Title: Edge of Oblivion
Post by: Cryxis, Prince of Doom on February 11, 2018, 12:31:14 am
The year is 2156, borders have changed drastically. Currently three nations control the majority of the world’s land mass. What hasn’t changed from the past is that each of these nations holds a gun to the others heads. Each waiting for one to pull the trigger on the other.

The three nations are as follows:
-Pycb (Rus’), or what remains of the Soviet Union and most of Asia.
-Jamhuri (The Republic), the majority of the African continent as well as Turkey and the Middle East.
-The New Holy Roman Empire, consisting of England, Western Europe, and what remains of the Americas.

Anywhere that these superpowers border each other, there is conflict to find. Though in recent decades each nation has delved deeper into funding WMDs as a means to scare the other nations into submission.

While all of this is happening there are also still smaller nations that remain outside of this war. As well as private corporations that prefer to keep their hands out of this strife. Some believe that there is a resistance group that has formed which plans on toppling these three great nations to bring about international peace.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You wake from a deep sleep, to what at first seemed like a high pitched whirring and flashing of lights. As your eyes focused and your ears adjusted it turned into the sound of emergency alarms and sight of emergency lights in the room spinning in their mounts, throwing light around the room.

Your head throbs as you begin looking around the room. It appears to be a hospital room but there are no windows. The door to the room is closed and you appear to be alone. Around you there are many jars of assorted medical supplies as well as a operating tray next to the table you are on. It has three different vials on it.

Looking at yourself you see that you are wearing a hospital gown. Moving the gown out of the way you see that you have multiple, closed, incisions along your arms, legs, and chest. As well there is a metal device on the inside of your left forearm.

The metal device is lifted out of your skin but only just, and there is a groove down the center of it for something to be inserted. There are three glowing dots on the top of the device near your wrist.

As you sit up, you feel that your whole body is sore. Not just where the incisions are but everywhere your body aches.

What do you do?

Observing the room around you a little closer you notice a few more things in better detail.

The jars on the counter across from you contain; cotton balls, tongue depressors, alcohol swabs, bandages, gauze, and cotton swabs.

You notice one of the cabinets over the counter has a glass door, behind which you can see multiple vials of medicines as well as pills and empty syringes.

There is a sink on the counter with what you assume to be a soap dispenser and an antibacterial wash rag.

You notice on the floor next to the rollers for the surgery tray is a biohazard waste bin. Inside there are a few used needles, many bloodied pieces gauze, and other various surgical waste items.

You observe the tray next to you, on it there are three vials. Each has a code printed onto it with a square item scan code. They read; A39-265, B04-002, and C01-103.

After looking at everything closer, you attempt to remember what is happening. How did you get here?

You can not remember your name, you think you are a citizen… no a soldier of the Rus’. You think you are 21 years old at the oldest but you’re unsure.

As to where you are or why you are where you are, you have no idea. Your last memory that you can currently think of is being at a bar on the last military base that you were stationed at. You remember celebrating something important, and not just with your enlisted friends but also some officers that you don’t remember too well.

You are taken back from your memories by the sound of the alarms, back to being alone in this strange hospital room…

What do you do?

Search the room for a trash can if there is not one grab the biohazard bin and dump it out then grab the cotton balls, alcohol swabs, bandages, gauze, any pill that looks useful, and the three vials and put them in the bin, like a make shift first aid box then look out of the door to see if any one is around.

Check for identifying features. Tattoos, uniforms, genders, badges, dental features... or lack there of. People typically stick to their own, was there any prevailing features of the people you recall celebrating with? Check your nails and any shaved sections of hair to attempt to discern if you have been out for long. Smell for food.

Your memory of that night is very fuzzy. You remember one person who you think may have been a close friend. His name, Yuri, comes back to you. He was the same rank as you, had brown eyes, and blonde hair. He had a word tattooed on the back of his left hand but you can't remember what. You think he may have been smoking in your memory but you're not sure.

