Title: Sappho's Great Big Bundle Clear-Out Giveaway
Post by: Sappho on June 30, 2014, 06:49:23 am
Hi, everyone. My name is Sappho, and I have a bundle problem.

(Hi, Sappho!)

I bought my first bundle about a year ago. It was hard, that first time. I hadn't spent money on video games in so long. But there it was, just such a good deal. It was the Spiderweb Software bundle, one of the Humble Weekly Bundles. 15 games for less than $3.50. FIFTEEN games! I bought them. I bought them all, and it felt so good. Suddenly I had all these games. And then there was another weekly bundle, and another! Even when I only wanted one game in the bunch, it was still cheaper than buying it on its own. Most of them were only $1. And then I found Groupees. It wasn't long before I had every bundle site bookmarked. I checked them every day. Indie Gala. Indie Royale. Even Indie Game Stand's daily deal. I signed up for Steam, something I thought I'd never do, so I could redeem my keys. The list of games got longer. I spent more and more time playing, but I couldn't keep up. There were just too many games. I'd never play them all. But still, I kept buying.

Right now I buy around a bundle a week. Many of them contain games I'll never play, or duplicates of ones I already own. I don't know if I'll ever be able to get my bundle buying under control, but I do know one thing: I've got a whole hell of a lot of extra keys kicking around, and they need to be put to use.

I've spent several hours going through all my bundle accounts and tallying up the games I don't want or already have. I'm saving a few for Christmas presents, but for the most part... It's time to get rid of them. It's time for a giveaway.

THE RULES
1. Post here to sign up for whatever games you want.
2. You may sign up for as many as you like.
3. Winners will be drawn at random using random.org's tools.
4. Games are awarded in the order they are listed, 5 per day until we run out of games.
5. Signups last until midnight on Saturday (GMT+1). Drawings begin on Sunday.
6. Please put each new request in a new post (ie, if you've signed up for 3 games, then see something else you like, make a new post rather than editing the old one, to make it easier for Sappho to keep track of everything).
7. No Escaped Lunatics! If it looks like you made your account just to sign up for this giveaway, you will be disqualified

Games to follow in the second post. I am putting up the list now to give people time to sign up, but I am going away tomorrow and won't be back until Friday evening. So go ahead and start signing up, but know that I will not get a chance to update the list until Friday or Saturday.

Good luck to you all!

Games are listed by web site and bundle I got them in, as they were listed in my various account libraries. Any games marked with (?) mean I'm not 100% sure if I have used the key already or not, so feel free to sign up, but be prepared for the key possibly not being valid.

... huh. Well, I'll throw in for Wizardry 6 & 7 and Aquaria.

Out of curiosity, if we foisted some similar bundle chaff off on you, Sap, would you be alright with that?

OK, Frumple is signed up. (I'll keep up with it until I leave tomorrow, then I'll be back Friday evening.)

Sure, you can add more games if you want. I'll add them at the end of the list. The giveaways can keep going until all the games are used up.

Oh, I'm such a sucker for free stuff. Especially since I don't have a credit card so my only use of Steam has been receiving gifts from others, and local game prices here are as bad as Australia, if not worse.

Planet Stronghold
Sid Meier's Railroads!
Aquaria
Ultionus: A Tale of Petty Revenge
Deity Quest
Astro Tripper

...To be honest, I was kind of expecting to list more, given the size of the list. Oh well.

In any case, I'd like to enter for Sid Meier's Railroads! since fuck yeah trains and all that.ž

Thanks for this!

I'll have to make some artwork for this too now :v

OK, list should be updated up to this point. Glad to see people signing up. It's not generosity so much as a sort of house cleaning. : ) All of these are either things I have no interest in playing or duplicates of games I already own. It only makes sense to share them with all of you!

Oh, and...

Then just... oops, I finally bought that three days ago.

:P

I guess I'm not signing up for anything, but you're still awesome for this. Even if it's just house cleaning, it takes effort to organize things like this, and there's some great stuff on that list that should make whoever gets it very happy.

Chiefwaffles is signed up.

Choppy and Stabbymcstabstab, I actually have a plan for the games that don't get any signups, so I'm going to hold off on putting anyone on "all the games." I'd rather they go to someone who actually wants them and will really play them. If there's any more that you really want, I am happy to put your names on the lists.

It's 13.45 over here (1:45 pm) and it's your last chance to sign up for the first five games! I'll update the lists when I get up tomorrow morning, then do the first drawings. Signups will remain open for each game until it is drawn, and I will only do five per day, so there's still time if you want something further down the list.

No sense in passing up free stuff.

Could you sign me up for Serious Sam 3 and that Sherlock Holmes carpet mystery? I'm a sucker for a deerstalker.

Thanks for the chance!

Hear ye! Hear ye! A key to the game Antichamber has been added for drawing! You have plenty of time to sign up, but don't wait too long. The days move past with ever-increasing swiftness, and they never slow back down.

Also, will the owner of a blue Echo please move your car. This is the internet, not a parking lot. You are clogging all the tubes.

With all that nonsense out of the way, it's time for today's drawing! Can I get a drumroll please?

No?

Well, please imagine there is a drumroll anyway.

Sherlock Holmes: Mystery of the Persian Carpet has been rescued from the island of unwanted games by smirk!

There was a bit of a skirmish over Sid Meier's Ace Patrol, but in the end, BlindKitty walked away victorious!

In a similar skirmish, Sid Meier's Ace Patrol: Pacific Skies was shot down and carried home by thoball!

But the real battle was over the copy of Sid Meier's Railroads. The combatants raged for three days and three nights in the ultimate showdown of this giveaway so far, but in the end, it was Bouchart, exhausted, drenched in sweat and the blood of his enemies, who emerged victorious!

