Forum Games and Roleplaying / [SG] Choice Forks
« on: April 09, 2022, 09:48:15 pm »
Hi, I remember Egan’s forking suggestion game and I want to give it a try, memory is a bit fuzzy so there might be differing rules

In this version, every choice mentioned happens, creating multiple forks, one for each choice made

You lie awake in your bed staring at the ceiling. It’s abnormally dark, you look out your window and notice there are no streetlights, or stars, or moon.

What do you do?

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Out Conspiracy the Conspiracy
« on: September 14, 2021, 01:04:43 pm »
Not sure if this counts as a game but the idea is a poster makes a conspiracy theory and the next poster makes an even crazier one to debunk conspiracies with conspiracies. E.g. “I think the Earth is flat” “What? You think Earth is real? We live on the sun, fool” etc. I’ll start

Flies are being used as spies by the Russian government to learn about America

This takes place after the end of The Title Is Dead. The Reality Stabilizer was activated, however, it doesn’t actually;;y get rid of anything, it sends them to a pocket dimension within the device
Bold actions and dice will be rolled. May the dice determine your fates

A poster will place three statements. The next poster will quote the previous statement and strikethrough or underline one of them, that statement is now false. The other two are now true. Said poster will then make three new statements. This process repeats. Through this process, a universe shall be born. If there are any questions, just ask

Light can or will be able to be quantized
Things can have an anti counterpart
Nebulae can or will be made of darkness

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Communication/Translation Game
« on: August 05, 2021, 12:12:07 am »
Hi, it’s a shame my other game died so soon, anyways, here’s a concept I thought of recently, I think something similar might have been done before though not in a game format

Essentially what this is is a game about translating fictional languages, pieces of real languages are in amongst the fictional languages along with something nearby with a word or phrase translated from one language to another, like Rosetta’s stone, except we make up the languages. You likely have questions, please ask them. I think I worded things poorly, we are essentially making new languages, whether we each make different languages or add on to other fictional languages made in game are up to those making the posts, real languages or languages from other games (like DF for example) would be used as templates. Example below, note info from one translation can be used for others, so long as the user adds another translation

Example (RP/story is optional):
Poster 1: An archeologist finds two clay tablets, one contains many characters in an unknown language, while the other is smaller, containing one of the words followed by an English word
Large Tablet: Remart ora grafuf rt uyt

Small Tablet: ora=my

Poster 2: Thing to Translate: Her ora freu rt buj
Translation guide: rt=or

(If one wishes they can add what they know so far of each language in spoilers, like Poster 2 is about to do))
Spoiler: Language 1 (click to show/hide)
Example end
If there is still confusion, ask for clarification, apparently listening to music boxes can lead to thoughts like this

Powercreep RPS:

The person at the top of the waitlist gets to pick someone else to duel.
Whoever wins must add a new symbol to the standard RPS, selecting up to half rounded-down of existing symbols for the new symbol to beat.
Currently we have the following matchups
Rock beats Scissors and loses to Paper
Paper beats Rock and loses to Scissors
Scissors beats Paper and loses to Rock

The winner of the first duel will make a new symbol and choose ((3/2=1.5) rounded down=[1]) symbol for the new symbol to beat, being beaten by the symbols it doesn’t beat. If there is a tie, both players can make a symbol

How duels will work
There will be a list of combatants, the one at the top of the list may choose to duel anyone else on the list. Both duelists will PM me their moves, then I will post their choices on the thread and say who wins, and how many symbols the newest symbol will need to beat. The winner, in the thread, will create their symbol and what it beats. Then, I will post the new matchup list containing the new symbol and its strengths and weaknesses and the new list, the duelist at the top of the list last match will be moved to the bottom and the second top duelist will be moved to the top. If I end up being chosen to duel, I will use a randomizer to determine what I pick to make it more fair to the PMer. The same person cannot be dueled twice in a row. If there are any questions, ((use double parentheses)) As this is a relatively simple game, you can do flavor actions if you so wish. If you’d rather I take myself out of the waitlist, ((say so and I will comply))

Let the game begin
Currently we have the following matchups
Rock beats Scissors and loses to Paper
Paper beats Rock and loses to Scissors
Scissors beats Paper and loses to Rock

If I end up at the top, I will also use a randomized to pick my opponent too, if a new player wants to wait for a 3rd player to have a choice of opponents, they can say so

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Eldritch Doodad Maker

(I want randomly generated eldritch doodads!)
Welcome to Eldritch Arts and Crafts! The place where you and your children can go to learn not only arts and crafts, but Eldritch magic as well! You can even take your items home for free once they are made!

Just mention something you want, and someone will come assist you in crafting it!

