A new sq is Inactive, by default, so those three soldiers will perform Individual Training, from what I read. Indie Training varies based on job skillsets, hauling and some traits, like Activity and Martial.

Turn the squad Active, and reorder its monthly Train Order, from 10, to an odd number, put #1 soldier(mil comm) always in it, so his Teach skill will go up faster.

Active is only way to get duels.

Commander does not choose who trains, we do, by puting a T on a wpn or armor rack. If they have no job, no haul, they will indie train. They will prioritize training over jobs and hauling, when active.

Ive seen improvement in FPS, by turning off the weather in init_d, by exterminating climbstuck monsters with dfHack, and of course by using performance GPU settings.

I imagine limiting interupts may help.

Ive run 2 worldgens at once out to 10000yrs, to admire the different history seed in both.  No crash, there.  My DF games crash to desktop with 160+ dorfs, 50+ pets, 1 caravan or 1 invasion. Especially if it is autumn, leaf falling time or there is a fire burning up a cavern.

I did a small test.

Changeitem on all rocks already loaded into stonefall traps, into slade. The goblin invader came, one stepped on a trap, he got hit, bounced 3x, and left no corpse, unless the GCSs in my moat ate him after he stopped ricochetting. Found an XX(item)XX pile.

Growing Nether-cap trees, +1 z, above the magma sea, on obsidian floor. Their nice cool rootballs go straight into the magma. Hoping for something interesting to report. Each is 1000yr old.

Does anyone know if Glumprong(evil lumber) beds promote nightmares and thus faster book creation?  Last fort I dabbled with a temple to a god of nightmares, and put inside it, a bunkroom full of beds, but nothing really noticeable occured. They were not made of Glumprong, however.

What slade trap item does blunt damage and is the best? Corkscrew? Dont think spiked balls do blunt. I suppose a slade rock trap, would be the penultimate stone to have fall ontop of an unwelcome visitor. I dont think they normally will load metal rocks in traps, however. bummer.

@Buckets, here is a default 17x17, meant to be played, no Perfect World code. Its interesting, in that it reaches 10000yrs, with relative ease, most times with a dwarf civ.  Longer history equals greater evil.

Some highlights:
°A necro raised a titan in yr 488 and the Age changed, immediately back into Myth.
°Enough temp range, for all Vjeks researched diversity, yet still safe in areas of desire.
°Big open caverns(boon for monster slayers/hunters) an teensie weensie space saving lairs. Enough water for a well, but not so much, it bogs down the badguys.
°Cropped subregion to 200 and lowered civ size -7000, for a speedy history tick.

Changing Demon from 1 to a 3, will have the effect of flooding the map with circles(dark fortresses, I think). At the end of all that history, that wasnt what I wanted. Maybe try a 2, if Goblins seem scarce. But anymore will 3+ tends to lopside the civ vs civ balance.

Not sure if I would bother using a seed, from a PW worldgen, on a default worldgen. Lotsa additional trailering code from PW is missing.

Your strategy got me rethinking a default 17x17's worldgen. After 17 versions, and many tweaks, I got something to try. So while watching Gone in 60seconds on DVD, I let a playable frozen volcano roll out, it slowly rolled out to 1050yr.

Some interesting features. A Zombie Dragon titan, unknown force created it. But it failed to score a lair and died in yr5, boo! 0 mtn caves, 17 nonmtn caves. Breeding semimegas, Giant kids, lol. 0 oceans, 0 peaks, 0 rivers, but still got humans. No elves, no mermaids, either. 48.3million events. 3 surface volcanos. 4 animal man societies, no Lion man. Just weak animal man societies. Temperature extremes, with 2x2 mesh on all catagories.

In hindsight generating 48.3 million events, made loading Legends awful. But there is some interesting Titans to research.

Might watch another movie and let another long history roll out, tonight.

Knutor has started worshipping Vjek, God of Adv World Generation.

Tonight, I am rolling some long histories, to obtain size stats on a 1000+ Zombie Dragon(ZD). Its a titan that sometimes appears. Last one died in Legends, at yr5. Bleh! Dragons are the weakest rampagers of all Titans, until they mature.

When I first spotted the ZD in historic entity list, I thought a Necromancer had it as an exotic mount, but it was a Titan dragon, not a cave dragon. An unknown force created it. Has anyone else seen these? Had nothing to do with Necromancers or towers.

Buggy Reproduction for cleanowned.
It is done all in one pause, in any fort with a public tavern, with an entertainer guest with an owned instrument.

Open an entertainer(bard) visitor's inventory
Attempt the Magneto Gambit+.
While instrument sits on the ground, observe it. Owned.
Run cleanowned all. Reobserve it. Still owned. #1 Bug verified.
Run cleanowned scattered. Reobserve it. Instrument cleaned.++

Backup, retry another bard visitor's inventory without Magneto Gambit.
cleanowned all. observe it. Still in bard's inventory, still owned #2 Bug verified.

The -all extension fails on owned instruments in inventory AND on ground.

+autodump metal straight from inventory, in this case not goblinite, but the visitor's randomly generated, owned, foreign crafted, music instrument
++workaround, repurcusions on cleaned object unknown.
