D&D Online.
« on: March 17, 2009, 11:56:06 am »

Recently, my interest about D&D peaked. Since NOBODY (Not even the biggest nerds) play D&D in this hellhole, I'm looking for online alternatives. Is it possible to play D&D online for free?

Is the hellhole Bay12, or where you live?

Also, there are lots of D&D utilities for playing online, but you still need a group.

D&D Online (the MMO) ≠ D&D

I havn't played in a long time but unless they've completely redone the way the game is played you'd be better off playing WoW.

You can try a Neverwinter Nights "persistent world" (basically NWN playing like a MMO). It uses the D&D rule set and persistent worlds may have much better player interaction than D&D Online (the MMO). Don't bother with NWN2 though.

Hell, if we can get a Bay12 D&D game, that'd make me happy. It's just the matter of actually doing it...

Oooh! Double entrande!

I'd be in for a game, schedule permitting.

Blizzard is managed by dark sorcerers, and probably have enough money to bail-out the federal government.

If you want to play Dungeons and Dragons online

OpenRPG is your friend.

Though it may take some getting used to especially since the community has its own ettiquette.

Or Maptool. Though you would need preexisting online friends.

If that was kinda the case... couldn't he have just played it over AIM? So I guess he will need to go to Online Recruitment boards... I cannot remember its name but you get people who run Maptool and MIRC games.

If you need help getting used to OpenRPG Id be glad to help (assuming you will use it)

Do people still play Neverwinter Nights? I have all of the expansions, how do I set up the persistent world?

Ugh. Would be so much easier if somebody could just explain to me how to play D&D and invite me to a game.

Thanks for your advice guys.

Well, I actually play on Maptool and mIRC in one game, and just Maptool in another. Maptool doesn't log chats (not the versions I'm on anyway, I haven't checked the latest yet), and it bumps you down when someone says something so it's hard to back read an active chat. It does however provide the vital service of a map.

I would invite you along to one of my games but one of the groups is restricted, and the other one is... well, it might be better just to make a new group of players out of people from this board. The main difficulty is finding people with compatible scheduling.

It is always Friday, Saturday, or Sunday isn't it?

Ohh Online Gaming, your so funny! (50% first game dropout rate :D)

I am currently starting up Exalted starting this Sunday Woo!

"It does however provide the vital service of a map"

Yeah that part is nice. OpenRPG used to have such serious problems with maps... then the fog of war (which still isn't exactly fixed... well... maps are fixed... Fog of War... not so much...)... It has a map but I rarely if ever use it.

Map Tool is much easier I think... It doesn't require your map already be online right?

Looks like I'm out of luck then. I'd much prefer if you guys got a game going and tagged me along.
