Mafia / Roguelike Mafia 7 - The Fall [Game over]
« on: May 15, 2021, 01:52:31 pm »
Welcome to Roguelike Mafia, a game of dungeons and joyfully beating the crap out of each other!  This game is characterized more by the power-granting items you accumulate over the course of the game rather than the role you start with.  Come join in and let's have fun!

Standard Rules:

   1. All votes must be in red.  Unvoting before voting again is not required, but appreciated.  You may vote for No Lynch.  In case of a tie, no one will be lynched.  Do not vote inside of spoiler tags- such votes will not be counted.
   2. Days are 72 hours while Nights are 24 hours.  Neither time span includes weekends, though I may end weekend-spanning nights after 24 hours if all night actions are in.  Unless otherwise stated, days and nights end at 10 PM EST.
   3. Never edit your posts for any reason, including typos.
   4. Do not PM other players.  Players with private chat access will be given a topic on QuickTopic where they may post freely.
   5. Never quote any PM from the mod.  You may give a general summary (for example, a roleclaim), but do not quote directly.
   6. Please put my name in bold if you would like to get my attention.
   7. You may ask for an shorten by posting Shorten in bold. Shortens require at least 60% of players to agree, and will end the day as soon as I can process the day end.  There are currently no extensions available.
   8. Dead players may post one “bah post” to comment on their death, but it may not contain any relevant game information.  After that, dead men tell no tales, so please do not post.
   9. Please make an effort to post at least once daily.  If you do not post for 36 hours, you will be prodded.  If I don’t hear from you within 24 more hours, you will be replaced.  If you think someone needs a prod, please bring it to my attention- I can’t guarantee I will notice everyone who is not posting.
  10. Never underestimate your importance, and always play to win!

Game specific rules:

   1. When the game goes into setup, I will lock the thread and send out your alignment.  Please reply to that with your selection of class from the list below.  If you do not reply in 24 hours, it will default to random.
   2. At game start, you will receive a random common item, unless your class dictates otherwise.
   3. There is a pool of public items.  This pool starts out containing six random items, at least two of which are guaranteed to be uncommon or better.  When a player dies, their items will go into this pool.  At day start, a random common item will be removed from the pool.  The contents of this pool are not known, but I will post a count of the items at day start.
   4. During the day, you will automatically quest for an item, and you will receive it at the end of the day after the lynch.  You may PM me during the day and opt to grab an item from the public item pool instead.  Certain classes have other choices they can make instead.  Note that if the pool is empty when your turn comes to check it, you get nothing!
   5. The odds for receiving an item are as follows:  65% common, 25% uncommon, 9% rare, 1% artifact.  Rarer items tend to have a greater effect.
   6. You may discard one item each night if you wish.  This effect happens at the end of the night and does not count as your night action.  The item goes into the public pool.
   7. Currently, there is no sharing or trading of items, even among mafia teams.

Still lovingly ripped from Piecewise's Perplexicon!

Gooooood evening fans of magic and murder, and welcome to tonight's episode of Fields of Magical Murder!  Tonight's episode is a five-on-five Capture and Hold match!  Which team can control the points and slaughter the competition?  Find out after a brief word from our sponsors!

Welcome to the Fields of Magical Murder, a team deathmatch with modular magic!  It's still heavily ripped inspired by Perplexicon, but also tempered by The Pit of Magic and all the other wonderful people who have hosted Perplexicon games!

I'll try to not let this one die like Pit did; I hope you'll give me another chance.

Rules:
Team objective-based deathmatch with modular magic.  You can cast spells with any number of words up to your pool total.  Word order, what you are doing with your hands, which way you are facing or looking, and what you are thinking may matter.  Pool is refilled at the end of each turn, or by one point a turn if you are in combat.  Health is chunky salsa- no hit points here.

The map has four capture points.  To capture one, a player must start in the area of it, and spend their entire action converting it.  If interrupted in any way, the process will fail.  If it already belongs to the enemy team, converting it will first turn it neutral, and another turn must be spent converting it.  Three players working together may convert it all the way in one turn; two is not enough.  Capture points are indestructible and immutable, regardless of how much magic you throw at them.

Scoring is simple; hold two more than the opposing team at end of turn and earn one point.  Hold three more, two.  Hold all four at the end of the turn and earn three points!  First team to fifteen points is the winner.

Teams are of five players each and assigned randomly from the first ten entrants.  Unlike previous games, death does not kick you out of the game; you spend a turn respawning into the starting zone.  The starting zone is accessible via teleport, and heals anyone starting their turn inside, as well as reversing negative magical transformations.  As a counterbalance, no magic can be cast inside, except during the opening segment.