((First person says an item they want, next person describes how they make the item and what Eldritch properties said item has, then says what item they’d like…this continues. A similar format to Corrupt A Wish except the Eldritch properties are a feature))

Roll To Dodge / World of RTD
« on: July 12, 2021, 09:21:11 am »
This is a bit different than other RTDs. A player posts an action in bold, then the next poster rolls a d6 and based on that describes how the action went, 1 being very bad fail, 2 being fail, 3 being partial success, 4 being better success, 5 being great success, 6 being !!GREAT!! success. After the action of the previous player was described, the poster then mentions an action in bold, and the cycle continues. The actions and what happens remain consistent and are part of a universe, unlike Corrupt a Wish, where only some responses are linked to previous responses. Example below

Example
Player 1: Shoot at something

Player 2: (rolls d6=2) Your gun jams and you hear a click. Nothing comes out.
Tie lots of strings together

Player 3: (rolls d6=1) All the strings you have do not connect to each other at all, trying to tie them together is like trying to keep two negative sides of a magnet together. String flies everywhere as a result of this.
Delete the curse of bad dice rolls

Player 4: 5 This happens for the action after mine
Marvel at the chaotic winds
Example End

And so on. The die were rolled by Siri picking a number between 1 and 6 for the examples, of course any die rolling method works. Ready?

Here is a link to the original thread.
I don’t know how to balance, so I’m hoping things stay balanced or that others will help me keep things balanced
Game Rules
1) You start off each game with 20 hearts, and 5 cards in your hand. For any given game, you and your opponent may decide to start with a different amount of any of those three things.
2) If you have 0 or less hearts, you lose.
3) At the start of each turn, you draw one card.
4) Unless stated otherwise, you can only play one card per turn.
5) Cards also have hearts. If they have 0 hearts, they go away, unless stated otherwise. If a card says it has attack power, it can only damage the player directly if they have no cards defending them.
6) If a card has zero hearts when you play it, it will be destroyed after it does its effect.
7) There is a kind of resource called Stars, and you start the game with 0 of them. Strong Cards cost Stars to play, and they can be gained with the effects of weak cards. This prevents your best cards from being played immediately. Cards may also have effects that cost stars to use. (Stars carry over between turns)
8) The player who goes second starts the game with one star.
9) You can also make up your own resources for your cards if you really want.
10) Cards cannot attack on the turn they are played unless otherwise stated, and can only attack once per turn unless otherwise stated. When a card attacks another card, both cards lose hearts equal to the other card's attack
11) By default, if a card is face down it cannot be attacked. Cards may be attackable when face down, in which case this must be declared when playing the card.
12) Face Down cards cannot protect you from being attacked until it is flipped up. If a facedown card does something it will be flipped.
13) The game will typically use the honor system, so players can randomize their own deck and draw cards without GM intervention. If you suspect someone is cheating, inform the GM. Its just sad if you feel the need to cheat in this game. For grudge matches, you can request the GM do all the random stuff.
14) Strive to avoid situations which will require a retcon. Those are a big pain to clean up.
15) In the event of a disagreement, the GM will decide what happens.
16) Don't be afraid to get creative with your deckbuilding!
17) If a card says it does something "At the end of each turn", this only means your own turns unless it specifically states otherwise.

Relative card strength
A card that costs no stars to play would typically have a combined stat total of 5. (Example, 2 attack and 3 hearts). Useful effects will generally lower this, and detrimental effects can raise it. You can also make cards with no hearts which act like "Spells". Each star a card costs will typically raise its base stat total by 3 or 4. Very high star costs can have ridiculous effects.

Tips
Cards can do all kinds of things if you want them to! Want to attack on the turn a card is played? You can give it an effect to let it do that. Don't like only playing one card per turn? Make some cards that don't count towards the limit, and some other cards that let you draw more cards!

You'll want to consider your "Star economy". You can have just a few cards with a very high star cost, or maybe an equal amount of star generators and star consumers. Or maybe just skip the stars altogether and have a lot of basic cards.

You can give cards effects that trigger when they are destroyed, when they attack, when they are attacked, when played alongside another card, cards with an effect depending on how long the game has been going on for, or any number of things really. Surprise me!

Deck Creation
Decks will start out with 40 cards. This may be negotiable in the future. You can have multiple copies of the same card in your deck and I recommend having at least a few multiples to make this a bit easier on the GM. For each card you want to make, provide the following information. PM your card information to the GM, do not post it in the thread!

1) Card Name
2) Star Cost if applicable
3) Card effects and/or flavor text
4) Hearts and Attack.
5) Card background color (All cards will have a very light background)
6) A picture for the card. All pictures should be 100 x 180 pixels in size. (100 vertical and 180 horizontal)

It is recommended to use exact numbers when discussing what you want a card's stats to be. Submit all cards to the GM for approval. The GM reserves the right to refuse any card for any reason.

Facedown Cards
In the event that a card says it can be placed face down, use this image to represent the face down card. Somewhere along the lines it was decided that this is to be the back of all CYOGTCG cards forever. Its a tradition I don't intend to break.

Player Mechanics
These game mechanics are used by some cards and cannot easily be explained with card text alone. You only need to pay attention to these if a card actually uses them.

Images must be 180 pixels wide and 100 pixels tall
