Title: Roll to Survive: A Mystery/Survival RTD
Post by: GreatWyrmGold on September 13, 2012, 09:42:49 pm
You wake up and discover an empty city.

It is Chicago on Christmas Eve, 2012. There is no one around. You must try and figure out what's going on while not dying.

I will take five characters at a time. Actions for these characters may be suggested by anyone once we get started, although the original poster will get precedence. I'll do my best to incorporate all actions for a given character, though.

You may submit characters for when the current set buys the farm. A character submitted must have at least the following traits:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Submitted characters will be added to the Waiting List. The character on top will be the first to be added, obviously.

Current Characters:
Spoiler: Victor Sulu (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Jessica Blanc (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Eric Romani (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Robert Johnson (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Adrien Haw (click to show/hide)

Hmm...I guess I'm in.

Name: Jessica Blanc
Gender: Female
Age: 17
Profession: Chemistry Student
Description: Sleek Brown hair that's always kept in a ponytail, long white coat and (Normally) Green and Orange Clothes, deep blue eyes and a blindingly white smile. Jessica's primary course is chemistry, but she's not very good at creating anything useful.
Except  Explosives. Those happen a lot.
Why you overslept this day: She spent the whole night studying for a Math Test that she forgot about, and forgot to set her alarm for the morning. See kids? This is why you PREPARE.

Philip Anderson
Male
Age 33
Policeman

Description: Tall and thin, with close cropped brown hair which is starting to recede a bit. His eyes are blue, and he views the world through a watchful squint. He is a pretty nice guy, and generally has a friendly demenor. He takes his job seriously, and works to keep fit despite the long hours in a patrol car. He often jogs, which if I might suggest is probably what he is doing when he notices something is wrong. Since...

Reason To Oversleep: He is on "Administrative Leave" while internal affairs decides if he was justified in using lethal force in a recent shooting. He's kinda depressed about the whole situation and had no reason to get out of bed.

In,

Name: Eric Romani
Gender: Male
Age: 32
Profession: Janitor
Description: Short, greasy brown hair and equally greasy clothing. Almost never caught without a cigarette. And it would probably be best if he didn't hear one more smug line about your fancy degree or cushy IT job, capicé?
Why you overslept: When you're working the night shift, you have a tendency to not be conscious whenever there's sunlight. At least, that's what he tells whoever asks. More often he'll take off the night shift to visit some 'friends'...

Name: Robert Johnson
Gender: Male
Age 22
Profession: Pizza Delivery Guy/History Student
Description: About an average height and quite thin, Robert dark hair is stylishly messy. He is an intelligent guy with a poor work ethic who is generally well liked by the people around him. He makes sure to keep himself aerobically fit and plays a number of sports but he is still a pretty physically weak man.
Why you overslept: A heavy combination of alcohol and pills will do that, Robert is lost, hungover and just really wants to get to his bed.

Name: Adrien Haw
Gender: Male
Age: 23
Profession: Vehicle mechanic
Description: Adrien is of average build and slightly taller than the norm. As he works on vehicles he is fit, and has some strength to him. He's single, and, originally being from Vancouver, he recently moved to Chicago to see what life in the States was like. Adrien has a tendancy to get wasted on the weekends, which leads us to
Why you overslept this day: It was too expensive to fly back to Vancouver this year, so you stayed home and, feeling really homesick, got wasted Christmas night.

Leeme in!  I'm 7?

Name:  Cyrus (or pisskop)
Gender:  Male
Age:  23
Profession:  Grad student studying philosophy/psychiatry
Description:  Good features, strong posture, disciplined personality.  Believes in heavy austerity as the key to success.  However, as in this situation, he is prone to overindulge when he does relax.  While good looking and well-toned he is somewhat harsh and blunt in conversation.  [edit] 5'10", blue eyes, brown hair chropped into modified military cut.  High cheeckbones and large nose.  Small fingers and left handed.[/edit]
Why you overslept this day:  Got piss drunk (and hopefully laid) at chrismas party of friend's.

Sorry, Kedly and pisskop. I already chose the five I'm starting with. I'll put you on the waiting list; if someone dies, you can get people. Anyone can suggest actions for anyone, though.

Victor Sulu wakes up in his MMA studio with the girls he was "working out" with, Jamie and Gretchen. The three of them get some warmer clothes on and chat, considering what to do about breakfast, or perhaps brunch--it's about 10. After ten or twelve minutes and most of his second cup of coffee, Victor realises what's been bugging him since he woke up. It's quiet, with the sounds of the Windy City reduced to a breeze whistling across the new snow and the occasional pigeon trying to find a warmer spot.