Finally, in the afterparty, a copy of Sequence was awarded to i2amroy for his funky fresh breakdancing skills.

That's all the games for today! Please make your way out of the arena in a calm, orderly fashion so as not to trample smaller contestants. Winners will get their game keys in PMs over the next few minutes. See you all tomorrow!

You're welcome everyone!

I stopped working on the DF StoryNexus game a while back. I realized that what I was trying to do was a bit too complicated for the limitations of that platform. I did start making a new game for SN, but slowly moved away from that one as well, again because of limitations (specifically, a painfully low limit on number of characters you can use in certain descriptions which threw my plan for an entire game mechanic out of whack). I might go back and finish that one eventually (removing the unworkable mechanic and making the whole thing simpler), but not anytime too soon. Now I've got RPG Maker and I'm trying to finish my first game to learn how to do everything, then I'll move on to the project I really want to make. It will probably take a while, since I'm learning how to code for the first time, and also trying to finish a novel and have lots of other work to do. And, of course, I have games like Skyrim and One-Way Heroics messing with my free time. But I am not idle! : )

The announcer approaches the podium. She's looking a little shaky today. The sparkle in her eyes is tainted by frequent glances toward her bed. She's muttering something under her breath, now. Something about "ten in the morning" and "late enough." She hesitates, but then... Yes! She's opening the envelope. She's taking the microphone, folks. She's going to do it!

There are two copies of Papo y Yo going out today. The first one goes to the very excellent forumite Vector! The second... To the equally excellent forumite aristabulus! That's two copies for two great people! Enjoy those!

She's not as witty as usual today, folks, but she's powering through. She appears to be waking up a bit more as the happy feelings of giving away games rush through her.

Next up is Joe Danger 2: The Movie. And the winner is...

What's happening? She's got the envelope open, but she looks confused. We're not sure what's going on here, folks. Okay, she's taking the microphone again.

I'm afraid there is no winner for Joe Danger, everyone. No one signed up for it. No one... No one wanted it.

A stagehand is running on to the stage now. They're whispering. Looks like they've come to a decision.

Okay, everyone, it looks like this is our first candidate for the Island of Unwanted Games. The game will be added to a special category at the end of the list of games. It will now be a candidate for external giveaways. If you can find someone, in real life or online, who wants this game, regardless of whether they are a Bay12 member or not, you can nominate that person to receive the game. When all the regular drawings have been completed, we will draw a winner from the list of nominees and arrange for them to receive the game. If there is still no one who wants it, I will ask for your help finding someone random on Steam who has it on their wishlist, and they will receive it.

That glimmer in her eye is returning, folks. Looks like she likes the idea of making some random person's day with a free game.

Now, back to the regular drawings:

Bit.Trip Presents... Runner 2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien is an excellent game, fast-paced, fun, and now the property of Metalax!

There were 4 entrants for Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams, but the gods of RANDOM NUMBER GENERATION have spoken, and they have decided the game must go to Bitoru!

Finally, the always popular Aquaria. The RNG gods are favoring higher numbers today, because the winner is Krevsin!

That's all for today, ladies and gentlemen and everyone else. Please return tomorrow for the next 5 games! I love you all!

|She's up bright and early today, folks. She looks confident. She clearly went to bed at a more reasonable time last night. Let's hope she doesn't get cocky and overdo it.

Wussup GAMAAAAAHHHHHHHSSSS?!?!?!?

Is she... Is she flashing the metal sign? This doesn't look good, folks. The crowd is not really responding. There are a few people here and there reluctantly returning the sign, but they look a little embarrassed. Alright, she seems to have realized her mistake. She's clearing her throat. Let's see if she can save this event, for all our sakes.

Um, I mean, uhh... Good morning, everyone. Welcome to the giveaway.

And now she's bowing in the Japanese style. Still not quite on the mark, but it's being a lot better received than the last attempt. I think maybe she should move on and just hand out some free games. She's opening the envelope now. The big moment has come.

In the category Broken Sword: Director's Cut, the winner is... aenri!

Aenri is taking the stage. He's accepting the game. He looks pretty happy, folks. He reaches for the mic, ready to say a few words... And Sappho pulls it away! Wow! She is not giving up that microphone for anything. Alright, aenri is leaving. He seems satisfied enough with the game. Sappho has calmed down a little. She looks ready for the next one.

In the category Waking Mars, the winner is... BlindKitty!

I believe this is BlindKitty's second win in this competition. Still wearing that signature cat mask, we're actually not positive about this user's gender, but they're approaching the stage anyway. What's this? They've crouched down on the other side of the podium? They seem to think they are hidden. What are they doing? Is that... Are they trying to ambush Sappho? Ah, but she sees the end of the mask sticking out. She's confronting them. BlindKitty is spooked, folks! The ears are back, the hair is standing on end... The kitty is leaping! It's got the game! And BlindKitty is gone, folks! Long gone! I didn't realize a kitty could move so fast, ladies and gentlemen. That was impressive.

In the category Q.U.B.E., the winner is... choppy!

Choppy struts his way up to the stage. He's posing a bit before accepting the game. He's trying to get the crowd riled up, but they already seem a little jaded after Sappho's earlier attempt. Alright, he's got the game now. He's looking at the microphone, but Sappho's eyes are looking like BlindKitty's were a few moments ago. I don't think he's going to risk it.

In the category Ku: Shroud of the Morrigan, the winner is... notquitethere!

No big surprise there, as he was the only one who showed any interest in the game. Notquitethere slinks toward the podium. He looks pleased. He looks very pleased. He's smiling at Sappho. She's gripping that microphone tightly, just in case he gets any ideas. He's reaching out gently for the game. She passes it to him cautiously. He takes it slowly, so as not to startle her. They smile at each other. And this one seems to have passed without incident.