During the first five turns, players may prepare inside the starting zone.  This opportunity allows for players to test magical words and create hopefully powerful items.  Team damage is prevented in there, and any negative magical effect is blocked automatically at no penalty.  After this, the game starts in earnest and magic is no longer allowed inside.

The book may change from time to time.  Such changes won't be announced, except in very unusual circumstances.

As this is a team game, if you wish to communicate with your teammates in spoilers, that is fine.  Labeling one containing an action as such is extremely appreciated, or I am liable to miss it.  I trust all of you as good faithful Bay Twelvers to not open spoilers of the opposing team.

Waitlist policy:  As teams should not be changing, there really isn't need of a wait list.  That said, if people really want on it, I could assign each team a couple alternates in case someone has to drop out.  It goes without saying that such an alternate should also avoid spoilers of the opposite team.

I've probably missed some obvious points, so if you have questions, fire away!  I will point out that I've made some extensive changes since Pit to the way some familiar words and concepts work in the interest of balance.

Mafia / King of the Mafia 5: Hail to the King
« on: February 24, 2016, 01:08:05 pm »
Some say that King Toaster overstayed his spot in the throne.  Many of those voices vanished.  Still, rumors say he is looking to get out of this life.  As usual, many people think they are qualified to hold the title.  Only one of them is correct.

The previous games can be found here:
King of the Mafia 4
King of the Mafia 3
King of the Mafia 2
King of the Mafia 1 - Second Thread

Rules
Shamelessly stolen from Leafsnail:
Welcome to King of the Mafia, your chance to win the fabulous crown of this subforum!  The rules are below.  They were originally written by Dakarian and have been edited by webadict and me (my edits are in italics).
You think you've proven yourself, child?  "Oh my, I won as town!"  Meh, that's easy with a whole army at your back and power roles you can abuse.   "But I've beaten the town as Mafia!"  PHAH!  With friends and a horribly weak town.

But can you do both?  Can you take down the mafia with 6 others, then turn around as mafia and BEAT those 6 to a pulp?  Can you pick just the perfect role-braving additions caused by an evil mod-that will not only help you as town but also as scum?  Can you fight off endless waves of people, including those you've killed?

Well then step on the hill and see if you have what it takes to be King of the Mafia.

Spoiler: Basic Rules:  READ! (click to show/hide)

Specialized Rules:

Inning is not required to sign up.  To sign up read only the first two pages of Xylbot's role list and choose ONE role from there (and PM it to me).  You will then be assigned with that role, with a possibility of additional features based on balance or tomfoolery(though nothing hidden).

Once 7 people have signed up, the game begins.  A random person will be picked as KING MAFIA and will be given, on top of their role, the Mafiakill.  The First Round ONLY will start with a kill-less Night (that is all killing abilities will be disabled).

From there, the game continues.  During the game, anyone else can Sign up to be put on a queue. Game will play like a standard mafia game.  If you die at any time, you may Sign up again, though others who haven't played that round will have priority.

If King Mafia is killed at any time, the round ends.  Those in queue will take the place of those that died to refill the ranks back to 7 (those still alive remain), a new KING MAFIA will be picked, and the game will start on the next phase (Old round ends in Day, new round starts at Night...)

Play continues until KING MAFIA succeeds in being the ONLY one alive.  Note that all players being dead does not fulfill the KING MAFIA win condition - in that case a new round would begin with 7 new players.

There is an antilurk system in place.  Each RL day, you MUST have either voted (even if its for the same person) or sent in an action.  Fail once and you get one prod.  Fail twice in the same round and you will be killed, a player in Queue will automatically Sub in for you, and you will not be able to rejoin.  Ever.

All may join this game, though be aware of the antilurk system.  Please read this line Dariush.

*Toony Edit on No-Lynch policy*
Players may choose to no-lynch two days in a row. Otherwise a lynch must be made. If players force a tie then the lynch target will be randomly decided between the lynch candidates. If there are only two players left the compulsory lynch rule is not enforced, instead a stalemate results in a mafia loss.

You're done with the rules.  Now join and claim the mountain!

Toaster Note:  I do my phase ends at 11 PM EST.  In this game, the timer is enforced even if I am not around!  Forum time is the ultimate authority.

Toaster Note 2:  Extends require 50% of players voting for them in bold.  There are no shortens.  If you're done, remember that hammers are on.

Long live the Queen!

Indeed she had.  Queen Moldath Yellowboards had ascended to the throne after her father Komrek Wheellovely had been struck down by the hated Bronze Collossus Ngog Scraperoared the Bold Hardiness, who had attacked the capital Boatescorts in the year 21 after the Founding of The Calm Door.

This was over two hundred and twenty five years ago- far longer than a dwarf had any right to live.  She should have gone to the halls of the elders long ago.  But this was glossed over.  Blessed by the gods, they said.  Favored by Thiken Perfecteagle, they said.