Jessica Blanc wakes up around the same time, having fallen asleep studying for a math test. She was homeschooled, and her (divorced) mom was brutal about this kind of thing. She wouldn't get the morning off, and her afternoon was only free because her father couldn't meet with them on Christmas proper. She shuffled sleepily into the kitchen and wondered what time it was. Just after ten--WTF? Where was Mom? Jessica turned on the radio to listen to music while she made coffee and eggs, but nothing played but static.

Phillip Anderson woke up sadly. It's horrible, especially since it was Christmastime. Only another week until the hearing. He's late for jogging--three hours late, and he hasn't gotten breakfast yet--but who cares? He's got a free day. He sets out for jogging a bit after 10, and the first thing he notices is the snow, nice and white, almost covering the abandoned cars, doors left open, in both lanes pointing out. The Department's going to be busy today...

Eric Romani awoke suddenly. It took a moment to realize what woke him up--not noise, but silence. He got dressed and wondered what to do.

Robert Johnson slowly woke up. He noticed several other students doing the same. Man, what a wild party. Just imagine what tomorrow will be like. He got up, careful not to disturb the girl sleeping next to him, and tried to find his shoes when he noticed the most conscious students huddled around a HAM radio or something. He slurred a greeting at them, but they didn't respond. After another couple attempts at getting their attention, one of the students looked up and said, "The school's under quarantine. Be quiet, we're trying to listen."

What do these five luckless souls do? They have about two hours left this turn. (I've decided to divide each day into eight three-hour "turns," and each turn into actions as needed.)

Robert Stays and listens to the Radio for awhile, afterwards he talks to some of the other students about what is going on.

He will then leave and try to collect some supplies.

((Did I understand that right, there are abandoned cars in the road with doors left open?))

Phillip Anderson starts to jog, but only gets a few paces before deciding this is too weird. He looks around. If no one is in sight to talk to he cautiously examines a few nearby cars. He particularly wants to know if there are signs of struggle, and if keys and belongings have also been left behind. If he finds nothing startling he returns to his apartment and tries to check the TV/Radio/Internet for a news report.

"Victor Sulu"
Walk outside and look around
Victor bundles up and heads outside. The MMA studio he teaches at is only a few blocks from Lake Michigan, so there's almost two feet of snow and plenty of wind. Frankly, that sentence was more an excuse to throw some exposition in than anything. Victor walks around, trying to figure out what's wrong. There aren't any cars around, which strikes Victor as quite odd indeed. Something in the air smells odd. Victor hears Jamie and Gretchen calling. They apparently read something on their phones or something. Whatever happened, there's still reception.

Ehh, it's probably nothin'. Maybe I should call Bert and see if anything's up.

Eric Romani: Find phone, try to call associate.
Eric comforted himself with the thought that whatever was causing almost all sounds of a modern city to stop was probably nothing. He lived in an apartment, six blocks from the building he worked at. Grabbing clothes, Eric dialed his phone. It went to voice mail.
"Hey, Bert, it's Eric. I was wondering if you knew what was going on. Other than nothing. Either there aren't any cars driving around this corner of Chicago this morning or they really improved the soundproofing in the building overnight. Call me back soon, okay? Goodbye."

Robert Stays and listens to the Radio for awhile, afterwards he talks to some of the other students about what is going on.

He will then leave and try to collect some supplies.

Yup, the whole University of Chicago campus has been quarantined, along with a fair number of the surrounding blocks. It's just a voice describing the streets that bound the quarantine area, where there is allegedly some sort of barrier going up. Chatting with the other students reveals little he didn't find out from the automated, looping message. Probably the oddest thing is that Harold--the guy whose radio it is--says that the message isn't playing on any of the normal radio stations. Weird. Robert heads out for supplies, thinking of what and where he's looking for.

You understand correctly.
Phillip jogs about a bit before deciding that he needs to investigate. His investigative instincts, honed at the police academy, suggest that there's nothing suggesting foul play. The distribution of the car-shaped lumps of snow suggests that at some point, maybe a mile or two from the city limits of Chicago and a bit less than that from you, some people decided that pulling over and walking would be faster than waiting in traffic (like rush hour) and decided  to do so (unlike rush hour); obviously, this made the jam worse and caused a, pardon the pun, snowballing effect. The band of cars is probably close to three miles thick, total, around here, but it might be less thick once you get away from the big freeways.
Heading back inside, Phillip flips on his radio--pretty much the only bit of his police gear he has right now. He freezes when he hears an automated message about a quarantine.

DERP.