He seems to be the only person in that memory that you can put a name to. The rest are a haze. You do remember that Yuri left your company not too long after the officers appeared though. That seems to be all you can remember.

Search the room for a trash can if there is not one grab the biohazard bin and dump it out then grab the cotton balls, alcohol swabs, bandages, gauze, any pill that looks useful, and the three vials and put them in the bin, like a make shift first aid box then look out of the door to see if any one is around.

There is a waste bin on the floor by the counter. You empty its contents and fill it with the contents of the jars, most of the pills in the cabinet, and the three vials. As well as several vials from the medicine cabinet with several clean needles.

(I will include an inventory in the next post)

Now that you have your "makeshift first aid kit", you decide to peak out the door.

As you look out you see that there are alarms going off in the hall as well. Then you see one thing that makes you take a double take, a smear of blood against the wall to the left about twenty feet from your door.

You can hear someone moaning in pain in the same direction and sure enough sticking your head just a little further out the door you spot a man in a lab coat laying on the ground. There is quite a bit of blood on his clothes. He does not seem to know that you are there.

What do you do?

Go and find a weapon of some kind, like a fire extinguisher, then examine the lab coat guy.
Look both ways before crossing the road.

Before exiting into the hallway you check the other direction. Down the right side of the hall you can see a sharp turn leading in the direction behind you about forty feet away. Besides that you see a couple more blood smears on the wall, which get larger as they move leftward down the hall.

There is also a fire emergency box on the wall to the right. You decide that the coast is clear and exit the room. You open the fire emergency box hoping to find something to defend yourself with, and sure enough there is a bright red crowbar inside as well as a hose and "in case of emergency" lever. Though you're sure pulling the lever would do nothing.

You take the crowbar in hand and head off to check on the man in the lab coat. You notice that the left side of the hall ends in double doors about fifty feet from the room you exited, as well as doors every twenty feet or so staggered on both sides of the hall. (No door directly across the hall from another)

As you approach he takes notice of you,"H..he...help... help me," he stutters out as a small stream of blood begins to trickle down from his mouth to his chin.

You kneel down to examine his wounds. He puts one of his hands, shaking, on your left arm and attempts to mutter something but you can't quite tell what it is. Looking at his wounds, you find that he has been shot at least twice in the torso and once on the right side of his chest just under his collar bone.

You are no doctor but can tell that these wounds are fatal. He is already bleeding out and losing color in his face. The blood on his hands and chin are a stark contrast to his now almost porcelain skin. His breathing is fast and sporadic, with a slight wheezing or gurgling sound coming from his chest.

His hand grips your shoulder with what little strength he has. His blood shot eyes look faintly in your direction, though you think his vision may be fading as he isn't making eye contact, but merely looking at you.

You can think of no way to save this man's life so you decide to comfort him in his last moments. You lean in closer and hold him, wadding up his clothes around one of his wounds and applying pressure to make it seem like you are trying to save him.

With the other hand you hold his head against your chest as he weeps, gurgled words coming from his mouth,"Th.. thank... you..." Moments later his hand let's go of your shoulder and his head falls back. There was nothing you could do to save him and he clearly didn't have the ability to answer any questions you may have had for him.

What do you do next?

Eat his flesh and gain his power.
Swipe his wallet.
Note that you did not hear any gunshots, even though there were apparently multiple gunshots within close proximity within a timeframe over which you woke up. Become mildly panicked at the prospect and implications of suppressed firearms.

That would be messy and noisy, which would make us easier to find. It is also potentially traumatic and defiles a corpse which is criminal. Meanwhile, their opponents were using guns, which is not associated with "aim for the head" opponents, and they did not shoot the guy's head, so they were not mistaking him for something which needs head-shooting. even for a psychopath, there is reason not to. Meanwhile, the reasons to pursue this option are fantasy scenarios that do not match the known data. And even then, this guy seemed to like us in life, so if they come back as an intelligent(gun-compatible) zombie then they might be an ally...