And finally, in the category Ultonius: A Tale of Petty Revenge, we have two copies to give away, and two entrants, which means that both Boksi and Il Palazzo each get copies! Get up here, guys!

They're running up to the stage! And music is starting to play! They each take their copy of the game. They're grinning madly. What's that, now? They're exchanging conspiratorial glances up there. What is going on? What's this? Sweet Armok, they're dancing! They've prepared some sort of choreographed dance, and they've integrated the games as props! This is fantastic! The crowd is going wild! They're loving it! Sappho is loving it, too! She looks excited, folks, she looks very excited. And she's-- Yes, she's joining in! Oh, but she's making a few wrong steps there. Ladies and gentlemen, I don't believe she was in on the dance preparations. Boksi and Il Palazzo are looking a little annoyed. But, wait a minute... Wait a minute! Is that Aenri, BlindKitty, and Choppy sneaking back up to the stage? They've got the microphone! They've got the microphone, everyone! Sappho hasn't noticed yet. She's noticed! The music is fading out! The winners have escaped with the microphone! Sappho is not happy, ladies and gentlemen, not happy at all. I think maybe we'd better cut this one short before someone gets hurt. Come back tomorrow, folks, for the next five winners, and hopefully some tranquilizers for our host!

Good news, everyone!

I've given in to my weakness once more and purchased the Pretentious bundle on Groupees. (It's actually got some nice games, and some excellent music as well.) As usual, there are a few games I either already have or don't want, so I have added the following three games to the list:

Borderzone (http://store.steampowered.com/app/289220/)
This one is the first game I've ever seen on Steam with 100% negative feedback. It looks just awful. Be sure to sign up! You can always give it to that relative you don't really like when Christmas time rolls around!

Making History II: The War of the World (http://store.steampowered.com/app/46770/)
This one looks like a good quality game for those of you who like this sort of war strategy thing. I don't want it! Someone take it!

T.E.C. 3001 (http://store.steampowered.com/app/280910/)
I have this game already! It is fun. Run! Get stuff! Jump over things! Move fast! Who doesn't love these things? Virtual Reality!

Sign yourselves up, friends. Do it for justice.

When Sappho comes home after announcements, she finds somebody sitting in the kitchen. With a mask. And a microphone on his lap.

Just came to say thank you, without all those hungry gamers around.

He gets up and gives her the microphone back.

In case you will need it later.

She can't see it under the mask, yet somehow she knows that he smiles. And it is a pleasant smile, not the terrifying one.

You deserve a great many thanks for what you do here. And yet, I didn't come here without my own interest in mind, unfortunately. But since I see nobody willing to go get Hyper Gauntlet, I could get this one. It will find some love this way.

He waves and gets out through the window, and leaves her a very, very nice sandwich on the table, in case she is hungry after all that giving away.

BEGIN DAILY GIVEAWAY

Pleasant time of day to all, and welcome to the giveaway. We will be giving away five games today, and we pledge that we will not discriminate based on age, race, color, gender, sex, orientation, country of origin, first language, favorite color, taste in music, eye color, hair color, weight, or any other factor. Names will be drawn at random, using the tools provided at random.org, generally acknowledged to be a neutral, disinterested party.

The first game is: Virus Jigglin' Fever (Desura)
As of yet, no user has come forward to request this game. As such, it will be relocated to the Island for Temporarily Owner-Challenged Games, from which it will be redistributed as quickly as possible.

The second game is: Deity Quest (Desura)
The winner of this game is: Boksi
They may redeem the game as soon as they sign the affidavit declaring that as a player of Deity Quest, they do not intend any offense towards religious or non-religious groups of any kind, and that the game is being used purely for wholesome entertainment.

The third game is: Hyper Gauntlet (Desura)
The winner of this game is: BlindKitty
They may redeem the game as soon as they sign the affidavit declaring that as a player of Hyper Gauntlet, they understand that this Video Game contains fast-moving images and bright colors, and they do not hold either the developer of the game or the organizer of this giveaway responsible for any seizures or nervous breakdowns suffered as a result of playing.

The fourth game is: 6180 The Moon
As of yet, no user has come forward to request this game. As such, it will be relocated to the Island for Temporarily Owner-Challenged Games, which is not intended to reflect poorly on the game, and where it will be cared for in the most taxpayer-friendly manner available.

The fifth game is: Noir Syndrome
The winner of this game is: choppy
They may redeem the game as soon as they sign the affidavit declaring that they have no intention of using the game as a training mechanism for film-noir-style gangstery or any other illegal activities, and swearing not to shoot anyone in real life, even gangsters, cause those dudes would straight up kill them for that shit.

Thank you very, very much! Also, I'd like to be scratched from Gun Metal list - I've already received more than fair share (and alas, I'm in for one more game that is non-loved by anyone besides me), and I'd be happy to improve the odds of the other contender to that title (to 100%, no less). :) I think I'm safe to say that not only I am, but we all are very, very grateful for that giveaway. :)

Ajustments have been made to the list. The next round of games are ready to be drawn.

She's approaching the podium. Her posture is good. She looks fairly confident.

For my first game, I'll be giving away Nosferatu.

She has the envelope. It's not sealed. This should be an easy start for her today. She gracefully lifts the flap and removes the card with the winner's name on it.

The game goes to choppy.

Some applause from the crowd on the smooth first giveaway. Let's see what the next one has in store.

My next giveaway will be Sugar Cube: Bittersweet Factory.

This envelope is sealed, now. The difficulty shoots up quite a lot in these cases, not sure how she's going to handle it... Ah, and it seems she was expecting this. She's got a letter opener! She inserts in smoothly, good cut across the top of the envelope. That was very gracefully done, and she hasn't missed a beat.