Jessica eats breakfast while dialing her closest friend, Kaitlyn's, number.
Jessica shakes her head and decides she needs breakfast before worrying about this kind of crap. She dials Kaitlyn's cell number. Kait's pretty much the only other homeschooled kid Jessica knows well.
"Hey, Kait, 'sup?"
"Um, not too much...except that the University is quarantined for some reason."
"What?"
"Yeah, Mom was heading to pick up some last-minute eggnog for the Christmas celebration with Grandpa Dan, and he ran into a bunch of people in these weird suits setting up some sort of barricade. She says a police officer stopped her and said she had to go back. I can't believe it!"
"Ohmygod! Are you okay?"
"If I wasn't, that would be a bigger concern than the quarantine! George is throwing up, though." George is Kaitlyn's 8-year-old brother.
"Probably just a flu."
"Yeah, that's what Dad says. Well, um..."
There is an uncomfortable pause.

There is 1 hour and 50 minutes left this turn. What do these five do?

Walk back inside to see what they read and look around for a weapon and some form of armor
Jaime shows Victor her smartphone. On its diminutive screen he read about how the US government is refusing to explain its orders to evacuate Chicago. He scrolled back up, and discovered  that Chicago was warned that if they did not leave by noon, today, they would be quarantined and probably die before the new year. The comments at the bottom of the page indicate that at least several thousand people are still in Chicago, most of which either can't or won't leave in part due to quarantine procedures going up and in part because of a "wall of abandoned vehicles" surrounding Chicago. There also seems to be a quarantine around the University to prevent people from being infected before they can escape.
He paused a moment after reading the article, then said, "Gretchen, Jaime, grab your stuff, see if you can find armor or weapons, and let's go. We've got until noon to get out, and we're burning the last hour and a half."
"We can't leave! Daren is trapped at the University!" Gretchen sputters.
"...Who's Daren?" Victor asked.
"He's...important to me."
Well, then.

Jessica says goodbye to Kaitlyn and decides to surf Youtube for a bit.
"Bye, Kait. Call me back if anything important happens."
"Sure."
Jessica hangs up, then heads to her laptop. [3] YouTube has the normal stuff, but Jessica notes a video titled, "The Truth about Chicago." She decides to watch it.
It seems to primarily be a nut ranting about how DARPA accidentally released some sort of mutagenic virus that would turn us all into monsters from the University of Chicago, and Ron Paul used his Freemason contacts to cover it up. He cites a few facts, including that Chicago will be completely quarantined by noon.
That leaves less than an hour and a half..."MOM!"

Phillip A. listens to the message then attempts to contact a police dispatcher, or anyone else, on the radio.

((Suggestion to other players if I'm not around in time to officially enter the next action: Go to apartment to eat, get warm clothes, supplies, and a personal firearm if he has one. (Internal Affairs is holding his duty weapon due to backstory) ))
Phillip freezes. The university is quarantined? What the hell? It's like a scene from a bad horror movie. And that makes him...what? The washed up jerk cop who gets killed an hour in, or the hidden-kindness cop who turns out to be innocent and makes a heroic sacrifice? No thanks. Phillip's thoughts along this line are interrupted when his messages are replied to.
"Hello. Phil, is that you?"
"Captain Samson? What's"
"Can you meet me at Lawrence and 60th? Charges will be dropped and you'll get triple-and-a-half time today." That's more than you get for normal hazard pay and holiday pay, put together.
"That is a very generous offer. I'll take it."
"Great. Grab your riot gear and stop by the white van before you get here. Let me know if you have issues."
Phillip is halfway to the station, walking much of the way thanks to the whole traffic jam issue, before he realizes just how fishy everything is...

So quiet, it's like the entire town got evacuated. I don't like this, better ask around. But then again, I'd sooner jump off the roof than leave unarmed...

Eric Romani: Shuffle around apartment, look for stashed weapons. Try to find other people in the complex/neighborhood if possible.
[4] Eric knocks on doors, truly disturbed. Most of the residents are off, presumably for work or last-minute shopping or early Christmas celebrations or something. However, he does find a couple of bachelors who were also disturbed, and a young family huddled around an old desktop Mac. That's everyone on this floor, but you don't get farther because the family explains everything that's been happening. Chicago quarantined, the streets clogged, public transportation abandoned by the drivers or leaving the city already in the case if some buses, etc. It's disturbing. Eric summarizes this info for the bachelors, then glances at a clock. Almost 11.

'Christ did this really have to happen now, probably some terrorist shit or something. Godammit.'