Nonsense, the lot of it!

We knew the truth, though.  Both her and her father had a grudge against Tumam the Dignified Moral, and had each in their reign profaned his temple.  For their blasphemy, they both were cursed with vampirism.  While her father had fallen in battle, she had survived many trials in office, and still reigned.

Early in her reign, she passed a set of laws known as the Edicts of Order, but there was nothing good about it.  It allowed for imprisonment without trial of those suspected of "disrupting the traditions of the elders" and those who were imprisoned never returned.  We had word from those closer to the inner circle that these Edicts were used to satiate her... need.  It was hard to estimate how many had died, but it had to be thousands.

There were plans to overthrow her, but she had the advantage of a much longer worldview; generations to plot, plan, and conspire to protect herself.  We had less.  What we needed was a base to organize.  This is why we set out... but I fear treachery.  There may be a spy working for the queen among us.  Even so, we must do what we can.  Start a settlement.  Train fighters.  Send arms back to the capital.  Depose the Blood Queen, so we can truly be free.

Welcome to Long Live the Queen, a Mafia themed succession fort!  Brainstormed with the help of the fine folks down there, this is a tale of treachery, deceit, and rebellion.

What is this?
A succession fort with a theme.  It started out from a suggestion in one of the Mafia threads, and evolved into this.  The theme and backstory is prewritten- what comes next is up to the player.  Are there spies?  Is it all just a bunch of paranoia?  Are you a spy yourself?  The choice is yours!

Is this vanilla DF?
It sure is.

Can I play?  I've never played Mafia before.
You sure can!  I'm not looking for that when taking turn signups or Dwarfing requests.  That said, you're more than welcome to come down and join us!

Will you Dwarf me?
Sure.  Just ask, and you'll get in.

Can I use...
Please don't use any exploits or third-party tools that give you an extra edge.  Things that just simplify management or viewers are fine.

What about savescumming?
Don't savescum just because you messed something up.  If the fort is wiped out or unplayable, then it can be considered.

What about sieges?
I'd prefer to see something other than a huge number of cage traps.

Mafia / Limerick Mafia - AABBA [Game Over!]
« on: December 09, 2013, 09:12:00 pm »
There once was a mob from the Twelve Bays
Who schemed and planned for eight days
  They sat and perused
  Till they concocted a ruse
Now we must stop their evil ways

Welcome to Limerick Mafia, a game following the JK9++ ruleset!  This game will also feature experimental extension rules, so be sure to read them!

Standard Rules:

   1. All votes must be in red.  Unvoting before voting again is not required, but appreciated.  You may vote for No Lynch.  In case of a tie, no one will be lynched.
   2. Days are 72 hours while Nights are 24 hours.  Neither time span includes weekends, though I may end weekend-spanning nights after 24 hours if all night actions are in.  Unless otherwise stated, days and nights end at 11 PM EST.

   6. Please put my name in bold if you would like to get my attention.
   7. Each player has one extension they may use at any time to extend the game day by 24 hours.  To use an extension, a player must post "Playername: Extend" on its own line.  Dead players may not extend.  Shorten requests are by vote as usual, and require at least 51% of players to agree, and will end the day as soon as I can process the day end.
   8. Dead players may post one “bah post” to comment on their death, but it may not contain any relevant game information.  After that, dead men tell no tales, so please do not post.
   9. Roll To Dodge / The Pit of Magic: A Perplexicon Game. [Oh well.]
« on: July 12, 2013, 03:16:02 pm »
Lovingly ripped from Piecewise's Perplexicon!

You suddenly find yourself in a large, round room with seven others.  Each of you is wearing ragged clothing and holding a book of magic.  The book is filled with magical words, but there's no hint of what they do.  Will you master the Pit Tome and slay those that would kill you for your power, or will you just be fodder for someone else's greatness?

Welcome to the Pit of Magic, a deathmatch with modular magic!  As said, it's heavily ripped inspired by Perplexicon, and many of the concepts remain.

Rules:
Deathmatch with modular magic.

You may PM me your exact action if you wish to hide your secrets from others, but please post something here.  I reserve the right to not wait for everyone to process a turn, but I will wait for those in combat.

The book may change from time to time.  Such changes won't be announced, except in very unusual circumstances.

Anyone remember this thread?  I'm bringing it back (minus the minecraft because holycrap that's a lot of extra work.)

The Hundredth Tile:  Toaster Edition

And I'm twisting the rules to my own preference.