The winner is: choppy.

There's some stirring in the crowd. That's two games in a row. The judges are conferring. Has there been a mistake? They're going over the sign-up list. Sappho is waiting patiently for their verdict. She doesn't look worried at all, folks. Ah, the judges have reached a decision. It appears choppy was the only one interested in either of those games, so it's perfectly in accordance with the rules that he win twice in a row. I'm sure we're all relieved to hear that. No foul, and Sappho doesn't look surprised at all. She's taking the next envelope without any hesitation.

The next giveaway will be A New Beginning.

We have to note for our audience that this game is listed with a question mark next to it. That means it's unknown whether the key will actually be valid. We certainly hope it will be. Alright, she's inserting the letter opener, and-- no! She's dropped it! She's dropped the letter opener, everyone, and it's clear from the look on her face that this was NOT intentional! It has clattered away and right off the stage. She's looking nervous, now. That is going to cost her big time. Is she going to go after it? No, it looks like she's decided to use her finger! It's a bit rougher than the letter opener, but she's got the envelope open. Here's hoping that doesn't knock her out of this giveaway altogether.

The winner is Il Palazzo.

Again, not a surprise, as he was the only entrant. Sappho's face is looking a little red, there, as she takes the next envelope. She still doesn't have the letter opener, and she's going in with the finger again. This is not looking good. The edge is very rough, several small scraps of paper have fallen to the ground, and-- oh my gods, she's ripped the envelope. It's a small rip, but still, it does not seem likely that she's going to get through this with her reputation intact.

The winner of A-Train 8 is Bouchart.

Bit of a breach of protocol, there, as she did not announce the game before opening the envelope. This has been a rough day for Sappho. Fortunately, we're down to the last game, and it will all be over soon. She's got the final envelope. She's trying to slip her finger in, but it's not working. This one is sealed down tight, no gaps whatsoever. She's looking pretty panicked up there. She's grabbing at it frantically, but she can't get a grip. Sweet Armok, now she's using her teeth! She's got a corner in her mouth and she's just desperately trying to get the damned thing open. We can see the judges shaking their heads. It's all over for Sappho. Finally, the envelope has torn, and... It was a trick! It's not an envelope at all! It's just a piece of paper printed to look like an envelope! The judges are laughing. They seem to think this is very funny indeed. Sappho seems to have gotten the message now. She's not pleased at all.

There is no winner for Beatblasters III. No one has signed up for the game, and it has been moved to the Island of Unwanted Games.

The judges are still laughing. Several of them are wiping away tears. Uh-oh, Sappho is headed over to the judges' table. She looks angry, folks, she looks very angry. She's picked up the fallen letter opener on her way and... Sweet Armok, no! Uhh... I think we need to cut. We'll be back tomorrow, and thanks for watching.

Dear Diary,

I'm so confused, I don't even know where to begin. You know those nightmares I get all the time, where I rush off to get where I need to go, then arrive to discover that there's no one else there? You know that feeling I always get, that sick feeling in the pit of my stomach, when I'm the only person in a room or on a tram or something, and I worry that I'm not supposed to be there?

When I arrived at the arena this morning to give away the next set of games, I was prepared for a huge backlash over yesterday's... incident. I definitely didn't expect the judges to show back up again, after our little "encounter" with the letter opener. I never expected that the whole place would be... empty.

I had to turn the lights on myself. The door was even locked. And no one was waiting outside. Not one fan, not one protester. Not even today's contestants.

Naturally, I'm afraid I'm not supposed to be here today. I would say that maybe we're taking Sundays off, except the first giveaway was last Sunday! It doesn't make any sense.

So maybe the powers that be have decided to cancel the giveaway. But wouldn't they have let me know? Wouldn't there be people here cleaning the place up, at least? The whole thing is so eerie. Like an episode of the Twilight Zone.

Well, I tell you what, Diary: I'm not going out like that. To hell with this arena. I've still got their microphone buried in my backyard, and I'm gonna dig it back up and take to the streets. I will march all over this great city, proudly declaring the winners and handing out their games! I will not be stopped!

Epigenesis will go to choppy, because that guy has a thing for games no one else wants!

Gun Metal will go to USEC_OFFICER, because of the generosity of BlindKitty!

Luminosity (Desura) will be moved to the Island of Unwanted Games, for great justice!

Sang-Froid: Tales of Werewolves will go to GiglameshDespair, victorious in the draw!

And Airship Dragoon (Desura) will go to USEC_OFFICER, because of reasons!

That's right, Diary! I'm giving out these games, and no one can stop me! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAA!

List updated. Youtube channel is here, but there's very little on it right now. I'm not doing it for fame and fortune, just for shits and giggles. I take requests, and I'll update my signature soon to include both a link to the Youtube and a link to my Steam profile so you can see which games I have.

Today is a big day for giveaways, but I'm a little bit too exhausted to make it interesting today. Very little sleep last night, early morning appointment at the tax office. So I'm just gonna throw these out there. You can just imagine that I'm holed up in a bunker somewhere, hiding from the zombies, and sending these out via flashes of light in morse code, because damn it, the games must be given away! If we fail, the zombies win!

Bionic Dues goes to uber pye!

Telepath RPG: Servants of God (Desura) goes to notquitethere!

Guns of Icarus Online: Collectors Edition goes to Moogie!

IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946 goes to Iceblaster!

And Shufflepuck Cantina Deluxe (Desura) goes to the ISLAND OF UNWANTED GAMES.

Thanks for playing, everyone! See you all tomorrow! If the zombies don't get me first...

EDIT: And USEC_OFFICER, if there's a specific game you'd like to take yourself off of, let me know, but don't feel guilty about winning a lot of games. There are a LOT of games to be given away. I'm leaving you on for now. : )

Devastation. The zombies have consumed so much of our desire to play games. They still mill about outside, moaning with hunger for our enthusiasm and enjoyment.