Robert heads out and begins to explore the rest of the campus. He also checks his own phone for any news updates.
Yup, the phone clearly indicates that the University is quarantined and that the whole city will be at noon! With a shriek, you run for the door, pausing only to apologize to those you awoke, the last sleepers, and to explain what you had read.
"Why wasn't this on the radio announcement?" Harold asks, but you and several other students are already bundling up and running for the door. There is a crowd gethering towards the west; rumors flash towards the increasing numbers of students that there's a weak spot in the barricades around the university there.

You can decide to ditch them if you can outrun them or if they can't or won't follow, but that would be mean.
And...well, Victor couldn't choose which one he's rather "work out" with, so do the math.

Victor, Eric, and Jessica have actions. Robert and Phillip still need actions. Remember, anyone can post an action for any character.

Phil's thought proccess: "This is seriously weird, everyone's gone and I'm offered a chance to make all my problems go away if I just come in? Am I being manipulated? Why? They want me to come in urgently, but didn't think of it until I called? What's this white van thing about? You don't even need to be genre savvy to worry about this! I don't want to be the guy who gets killed the by conspirators or feds or whatever 10 minutes in to show the situation is grave. If theres some sort of contamination...what if I'm in the danger area..."

Phillip Anderson is very suspicious. He operates the radio again, hoping to spot any evasiveness or manipulation. "Captain Samson, I haven't seen this van I'm looking for, I'm worried I might have gone passed it. Is it important, who's there anyway?" As he talks he walks onward, looking for the van, but not intending to approach it.

Robert pushes and shoves his way through the hordes of students and runs towards the rumored weak-spot in the barricade.

"Victor"
Go to the storeroom and collect 3 sets of padded armor that is normally used for training and instruct the girls to put a set on each and put a set on myself.  Then go and collect wooden training weapons. Then begin heading for the university.

(( Didnt wanna make my move to long. ))
Victor hurries to the storeroom, assuring Gretchen that you'll go save Daren ASAP. They all get outfitted in the padded armor that fit them over their winter clothes and also what weapons they can find. Victor selects a wooden sword thingy, Jamie grabs two smaller ones, and Gretchen goes for this big padded mace thingy. The three head out, Victor grabbing a trash can lid, heading straight for Chicago University at a rather slow pace.

Definitely a major issue. God damn it, Bert probably got out of dodge already, and without telling me. Next time I see him...

Eric Romani: Search for stashed weapons in apartment before getting the hell out
Eric tries to find stashed weapons, [2] but in vain; there do not seem to be any stashed weapons around. Eric does find a mop, though. It's better than nothing, right? Eric runs out the front door, but stops when he gets outside. A few blocks to the right is the back end of the "wall of cars" everyone's heard so much about, and Eric lacks a car of his own--he walks to work and uses a bus or the L when he needs to go somewhere else.He can't figure out where to go.

Jessica packs up her laptop (With all her notes and stuff.) and searches the house one last time.

As she heads out the door to go to the mall, she starts dialing her Mom's number on her phone. Maybe she can come and pick her up.
Jessica searches the house, finding her mother lying asleep in her room.
"Mom!" Jessica shouts.
"Wha..it's too earl-" Jessica's mom suddenly sits up. "It's almost 11! My God, we need to get a move on if we're going to get that math--"
"Mom," Jessica interrupts, wondering why her mother's alarm clock didn't go off. "We've got bigger things to worry about. Chicago's going under quarantine at noon and--"
"Jess," her mother says sternly, "this had better not be a joke."
"It's not, Mom. One sec--" Jessica runs to get her laptop and brings it back, loading a newspage. There it was, top story on CNN. She handed her laptop to her mother.
Ass Jessica's mom read the story, Jess got more and more worried. Finally, she said, "Jess, get your shoes on and pack everything you can into the car. We're leaving."

Phillip has some doubts about all of this. It's just too suspicious. He tries to think of a logical explanation but finds none. Once he reaches the police station and into a heated patrol car, his mind clear up some and he realizes a plan.
He activates his radio and says, "Captain Samson, I haven't seen the van I'm looking for. I think I might have passed it. Is it important? What's there, anyway?"
"Damn it, Anderson, how could you--"
"It's a white can, on Christmas Eve in Chicago."
"Yeah, good point...hold on." The radio clicks off, and you hear an airhorn start to blast, about half a second with one blast every thirty. "There. Follow the blaring airhorn. Yeah, it's fucking important. These people we're trying to hold back are infected with something. I've heard that it's real deadly, if it gets out it might wipe out the whole country, maybe the world. I dunno much, but the ban's where you get a neat hood thingy with its own air bottle to keep out the germs. That's about all I know, 'cuz that's all I need to know. Oh, and don't tell anyone I said this to you."
"Why not? Is it confidential?"
"I don't know, but it's sure hush-hush."
As Phillip arrives to the scene, perturbed, he hears Captain Samson say, "Geez, okay. Fire to kill.."

