system control, colored tick marks represent fleet presence(basically ships or stations in the sector without system control),D-1/2/3 represents asteroid density level)

Sofia has control of her beta sector.

DFnewb has Boosted his economy via research, and developed a massively powerful mothership, with 500 base HP, five twin blaster turrets, two quad dumbfire turrets, 7 point beams, 6(!) construction modules, and a staggering 11(!!!) fighter bays, this ship will likely slaughter anything in it's path while securing sectors with its mighty construction ability. Of course, DFnewb's new supership will cost him a massive amount of cash and time to complete.

Myroc's world has been boring this turn, he built stuff and not much else.

Volatar has, like Sofia before him, developed bubble shielding.

Sofia has improved her economical status and has designed two new defense platforms, charmingly named the Kitty Flak 27 and 88.

It is now DFnewb's turn.

*deep breath*

Okay... I CAN salvage this...

First, I need a new player to take over Volatar's forces...

Second, I'm going to have to revert from Volatar's livestream being the place for battles to be seen(this was a problematic choice anyway due to off-site requirements), and instead take screenshots of the battles, this part might be for the best.

You could try formalising the days and times for each player to try to get regular turns. You could make alternating weekly schedules with 6 livestream sessions per week. If someone misses one you can switch to the next weeks schedule, of course, I am probably overthinking this...

Reboot Turn 04 Report:

(the following list represents the order of turns)
-Midgar(DFnewb)
-Valhalla(Myroc)
-Safehold(Redwarrior0)
-Pio-Alions(Janet (previously, Sofia))

(colored circles represent system control, colored tick marks represent fleet presence(basically ships or stations in the sector without system control),D-1/2/3 represents asteroid density level)

DFnewb has seized control of his gamma quadrant, suffice it to say, he is by far making the most money. Myroc has taken his as well. Finally Redwarrior has taken his beta.

DFnewb has Boosted his construction speed, designed an additional low-cost production facility, upgraded his super building facility to 4 production bays, and of course is expanding like a virus.

Myroc has once again failed his research sadly, but he has developed a new defense platform.

Redwarrior0 Has developed advanced point beam technology, and created a advanced version of the sting with added bubble shield and machineguns.

Janet hasn't done much more than expansion.

It is now DFnewb's turn.

Reboot Turn 05 Report:

(the following list represents the order of turns)
-Midgar(DFnewb)
-Valhalla(Myroc)
-Safehold(Redwarrior0)
-Pio-Alions(Janet)

(colored circles represent system control, colored tick marks represent fleet presence(basically ships or stations in the sector without system control),D-1/2/3 represents asteroid density level)

Janet has seized control of her gamma, and Myroc has moved into his Beta.

DFnewb has failed in research this turn, but has developed several new ships, a generic blaster ship, a carrier, and a point defense ship, all 4000 in cash. He has also created a small missile fighter, a pure mining station, and has replaced 5 of the fighter bays on his super ship with a warp drive and beacon(thank goodness my framerate will be happier).

Myroc has finally succeeded on his tech roll and has increased his production speed, he has also designed a heavy production station(3 bays), and a light mining vessel with machine gun defense.

Redwarrior0 Upgraded his mining speed, developed a point defense ship, a mining vessel, and a new habitat station.

Janet Researched repeating artillery technology, which is a a weapon that can out-range every other weapon in the game as present, it is also somewhat cheaper than one would be led to believe, half that of the vulcan.
She has designed the Kitty Cannon, a large ship carrying a whopping large quad repeating artillery turret and a bubble shield, a very deadly seige ship.
Finally she has also designed the Crab Factory, a massive station with five production bays, more than any other station as of yet.
Naturally the ship and station are quite expensive.

It is now DFnewb's turn.

Reboot Turn 06 Report:

Back from the dead baby!

(the following list represents the order of turns)
-Midgar(DFnewb)
-Valhalla(Myroc)
-Safehold(Redwarrior0)
-Pio-Alions(Janet)

(colored circles represent system control, colored tick marks represent fleet presence(basically ships or stations in the sector without system control),D-1/2/3 represents asteroid density level)

Redwarrior0 has seized control of his gamma.

DFnewb's research has brought him further improvements in construction speed. Which he has made good use of this turn.

Myroc researched increased construction speed as well.

Redwarrior0 has researched... Extra research, which gives him a low chance of gaining another tech at the cost of 3000 cash.
He has also designed a new defense platform.

