Then try finding a demonic fortress.
Was that glacier around the southern border? As in, were you very close to it?

Anathema, could you upload the save to DFFD:

This has happened before, though I'm not sure if it was someone bodyswapping with demons specifically, just underground stuff.nah it's not fixed just that being a demon might make you hostile to the civ thus most likely prevent you from leaving.
Is there still that glitch where being directly under a site let you quick travel even while you were underground, or did Toady fix that? If he didn't, you can try that to escape.

though seeing as your in the body swap state you could have just slept and the game would have randomly swap to a different body next time you wake up. due to how DF sleeping is just traveling in 1 spot.
I'm attempting to reach a town as an Elephant. This is a slow process because any traveling or sleeping triggers a body swap. Bogeymen do show up to kill you even as an animal if you're alone at night, but you can safely wait out the night near a herd of friendlies.
Sounds like a serious case of Body Surfing. I hope this bug never gets fixed because it sounds awesome.

How far away is the nearest town?
I knew it, THE ELEPHANTS WERE WORKING WITH THE HUMANS ALL ALONG! They hired them to kill us dwarves so they can come by when we're all dead and steal our stuff.I'm attempting to reach a town as an Elephant. About a day and a half's travel; had to rest (i.e. wait out the night, since you can't sleep) once and got there the second day with plenty of sunlight left. Surprisingly, the humans are friendly and can give me quests! "Hello elephant, a particular outlaw has been causing us much hardship.."

Traveled to a nearby fort to recruit some companions, and.. discovered that Elephants can't open doors. All my plans for becoming the first great Elephant general ruined. Which means I won't be able to sleep indoors in a town, either.
Alas, it wasn't meant to be. One of the human guards just wandered out of the fort doors so that we could talk, but apparently they have a prejudice against talking Elephants:

Quick! Ask him for a quest!
Quick! Ask him for a quest!
Tried that, he just gave me the standard message about death finding me soon enough. I'd already gotten plenty of quests from the nearby hamlet anyway, it'd just be a pain to do them with no companions, bogeymen to contend with, and an unequipped/unskilled elephant's mediocre combat abilities.
God, imagine how creepy this would be if you were the body-swapping adventurer.well sleeping in town/fort will lead to changing into one of the residents. so press your luck and wake inside the mayor of the town and go on a killing spree, just make sure to not die before you go back to sleep/travel.
You go out for a bit of camping, and when you wake up you are suddenly a completely horrifying creature in a giant underground cavern. Scared and alone, you go to sleep and wake up again as a crab, and finally an elephant. As an elephant, you search for a town or maybe a hospital, and when you get to one nobody really cares!
For some reason, it seems to always go demon -> some critter on the surface (elephant, warthog, etc) -> underground critter -> underground critter -> repeat. Only the second body swap is actually interesting with the ability to visit towns and talk to people, once you get stuck underground there's not much to do.
That being said it is theoretically possible to quest as an elephant or warthog or whatever, I just didn't have the patience to continue, as traveling or sleeping kicks you into a random underground critter with nothing to do.

I just found this one guy named (Reko Mallumutk "Reko the Perplexing Martyr" Charcoal Devil) And i found him inside this one human keep labeled as a prisoner his equipment was decorated Nicely with facy items and his description is as follows (A great scaly Coyote twisted into a humanoid form it, Squirms and fidgets, Its charcoal scales are jagged and close-set, Beware its Fire !
He is skinny)
So this guy is some kinda forgotten beast that was captured or somthing? hopefully he will make a kick ass companion ! and turn all those goblins into !!Goblins!!
Log : When i was exploring with Reko we found some lions and he threw a fire ball at one lion killing it and then he ran into the flames and killed the rest !
Log II: After when getting almost to a fort i was heading too we where ambushed by a team of humans and I noticed Reko can also Breath fire aswell as throw it also he is an awesome fighter
Log III: Later after 3 Ambushes i fell pray to a mace goblin because Reko got distracted by a swarm of buzzards and chased them away with fire balls while my skull was bashed in , maybe i will find him again?
Those demons aren't glitches, they escape the underworld during worldgen and take over human and goblin civilisations. The demon prisoner probably came from a goblin civilisation that was conquered by the humans.
That's... kinda... descending to a lower plane of existence. Pretty epic. See if you can get out by any means, including dfusion, and if yes, then go sneak around and bite stuff.Dfusion pretty much makes this glitch easy to replicate and gives you more control on who you swap to.
This is awesome! The first thing I thought of when I played adventure mode was "I wish there was a Quantum Leap mod." My wish has come true!where were you when I found this out?
Use tweak and punch a hole through the ground all the way to the surface. After recruiting a demonic legion of course.
Then siege the elves.
Toadys somehow accidentally incorporated reincarnation and the afterlife into the game, only in dwarf fortress could something so amazing happen.wait didn't I hear that before?
If you do stuff while in, say, the law-giver's body, does it show up in their Legends entry?oh well maybe I should up date that body swap thread (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=64524.0) on the glacier method
Also, this means that apparently Toady has the basic framework down for taking control of already-existing folks in the world. Awesome.
I just discovered this topic. This is the greatest bug ever.
I've never actually gotten to see Hell in DF before. I didn't know it was so much like the caverns you can find scatted everywhere.
Now I'm an elephant.
Now I'm on the ocean.
Now the game is frozen.
Now DF is the most needlessly detailed game I've ever played.
fuck. gotta find some adamantine.Adamantine won't help you. You're going to have to find a Magma Pool.
Alright, DOING IT! RISE! RIIIIISE!this is bodyswap glitch and there has been work through the years (2011) that already made it possible to control any npc or formal adventurer now in dfhack.
Does that still work in 0.34.11, by any chance?
Simply because that seems like a pseudo-feature bug and...
*prays that this hasn't been fixed*

well the original script was made in Dfusion and fine tune it so that you can stay in the body if you want to... also kinda fix the whole can't retire. I also found(error corrected) the way to properly jump into different bodies through cage trapping yourself releasing the caged flag and walking away from your body, doing so unloads your character and quickly jumps you into a body nearby.I know, but the "glitchy way" seems much cooler to me.Alright, DOING IT! DFHack is good, but kinda overrated, for me at least.