"Get the Fuck outta my way!"

Robert pushes and shoves his way through the hordes of students and runs towards the rumored weak-spot in the barricade.
About a hundred or two hundred students have the exact same thought. The barricade is a plywood wall about 8 feet high, seemingly supported by something bigger and heavier. There are elevated platforms being manned by a swarm of police officers, mostly in SWAT uniforms and/or riot gear, all with white hood thingies over their heads, shoulders, and part of their chests. [2] Robert can't really get to the front of the crowd, but he manages to stay on his feet and inch through it. You hear a loudspeaker-amplified voice say, "Look, we've had enough. You all have ten seconds to turn around, or we shoot. Not fatally, that would be--" he cuts off. You see a man all in a white suit, like those things you see in movies when the doctors need to stay away from the plagues. "Geez, okay. Fire to kill, even though we're all probably going to rot in Hell for this."
Robert freezes, suddenly thankful for not being at the front.

-----

What an interesting development. All of the searching and driving and fighting the crowd and stuff takes time, though...
There are 50 minutes left this turn. What do these five do?

Eric curses into the air loudly, First my weapon stash got raided somehow, and now the entire city's streets are choked! I can't get locked up here, maybe the metro is still up. Hell, if it isn't running maybe running the tracks will be faster than wading through the streets

Eric Romani: Check the nearest metro station, if the lines aren't running, brave the tracks.

Phillip is in riot gear, including helmet and shield some sort of bulletproof torso thingy. He also has a pistol, taser, and nightstick. There's about a dozen or two dozen officers,  but Phillip won't see much of the barrier until the beginning of the next action.

Yes. I've been saying this every time this has come up for a while now, as well as in the OP. While I give the suggestions of the original creator of the character precedence over suggestions by others, I also accept suggestions by others.

I'll start trying to pay closer attention to the other characters and suggest actions when required to keep things moving, or if I have a good idea.  People should feel free to suggests actions for Phillip too even though he's loosely 'mine'.

I like the communal control concept and want to see how it plays out.

Might be a good idea for coherence if the person who made the character writes some notes so people who jump in with action don't end up working at extreme cross purposes. Maybe a general goal and a personality note or two added as a footnote to their ACTIONS.

Something like. "John Smith wants to get to the drug store. He likes defending civilians. He is brave"

"Victor"
Keep heading for the university and try to avoid being seen by anybody else who's on the streets.
[2] On one hand, Victor head towards the university. On the other hand, someone notices him. [6v6v6v2] The three react quickly. Victor [2] misses with his sword, [1-1, 2-1] Jaime flings her swords into the air, and Gretchen [6] whallops the someone on the head really hard with the pugil stick--that's what they're called--and knocks him out while spraining her arm. One sword hits Jaime in the head, the other smacks the assailant's stomach. They didn't have a chance to interview him, but Victor has learned two valuable lessons. One, this city is swiftly becoming a dangerous, lawless place. Two,stay away from Jaime when she's swordfighting.

Jessica packs her belongings into the car and waits patiently inside it.
Jessica packs stuff in the car and waits for her mother. She comes out of the house carrying two more bags of stuff Jess didn't think was that important but her mother did. She coughed a little and started the car.
"Are you okay, Mom?" Jessica asked.
"Yes, I've just got a little cold."
They headed out towards the city limits. Soon enough, they could see the barrier of cars.

(This totally can't go wrong at all...)
Eric heads swiftly for a Metro station and notes that they don't seem to be running. Don't they have a motto about rain or snow or stuff not stopping the trains? Maybe that's the Postal Service. Anyways, he decides to walk out on the tracks. Yup, nothing could go wrong.

'Fuck, Fuck, Fuck! What the hell is going on! Are we infected or something why are they shooting?'

These thoughts ran through Robert's mind as he ran in the exact opposite direction of the breach, grabbing any nearby attractive girls/friends that he can pull away from the gunfire with him.(without putting himself in too much danger)

"Robert"
Robert turns and runs full pelt down along the barricade and along the university fence looking for a spot that does not appear to be guarded.
Climb over if he locates one and quickly head away from the university.

Robert hurries perpendicular to most of the mob's movement. [6] He grabs at a group of seven beautiful girls, who drag him away. Robert tries to drag them all the other way, [4v3,2,4,2,1,1,3] and two trip long enough to cause the others to stumble long enough for Robert to take control of the posse. [2] He tries to find a weaker point in the barricade, trying to explain his plan to the girls. [4,5,2,2,6,5,5] One suggests finding a building and going out it, another suggesting parkour (Did I spell that right?). The eight companions do so. [1] When Robert jumps, he breaks his leg, [4,1,6,2,6,1,4] as do two of the girls, while two others jump so fiercely that they hit the middle of the street and a fifth girl sprained her ankle. Oh, dear...