Janet failed research this turn, but has a new ship design, the Hellcat.
This monsterous behemoth has 650 base HP and twin bubble shields(yes you can do that). For armament the Hellcat has a twin repeating artillery turret, a twin vulcan turret, a rear facing vulcan turret, two additional non-turret vulcans, and four autocannons. This ship is likely to be the spearhead of any major attack.

It is now DFnewb's turn.

When a ship is destroyed, it makes a explosion like that, it's just that I caught it at it's peak.

And constructors create stations. These constructors are the stock variant everyone gets, they don't have to use them but they give people something to start with.

Reboot Turn 07 Report:

(the following list represents the order of turns)
-Midgar(DFnewb)
-Valhalla(Myroc)
-Safehold(Redwarrior0)
-Pio-Alions(Janet)

(colored circles represent system control, colored tick marks represent fleet presence(basically ships or stations in the sector without system control),D-1/2/3 represents asteroid density level)

DFnewb expanded into Core Theta, which was responded shortly by an attack from Safehold space, Redwarrior now watches over Theta.

DFnewb failed his research, but has developed a new version of his ever so popular 'habiminer' that can be placed in sectors with a density of 2, and mine it fully.

Myroc upgraded his dumbfire missiles with tracking capabilities, basically meaning normal missiles. They are still slow, but they are far more accurate now and still cost a pittence of 150 a piece.
He also has designed a massive warship of his own, the Jormungandr(previous Jormungandr has been re-named to Valkyrie). This ship sports four quad missile turrets, 20(!) machineguns, four point rockets, and has two fighter bays deploying Einherjars. These fighters carry two missile launchers and a pulse gun.
this ship is the cheapest 'big ship' as of yet, but still packs a mean punch. And the fighters are easily the most superior of their kind as of yet.

Redwarrior0 researched reduced module costs. He attempted a second research but did not succeed. He has also developed a 3 production station.

Janet decreased her ship costs. Also, anal fish.

It is now DFnewb's turn.

Just for fun, I checked how much an 81-section hull would cost. 162000. With 2000 Health. Note that, unfortunately for Shadow, I plan to design and deploy the Deus-class epicship.

Also, some questions:

Is there a formula for the cost of fighter bays/fighters? If so, what is it?
Are there limits on how much a fighter can load, other than the section/module limitations?
What's the formula for weapon price?
What's the formula for bubble shield health? It's six times the ship's health, right?
What are ordinary research chances?
How soon will the next turn be up?
Title: Re: BSF Live Strategy game signups, reports, and discussion (Turn 7)
Post by: SHAD0Wdump on April 14, 2010, 05:34:11 pm
Is there a formula for the cost of fighter bays/fighters? If so, what is it?
Fighters are treated as full ships in terms of cost, but HP and weapon damage is modified to 1/5th effectiveness.
Are there limits on how much a fighter can load, other than the section/module limitations?
No, they are basically tiny ships, however no PD or modules are allowed.
What's the formula for weapon price?
All weapons are balanced by DPF(damage per frame), the DPF for a weapon is determined by:
 (Damage*clipsize)/(firerate*clipsize+reload-firerate)
Or simply by:
 Damage / reload
If the weapon has a clipsize of 1(blasters for example).

The weapon's DPF is compared to the blaster's DPF of approximately .48 to determine the base cost. Any other unusual features (submunitions, explosive radius, PD negation, etc.) adds to the cost via judgement call.
Then the cost is reduced by a weapons research bonus, every successful research involving weaponry(or PD as well) reduces the cost of new weapons by 50, of course the cost can't go too low, but that is again subject to judgement call.
What's the formula for bubble shield health? It's six times the ship's health, right?
Actually x3.
What are ordinary research chances?
1/2, as researches are failed the chances for following researches go up to 2/3, then 5/6, then if your unlucky enough to fail a third time it's guaranteed.
Every successful research reduces the chances in a similar manner until the chances are back at 1/2.
As for Redwarrior's research ability, it is fixed at 1/3 and never changes.
How soon will the next turn be up?
Still trying...

Remember, research can effect just about anything, so those bubble shields for example could be modified, or the fighters, and so on.

Reboot Turn 08 Report:

(the following list represents the order of turns)
-Midgar(DFnewb)
-Valhalla(Myroc)
-Safehold(Redwarrior0)
-Pio-Alions(Janet)

(colored circles represent system control, colored tick marks represent fleet presence(basically ships or stations in the sector without system control),D-1/2/3 represents asteroid density level)

Myroc has finally seized his Beta, all players now own their particular systems fully.

