Stage 0: Wallachian Border
The black carriage have stopped in the middle of the market's plaza. The coachman, dressed in black robe, black beret and brown-tinted glasses looked around; passerby's and citizens and market-goers alike, they all ignored him. Those that glanced at him quickly diverted their eyes away.
"We have arrived in Giurgiu." He said with a raspy voice, knocking on the carriage's wood to shake and wake those that were sleeping inside.
And it was be a strange sleep indeed. They have fell asleep outside Vienna, and it couldn't have passed more than one day - but here they were, in Giurgiu, on the other side of Europe, in just one night.
"You can leave the carriage, now." The coachman rasped, putting down the reins.
//Elizabeth Seras, Klaw, Delekates, Vladamir, Victor and Mayumi Hala are now in game!
-
The hobnails of her boots clunked on the steps as Elizabeth stepped out. She breathed in the Giurgiu air. Cities always smelt foul.
She looked around for where to go.
-
V follows after, stroking the knife on his belt to calm himself down.
"What's with our organization and black? Black carriage, black clothes... it's almost like we want to look like we're going to a funeral."
-
The coachman pulled a small bag from the inside of his coat, as well as a letter with a red seal on it. It bore the snake and letters HA; it was the seal of Hellsing Association.
"Fifty piastre, the currency of the locals." He said, giving the bag to Vladamir. "And a letter to scholar Ibrahim, our informant. The letter went to Elizabth. "He lives in the north of the city, near an eastern orthodox church with red walls. Make sure he receives the letter. The piastre should let you buy some extra supplies. I'm sure Ibrahim can tell you where to find some shopping venues of note."
-
Valdamir nods and takes the bag.
"Right. South of the city, western Orthodox church."
-
Victor was busying himself with observing the locals, before hearing Vladamir's directions.
"Lead on, then."
-
V follows after, stroking the knife on his belt to calm himself down.
"What's with our organization and black? Black carriage, black clothes... it's almost like we want to look like we're going to a funeral."
"It's less than what you'd expect, symbolically. Our dress isn't matched to the usual tradition of black in Europe."
May used her staff as a walking aid, much so to control its weight rather than carry it on her back or on a sling. It helped her keep her balance.
She nodded at Victor's suggestion.
Follow.
-
"Welp, what are we waiting for? Time to go. God bless us on our righteous moves!"
Define where is north, move with group to the north and look for church with red walls.
-
Off to find Ibraham.
-
V follows after, stroking the knife on his belt to calm himself down.
"What's with our organization and black? Black carriage, black clothes... it's almost like we want to look like we're going to a funeral."
"Hides the blood. And it's north of the city. "
Go with the others, yeah.
-
"If they wanted to hide blood, they'd go with red instead."
Vic follows the rest.
-
Thanks to corrections made by Elizabeth, the group actually ventured forth in right direction. People on the streets paid them no attention, except maybe the ever-curious children running around on the streets.
After few minutes, they have reached an eastern church and yes, its walls were red, the paint old and worn in places. There weren't many citizens around, albeit sounds of a mass being conducted could be heard coming from the inside.
The church oversaw a long road that stretched toward the forests outside the city. Few homes were build along the street. Any of them could be Ibrahim's.
-
Start searching. "Go 1by1 or in groups?"
-
"Wait, if he's a scholar he must be in the church. Where else would someone who can actually read and write at a trained level use their skills?"
-
Elizabeth leaned against the wall.
"One by one. I have the only letter, so I'll wait here. We all reconvene here in half an hour, whether you've found him or not. If you get lost," she looked at Vlad, "Wait here and once we've found the man I'll come pick you up."
"Wait, if he's a scholar he must be in the church. Where else would someone who can actually read and write at a trained level use their skills?"
"At a library, or his home. More places than a church have books, you know."
-
"Okay i like this plan!"
Ask any people that i meet about Ibrahim, kindly smiling.
-
Delekates asked an older woman.
"Ibrahim? Ibrahim Barca, that charlatan and fake healer? You make bad choice going to that evil, evil man." She pointed at a small two-story house exactly opposite to the church's doors.
"There he lives, floor above the family of gypsies." The woman glared at Delekates and then walked away.
-
"Or we could just go there. That was... surprisingly simple."
Go knock on Ibrahim's door.
-
And old woman in gaudily colored clothes opened the door. Her hair was reaching the floor and she smelled of garlic. Lots and lots of garlic. She looked at Elizabeth.
"And what you wants?" She spat some as she talked.
-
"It's not like a scholar is some kind of rare herb or a magic sword or something. I would have been surprised if no one knew where he was."
-
The entrance hall was a small room and a staircase was leading onto next floor.
"You here to visit Ibrahim? Fine then." The woman left the main door open and moved into a nearby room. She then closed door leading to that room, leaving the Associates alone.
-
"I hate the smell of garlic." Elizabeth muttered before ascending the stairs.
-
V follows after.