Three games flee to the Island of Unwanted Games, where they will be safe from the undead menace. Good luck, Body Changer, Bad Bots, and Rush Bros. Enjoy the party while we humans try to fight off the monsters of apathy and boredom.

It looks like there is little hope left. But wait! There is a light! A beam of energy coming from a small, lonely bunker where a sole human hides in secret. It's a game! We are not defeated!

The beam of light is Starpoint Gemini, and it travels across the world to Krevsin!

And a second beam of light! This one is World War II: Time of Wrath. It bounces around, inspiring hope in the eyes of all the survivors it passes, finally coming to a stop in front of BlindKitty!

The games, they are still alive! Survivors across the land are filled with optimism and a tiny glimmer of joy. But the zombies have noticed the light as well, and they are searching for its source...

Will the zombies discover Sappho's secret hiding place?

Will the survivors discover a way to defeat their undead enemies?

Will the games on the Island of Unwanted Toys have a super-sick party?

Tune in next time to find out!

You're a star, Sappho. Ku: Shroud of The Morrigan was pretty naff (but at least took very little time to complete) but Telepath RPG is shaping up to be quite interesting, it's got solid tactical rpg mechanics and even a card-game-within-the-game that I've lost then won a lot of in game currency on, so all shaping up well.

A tiny hatch opens on the roof of the bunker. Slowly, quietly, a strange device rises out of it. It's a periscope, and a beacon, and there's a lot of steampunky pipes and gears and stuff attached to it. It's glowing. It's definitely mysterious.

It broadcasts a message to all the survivors in the world. The games are not dead. The zombies have not won. Stay alive a while longer. Be ready.

It then sends out five more crackling beams. Is it light? Is it lightning? What the hell is that, anyway?

The first beam consists of Mata Hari. It goes straight to notquitethere, first knocking politely on the door to be let in.

The second one is made entirely of Kingdom Tales. It sails gracefully through the air, lightly bonking stabbymcstabstab on the forehead.

The third is none other than Time Gentlemen, Please / Ben There, Dan That, which halts just in front of Krevsin.

The fourth has been positively identified as Cargo! The Quest For Gravity, which is quickly snapped up by Aklyon.

The fifth looks like Gateways, which bows humbly before aristabulus.

One last signal goes out. It promises five more tomorrow. For now, keep fighting the good fight.

A message arrives in the early hours of the morning. It's in some sort of code. It seems to outline a plan. Is someone finally coming to rescue us? Or will we have to save the world ourselves?

The Alien Zombie Megadeath will go to the Island of the Unwanted.

The Astro Tripper, Boksi, will lead the way to the meeting place.

Vitrium will be deployed by i2amroy himself.

Do you remember the Little Farm, where lives the strange old BlindKitty?

There will be a great Discovery! A Seek and Find Adventure, but it will be Unwanted.

Be prepared. Stay Alive.

And on that day, martnim became the master of the Air Buccaneers.

At the Dawn of Fantasy were the Kingdom Wars, led by a man most choppy.

But there was one figure who rose above all of them. On that day, he stood high on a pile of decapitated zombies.

He opened all the Doorways.

He slashed, and hacked, and Unhacked his way through the mob without fear.

He tracked down the one and only Fester Mudd, now a shambling heap, and relieved him of his Curse of the Gold for all eternity.

That man was named notquitethere. He wiped the zombie guts from the blades of his various weapons and strode towards the beacon of light in the distance. There was still more work to be done.

Here we have the Unwanted Game in its natural habitat. On the island, free from predators and zombies, the Unwanted Games frolic, throw wild parties, and attend group therapy sessions. It is hoped that one day compassionate, understanding gamers might adopt them all, but sadly, such adoptions are rare. Most of these games are buggy, unfinished, ugly, or just plain bad, and it takes a special kind of gamer to see past their flaws to the essence of Game inside them.

Ah, here we have a rare sight indeed: the arrival of new refugees. Each of these games has been rejected by the gaming community. They step off the boat, heads hung low in shame. Fortunately, the other Unwanted Games are sympathetic. They will care for the newcomers until they accept their place on the Island of Unwanted Games.

(Sad Sarah McLachlan music begins.)

Battle Group (Desura) (http://www.desura.com/games/battle-group) is a modern tactical naval combat simulator. Sadly, it can't live up to the Sid Meier's level of polish. The graphics look like they belong on a cheap flash game. One reviewer claims it gets frustrating in later levels, and feels like the game is cheating (or the programmers got lazy). However, it has an overall Desura rating of 8/10, and is probably not a bad game if you give it a chance.

Paranormal State: Poison Spring (http://store.steampowered.com/app/268810/) is a video game adaptation of a "reality" TV show about hunting ghosts or something. It's also a hidden object game, and apparently not one of the better ones. It gets bad reviews even from players who normally enjoy hidden object games. The characters are described as flat and emotionless, as is the voice acting. One review calls the game "beyond a joke" and claims it "sets the whole gaming industry back 30 years." This game suffers from very low self-esteem and could really use some attention. It would be perfect for a comedic Let's Play or a joke gift for a friend. I bet some kids might like it.

DIVO (http://store.steampowered.com/app/230760/) is a game about a hamster in a wheel in some sort of space tower thing, trying to climb it and collect shinies and not get hurt. The goal is to reach the end of each level. One reviewer says, "The controls aren't good, theres a timer(I HATE timers) and the controls are frusterating." Other users remark on the poor controls and difficulty controlling the hamster wheel. There is one positive review on the front page which we will now print in full:
Quote
ok

Evy: Magic Spheres (Desura) (http://www.desura.com/games/evy-magic-spheres) is a casual puzzle game where you shoot marbles at a long string of marbles and try to clear the marbles for points or something. It has beautiful fairy tale graphics and is probably an 8-year-old girl's dream game. Did you ever play Snood back in high school? Come on, admit it. You know you did. This is sort of like that. Surely, you must know at least one 8-year-old girl who needs a fun introduction to video games. We're all tired of the bulk of gamers being guys.