DFnewb researched ship construction from construction modules, this combined with his earlier researches into faster construction results in ship production from ships at the rate of a station mounted production bay.

Myroc Failed his research this turn. Also, due to a inherant flaw in the point rocket PD weapon, his will be replaced by point MGs. A special form of particle gun with a machinegun style that keeps with his ballistic theme.

Redwarrior0 succeeded on both of his researches this turn. This resulted in beamers and heavy beamers. Beamers are a energy beam that completely bypasses PD and strikes instantly, doing damage over the period of a second. Heavy beamers are a higher damage variant with slightly enhanced range.
With these enhancements, Redwarrior has designed his first 'big ship'. The Dragontooth carries a triple heavy beamer turret, two dual beamer turrets, two twin blaster turrets(one of which is facing backwards), and 6 enhanced point beams. But most notable is the triple bubble shields!
The Dragontooth clearly represents Redwarrior's vastly advanced technology. It also looks bad-ass.

Janet Researched her own beam weapon... But this ain't no weak little light show, no, THIS is a LASER. The thing spews forth death in the form of a large beam of light and lightning, and is so powerful it even sends forth a explosion right out of the barrel. It is quite expensive though, the most expensive weapon as of yet.
She has designed a light ship carrying this monsterous weapon. It isn't well defended but is rather cheap for what amounts to Dr. Doom's LASER satellite.

It is now DFnewb's turn.

That SECRET PROJECT is for the main gun of the SAS Deus, to be researched sometime in the future. And no, I don't feel like getting out a calculator or figuring out the flagship cost.

By the way, how much does Janet's laser cost?

Typically a sprite for BSF is 80x80 pixels with black border. Going above is possible, but if you can keep it within 80x80 that would be best.
Make sure to have that black border, failure to do so will result in issues. Everything else is pretty much up to you.

Reboot Turn 09 Report:

(the following list represents the order of turns)
-Midgar(DFnewb)
-Valhalla(Myroc)
-Safehold(Redwarrior0)
-Pio-Alions(Janet)

(colored circles represent system control, colored tick marks represent fleet presence(basically ships or stations in the sector without system control),D-1/2/3 represents asteroid density level)

Myroc bullied his way into Safehold Beta. Redwarrior in turn seized control of Theta.

DFnewb improved his constructor's ability to produce ships, now they are even faster than his stations.

Myroc researched 'Munin Scanners', which allows him to see everything in adjacent sectors to ones he fully controls, even to the point of giving him full technical readouts of all ships and stations present and even under construction in said sectors.
This pretty much explains why Myroc attacked Safehold Beta. This basically told him that Redwarrior was weak there, and if he didn't attack right away he would be faced with much less favorable odds.

Redwarrior0 researched improved logistics, allowing a extra movement per turn, he also improved his production speed.
He designed a new ship, the Thermopylae. This is a simple ship sporting 6 machineguns, nothing else. (and the name is gonna stick Warrior, because you didn't specify a name)

Janet failed her research, and not much else is going on besides building up.

It is now DFnewb's turn.

Reboot Turn 10 Report:

Cerapa has taken over Janet's forces.

(the following list represents the order of turns)
-Midgar(DFnewb)
-Valhalla(Myroc)
-Safehold(Redwarrior0)
-Pio-Alions(Cerapa)

(colored circles represent system control, colored tick marks represent fleet presence(basically ships or stations in the sector without system control),D-1/2/3 represents asteroid density level)

Redwarrior0 has moved into Omega.

DFnewb developed tesla technology, a very powerful lightning projector that is not effected by point defense, fires at a respectible rate, has a short-ish range, and costs 1k a piece.
He has also developed the Goliath, a hardy ship sporting a twin tesla turret and a healthy array of point beams.

Myroc failed research, but is building up a storm. Redwarrior should be glad he didn't decide to invade further at least.

Redwarrior0 also failed research, but has done stuff.

Cerapa developed additional system cash, providing Janet's old forces with a much needed economical boost. He also designed a new defense platform, carrying one LASER, triple point defense rating, and a bubble shield. Pretty hardy stuff. It is named the Fat Cat.
He also made a mining station, named the Mudcrab.

It is now DFnewb's turn.

.

This is a brilliant idea. Though we would need to have some sort of ship movement priority so ships from two different sides don't pass by each other into the opposing system etc.

The fleet whose slowest ship is fastest gets to decide which spot the battle takes place on?
Engine technology would decide ship speed where possible but ships with more sections would be slower than ships with fewer sections?

Or the GM could just flip a coin...

