((Sorry, I was out for the day.))^Already done^
Jessica shrugs it off, and eats a hearty breakfast before grabbing her bag and going outside to catch the bus to school.
It's alright.
Jess is homeschooled, to justify why she has a math test on Christmas Eve.
"Victor Sulu"Victor bundles up and heads outside. The MMA studio he teaches at is only a few blocks from Lake Michigan, so there's almost two feet of snow and plenty of wind. Frankly, that sentence was more an excuse to throw some exposition in than anything. Victor walks around, trying to figure out what's wrong. There aren't any cars around, which strikes Victor as quite odd indeed. Something in the air smells odd. Victor hears Jamie and Gretchen calling. They apparently read something on their phones or something. Whatever happened, there's still reception.
Walk outside and look around
Ehh, it's probably nothin'. Maybe I should call Bert and see if anything's up.Eric comforted himself with the thought that whatever was causing almost all sounds of a modern city to stop was probably nothing. He lived in an apartment, six blocks from the building he worked at. Grabbing clothes, Eric dialed his phone. It went to voice mail.
Eric Romani: Find phone, try to call associate.
Robert Stays and listens to the Radio for awhile, afterwards he talks to some of the other students about what is going on.Yup, the whole University of Chicago campus has been quarantined, along with a fair number of the surrounding blocks. It's just a voice describing the streets that bound the quarantine area, where there is allegedly some sort of barrier going up. Chatting with the other students reveals little he didn't find out from the automated, looping message. Probably the oddest thing is that Harold--the guy whose radio it is--says that the message isn't playing on any of the normal radio stations. Weird. Robert heads out for supplies, thinking of what and where he's looking for.
He will then leave and try to collect some supplies.
((Did I understand that right, there are abandoned cars in the road with doors left open?))You understand correctly.
Phillip Anderson starts to jog, but only gets a few paces before deciding this is too weird. He looks around. If no one is in sight to talk to he cautiously examines a few nearby cars. He particularly wants to know if there are signs of struggle, and if keys and belongings have also been left behind. If he finds nothing startling he returns to his apartment and tries to check the TV/Radio/Internet for a news report.
DERP.Jessica shakes her head and decides she needs breakfast before worrying about this kind of crap. She dials Kaitlyn's cell number. Kait's pretty much the only other homeschooled kid Jessica knows well.
Jessica eats breakfast while dialing her closest friend, Kaitlyn's, number.
Walk back inside to see what they read and look around for a weapon and some form of armorVictor, I presume?
"Victor"Jaime shows Victor her smartphone. On its diminutive screen he read about how the US government is refusing to explain its orders to evacuate Chicago. He scrolled back up, and discovered that Chicago was warned that if they did not leave by noon, today, they would be quarantined and probably die before the new year. The comments at the bottom of the page indicate that at least several thousand people are still in Chicago, most of which either can't or won't leave in part due to quarantine procedures going up and in part because of a "wall of abandoned vehicles" surrounding Chicago. There also seems to be a quarantine around the University to prevent people from being infected before they can escape.
Walk back inside to see what they read and look around for a weapon and some form of armor
Jessica says goodbye to Kaitlyn and decides to surf Youtube for a bit."Bye, Kait. Call me back if anything important happens."
Phillip A. listens to the message then attempts to contact a police dispatcher, or anyone else, on the radio.Phillip freezes. The university is quarantined? What the hell? It's like a scene from a bad horror movie. And that makes him...what? The washed up jerk cop who gets killed an hour in, or the hidden-kindness cop who turns out to be innocent and makes a heroic sacrifice? No thanks. Phillip's thoughts along this line are interrupted when his messages are replied to.
((Suggestion to other players if I'm not around in time to officially enter the next action: Go to apartment to eat, get warm clothes, supplies, and a personal firearm if he has one. (Internal Affairs is holding his duty weapon due to backstory) ))
So quiet, it's like the entire town got evacuated. I don't like this, better ask around. But then again, I'd sooner jump off the roof than leave unarmed...[4] Eric knocks on doors, truly disturbed. Most of the residents are off, presumably for work or last-minute shopping or early Christmas celebrations or something. However, he does find a couple of bachelors who were also disturbed, and a young family huddled around an old desktop Mac. That's everyone on this floor, but you don't get farther because the family explains everything that's been happening. Chicago quarantined, the streets clogged, public transportation abandoned by the drivers or leaving the city already in the case if some buses, etc. It's disturbing. Eric summarizes this info for the bachelors, then glances at a clock. Almost 11.
