Is there a way of (accurately) influence the actual spot of the starting location your wagon, other than playing around with the size of the embark?
Also, if my main biome is Untamed Wilds, does a corner spot of desert (wilderness) contain giant scorpions or not?

Probly get giants, and the wagon tends to be at the center i do belive.

Wagons seem to seek out large flat areas approximately in the center of the map.
If you embark over multiple biomes, you get both biome populations. There may or may not be GDS in that desert, but if there are they'll appear on your map.
Embarking over multiple savage biomes may cause horrible things to happen, such as badger overload or the scorpionocalypse.

Not that I know of. They seem to park in the middle, even if its steep. My reembarks tend to park right beside the orginals.

I do know that back in 2010 and 40d if you selected a biome with the F1,2,3,etc keys and had it selected when you embarked then your wagon would appear in that biome (with the exception of ocean/lake IIRC). I'm not sure if it still functions that way or not though.

Hey, that may explain why my wagon sometimes appears off-center even though the entire region is more or less flat! Thanks for the information. :)

Yup, it still works like that. Your wagon will appear in the biome that is selected when you embark, as close to the center of the map as it can get while still being in the selected biome.

wow, if this is still the case it should definitely be added to the wiki!

On some of the super bugged versions of maps that I've played, the wagon has a tendency of embarking at the highest point nearest to the center of the map. This often results in multi-level wagons on top of candy spires. :D