Sweezy Gunner (http://store.steampowered.com/app/295730/) is a 2d sci-fi shoot-em-up in an open world. Blow up monsters! Collect loot! Fight bosses! This game actually has lots of very good reviews, and is recommended for all the people who like to shoot things.

This is just a handful of the many Unwanted Games currently living on our overcrowded, underfunded island. Please, consider adopting one of these games into your gaming machine today. The therapy bills are getting very expensive.

You are receiving this message because you have been chosen. You have survived until now. You have not given into the temptation to just join the zombies and start eating delicious, succulent brains. There are others. We are strong. We have a plan. We will emerge victorious. We will throw all the dead zombies in a big pile and we will have a dance party on top of the pile and then we will set the pile on fire and continue the dance party in a circle around the massive bonfire. And then we will carve the zombie bones into trinkets which will we trade with the elves in exchange for barrels of sunshine.

GiglameshDespair: You are hereby given a quest to discover the Kingdom Elemental. We will need it to do alchemies.

Vector: Your quest is to discover the rare Blue Rose. It is an essential ingredient of our secret weapon.

sjm9876: We will need many Volts of electricity. The power lines have been down for days. Get them working again.

gigaraptor487: You will be responsible for cleaning up the huge pile of disaster that Garry's Incident caused. It's not going to be pretty. Sorry.

In other news, the Island of Unwanted Games would like to announce a bit welcome for their newest citizens, Slip. Housewarming gifts can be delivered to the island by fighting your way through the pack of zombies on the coastline and swimming across the lake.

Good luck, everyone. Humanity and Dwarfkind depend on you. Probably the Elves, too. I guess.

A foghorn rings out. The boat approaches. Lining the decks are five despondent games.

The residents of the Island of Unwated Games gather at the pier to welcome their new brethren. They form a gauntlet of hugs for each game to walk through before resigning themselves to their new fate.

Welcome, The Race For the White House (Desura). Perhaps the world has had enough of elections. Surely you'll be called upon again once the zombies are all set on fire.

Welcome, Zack Zero. Your beautiful graphics and good reviews weren't enough to impress back on the mainland, but we would all like your autograph.

Welcome, Subject 9. Your premise is pretty good. You're very flashy. But perhaps people just don't care about defensively-focused shooters with odd camera angles anymore.

Welcome, 8BitBoy. You wanted to be Mario. But Mario is already Mario. And he's better at it than you. Just be yourself, man.

Welcome, Inescapable. You-- wait, what was that? Did anyone else see that?

Something just got off the ship. Am I seriously the only one who saw that? It was just out of the corner of my eye, I know, but--

Inescapable! Inescapable is gone! Where did it go?

It can't have gotten far. Spread out and search the island. It must be--

The boat! The boat is pulling away! And look, there on the deck! It's Inescapable! And who's that up there holding the game over their head in triumph?

Why, it's Naxza! Naxza has taken the game! Congratulations, Inescapable! You're wanted after all!

Good luck with the zombies!

Die, zombies! Die! Think you can destroy my home? Think again! Muahahahaha!

Sappho looks up from the Minecraft window, distracted by a stray thought.

Zombies... Zombie attacks... Hmmmm....

AH! The ZOMBIES!

We have a special mission today. Three more games are getting on the boat to the Island of Unwanted Games: Hunter's Trophy 2 - America, Sinister City (Desura), and Rush For Glory (Desura). But we have received intelligence that the zombies have organized an ambush at the docks.

Zombies... Organized... This does not bode well.

We must protect the games as they get onto the boat.

I have two special assignments for this mission. First of all, we'll need a Deep Eclipse (Desura) to distract whoever is behind this attack. Aenri, are you up for the job?

Then, after we kick all the zombie hindquarters and set them all on fire, we'll need a Loot Hero (Desura) to gather up the gold pieces, weapons, and feathers they'll surely drop. BlindKitty, this will be your job. Take it seriously!

Sappho polishes her diamond sword and dons her diamond armor, slipping a flint and steel in her back pocket. Let's go kick some undead posterior.

Post by: BlindKitty on July 22, 2014, 12:38:00 pm
As the darkness starts to flow over the land with eclipsed sun, the strange, yet oddly familiar shape shows up on the hill not far from docks. For a casual observer, it might look like a disfigured horse... But it reality, it is a jet-black panther, with two huge bags strapped to its back, and a saddle with a short, young women sitting in it. The panther has a blindfold over the eyes, yet its face seems intelligent, or at least sapient. Its rider holds a long stick with a little net on the end, and as ship closes up to the docks, she opens the bags.
They are ready to loot.

And very grateful for the game, Sappho!

The zombies have amassed for a major offensive. The survivors have held them off long enough for the last refugees to get on the ship for the Island of Unwanted games, but they are starting to falter. The overwhelming numbers of the enemy, and their resistance to pain and death, have given them the upper hand.

There are still many hours until dawn. There is nowhere left to run, no place left to hide. Here is where we make our final stand.

Three survivors vie for leadership. In the end, it is the Unity of Command skill he obtained in the Stalingrad Campaign which pushes Stabbymcstabstab to the front.

"We will need strategy to defeat this enemy!" he cries, his voice carrying over the battle-scarred faces and flickering torches in the night air. "They have numbers. They have strength. But we have our BRAINS! And no matter how many of them they eat, they will never be able to match our intelligence!"