The Rules:
There is a blank board of 100 tiles, including the finish tile, and a starting podium. The aim of the game is to get from the podium to the portal room first.  At the start of each turn, I roll 8d8 and a d20 for each player for initiative.  Players pick in order of initiative.  (Tentative picks are allowed, so if you are fifth in line but first to post, you could pick your top five choices and I give you the first available.)  Tiles are allowed to modify initiative.  If a player land on a blank tile, he or she can invent a rule for that tile, which can be pretty much anything (Some rules apply).  If you land somewhere which already has a rule, then you follow the instructions on that square.  If a player misses two turns, they will be stricken from the board and another player may join in their place.   The first person to the end is the winner- exact roll is not needed.

A new feature for this go-around:  The winner can suggest the theme/style of the next round, a la Roll to Deathmatch.  A leaderboard will be maintained, and the first three people to finish each round will be allowed to continue to the next round, while waitlisters/newcomers fill the remaining spots.  Once the third person finishes, I'll end the round and place the remaining people according to how close to the goal they are.

The rules for making tile rules are as follows:
  • No tiles that move you more than 10 in either direction are allowed, unless exchanging with another player.
  • No insta-win/loss tiles, or tiles that change the objective.
  • No tiles that change the board (IE no sub-boards.)
  • No tiles that effect only (a) certain player(s). If you do, I'll rephrase it to be "random player(s)".
  • No "When you pass this tile" tiles. You have to land on them!
  • No hidden status effects-you have to explain them as they are named!
  • I reserve the right to modify tiles I think are too game-breaking.  I will do my best to maintain the spirit of the tile.

FAQ:

Q: Can two players be in the same tile?
A: Yes.  There's no special effect.

Other Games / Hidden Dimensions: Xyth [Free online CCG]

Hidden Dimensions: Xyth

Has anyone played this before?  It's actually the third game in the Hidden Dimension series, a science-fiction CCG.  The gameplay is similar to Elements, if you've played that.

You can summon structures (resource generators, mostly) and ships in an attempt to blow up the other guy.  I suck at writing intros, so here's a link to the description on the game's wiki.  It includes several single player modes including campaigns, as well as PvP.  There's no pay to win here because there's no way to pay anything, and grinding mostly doesn't help you in PvP- you can upgrade cards, but PvP automatically downgrades everything to the lowest rank so everyone is even.

It's been sucking up a fair bit of my time lately, so if you like CCGs, check it out!

Thanks to the Roller's Block thread for the idea!

The Golden Cheezburger has been stolen!  Longcat is sending six of his most faithful LOLcats out to recover it- are you up to the task?

Welcome to Roll to Has Cheezburger: A LOLcat RTD with a twist!  All actions must be submitted as LOLcat images instead of text!  As an added bonus, all game dialogue will be done in lolspeak.

I'll be taking six brave cats, with a spot reserved for Gatleos because he posted the idea in Roller's Block where it implanted itself in my head.

I don't think there will be a need for a waitlist, but do expect AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION!  Details will be forthcoming!

To sign up, I need three things:

Your LOLname:
Your LOLcolor:
Your LOLcat!  Post any LOLcat image and your character's special will be modeled after said image.

Players:

1. Gatleos
2. MonkeyHead
3. Digital Hellhound
4. lawastooshort
5. Errol
6. Sinpwn

Mafia / Roguelike Mafia 4 - Haste makes waste. [Game over!]
« on: April 08, 2012, 09:42:40 pm »
Welcome to Roguelike Mafia, a game of dungeons and joyfully beating the crap out of each other!  This game is characterized more by the power-granting items you accumulate over the course of the game rather than the role you start with.  Come join in and let's have fun!

Standard Rules:

   1. All votes must be in red.  Unvoting before voting again is not required, but appreciated.  You may vote for No Lynch.  In case of a tie, no one will be lynched.
   2. Days are 72 hours while Nights are 24 hours.  Neither time span includes weekends, though I may end weekend-spanning nights after 24 hours if all night actions are in.  Unless otherwise stated, days and nights end at 11 PM EST.

Mafia / Hammertime - Here Comes the Hammer [Game Over]
« on: February 28, 2012, 09:55:26 pm »
Welcome to Hammertime, a role light hammers-only mafia!  There is no deadline- when someone has more than 50% of the vote, they are lynched- no takebacks.

Game Rules:

   1. All votes must be in red.  Unvoting before voting again is not required, but appreciated.  You may vote for No Lynch.
   2. When any player has more than 50% of players voting for them, that person will be lynched.  As soon as someone has the required vote, the day moves to Twilight.  During Twilight, posting is allowed, but discouraged.  Once here, there is no more changing of votes, and the day will move to night as soon as I can process it.  Nights are 24 hours, not including weekends, though I may end weekend-spanning nights after 24 hours if all night actions are in.  Unless otherwise stated, nights end at 11 PM EST.
   7. Being hammers only, there are no extensions or shortens.  If the game has stalled with no posts for 48 hours, I have the right to end the day as I see fit.  I will warn before I do this.