((Wow ok...things are moving rather quickly... In character I don't think Phillip even knows who's being shot at yet, could be zombie robot martians. So he will not interfere with anything...))

Phillip Anderson attempts to speak face to face with Captain Samson.

Info Requests: How is Phillip currently equiped?
About how many officers can he see in the area of the barricade?

Phillip goes to chat with Captain Samson. "What's this I'm hearing?"
Captain Samson sighs despondently. "We're shooting at college kids who are trying to break quarantine, to keep some sort of disease from escaping into the rest of Chicago before the quarantine over the city starts."
"What!?!"
"I know, but most ran. We only had to shoot a couple, and we "missed." Just stand on that wall and shoot towards anyone you see coming."

There are 40 minutes left. What do the five do?

An entire quarantine of Chicago, enough to scare them into stopping the metro? That's crazy. But if it's serious, there's absolutely no way I'm going to be stuck here til' I die. I'd rather get crushed than starve out in this city. There's probably hordes of people trying to get out, but no one's desperate enough to take the tracks. No one but me.

Hand Jaime her swords back and then tear a piece off my top under the armor and wrap it around Gretchens wrist as a basic support and keep heading towards the university
Victor gets a bit chilly from ripping off some of his shirt after taking off armor and coat, but he'll be fine after a bit of walking.
The three make it to the university's barriers without incident.

"Mom, stop the car, I'll go check it out."

Jessica gets out of the car and walks over to the nearest car to ask about the situation.
Jessica gets out and goes to a car. It looks like it was hastily abandoned, the keys still in the ignition, a few boxes of granola bars and a lost stuffed turtle still in the trunk. All the cars are like that--no one inside. Weird, and rather hard to get through. Jessica returns to the car and say, "Mom, the cars are empty. Like, completely."
Jessica's mother thinks a moment, then says, "Jess, get out of the car. If it was worth walking to them, it is to us."

(Sorry, busy busyness over here)

Eric Romani: Continue along the tracks, head to the end of the line before exiting.
[2] Eric continues along the tracks. With his limited supplies and knowledge of his more limited time, he moves quickly. Soon, he sees some sort of barricade being erected near the city limits and goes to chat with the cops near it.
"Excuse me, officer, I need to--"
[5] "Erm, citizen, is that a handgun?"
Eric has to admit it. "Yes, sir, it is."
"You are aware that those are illegal in the city of Chicago, aren't you?"
"Damn it, sir, there's less than an hour, surely you have better things to do than--"
"Sorry, I tend to be a by-the-book guy who has orders not to let criminals out. My boss isn't a fan of crooks."
"Just let me out! I don't even have any bul--"
"I'm also not a fan of people who swear at me..."
Eric leaves, dejected. On the bright side, he wasn't arrested, but on the downside, he needs to find a better place to escape. And ideally conceal his gun better.

"Robert"
Go up onto the barricade and look down at what remains of the mob that tried to get out.
Robert tries to stagger up on his broken leg, [2] but fails. It hurts a hell of a lot. An officer comes over. "You guys okay?"
"Yeah..." [5] Robert comes up with a story. "We were in our apartments and discovered we weren't able to get out. We heard that Chicago was going to be quarantined soon, and so wanted to get out."
"Understandable, but that building is in the currently-quarantined area."
[1] "We aren't sick, although a few of us have broken--"
One of the girls, an Asian who jumped too far coughs.
"Yeah, not sick...I'll tell you what, I'll have you driven to the hospital. It's in-town, but you'll be helped until you all die of the plague they cooked up."
"The plague they--"
"I've said too much. Do you want to go to the hospital or not?"

Phillip does what the captain says and waits for...well...he wasn't exactly sure, yet...
[4] A single kid tries to be all sneaky and get to the barricade, but a single warning shot scares him off. He checks his watch...

Why not? I do believe that this is his game.

Besides, a quickly moving RTD is less likely to die.

We still need an action for Robert.

"Victor asks , were would Daren be? "
Put armor and coat back on then look for a way to sneak in
"Daren is...probably in his dorm."
[5] Victor looks around and finds several young women and a guy lying on the snowy ground. Nearby is a policeman in a weird facemask thing, who asks what Victor is doing. Not seeing any reason to lie, he says, "We're rescuing a student trapped inside."
The officer shrugs and says, "I've already violated procedure to help some people, might as well let out in." He opens a doo on a nearby building and wishes you luck. You follow Gretchen as she walks through campus, calling Darren's name.