A ragged cheer rises from the crowd. Our brains. That is what they want. But these brains are ours.

"The seer Sappho has consulted the gods of Are En Gee, and they have spoken. Choppy must patrol the Borderzone. He will take with him the Cubetractor, our greatest defensive weapon.

"Meanwhile, Miauw62 must prepare the Antichamber, the secret weapon we have been developing underground since the Awards Show Disaster of a week or so ago, when the virus was released and this whole mess got started. The chamber must be ready when the zombies arrive!

"When tonight's battle is over, we will be like the fabled kings of Eador: Masters Of a Broken World! Especially you, GiglameshDespair, whom the gods of Are En Gee have chosen to lead the reconstruction efforts. It will be a difficult job, and it will involve dealing with a lot of nasty rotting corpses, maggots, and other such unpleasantness. But you've got the stones to do it! Whether you like it or not!

"But the fight is not over yet. Join together, hack and slash and burn! For the future! For the children! For the games!"

Prepare yourselves, survivors. Tomorrow will be the last day of final drawings. Starting the following day (Friday), I will draw ALL of the games from the Island of Unwanted Games which have been signed up for already. At that point, it will become first come, first served. Anyone who wants one of the Unwanted games may have it immediately, with the limitation that you may take no more than THREE games for yourself. On the other hand, you may take as many as you like for other people, and they need not be members of Bay12. All games must go, and all of them need loving homes!

The battle was intense. Wave after wave of zombies came at the survivors, but in the end, intelligence prevailed. With ingenious weapons and traps laid in strategic locations, the few were able to drive back the many.

Over the clamor of gunshots, shouts, and falling corpses, one voice rang out clear: "We are Making History this night! This is truly the War of the World!" It was Tronak, who was setting fire to the nearest undead.

As the first rays of dawn broke over the horizon, the last of the zombies fell. Cheers of victory could be heard all around the globe. The menace had been defeated! And now it was time for the long and messy job of cleaning up the mess.

The T.E.C. 3001 robot, an invention of Stabbymcstabstab, was employed to collect and stack the corpses. It took nearly a day, but the bonfires lit up the sky. Even as night fell and the instinctive fear of the darkness arose in every survivor, these bright beacons of re-death brought them comfort and hope. The worst truly was over.

In the weeks that followed, the survivors tried to start anew. A new Out of the Park Baseball club, headed by TripJack, was one of the first signs of normalcy.

Around the corner, the first restaurant, Cook, Serve, Delicious!, was opened by Iceblaster.

Bit by bit, normalcy returned. It would be many years before the world would be the same again, but maybe that was for the best. The survivors hoped that humankind had finally learned not to engineer highly contagious deadly diseases for use as biological weapons, especially during game giveaways. At least for the foreseeable future, the scientists would have bigger fish to fry, anyway.

Meanwhile, mostly forgotten and hidden away in the windowless bunker that had become her new home, Sappho sat in front of her computer on a Thursday night, anxiously pressing the F5 button on her keyboard. In her arms she cradled a dirty, broken microphone.

Passers-by sometimes claimed to hear strange sounds coming from that bunker, like ghostly feedback. But people just rolled their eyes at them, patted them on the shoulder, and said, "Suuuure you did." It had been a difficult war, after all. A little ringing of the ears was nothing to worry about.

Ladies, gentlemen, and all survivors: the battle is not yet over. The world is being rebuilt, but there are still many homeless games. What's worse, the Island of Unwanted Games is being demolished to make way for a bypass. We must therefore find homes for ALL games as soon as possible, lest they get crushed and buried by bright yellow bulldozers.

The following games have been adopted already. Many thanks to the kind-hearted souls who took these games out of the cold and into their homes and hearts.

Joe Danger 2: The Movie: SpiredWarrior (as decided by the gods of Are En Gee)
Virus Jigglin' Fever (Desura): Gamedragon
6180 The Moon (Desura): Naxza
Battle Group (Desura): aristabulus
Sweezy Gunner: sjm9876
Sinister City (Desura): aristabulus
Rush for Glory: aristabulus

There are still many more games that need homes. Ask around. Ask your friends. Ask your enemies. Ask your parents. Ask your children. Ask your friends' children. They're young; they don't know any better.

Each day I will spotlight a few games, but you can ask for any games you wish. Remaining games are First Come, First Served at this point. They need not go to Bay12 members any longer. Anyone who wants them is welcome!

-=Today's Spotlights=-

Beatblasters III (http://store.steampowered.com/app/246800/) - Action, platforming, rhythm game. Reviews say it has a nice soundtrack, though the controls might be a bit tricky.

Luminosity (Desura) (http://www.desura.com/games/luminosity-main) - Arcade game where you block off areas to trap space blobs of some sort. Looks like fairly simple fun. Has a decent rating on Desura.

Shufflepuck Cantina Deluxe (Desura) (http://www.desura.com/games/shufflepuck-cantina-deluxe) - A shufflepuck tournament in space! Has good reviews and looks fun. I actually have this one already, but haven't had a chance to try it out yet, so I can't offer a personal opinion.

Some people have tried to find the Fountain of Youth... Alas, they could only find the Fountain of Infinite Games while exploring the Twelfth Continent!

Thanks Sappho!  I promise the games will be fed and sheltered, cared for like my own flesh and blood.

Your thanks are all well and good, but what about the rest of these poor games? They still need homes! The yellow bulldozers are waiting! Bypasses have got to be built, you know!

=-Today's Spotlight Games=-

The Body Changer (Desura) (http://www.desura.com/games/the-body-changer) - Swap bodies! 3d Adventure! Polished, unique stylized graphics! Puzzles and Action! Good ratings and reviews on Desura!