See if he has any kind of key card of keys on him, then go to the nearest door that wasn't the one we came from originally.

You set his body down, a rush a sadness takes over. As far as you can remember you've never watched someone die. You try to maintain awareness of the situation and decide to fish around his pockets for anything of you.

You find a set of car keys and an ID card with a scan bar on it.

Note that you did not hear any gunshots, even though there were apparently multiple gunshots within close proximity within a timeframe over which you woke up. Become mildly panicked at the prospect and implications of suppressed firearms.

Taking into account that either this man had been bleeding out while you were still out or was shot as you woke up. Supressors had to have been used to not be loud enough for you to hear them.

This makes you slightly uneasy and more cautious, but there is not much you can do about the situation but continue further.

Go down the hallway opposite of the blood stains.

You decide to go down the hall, walking away from the lab coat guy and blood stains on the wall.

Your ears begin to ring and wounds start to become slightly muted from the constant alarm sounding from everywhere.

You turn the corner and see a couple doors on either side of a short corridor that opens in to a waiting/seating/all purpose area infront of something similar to a check in desk at a hospital.

Looking closer you find two dead bodies (nurses most likely) laying in plain site with several overturned chairs. Blood splattered on the walls as well the computers at the desk appear to have been ripped open and the screens shattered.

There is a double door leading out of the waiting room with a map of the facility sitting in a shattered frame next to the door.

What do you do next?

Take the map from the frame, then examine map and the bodes.

You examine the map, if it is correct, you are on a second floor of a strangely shaped building. It does not specify the name of the building, and there are large portions of the building not shown on the map. The only wording you can find are the words,"In case of fire, follow red line," with a path in red highlighted through the halls.

You remove the map from its frame and roll it up into your waste bin/first aid kit.

Next you check on the bodies, neither has a pulse. This alleviates the need to watch another person die in your arms as the wounds they have suffered are equally fatal. One is a woman who appears to have three bullet holes in the center of her chest fairly close to each other. The other is a man in a similar uniform as the woman but he appears to have two holes in his chest and one wound on his head that just grazed the side of his skull.

Checking their pockets you find similar IDs to what the doctor had on him as well as assorted pens and folded up papers.

What do you do next?

(I apologize for ghosting yet another game, I do plan on working on my reliability for this kind of thing. I just want to say sorry to anyone that plays my games, this is kind of a sucky thing for me to do so often.)

You decide to take a pen from the nurse just in case there is anything important to mark on the map.

Next you decide to follow the red line on the map. It leads you through to a fire exit not too far down a hall from where you picked up the map. After descending the stairs, finding sever bullet shells on the ground blood splattered on the walls and bullet holes all around, you enter the ground floor. The sight nearly sickens you, there are half a dozen bodies down the main hall as well as more in the rooms attached to it. The floor has many large pools of drying blood. There doesn't seem to be any enemy combatants still in the building.

You continue further and find that the main lobby, past explosive breached metal doors, has another dozen or so dead bodies. These bodies are in fairly normal business attire as well as military uniforms and nurse's clothes.

Here you find two dead armed guards. After checking their bodies you find two handguns. They are standard Rus' 9mm sidearms. After checking the magazines and clearing the chambers, you reload and chamber a round into one of the guns leaving the other in your bin. You also decide to take one of their pants that are undamaged and fairly clean and the other's light vest which does have a couple holes in it but it is better than nothing.

You hold the side arm in your hand with a full 12 round magazine in as well as a round in the chamber, the spare magazine in your pocket has 9 rounds in it.

You exit to the parking lot to find several destroyed cars, a military transport with little damage, a few more dead bodies, and plenty of skid marks leading out of the parking lot.

What do you do next?

It was pretty interesting sounding, to bad it died before we found out what happened.

Also I'm not sure if a new GM would be able to run this without whatever the OG GM had in mind.
