You get a frozen !!dwarf!! encased in obsidian.

Why did goblins become dwarf-sized rather than narrow as they were formerly? (up to 40d)

You don't have to melt goblinite now.
OR:
Goblins kidnapped dwarven children since the first version. Some of the goblins fell in love with these little poor kids and had children with them (lets call this mix a gobdorf).gobdorfs were as evil_minded as goblins and looked like them but were as fat as dwarves. When 40d was released gobdorfs went insane and killed the goblins. So we now have dwarf sized armor from goblins.

Why can't we engrave dirt?

You can't engrave the dirt because it's dirt. The grains would just fall right back into the grooves that were "engraved".

Why is there still no way to signal a task or order as an emergency that overrides things like breaks, parties, eating, and sleeping?

Have you tried to get a dwarf to stop doing one of those things?!

How does a miner with no military training manage to kill a GCS with no difficulty, but my trained, steel-clad hammerdwarves and axedwarves manage to annoy it at best?

Because only one dwarf you just described is using the traditional dwarven weapon, which provides them with superiority over the soft and beardless and the hippies.

(Also, you can carve dirt, check out the beach sand statues some folks make.  No engraver worth his rum though would ever deem dirt to be worthy of his talents.)

Why do clothdwarves cry when I atom-smash masterwork socks, but they're perfectly happy to allow them to rot to shreds?

Clothdwarves consider natural deaths for their beautiful artwork the standard way of things.

Why don't dwarves think this for other dwarves?

They do. Burning, stabbing, melting, bashing, crushing, splattering, rotting, bleeding, suffocating, insanity, drowning, starving, and being killed in one hit by a tantruming child are all considered "natural deaths" in dwarf society. Dwarves do whatever they can to make sure they and the other dwarves get a death like this.

Why can legendary military dwarves kill anything in seconds, except web-spewing FBs?

Because they're distracted by the thought of FB silk socks.

Why do Forgotten Beast, Demon, and Titan materials cost so little, despite being incredibly rare and often fireproof?

Because they're incredibly rare, only dwarves realize their value yet.

Why can you burn off a dwarf's fat, but not their beard?

Without a beard, it wouldn't be a dwarf now, would it?

Why does exploding booze not kill dwarves? And since it doesn't kill them, why don't they get good thoughts?

Super expensive wares are that because they imbue the wearer with social status.  Others who see the ware have to know its a hard to acquire material.  If the material is too rare then its hard for a merchant to convince a wealthy buyer its worth ridiculous amounts of Urists.  They are so rare that often the craftsdwarf working with them is the first dwarf to ever work with that material.

Or imagine your skepticism when a merchant says, "This crown was made from the scales of a Ruby Griffin."  Those could be ordinary rubies or cleverly blown glass.

Why does a farmer refuse to build a farm plot simply because there's a dead moth or hamster laying there because it was killed by a cat? There's a word for dead vermin in farm fields ... FERTILIZER.

Or perhaps they are just too scary stuff for most buyers to buy. Would you wear something which is make from plague breathing, acid drooling giant bug thing? Possibly with some nasty syndrome...

Orphanage closures. Tough economy for all of us.

Why wasn't my last question answered?
