Good to see you again good captain! Shame about the other camp. Now, if I may...

Kobold: Our glorious Kobold Infantry forces, once more as a swordbold named Splinter. "Real kobolds no hide behind bows. Real kobolds show they stronger than enemy."

Now I shall provide advice! Such as it is.
----
Necromancer threat: Either settle far enough away that they aren't a neighbor or just set secrets to zero in world gen.

Brewable surface plants: Damn near all of them except hide root (red dye plant) and blade weed (green dye plant.) But that's excluding special plants. Also not advised for rope reeds, because clothing thoughts. On the plus side, any surface crop will grow so long as the biome isn't freezing (They grow in cold tundras, so yeah.)

Because of thier item thief tag it's hard to attract folks, so taking that off and maybe making them simply unable to communicate will be a reasonable stopgap if we need the 'bolds?

Evil... No just no. Kobolds rely too much on animal products to even survive very well there (skins/skulls reanimating, skeletal wildlife, shit like that. For a carnivorous race these are all bad/unsurvivable.)

Water: Temperate would work. Then we'd need to either devise a safe way to store water for winter or make sure there's enough drink for the winter.

Deep within the void between realms, there lies the palaces of the gods. And deep within a bloodied palace locked in a eternal cycle of Defense and Retaliation, A Disciple of Srojachlis Lay Praying for vengeance.
"Long have we suffered, master Srojachlis, from all forces. Please, master, grant me a new chance to avenge my kind."

"THEN SO BE IT, NEREV OF TADLOTLINDRIRAJER DUSHIMUS, YOU WILL HAVE YOUR CHANCE. GO TO A NEW WORLD TO AVENGE YOUR PEOPLE, BUT DO NOT FORGET THAT YOU WILL OWE YOUR SOUL TO ME.

Later, Nerev found himself in a new body, albeit a bit... Different.
"Perhaps i could have been more specific in my Begging."

Bold me:

Name: Kalras
Gender: Female
Profession: Blood Priestess- A bit of Bonecarving, a bit of warfare(sword and Shield preferrably.)

I was very nervous to be starting again. Thank you all so much for your responses. It does my nervous jittery heart good.

Splinter will no doubt lead armies of legend and wonder such has never been seen in kobold lands before. All will tremble before his blade!

That is some excellent sage advice! I'm definitely too scared of Evil places to go for them. Ive previously done Savage Wilds with Hot temperature. I like high savagery for the scarier creatures. Unless I should put them in a savage good place that's a little set.

Temperate sounds like a fun extra challenge!

Nerev ... err...Kalras, I mean, I love that. And you know me, I love the religious angles! Two swordsbolds will make us nicely protected! Depending what Srojrachlus has planned for us.

Happy to bold you Aseaheru! Stonework and mining may be a little boring as bolds can't dig through stone in this version. I may be able to find clay and they could do some adobe buildings though!

Welcome back Sen! Awww... sad little shy sen is back! We will absolutely need fine feasts so everyone holds strong!

One big question: Do you want secondary narrative (like Chungotlus) or for the story to stand alone? For that matter would Chungotlus or a different narrator be more interesting to you? I have a fragment of an idea in mind if people aren't too thrilled with the storyteller aspect.

First semi-post will be either tomorrow or Monday'

I never miss a kobold camp. It would be unkoboldlike for me.

I almost missed it though, usually I get 1-2 PMs every time the word "kobold" pops up in a thread title. Heh.

No Kobold Camp is complete without Corai!

I'll take a kobold. Drakruldus, who was rumored to have been raised among dwarves. Drakruldus wants to make a bug clay fortress, and will try to take some rock to make a kiln with if s/he can. Ideally he'd be a Mason, but architect or mechanic is good too. No gender preference. Dwarfy personality traits ideal.

Hey, your first camp was pretty awesome storytelling. And I imagine the old guard wants to see their 'bolds fight for life once more.

And I never get a chance to join a fortress at the start, to help form it from the ground up and try to make it a home.

Sounds good! I feel silly having a waiting list before anything is posted! Ill try to crank out season 1 asap! And I'll set up a google spreadsheet like last time though I want to be more organized on my end so the stories keep characters consistent more. I love the traits and characters you have all provided! This shall be the grandest camp yet!

Note: If we dont all die immediately.

I think you should make it possible for kobolds to get through stone, but only if they somehow manage to acquire one of the fabled dwarven mining picks.

Too bad you can't set tools for the different uses (As in shovel = dirt, pick = stone, as implied.) Alternativly, very little stone usage could be a self imposed challenge while allowing it to be mined as needed (like for moods or small projects requiring stone.)

Post by: CaptainKobold on September 28, 2012, 05:03:27 pm
Nobody in the camp could remember the Elder Chungotlus ever being a young kobold.  Even the other elders occasionally told stories of him teaching them of the laws of Thlabifis, the stirring war songs of Chlombujrer Rapiddelights, and the wondrous poetry of The Nameless Lady.  That Chungotlus would one day near death had never occurred to any of them.  But there came a day where he did not arrive at the nursery to teach.  The children sought him out and found him still in his furs.