A barricade in the goddamn metro. They're serious. It's getting closer to noon, I can't get through that barricade, they'll recognize me. I'll have to try somewhere else.

Eric Romani: Find nearest exit, head towards city limits. Keep that gun concealed this time.
[5, 1] Eric hides his pistol but manages to get lost when wandering around the edge of the barricades. Well done. You appear to be somewhere around the Museum Campus.

Phillip tries to chat with nearby officers, about any of the following subjects they're willing to talk about:

Size of quarantined area, just the college?
Heard rumors about what's going on?
Seen any of the sick?

Side from a few people who were coming out of a nearby building, nothing of note occurs. This gives Phillip a chance to converse among his peers. They all heard that the whole campus is supposed to be infected. The quarantined area is a few blocks around the campus, and the inner quarantine is supposed to be held until quarter after. None of them know what the symptoms are--they've heard everything from instantaneous blood clotting to massive rotten areas to zombies. No one knows what's going on, and that scares everybody. Thank God the cops are getting airlifted after the quarantine over all of Chicago starts.
Speaking of which, it's going to start 10 minutes early due to some sick people reaching the edge of town. Those on the wall start dispersing.

NO.

Jessica grabs a box of Granola bars and walks with her mother, following the trail of cars. Maybe they'll find the owners...

And don't start telling people to give actions after less than half a day. RTDs don't have to move this fast.
"Jess"

Grab the things from the car, climb on top of a van or something and try to see over the cars.
Jess grabs the bag full of her most important things, including her laptop and an old, fond stuffed rabbit that she's had forever. Climbing up on a car, Jessica can see some activity a mile or so ahead. She and her mother head up that way. Jess starts coughing.
Once they get to the movement, they can see that it's several cops moving a small crowd of people through a hole in a wall of plywood and drying concrete. Some cops note Jessica's cough, [3v4] and despite her mother's best efforts, she can't convince the cop that she just has a cold. The cops stop the flow of people and start calling each other on their radios.

Robert:
"What's the alternative, Dying in the streets?"
Try and get up onto the barricade, again.
"I suppose..." The cop is distracted by another guy, wearing some sort of padded foam armor and carrying a wooden sword followed by a couple of girls. While the cop is letting them in, you consider climbing up the barrier before realizing you are on the outside of the quarantine. You are driven to the hospital, a place full of dying people. You chat with the girls.
Xing Li--An Asian girl, short but sweet and studying chemistry
Francine MacDougal--A thin, green-eyed, red-haired Irish lass studying literature
Jacquelyn Sawina--A nice girl, average height and lovely shape, studying astrophysics
Roberta Zimmerman--A tall, buxom blonde here on a soccer scholarship and studying acting
Krista Maynard--A chubby but lovely young lady studying biology
Erica Nordstrom--A French girl, short and slim, athletic and a close friend of Xing's, studying chemistry
Isabel Harrison--A quiet girl studying computer science.
There, now they all have names.

There are 15 minutes left before the end of Turn 1. What do the five do?

I would have posted earlier, but real life intervened.

Gretchen keeps looking for Daren. [2] She is unsuccessful. [1] You find a duffel bag, but a rat crawls out and [5] bites Victor's hand.

Augh, this is NOT the time to get lost. All the times I've been around this city in the night, and I can't even begin to stumble towards a goddamn road out of here!

Eric Romani: Continue search along the barricades
[1] Eric manages to get lost, somehow ending up inside the She'd Aquarium. He can hear the dolphins chattering, asking for food.

Jessica tells her mom to go on without her, she'll make it back.

Go with the police...for now. If there's a chance to escape, take it.
Jess's mom tries to embrace her daughter, but the police separate them. Jess watches as she goes through the barrier before it is sealed with another concrete mold.
The police order the crowd, crying out reasons why they should be let out, to disperse. As they do, Jess catches the address of a hospital the sick people are being told to go to. They're supposed to be tested, and if they test negative for the disease they'll be let out of Chicago!

"Phillip"

Phillip begins walking along the wall looking to see if he can find somebody to help.
Phillip walks along the wall, noticing [4] some guy shouting about why they're all leaving the wall.
"Quarantine's going up early," Phillip replies. "We don't see any reason to keep manning the wall right now."
"...Can I leave?"
"Get over the wall and don't leave Chicago, and sure."
The guy charges at the wall and [6] leaps up over the wall with the grace of an Olympic athlete and lands with the grace of a brick. Oops.