Eric Romani: Shuffle around apartment, look for stashed weapons. Try to find other people in the complex/neighborhood if possible.
'Christ did this really have to happen now, probably some terrorist shit or something. Godammit.'Yup, the phone clearly indicates that the University is quarantined and that the whole city will be at noon! With a shriek, you run for the door, pausing only to apologize to those you awoke, the last sleepers, and to explain what you had read.
Robert heads out and begins to explore the rest of the campus. He also checks his own phone for any news updates.
(( K wasnt sure ive played one or two before where the time ran out and everybody dropped dead on the spot if they hadnt made it to the safe zones. You can decide to ditch them if you can outrun them or if they can't or won't follow, but that would be mean.
Can i decide to ditch the girls if they become a pain?
But more importantly. Are they hot :P ))
"Victor"Victor hurries to the storeroom, assuring Gretchen that you'll go save Daren ASAP. They all get outfitted in the padded armor that fit them over their winter clothes and also what weapons they can find. Victor selects a wooden sword thingy, Jamie grabs two smaller ones, and Gretchen goes for this big padded mace thingy. The three head out, Victor grabbing a trash can lid, heading straight for Chicago University at a rather slow pace.
Go to the storeroom and collect 3 sets of padded armor that is normally used for training and instruct the girls to put a set on each and put a set on myself. Then go and collect wooden training weapons. Then begin heading for the university.
(( Didnt wanna make my move to long. ))
Definitely a major issue. God damn it, Bert probably got out of dodge already, and without telling me. Next time I see him...Eric tries to find stashed weapons, [2] but in vain; there do not seem to be any stashed weapons around. Eric does find a mop, though. It's better than nothing, right? Eric runs out the front door, but stops when he gets outside. A few blocks to the right is the back end of the "wall of cars" everyone's heard so much about, and Eric lacks a car of his own--he walks to work and uses a bus or the L when he needs to go somewhere else.He can't figure out where to go.
Eric Romani: Search for stashed weapons in apartment before getting the hell out
Jessica packs up her laptop (With all her notes and stuff.) and searches the house one last time.Jessica searches the house, finding her mother lying asleep in her room.
As she heads out the door to go to the mall, she starts dialing her Mom's number on her phone. Maybe she can come and pick her up.
Phil's thought proccess: "This is seriously weird, everyone's gone and I'm offered a chance to make all my problems go away if I just come in? Am I being manipulated? Why? They want me to come in urgently, but didn't think of it until I called? What's this white van thing about? You don't even need to be genre savvy to worry about this! I don't want to be the guy who gets killed the by conspirators or feds or whatever 10 minutes in to show the situation is grave. If theres some sort of contamination...what if I'm in the danger area..."Phillip has some doubts about all of this. It's just too suspicious. He tries to think of a logical explanation but finds none. Once he reaches the police station and into a heated patrol car, his mind clear up some and he realizes a plan.
Phillip Anderson is very suspicious. He operates the radio again, hoping to spot any evasiveness or manipulation. "Captain Samson, I haven't seen this van I'm looking for, I'm worried I might have gone passed it. Is it important, who's there anyway?" As he talks he walks onward, looking for the van, but not intending to approach it.
"Get the Fuck outta my way!"About a hundred or two hundred students have the exact same thought. The barricade is a plywood wall about 8 feet high, seemingly supported by something bigger and heavier. There are elevated platforms being manned by a swarm of police officers, mostly in SWAT uniforms and/or riot gear, all with white hood thingies over their heads, shoulders, and part of their chests. [2] Robert can't really get to the front of the crowd, but he manages to stay on his feet and inch through it. You hear a loudspeaker-amplified voice say, "Look, we've had enough. You all have ten seconds to turn around, or we shoot. Not fatally, that would be--" he cuts off. You see a man all in a white suit, like those things you see in movies when the doctors need to stay away from the plagues. "Geez, okay. Fire to kill, even though we're all probably going to rot in Hell for this."
Robert pushes and shoves his way through the hordes of students and runs towards the rumored weak-spot in the barricade.
Wait, when did you say Eric had a weapons stash?Well, it could be assumed as Eric is a shady character and may have... 'acquired' some in his career :P.
Hm...Let's say Eric retrieves a pistol, a dozen bullets, and a melee weapon of some sort.Wait, when did you say Eric had a weapons stash?Well, it could be assumed as Eric is a shady character and may have... 'acquired' some in his career :P.
