Title: I like sleeping in the mud
Post by: Grendal on March 20, 2008, 01:01:00 pm
I am having some problem now that a baron and his cohorts have showed up. My dwarfs are sleeping in my outside barracks instead of rent ready rooms i have for them. I searched the forum and read about the Dwarf casinos using levers and copied it. It did not seem to help though. I have fabulously well to do dwarfs sleeping in the rain wile my military beats the snot out of each other inches away. They seem to ignore all those nice rooms i made for them. :( Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You probably made the bedrooms too nice. Try making the bedrooms as small as you can, and try not to put them in rooms with detailed walls. Also, use the cheapest beds you have and no other furniture.

Sounds like that might be it, the beds come from a fey carpenter. Thank you very much.

In the init.ini there is a flag to make all rooms zero rent. I am trying to get as many legendary dwarves as possible, they do not pay rent....

Also, make sure you made all those beds into rooms. Yes. All of them.

lol! Lyrax Im glad you posted. I went back and looked and three of them were not rooms. Zero rent sounds like fun I will probably do that on my next fortress when I try mods for the first time.

It's not a mod, it's a simple change in the init file that comes with the game.
Just open up Dwarf Fortress/Data/Init/Init.txt and change the line that says: [ZERO_RENT:NO] to [ZERO_RENT:YES]
I'm pretty sure you don't even need to make a new fort.