(colored circles represent system control, colored tick marks represent fleet presence(basically ships or stations in the sector without system control),D-1/2/3 represents asteroid density level)(purple disk-things represent anomalies)

Redwarrior has seized Omega. Also an anomaly has appeared in Pio-Alions Beta.

DFnewb failed research, but designed two new low cost ships.
The Frostwolf is a three section ship packing a single tesla and point beam.
The Sylph is another three section carrying 6 dumbfires and one point beam as well.

Myroc Increased his per-system cash flow, and designed MKII versions of his Fenrir, Valkyrie, and even Jormungandr ships. These new versions sport heavy point defense and even pulse turrets in addition to their previous armament.

Redwarrior0 Researched another research enhancement, this time allowing him to increase his research bonus by 1 for 1000. Like his previous research enhancement, this is limited to once per turn.

Cerapa increased his production speed, yet another needed boost.

It is now DFnewb's turn.

Post by: Volatar on June 15, 2010, 01:20:16 am
I talk to Shad0w a lot about his rules, so I will answer the ones of these I can.

Question: Do turrets keep us at a 45 rotation limit or do we have a 360 turret platform?

Turrets have a 270 degree rotation limit.

Question: Can you research anything? For instance, could I research a stronger material for hulls that makes them stronger by 1/3 and then research a way to manufacture them cheaper so they cheaper by 1/4 of the cost? Could I research a shield and then research a way to make it regenerate?

All but the last one is possible. Shields yes, regenerating ones no. No one has figured out how to do that in the BSF engine yet.

Question: When you mention station PD and asteroid fields and density, are you talking about the stations density (how many "levels" of shapes you have) or asteroid field density?

Asteroid field density.

Question: Can we research any type of weapon (well, weapons that the game mechanics will permit), or can we only elaborate on the five you chose?

Any weapon you can conceive.
Title: Re: BSF Live Strategy game signups, reports, and discussion (Turn 11,Battle 3)
Post by: SHAD0Wdump on June 15, 2010, 01:20:30 am
We start off knowing about 3 of the following:
Blaster
PlasmaPulse
Dumb-fire Rocket
Machine Gun
Auto Cannon

As well as one of the following:
Flak
Particle Gun
Point Beam
Point Rockets That one is bugged, so not any more.
I show the differences in the quote.
Question: Do turrets keep us at a 45 rotation limit or do we have a 360 turret platform?
Turrets on ships get 270 coverage.(or 135 in the edit field)
Turrets on stations have a full 360 degree coverage.
Question: Can space stations be yarded or scrapped for cash?
Research it I guess...
Question: Can you research anything? For instance, could I research a stronger material for hulls that makes them stronger by 1/3 and then research a way to manufacture them cheaper so they cheaper by 1/4 of the cost? Could I research a shield and then research a way to make it regenerate?
Yes. All of it. Though I may make changes for the sake of balance.
Question: When you mention station PD and asteroid fields and density, are you talking about the stations density (how many "levels" of shapes you have) or asteroid field density?
Asteroid fields.
Question: Can we research any type of weapon (well, weapons that the game mechanics will permit), or can we only elaborate on the five you chose?
You can suggest anything, I'll determine if it is possible, then ask what kind of modifiers, details and such. I have a pretty precise method of balancing weapons.
Question: Can we ally with someone? If we can, do they still get a 1/2ed mining penalty if they are mining in an allied area?
Hmm... I never considered mechanic changes. Although technology trade has happened once.(Not in the game you see here)
It may be a possibility, but good luck seeing it happen.
Question: Do flag ships take the same amount of time to build as their non flagship counterpart, or do they have a time deduction as well?
The time to produce them is also reduced.
Question: Can we yard/scrap flag ships and modify/create a new one?
I guess?
Question: How do you determine how much fighter bays cost?
Fighter bays cost exactly as much as the fighter design. Fighter designs cost the exact same as if they were a normal ship, but statistics are lowered.(or hightened in the case of speed, turning, and accel)
Question: What does +.5 mean for mining bays? 50% more profit? $.5 more profit? .5% more profit?
I don't exactly know why I have it in like that... I really should update those rules again.

Well call me a innovator... Just slap a microscopic nanomatrix with a range of only a few pixels smack dab on the center of the shield.(where the arrow points)

Well.... it's better than nothing. If your shield is down anyway, your probably fucked. They somehow took out your shield while you were barraging them with constant fire? If you are weak enough to where you can't kill them your current shield less state.... you were done for even if it could regenerate.

You sure about that?