Hm...Let's say Eric retrieves a pistol, a dozen bullets, and a melee weapon of some sort.Well I was leaving it up to the roll on that turn, so since I rolled 2 a mop seems appropriate in standard RTD faire :P. Though if you think that inventory makes things more interesting then go ahead.
Anyone can suggest an action for anyone, especially Robert.
"Victor"
Keep heading for the university and try to avoid being seen by anybody else who's on the streets.
Jessica packs her belongings into the car and waits patiently inside it.
Eric curses into the air loudly, First my weapon stash got raided somehow, and now the entire city's streets are choked! I can't get locked up here, maybe the metro is still up. Hell, if it isn't running maybe running the tracks will be faster than wading through the streets
Eric Romani: Check the nearest metro station, if the lines aren't running, brave the tracks.
'Fuck, Fuck, Fuck! What the hell is going on! Are we infected or something why are they shooting?'
These thoughts ran through Robert's mind as he ran in the exact opposite direction of the breach, grabbing any nearby attractive girls/friends that he can pull away from the gunfire with him.(without putting himself in too much danger)
"Robert"
Robert turns and runs full pelt down along the barricade and along the university fence looking for a spot that does not appear to be guarded.
Climb over if he locates one and quickly head away from the university.
Phillip Anderson attempts to speak face to face with Captain Samson.

"Victor"[2] On one hand, Victor head towards the university. On the other hand, someone notices him. [6v6v6v2] The three react quickly. Victor [2] misses with his sword, [1-1, 2-1] Jaime flings her swords into the air, and Gretchen [6] whallops the someone on the head really hard with the pugil stick--that's what they're called--and knocks him out while spraining her arm. One sword hits Jaime in the head, the other smacks the assailant's stomach. They didn't have a chance to interview him, but Victor has learned two valuable lessons. One, this city is swiftly becoming a dangerous, lawless place. Two,stay away from Jaime when she's swordfighting.
Keep heading for the university and try to avoid being seen by anybody else who's on the streets.
Jessica packs her belongings into the car and waits patiently inside it.Jessica packs stuff in the car and waits for her mother. She comes out of the house carrying two more bags of stuff Jess didn't think was that important but her mother did. She coughed a little and started the car.

Hell, if it isn't running maybe running the tracks will be faster than wading through the streetsEric heads swiftly for a Metro station and notes that they don't seem to be running. Don't they have a motto about rain or snow or stuff not stopping the trains? Maybe that's the Postal Service. Anyways, he decides to walk out on the tracks. Yup, nothing could go wrong.
Eric Romani: Check the nearest metro station, if the lines aren't running, brave the tracks.
(This totally can't go wrong at all...)
'Fuck, Fuck, Fuck! What the hell is going on! Are we infected or something why are they shooting?'

(( Wasnt sure if other players were allowed but in hes situation he's move is kinda obvious. People are shooting at him what is he gonna do? ))Robert hurries perpendicular to most of the mob's movement. [6] He grabs at a group of seven beautiful girls, who drag him away. Robert tries to drag them all the other way, [4v3,2,4,2,1,1,3] and two trip long enough to cause the others to stumble long enough for Robert to take control of the posse. [2] He tries to find a weaker point in the barricade, trying to explain his plan to the girls. [4,5,2,2,6,5,5] One suggests finding a building and going out it, another suggesting parkour (Did I spell that right?). The eight companions do so. [1] When Robert jumps, he breaks his leg, [4,1,6,2,6,1,4] as do two of the girls, while two others jump so fiercely that they hit the middle of the street and a fifth girl sprained her ankle. Oh, dear...
"Robert"
Robert turns and runs full pelt down along the barricade and along the university fence looking for a spot that does not appear to be guarded.
Climb over if he locates one and quickly head away from the university.
((Wow ok...things are moving rather quickly... In character I don't think Phillip even knows who's being shot at yet, could be zombie robot martians. So he will not interfere with anything...))Phillip goes to chat with Captain Samson. "What's this I'm hearing?"
Phillip Anderson attempts to speak face to face with Captain Samson.
Info Requests: How is Phillip currently equiped?
About how many officers can he see in the area of the barricade?
"Victor"Victor gets a bit chilly from ripping off some of his shirt after taking off armor and coat, but he'll be fine after a bit of walking.