The shaman was called to do her work, but Chungotlus sent her away with a firm reprimand.  “My death has not come, child.  There is no need for herbs or magic,” he barked out with his usual command, but thinner, reedier.  “There are stories in me yet.  The slaughter of Threedlaflradrum.  The conquest of Neldrumdras.  The occurring of Jreengus.  Have you heard the story of Sruchlofisjlufruyus?  Of those flames who burned so bright they could melt the lands with their courage?  Settle in children...  And listen to my story of Nobletongues.”

The other children were gathered and a bucket of water was brought to the failing kobold.  His eyes remained shut until he let out a blustering cough that waggled his moustaches.  “Nobletongues begins as many stories...  With a quest for that greatest pursuit.  Food.”

The Flames of Dripping traveled far for their quest.  They knew the animals to make the greatest feasts and the berries to make the finest drinks would be in deep forests.  Yes, there is danger in the forests, but their pursuit was too important to be dissuaded from.  They avoided the heat of the southern lands and the cold of the north to find the perfect balance between the two.  And they came prepared.

Their leader was a ‘bold who knew his way about an axe whether cutting down foes or chopping corpses.  Taz Crumblemastered had been trained to lead a warsquad, but this was simply a slightly different challenge.

Of course, no one kobold can hunt alone.  Splinter Beakrhymed would lead in times of hunting.  His boundless energy promised success, though some of the Elders had pointed out that he was perhaps too willing to take risks.

Though just barely fully grown, Corai Standgrind was built like a clay wall with a punch like a mule’s kick.  True, he may not have been the kobold to sing the sweetest or pound his buckler the loudest, but the cries of his enemies would echo about the valley.

Previous camps with similar missions had difficulty with birds and giant, horrific flying bugs.  The Flames of Dripping had learned from this mistake.  Drix Untowardrevere’s bow was their solution.  And once he was done filling a hide with arrows, he could patch it up into something useful.

Once the skin was cut away, the animals would go to Sen Roughmurder.  Never was there such a poorly named kobold.  She was a creature of peace and could make a drink or a meal like you would never believe.

Of course, no grand industry of cooking could be achieved without a hut in which to work.  But the kobolds had spared no expense on this journey.  They had found a kobold who could work with clay to make bricks, jugs, and all manner of wonderful artifact.  True, some did say that Aseaheru Heldsmiles only came along because of her love for giant otter leather, but her earthenware buildings were a promising next step in kobold civilization.

There was something about the seventh that unsettled the other kobolds.  She possessed a musculature that made her tower over the others.  Though she was only five she had a presence of age about her.  She was to be their spiritual advisor, the rightly named Kalras Swordflinch the Bone Priestess.

The Elder coughed and shook his head when the bucket of water was offered to him.  “No, there is no need.  Rest.  Rest is what I need.  I will tell you of these seven and of the story they carved for themselves.”

Aseaheru -  Genius among kobolds. Why? because he figured out that clay makes good building material. And I fear for my 'bold's longevity, since their max is what, 10 or something around that? Hell i fear for everyone's longevity, and that's a shocker for me.

Oh God... Fire... There was a problem for a while that kobolds abruptly would catch on fire sometimes when they came onto the map.  I have no idea why, but it kept happening.  Especially to merchants.  It was the weirdest thing.

Yeah, that actually isn't a mistake.  For some reason the goddess of metals, minerals, jewelry, inspiration, and poetry doesn't seem to have a name.  I'm thinking The Nameless Lady might be how I refer to her?  It's likely a glitch, but I kind of like it.

It could be a mod material the has a high fixed temp, I seem to remember evaporating reaction stones doing things like that to caravans if they brought them.
It is very unlikely but part of you map could be so hot that it sets things on fire, someone had a world that basically melted Dwarves. (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=115145.msg3546682#msg3546682)

I was gonna do the same thing. Build a tiny, cramped prison as deep into the earth as possible, so there is nothing but silence and darkness. Leave the criminals with nothing but their heartbeat, breathing, and thoughts to keep them company.

Psychological torture is still torture!

I love crazy little glitches sometimes. My previous camp had some 99 mosquitoes at a time problems.

@arclance, nope!  Not a typo this time at least.

@clover, You've got it! I'm happy to add people especially who aren't familiar with Kobold Camp. Its an excellent mod which deserves more attention.

@Splint, By all means! Obviously no pressure or obligation! I'll probably invent details but nothing makes this more fun for me than the incredible creativity of people adding stuff in!

Aseaheru, I'm not completely sure how pottery works yet. As soon as I know I'll start playing with stuff. As for the gods, feel free to go against your default list if you prefer another!

@Kel,  That is a kind of scary paladin God combo!

@Vgray, Not intentionally, but in hindsight its kind of hilarious!

no.. you collect clay via a kiln and the collect clay job, with a designated place to collect from. They end up spawning clay 'boulders' and get treated pritty much the same as normal rocks. You can build with raw clay.

@Vgray, Taz from the previous fort really liked Sen, right?  It's been a while since I've gone back and looked all of that stuff up.