Let's take an 11 section ship. Health 250, costs 2750 for hull.

Add a shield for 2800 (50 + 250*sections) and you now have a 750 health shield.

I would expect most shielded ships to have some armour plating, a few extra sections is a small price to pay, so losing your shield shouldn't be fatal... If you had a multiple-section rotating shield it would help to spread out the damage so that the nano-matrix could, umm, actually that probably wouldn't matter, but you could have a shield breach while maintaining some effectiveness...
Or... Could you have layered shields that contract when they are hit and expand after they have had a chance to repair?

The proper triggers don't exist.

Maybe if you had a series of short-ranged point defences, they could retract the current layer and expand the next when they fired, maybe with some sort of delay... Sigh, just a few more triggers would solve so much...

Maybe you could have a number of shields an obscenely great distance behind the ship, with a trigger to move into position that is interrupted by the current shield, when the current shield goes down(yes, I got this idea from the BSF forum...) the next shield can finish its action and trigger its moving into place. Of course, it would probably be problematic to do that more than once, and it is still finite. Maybe I should just leave the debate to people who actually know what the triggers do...

You peeps may be wondering what happened to this?

Well, as was stated in my stream thread, I moved away from livestream to ustream, unfortunately the transition was rocky, on one hand the camera controls were wonky, and with their producer program, I simply couldn't get stereo mix to work. This has resulted in a bit of a hiatus for this game.
I can do one of three things with this:

-Wait until I find better capture software than EZcap.(you guys can help me out on this)
-Switch over to an entirely forum based system, with moves being done through PMs, this would result in less control over the shipbuilding, but may also make turns easier to do as I and the players will not need to set aside time to perform these turns.
-Abandon the game, and release the ships early for everyone to enjoy.

DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA.  It is the only solution. You need more of it, if you ever hope to survive.

Well, I suggest that current participants get more say, and I have no experience with video-capture or streaming, but it would be nice to see it continue, and if you switched to forum-only then you could switch back if you get the bugs worked out and have a working system if anyone found organising a meeting time to be difficult...

Good news everyone...

I've finally got everything working with Ustream, I can now go back to my usual activities with everyone to watch, less annoying ads will be a strong point. Things will be a little more public however, so expect a few random peeps to show up. I'll handle the unruly with an iron grip if needed...

I'll be pestering Myroc sometime soon so we can hopefully get this thing off the ground again.

Reboot Turn 12 Report:

(the following list represents the order of turns)
-Midgar(DFnewb)
-Valhalla(Myroc)
-Safehold(Redwarrior0)
-Pio-Alions(Cerapa)

(colored circles represent system control, colored tick marks represent fleet presence(basically ships or stations in the sector without system control),D-1/2/3 represents asteroid density level)(purple disk-things represent anomalies)

DFnewb entered Pio-Alions beta and promptly wasted it. He also had his flagship study the anomaly, which turned out to be a wormhole leading into Core Omega!
 Meanwhile, Myroc occupied Iota.

DFnewb researched stock marketing, in which be can bank some of his funds to have them increase his income by a small percentage. However, once banked the money cannot be retrieved.

Myroc Researched Improved Logistics, allowing him to move his ships twice.

Redwarrior0 researched improved logistics again, allowing three movements per turn. Then he threw three constructors one by one into the wormhole in attempts to trigger its collapse, all three failed.

Cerapa improved his production speed once again. He also designed the 'Catfish', this ship carries a single vulcan on a turret, and packs a point beam.

It is now DFnewb's turn.

You know it like hell. You attacked me once, and I'd rather have DFNewb attack you than me.

Actually, I revise my offer. I will pay you 5k to attack Myroc and Cerapa alone for 2 turns.

Well, I'm currently PMing people on the wait list to replace DFnewb.

In other news, I'll attempt to watch my channel's chat room, if you are a player and wish to take your turn, but don't have steam or skype, contact me there.(but I absolutely recommend steam or skype, I'll be able to respond much more quickly)

Today is an exception, Fridays as usual.

DFnewb just rocked Omega. Redwarrior lost 12900 in stations and ships. But more prominently his income took a 8000 per turn hit. DFnewb lost nothing but expendable fighters.

I'm not posting the battle because all that could defend was a lone Dwarf. I did simulate it though so no unfairness.

EDIT: It is now Myroc's turn.

Huh... I thought I mentioned it in here.

My internet has been downgraded, thus I cannot stream. I'd like people's input if I should move to a forum based system, running the turns through PM. Or if I should move on to other projects.