Hand Jaime her swords back and then tear a piece off my top under the armor and wrap it around Gretchens wrist as a basic support and keep heading towards the university
"Mom, stop the car, I'll go check it out."Jessica gets out and goes to a car. It looks like it was hastily abandoned, the keys still in the ignition, a few boxes of granola bars and a lost stuffed turtle still in the trunk. All the cars are like that--no one inside. Weird, and rather hard to get through. Jessica returns to the car and say, "Mom, the cars are empty. Like, completely."
Jessica gets out of the car and walks over to the nearest car to ask about the situation.
(Sorry, busy busyness over here)[2] Eric continues along the tracks. With his limited supplies and knowledge of his more limited time, he moves quickly. Soon, he sees some sort of barricade being erected near the city limits and goes to chat with the cops near it.
An entire quarantine of Chicago, enough to scare them into stopping the metro? That's crazy. But if it's serious, there's absolutely no way I'm going to be stuck here til' I die. I'd rather get crushed than starve out in this city. There's probably hordes of people trying to get out, but no one's desperate enough to take the tracks. No one but me.
Eric Romani: Continue along the tracks, head to the end of the line before exiting.
"Robert"Robert tries to stagger up on his broken leg, [2] but fails. It hurts a hell of a lot. An officer comes over. "You guys okay?"
Go up onto the barricade and look down at what remains of the mob that tried to get out.
Phillip does what the captain says and waits for...well...he wasn't exactly sure, yet...[4] A single kid tries to be all sneaky and get to the barricade, but a single warning shot scares him off. He checks his watch...
"Victor asks , were would Daren be? "Your armor and coat are already back on, I assumed Victor wasn't an idiot or a yeti.
Put armor and coat back on then look for a way to sneak in
And don't start telling people to give actions after less than half a day. RTDs don't have to move this fast. Why not? I do believe that this is his game.
That was my thought. And don't start telling people to give actions after less than half a day. RTDs don't have to move this fast. Why not? I do believe that this is his game.
Besides, a quickly moving RTD is less likely to die.
"Victor asks , were would Daren be? ""Daren is...probably in his dorm."
Put armor and coat back on then look for a way to sneak in
A barricade in the goddamn metro. They're serious. It's getting closer to noon, I can't get through that barricade, they'll recognize me. I'll have to try somewhere else.[5, 1] Eric hides his pistol but manages to get lost when wandering around the edge of the barricades. Well done. You appear to be somewhere around the Museum Campus.
Eric Romani: Find nearest exit, head towards city limits. Keep that gun concealed this time.
Phillip tries to chat with nearby officers, about any of the following subjects they're willing to talk about:Side from a few people who were coming out of a nearby building, nothing of note occurs. This gives Phillip a chance to converse among his peers. They all heard that the whole campus is supposed to be infected. The quarantined area is a few blocks around the campus, and the inner quarantine is supposed to be held until quarter after. None of them know what the symptoms are--they've heard everything from instantaneous blood clotting to massive rotten areas to zombies. No one knows what's going on, and that scares everybody. Thank God the cops are getting airlifted after the quarantine over all of Chicago starts.
Size of quarantined area, just the college?
Heard rumors about what's going on?
Seen any of the sick?
NO.
Jessica grabs a box of Granola bars and walks with her mother, following the trail of cars. Maybe they'll find the owners...
And don't start telling people to give actions after less than half a day. RTDs don't have to move this fast.
"Jess"Jess grabs the bag full of her most important things, including her laptop and an old, fond stuffed rabbit that she's had forever. Climbing up on a car, Jessica can see some activity a mile or so ahead. She and her mother head up that way. Jess starts coughing.
Grab the things from the car, climb on top of a van or something and try to see over the cars.
Robert:"I suppose..." The cop is distracted by another guy, wearing some sort of padded foam armor and carrying a wooden sword followed by a couple of girls. While the cop is letting them in, you consider climbing up the barrier before realizing you are on the outside of the quarantine. You are driven to the hospital, a place full of dying people. You chat with the girls.
"What's the alternative, Dying in the streets?"
Try and get up onto the barricade, again.
"Victor"Gretchen keeps looking for Daren. [2] She is unsuccessful. [1] You find a duffel bag, but a rat crawls out and [5] bites Victor's hand.
Continue looking for Daren , Pick up a back pack or duffel bag if i find one and place all food , water and anything useful as a weapon within the bag
Augh, this is NOT the time to get lost. All the times I've been around this city in the night, and I can't even begin to stumble towards a goddamn road out of here![1] Eric manages to get lost, somehow ending up inside the She'd Aquarium. He can hear the dolphins chattering, asking for food.
