Ode of the Landfish - The Tale of King Arthur
« on: April 29, 2014, 07:20:01 am »

It said that in the beginning there was only the sea called the Sea. It was filled with many wondrous creatures, but one of them was far more ambitious than the others. From the sea he raised a great land, called Land. Henceforth this creature became known as the Landfish.

The new Land was inhospitable. The first that dared to touch it, remarked that it was "kinda dry". The Landfish however had planned for such a problem, and had changed it's very form to one that could survive on Land. The Landfish laid many eggs upon the Land, and its brood colonized even the driest regions. Seeing its creation ruling happily(and not realizing he didn't actually create any edible plants or food of any kind) the Landfish went to slumber in a very deep cave.

Much time passed. Most of the new creatures starved and/or died from being eaten and much knowledge was lost, including the location of the Landfish. This time of chaos was ended when the turtles brought many plants from the Sea and planted them onto the Land, ending the hunger.

You now live many thousands of years after the reign of the Landfish. The brood of the Landfish has grown into a multitude of forms, from frogs to birds, and even the new exciting humans, who managed to burn half the Land to the ground in one of their wars. But it's okay, cause they fixed it later, and held many more slightly less exciting wars.

But even this time of warfare must at some point come to an end. The old creatures of the sea, led by a very large starfish, have become envious of the realm of the Landfish, and have slowly been making their way onto land to destroy what it once created.

During this time of strife, your village was burned to the ground by angry sea snails. You managed to escape, and after resting in a ditch, you passed out and had a prophecy. You must find and awaken the Landfish, so that it may banish the creatures of the sea. It will be difficult, for the story of the Landfish is but a legend in your time, and most humans follow all these newfangled gods like the Dragon and the Angry Rock From Space. But this quest must be done to protect all of Land.

But first you must answer these questions three:

What is your name?

Who were you in your village?

How did you escape from the angry sea snails?

You are Arthur. Not any ordinary Arthur, for you are a King! The king of a small fishing village to be exact. A fishing village that you left to burn as fled on your arcane motorcycle. You truly care for your underlings. But that is no matter, for you have a quest! Perhaps you will even find a sword along the way?[GM Note: Nope.]

You are one in a long line of king. Your great-great-great-grandfather was an Emperor. Your great-great-grandfather was a king. Your great-grandfather was a deposed king. Your grandfather was a reinstated king and your father was a king that was overthrown by a populist revolt that left a couple of villages out of the resultant republic due to clerical error. Thus you rule the villages by default, even if very few people believe you. But they will come around in time. You do have a kickass crown due to your heritage, which helps with the whole thing.

The arcane motorcycle is a family heirloom from a time when dragons(do not confuse with the Dragon, he hates that) could not yet fly, and given to an ancestor of yours in exchange for a gigantic paintbrush and a bucket of blue dragon paint. As dragons could not fly, they created wondrous machines that would allow them to move faster. It was necessary for reasons best described by a quote from Azxdaqdas, the First Ruby dragon and King of the Moon, said moments before his untimely demise: "This is fucking awesome! I am like a train of FIRE AND DEATH!". It is unknown what a train is, but it is generally considered to be "awesome as balls" by most experts. The motorcycle folds neatly into holes in space and is thus both easy to carry, and easy to retrieve at a moments notice.

You are currently located in the southern region of the Republic of Peasantville(do not confuse with Pleasantville, which is a subsidiary of the Northern Realm of Death). You do not have many places to go, but there are a few villages to the east that are technically yours to rule. You can also go see if you can sift through the ruins of your old village. You could also just try to head into the nearest town and see what stories you can find about the Landfish.

What do you do now?

Realizing your folly of not having a weapon of any kind, you make your next goal be the forging of a sword. Such a noble goal truly makes you feel like a king. [Regality +1] Not having any money, you decide to look for a blacksmith among the villages that are yours to rule. If nothing else, you could get payment for the sword by roughhousing with some peasants until they accept you as king. Not that you have been winning many fights lately.

You pull your trusty motorcycle out of the hole in space, and head off to the east, to the nearest village, whose name you don't really remember. To be fair, you haven't really been there before, nor do you know anything about it, besides its location and the fact that it is a village where the houses are covered entirely in poisonous molds. It is widely renown for it's ability to kill dumbasses who try to eat buildings. Thanks to your bike, the trip is short and uneventful. Aside from the time you went for a piss and got attacked by a hedgehog.

On arrival you see that the village is surrounded by a tall wall, covered in the beforementioned moss, which appears to have successfully killed a few wolves who apparently gnawed on the wall while trying to get in. You approach the gate. Before you get very close a jumpy guard starts screaming at you: "Who goes there?! If you're another damn werewolf, then go talk to your buddies over there!". He proceeds to point at the wolf corpses. You feel like he doesn't like you.

How do you respond?

Tell him you're King Arthur! Also, prepare to run him over with your motorcycle.