"Tell me about it."
-
Vic follows the two, visibly annoyed by the smell.
-
"A little smile and humanity will be a bit brighter... Lets wait then."
Examine house.
-
The door was open and the group wandered into someone's dwelling without being allowed to.
"Hey! Who do you think you are that you can enter my house without prior invitation??" A young man in glasses and flax robe wandered into the first room, which seems to be a kitchen, with a ceramic tiled oven in the corner.
-
Waits till Elizabeth gives a scroll. Then after - "Who said we dont have one?"
-
May inspected the scenery, appraising the beauty of the unmentioned aesthetics.
-
Elizabeth turned to the man.
"Are you Ibrahim Barca?"
-
The man furrowed his brow.
"That is my name. Now who are you?"
The unmentioned aesthetics of the almost empty kitchen were quite sublime. Maya could notice every single stain of dirt on the table as well as the dust gathering on the oven, two chairs and few empty baskets.
-
"We are from the Hellsing Association. I have a letter for you."
She handed over the letter, then stepped back and crossed her arms.
-
Ibrahim furrowed his brow but said nothing while taking the letter and breaking the seal.
Then he paced about the room, reading the letter. It took him a while.
"Elizabeth Seras, Delekates, Victor, Klaw, Vladamir and Mayumi Hata?" He looked at the group of Associates.
-
"That's all of us, yes." May answered.
She wondered what was on Elizabeth's mind, before noticing what she missed.
...
"Although my surname has a 'T' instead of an 'H'."
-
"And here we are! (Boy smiles) Does letter says something else we need to know? Also coachman who didnt even said his name said that you know where we can buy some "extra" supplies. "
-
"Yes."
-
"I see. The letter says that I am to help you with investigating the strange occurences around the region, and see if that is the work of our nemesis Dracula. Well then."
"There is a small hungarian hamlet north of here, called 'Szőrcsuha', in Wallachia proper. The priest of the village's church promised to keep me in touch about happenings in the countryside but as of the last two weeks I had no word from him. No courier, no letters, no messengers... I've heard strange rumors that the village has been attacked or abandoned, or both. Therefore as Associates, your first task will be going there and finding the priest. If he is gone, find out what happened to him." Ibrahim fixed the glasses on his eyes and pushed them up his nose a bit.
"As for supplies, Pasha, a gypsy woman, is selling various religious, hrm, souvenirs and potions of dubious origins. Grigori, the blacksmith in this part of the town, probably has some blades and knives he could sell to you. There is also gunsmith going by name Kuruc, but he is working with the Ottomans. It might be best to avoid going to him completely. The turks aren't... very catholic. If you know what I mean."
-
"Fifty coins in total, leading to ten each. Unless we have a distinct lack of something important, I do not think it will be necessary for us to spend it immediately.
Who is telling these rumours, Ibrahim?"
-
"Townspeople, of course, who heard it from those passing near Szőrcsuha. That's all I know on topic of these rumors."
-
"Thanks for the welcomers & guides"
To party: "Guess its time to move. Do any of us need something or shall we go?"
-
"I don't really need anything. Now let's get out of here. I can't stand this smell for much longer."
-
May turned her gaze towards Delekates, though her words were towards Elizabeth.
"I'm ready. Waiting on you."
-
Keeps door opened and waits outside.
-
"In case our transport has made itself scarce, it'd be useful to have a map, if you've got one with the hamlet on it. Even then, perhaps. I do not believe any of us are local to the area."
-
"I do not have any maps. Ottomans zealously guard them. It's too much of a strategic boon, and more now that tensions with Russians and Austria are high... Transportation, right." He scratched his chin.
"There's a carriage that goes north to the border of Transylvania and back for five prieste a person. I'm pretty sure he passes near the crossroads that lead to Szőrcsuha. You could ask him to make a stop there." He went into the neighbouring room and returned shortly with a fist full of coins. He placed them in Elizabeth's hand.
"Twenty prieste to cover at least some of the carriage expenses."
-
"My thanks." Elizabeth nodded to Ibrahim and turned to her fellows.
"Let us see if the carriage that brought us is still there, but it is unlikely."
Head back to see if the carriage that brought us is still there.
If so, see if he will take us
If not, take the carriage Ibrahim mentioned to the crossroads
-
Follows Elizabeth.
"Time to go."
-
Victor follows.
-
Moving through the winding streets, and with Elizabeth as unofficial leader of the group, the Associates went back to the plaza were the carriage have stopped. And indeed, it was still there.
The coachman looked down at Elizabeth when she approached.
"Did you find Ibrahim Barca?" The raspyness of his voice was even more evident.
-
"Hey coachman, yea we did it!(enthusiastic)"
-
The coachman took the reins.
"Good. I shall pass the news to the Chapter. Continue working with and for Ibrahim." He snapped at the horses with the reins and the carriage went westwards.
-
((lol, sorry...))
Shout and ask to wait!!!