Eric Romani: Continue search along the barricades
Jessica tells her mom to go on without her, she'll make it back.Jess's mom tries to embrace her daughter, but the police separate them. Jess watches as she goes through the barrier before it is sealed with another concrete mold.
Go with the police...for now. If there's a chance to escape, take it.
"Phillip"Phillip walks along the wall, noticing [4] some guy shouting about why they're all leaving the wall.
Phillip begins walking along the wall looking to see if he can find somebody to help.
" Victor "The rat nips again, but gets annoyed when Victor grabs the bag. Turns out it was a rat-nest. Erm, no duffel then. [3] He finds some Ramen noodles, though. [6] Gretchen finds Daren, but he's very sick...
Laugh and pick the rat up and rub it behind the ear before putting it down in the nearest open room, continue searching room to room and for Darren and place any food or drink i find that is not perishable into the duffel bag as i go.
Eric buries his face into his palm, The Aquarium. If anything I've only wandered further from the border. 10 minutes til' noon, but whoever's enacting this quarantine is letting healthy people out. I ain't sick, so no point in fighting the border patrol anymore.[6] Eric finds a hospital. It is a very popular hospital.
Eric Romani: Find a hospital!
Go with the police, and hope to god you don't have this 'disease'The police tell Jess to bug off and go to a hospital. She decides that sounds reasonable.
"Phillip"Phillip gets brought to an area where cops are gathering, packing up the gear. Some people swarm the helicopter's area, but some tazers and nightsticks drive them off. Soon, Phillip is out of town.
Ask another officer where to go for the airlift out.
"Robert"
Ask one of the doctors whats going on and look around
Hm, I was thinking of having him continue to have actions, but you have a slight point...Wait, there was someone who posted a sixth character a little too late!
@GreatWyrmGold You could just plot railroad him back into the city. Downed chopper or something, either on his way out, or he gets assigned to a recon flyover. Then his plot thread could converge with the civi survivors.Oh, I have my own plans for Phillip...maybe in a turn (the three-hour ones, not the one-action ones) you'll be able to control him...

>Go To Hospital[6] Jess makes it to a fairly uncrowded hospital.
Adrian Haw[3] Adrian stumbles to the television, turns it on, and hears a car commercial. Still half-asleep and hung-over, he slumps onto the couch, considering the merits of getting dressed now or later. He decides on now, and so just hears a news story. Something about a disease being studied at the University. Nothing major.
Waking up, hung over, Adrian notes that it's noon ((It's noon at this point right?)) Adrian thinks to himself Ugh, note to self: throwing up is your body telling you it is time to stop drinking Adrian then walks over to the TV and turns it on, the last channel the tv was on before being turned off previous was the news channel.
"Victor"[3] While Victor's logic doesn't seem to work on Gretchen, it works on Jaime, who helps Victor grab her. He then [2] tries to pick her up and carry her off but just ends up dragging her, kicking and screaming and followed by a vomiting Daren, through campus. Awkward much?
Pull Gretchen away from Darren take her and Jamie outside the room and hug Gretchen
"Im sorry but if you stay in there you'll get sick too. I cant let you back in that room"
Great, crowded hospital. Don't care how many sods I have to beat through to get out of here. I'm not sick and I am not going to be stuck here for the rest of my life.[1] Eric accidentally inhales some dust, sneezes, and gets dragged to a room and locked in. It's dark, and seems like some sort of neglected quarantine place. Someone else sneezes--sounds like there's at least half a dozen other people in here!
Eric Romani: Make way to the nearest Receptionist/Nurse/Doctor and ask to be tested.
"Victor[5v3] Victor drags Gretchen away from Daren, shouting at the latter. It's not easy, but it's necessary.
Drag Gretchen away and tell Daren to stay away before he kills us all
Adrien[6] Adrien comes up with a dozen ideas, and decides that about five of them would make great stories. He promptly stops worrying about how most of them are apocalyptic so he can start writing.
Look out window, try to remember if you knew of anything that would make the city quiet during Noon in this city
Ask the nearest Official-Looking guy what I have to do to get out."Head to a hospital and get tested.
"What?! Come on, it was just some dust! I'm not sick!"[4] Someone comes to the door. [6v6] You can't convince them to let you out.
Eric Romani: Bash on door, demand release. Stay away from others.