Bad Bots (http://store.steampowered.com/app/235070/) - Fast-Paced Indie Retro Action Platformer! Mow down waves of evil robots! Lots of explosions! Save the world!

Rush Bros (http://store.steampowered.com/app/234490/) - It's a "Music Reactive Platform Racing Game." Multiplayer! Competition! Steam Trading Cards, Achievements, and Controller Support! Bright colors! (Note: This is one of the games I'm not 100% sure if I already used the key or not. Still, worth a shot!)

Come on, people. I can't lie down in front of this bulldozer forever.

Huh. The Body Changer seems really interesting. Mind if I grab it? Gunmetal was a hilarious disappointment by the way. It was so short I finished it in less than two hours.

USEC_OFFICER and sjm9876, your generosity will not be forgotten. Slip and The Body Changer will go home with you today, loyal to the last in gratitude for your rescue from bulldozery death.

There are still a lot more games to go, friends. I've updated the games list in the second post with links to every game. Please make your choices soon. I've been lying in front of this bulldozer for days and I REALLY need to use the bathroom.

-=Today's Game Spotlight=-

Alien Zombie Megadeath (http://store.steampowered.com/app/110610/) - With a name like that, how could you say no? It's a platform shoot-em-up with lots of alien zombies and explosions. What more could you ask for?

Discovery! A Seek and Find Adventure (http://store.steampowered.com/app/16000/) - Have you ever wanted to play a hidden object game show? YOUR DAY HAS COME! Statistically, women are more likely to play hidden object games than men. Gentlemen: Add this one to your library to impress the ladies, or gift it to a female friend you wish you impress. Or just play it, smashing stereotypes like the manly man you are.

Paranormal State: Poison Spring (http://store.steampowered.com/app/268810/) - It's a hidden object / logic puzzle game based on a fake reality TV series. Guys. It's too terrible NOT to play. Get Fraps running and record your romp through this game and you'll become a YouTube star in no time!

The hidden object game takes what is the worst aspect of point and click games, hunting the pixel, and makes it the game's primary mechanic. It's like making a text adventure based around trying to guess the verb, or a AAA game based around long loading screens.

So... Are you volunteering to adopt it then? : )

I might have to make a hall of shame at the end of this. Games so terrible that I literally could not give them away!

Pretty much all of the games have been featured at some point, now. It's up to you guys to help me find homes for them. Is there any way to search Steam profiles to find someone with the game on their wishlist? Or can anyone think of another place on the internet where people might want some free games (and aren't picky about whether they're really good games or not)?

This is what we have left!

Naxza, I'm so sorry to hear about your brother's condition. Naturally, I cannot think of a better home for 8BitBoy. A loving home for a game in need is really what we strive for here.

In fact, if you see any other platformers on the list he might like, he can have those as well. The community seems to be running out of steam, and there are still many homeless games that need love. You can keep them somewhere until he finishes one game, then present him with another. You will be the greatest brother there ever was.

Until you run out of games, after he has grown accustomed to receiving them from you regularly. At which point you will instantly become the worst brother of all time, your good deeds all forgotten. This is a price you will have to pay.

If you would like to find a good home for two games currently orphaned to my possession, Crusader Kings 2, and Spec Ops: The Line, I would not be adverse to either gifting them to you or simply handing them out myself, given sufficient interest. They've been sitting in my Inventory for a while now, and none of my friends seem to be interested.

Hmm.

Crusader kings 2 sounds nice, though I must ask:

Which DLCs do you have with it or is it the base game? Regardless, I am in.

To be honest, I'd rather not have to manage any more games. I'm really trying to get rid of the ones I have left so I can move on. : ) If you want to advertise for a game you have to give away, that's totally fine, but I'd ask you to manage the giveaway yourself. I'm in crunch time for some writing projects I have going for work, so I don't want to spend too much time on this now.

There are other giveaway threads, though, and of course you can always start your own! : )

Oh alright. I'll take Paranormal State. I looked at the description and it looks like it has a story and other puzzles and things so maybe I should play the game before making sweeping judgements.

I completed the Telepath RPG, it turned out it was just a sort of long prelude and you had to pay to get the full game. What I did play of it was quite fun.

Alrighty then, I'll make my own. Shouldn't be too hard to manage, figure I can use random.org's random number generator and assign each person a number, rather than paying for the "lottery" service.

Or even easier, put the list of names in the list randomiser (http://www.random.org/lists/).

If you notice on my list of games, I give everyone a number. It's easiest this way. You just to go random.org and immediately on the right-hand side is the random number generator. Change "100" to the number of people in the drawing and click the button. Tada! Instant winner!

Shame about Telepath RPG. They definitely didn't advertise it as a trial or anything in the bundle. Sneaky buggers!

You are welcome to Paranormal State. Congratulations! You are the winner! Hooray! : D

That's what I was thinking. Just put everyone in a Notepad++ document and use the line numbers for reference.

The other thread is up, and I put entrants for those games in the bottom of the post. (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=141476.0)

Friends, the zombie threat has long since passed, and it seems everyone is getting back to their daily lives. I'm going to consider this giveaway complete, but all the games still stranded on the Island of Unwanted Games are STILL looking for good homes. Some of them are very highly rated games, so please do have a look, and let me know if you want any of them. They will remain available as long as they don't have homes.

Thanks to everyone for participating. My bundle libraries are clean at last! Now I've bought Minecraft, I'm going to hold off on buying any more bundles unless I REALLY want most of them games in them. Minecraft is taking up most of my time anyway!

I'm also making Minecraft Let's Play videos. If anyone's interested in seeing a newbie making videos to try to persuade her mom to join (and ballsing things up a lot), feel free to watch! I am willing to take requests if anyone has any.