"HEY WAIT PLEASE!!!"
-
The coachman stopped the horses and leaned toward Delekates.
"Yees?"
-
"We were going to ask if you could transport us to the town we need to go to before you have to head back."
-
"No." He sat straight on his little plank, and with loud 'ha!' he snapped with the reins, and his carriage went on.
-
Vladamir received a pat on his shoulder, courtesy of May.
"Take it this way. It's a good start to get the blood flowing and to get to know the place more."
-
V sighs and rubs his forehead.
"I hate humans..."
-
Elizabeth shrugged.
"At least most humans wait until after they're dead to try eating you.
Now come on. There should be a coach-house near the northern gates, as I have no wish to end up walking the whole distance."
Find the coach-house that hosts the coach Ibrahim mentioned and get a ride to the crossroads.
-
"I am alrdy a bit tired, how about we buy some food on the way to the stable?"
Goes slowly.
-
The coachman was found rather easily. They did offer a ride far north, and didn't say a word about the stop at the crossroads.
Sixty Thirty prieste was spent on the ride.
---
About an hour later, the carriage was slowly going through a dark spruce forest, following a dirt road north. Rarely a bird would chirp and all the noise that was produced came from clattering of the old carriage and it's badly done wheels.
Then the carriage stopped and the coachman knocked on the wall of the carriage.
"There we are, the crossroads to Szőrcsuha." He said and nodded toward a smaller dirt road. There was a moldy signpost pointing in the direction of that offshoot but the writing was unintelligible.
-
"And only 10 pristle in our hands... We should fastly find some work my friends!"
"Thanks for the ride!" - gets out and strethces a bit, "Wheeeew that was pretty long road"
-
"Yes, yes. Now please take your friends so I can go away already." He said, clearly not willing to stay here any moment longer.
-
Victor jumped out of the carriage and turned around, waiting for the others.
-
Get the others out of the carriage like a real gentlewoman would!
Then head over to examine the signpost up close, brushing away any detritus the elements may have deposited on it with my glove.
-
The head of the signpost was so rotten, that it felt off with quiet crack, when May brushed it.
-
The head of the signpost was so rotten, that it felt off with quiet crack, when May brushed it.
May looked at the remains, then at the dirt path, then back at the remains of the remains.
"This is a well-kept dirt path for such an aged landmark. Strange crossroads--but I'm not from here--its just that these would never have happened back in my country."
She looked back at the men.
"So, is this a ladies' first rule, on this path in front of us, or are we all ready to walk for hours on end?"
Go ahead either way :P
-
The group began their march.
The road was winding between the trees for only few lengthy minutes, before a somewhat idyllic village came up in the view. Established in middle of a clearing in the forest, there was a sparkly stream quietly rushing from northwest to northeast. The fields, barren of course so early in the year, were freshly ploughed for some reason.
And there was silence. Foreboding, empty silence. Not a cow did moo, not a laughter was heard from inside the village. No smoke was rising from the chimneys despite the fact it was clearly midday meal time.
The church was standing somewhere to the side and near the stream.
For some reason, large white crosses were painted on its walls, and few wooden crosses were surrounding it.
-
Elizabeth drew her sword.
"Everyone, stay alert. We'll check the church first. And no wandering off alone."
With the group, head to the church and knock on the door.
-
Victor drew his blade as well and followed, keeping an eye out for danger.
-
"May the gods help us" Move towards church cautious
-
V pulls out his throwing knives and follows behind his compatriots.
-
The doors of the buildings have opened. From sheds, houses, pig pens and stables, humanoid zombies began to slowly shamble toward the group! Their low moans intensified when they smelled flesh and blood, and their extended arms clearly pointed at Elizabeth and her companions.
Unfortunately most of the zombies poured onto the main road, blocking easy access to the church.
Fortunately, the zombies moved like turtles in molasses. For now, only four of them were near enough to threaten the group.
Welcome to zombie-ridden Wallachian Countryside, oh noble Associates!
~~Stage 0 Combat: Turn 1!~~ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogUcCAbaqSw)
The church's door opened with a creak and someone's head peeked out, only for the person to hide and the door to close with a thud a second later.

((Grah, sorry, was feeling x_x the whole weekend.
...Also I see a distinct lack of 'can do aimed shots with crossbow' in the character OOC :P ))
May kept her eye on the church, and took aim at the nearest zombie with her crossbow: preferring Woodsman, Tough, Villager (in that order if one falls before the rest), spending next action to reload.
Stay in position.
-
//Note to self: zombies snap like straws, thicken them a bit.

Vladamir, his target gone, idled, as he had no other plan.

Klaw's roll: 1, +3, +3 = 7

Were all undead re-dead already? Nope! A new group have managed to shamble toward the Associates. Along with pair of grotesque, bloated corpses jumping from nearby shed's roof! Textbook examples of Ghouls, these two! (Enemy stats updated!)