Robert lies in his hospital bed, where some overworked doctors in biohazard suits have begun setting his leg.

Everyone in Chicago hears the announcement over some sort of public PA or a sound-projecting aircraft:
"Chicago is now under quarantine. Do not attempt to leave the city. Those who are healthy may go to a hospital where they will be tested. Healthy citizens will be let out of quarantine if they apply in the next 24 hours and 10 minutes.

There are 10 minutes left this turn. What do these five luckless souls do?

Eric buries his face into his palm, The Aquarium. If anything I've only wandered further from the border. 10 minutes til' noon, but whoever's enacting this quarantine is letting healthy people out. I ain't sick, so no point in fighting the border patrol anymore.

Eric Romani: Find a hospital!

The rat nips again, but gets annoyed when Victor grabs the bag. Turns out it was a rat-nest. Erm, no duffel then. [3] He finds some Ramen noodles, though. [6] Gretchen finds Daren, but he's very sick...

[6] Eric finds a hospital. It is a very popular hospital.

Go with the police, and hope to god you don't have this 'disease'
The police tell Jess to bug off and go to a hospital. She decides that sounds reasonable.

"Phillip"
Ask another officer where to go for the airlift out.

"Robert"
Ask one of the doctors whats going on and look around
Phillip gets brought to an area where cops are gathering, packing up the gear. Some people swarm the helicopter's area, but some tazers and nightsticks drive them off. Soon, Phillip is out of town.

Robert, on the other hand, is not so lucky. He and the girls need to wait until they're healed up before getting tested and released.

Turn One Complete.

"It's getting worse, Doc."
"Sam, what do you mean?"
"I mean, it is not as good as it used to be."
"It was highly infectious and lethal, how could it get worse?"
"Partly riots, and partly--"
A scream is heard.

Turn Two will end in three hours. What will these five luckless sould do?

Hm, I was thinking of having him continue to have actions, but you have a slight point...Wait, there was someone who posted a sixth character a little too late!

...Thinking of replacing him? Don't take him out on my account. I think his position in the police force controlling the quarantine will make for interesting gameplay as soon as he figures out enough of what's going on to formulate a goal. He's just kinda cruising right now because RP wise he's a dutiful cop and wouldn't disobey orders without a good reason. (e.g I would have had him refuse to kill non-violent civilians, but it didn't come to that at the barricade) He's basically Neutral Good.

You're the GM of course though, and if he departs for a while I won't be heartbroken. :)

If he stays in I think he'd want to start investigating, and he's probably motivated enough by the weirdness to be willing to bend some rules to find answers.

>Go To Hospital
[6] Jess makes it to a fairly uncrowded hospital.

Fun fact: I left out an 's', and Autocorrect said that Jesus made it to the hospital. Ah, modern technology...

Adrian Haw
Waking up, hung over, Adrian notes that it's noon ((It's noon at this point right?)) Adrian thinks to himself Ugh, note to self: throwing up is your body telling you it is time to stop drinking Adrian then walks over to the TV and turns it on, the last channel the tv was on before being turned off previous was the news channel.
[3] Adrian stumbles to the television, turns it on, and hears a car commercial. Still half-asleep and hung-over, he slumps onto the couch, considering the merits of getting dressed now or later. He decides on now, and so just hears a news story. Something about a disease being studied at the University. Nothing major.
[4] Halfway through getting his pants on, Adrian freezes. No traffic noises. What the hell?

"Victor"
Pull Gretchen away from Darren take her and Jamie outside the room and hug Gretchen

"Im sorry but if you stay in there you'll get sick too. I cant let you back in that room"
[3] While Victor's logic doesn't seem to work on Gretchen, it works on Jaime, who helps Victor grab her. He then [2] tries to pick her up and carry her off but just ends up dragging her, kicking and screaming and followed by a vomiting Daren, through campus. Awkward much?

Great, crowded hospital. Don't care how many sods I have to beat through to get out of here. I'm not sick and I am not going to be stuck here for the rest of my life.

Eric Romani: Make way to the nearest Receptionist/Nurse/Doctor and ask to be tested.
[1] Eric accidentally inhales some dust, sneezes, and gets dragged to a room and locked in. It's dark, and seems like some sort of neglected quarantine place. Someone else sneezes--sounds like there's at least half a dozen other people in here!

Robert is still sick, but the doctors say that he and the injured girls should be able to walk if they stick to crutches and don't move fast. To prove it, he gets so e crutches and hands them out before kicking you and the girls out to make room for other patients.

Turn Two will end in 2 hours, 45 minutes. What will these five luckless souls do?