@ElfCollaborator, That would be fantastic!  Hopefully the first wave of migrants will be a big one.  I want to get as many people in as possible.

@Krisslanza, That's exactly the version we were using.  Dear God, that was horrible.  That was then compounded because necromancers could see through things, so we had so many necromanced mosquitos that the game slowed to about 2-4 FPS.  That was the death of my previous community camp.

@Aseaheru,Karakzon,GreatWyrmGold,Splint, I am so glad you guys discussed this!  I had thought you needed to use the kiln with fire and stuff in order to actually make the bricks.  We do have one small problem before we start making adobe huts...  We don't have any fire safe materials.  Oops.  I'm going to try to get some crafts made so that the first merchant's group that comes along will hopefully trade us some kind of rock.  Then we'll turn that into a kiln and we'll get things really rolling!

Constructed muddy stone floors do not grow anything - this is why it's recommended to pave your waterworks, as it prevents trees from clogging them up.  I do not know if it's true for clay, but it probably is as they would still be "constructed" and therefore not natural.

Stone, yes, I do believe will grow plants if it's muddied.

Constructed floors will not, however.  It's common practice to floor over aqueducts and the like to prevent trees.

Roads are counted as buildings, but floors are not (once they're built).

We press on! We can figure this out later!

Right now, we need shelter, storage, and workshops!

Rooftop gardens can come later! Or we can build them using the ground!

Example: mine out underneath where ever a nice outcropping is. Build walls underneath it, channel out around it! Tadah! Veggie gardens ontop of the house!

Post by: Kel the Oblivious on September 30, 2012, 10:59:05 pm
Houses would "Be under ground" But the ground around them would be cleared out, so it'd be a free standing house covered in a roof of natural soil.

Take a hill. Dig out a series of hovels. Reinforce the hovels with wooden walls. Channel out above them all the space between the hovels. Tadah, farm soil on top.

Figure something like

OOOOO
O  O  O
    O
O  O  O
OOOOO
O  O  O
    O
O  O  O
OOOOO
O  O  O
    O
O  O  O
OOOOO

underground would provide plenty of room and farmland above it.

We have a screen cap of the embark site, and it has clay uprisings. Even a single z level up is enough for this plan to work.

And, if we need to make more, we can always dig down a level.

in KC, problem of not having clay to build a Kiln to collect clay is easily worked around: You can burn vermin remains in wooden "critter kitchen" to produce a bar of fire-safe ash.
In the latest KC version i used, bolds were unable to bake clay and I had to build from glass.

Considering self-imposed challenges, I propose the following limitations:
1. Don't build walls of raw unbaked clay - that's  silly, they are not going to stand firm. Floors are okay as long as they have ground beneath.
2. Dig no tunnels in soil. They'd collapse! Only pig pits. Tunnels are permitted in diggable rock, if it is ever found.
3. Leave no unsloped soil wall - it would collapse. To dig a deep pit, make it wide.
4. Building have to have a foundation, either bedrock or constructed brick or glass or stone or metal or wood walls 1z-level below ground (at least). Higher buildings should have deeper foundations, 1level down for 3levels up for example.

Kel has it right there.  For now, I'm just working on getting together a single housing unit where all of the kobolds can cuddle up together.  Eventually (once we have clay especially) it will be much easier to have kobolds live in individual houses, something that I think works best for married kobolds.  After all, the little beasties need plenty of time to socialize in order to find their mates.

We do indeed have cliffs and I could see it being interesting to set up that kind of a structure.  Especially in terms of a temple to the Buseelus Boarbearded (Goddess of Plants and Animals).  Of course, that is somewhat down the road.

Unfortunately, I didn't bring any cats or other hunting animals, so I don't think that I actually have any vermin remains.  I do kind of think it doesn't make a lot of sense to use unbaked clay, though it would certainly make life quite a bit harder.  The truth of the matter is that the eternal war against dwarves, elves, humans, and goblins should keep things difficult enough.  Hell, there are alligators which I believe means we could get giant alligators.  Speaking of which, if we kill a giant alligator, there will be celebrations that last for weeks.

Also, writing up the first post right now with pictures already taken.

Alligators were present before Toady did a huge animal update with procedurally generated giant and person versions, so they have no giant form.
Vermin remains should still be present - they appear when a kobold accidentally step over a vermin creature

On a note to that, giant moose are rediculously valuable, even for giant animals!

As the sun began to rise over the horizon kobolds gathered around Chungotlus’ clay hut.  The entire camp had been told of his condition and each family sent little gifts and treats for the ailing Elder.  Despite the protests of the shaman the children all gathered around Chungotlus’ bed and sat to wait for him to wake.

They sat waiting and watching the slow rise and fall of the Elder’s chest.  Then in a near rasp he murmered out, “Aaah... Chucheedrin Plaguepoison has blessed us with this silence.  This stillness to keep us from madness.  Thank you, blessed lady.”  The other kobolds scrunched up their noses and gave disbelieving looks, but who could be brave enough to tell Chungotlus the Eldest of the Elders that the goddess he praised was one worthy of fear, not adoration.

“But you have not come here for silence, have you pups?  You wish to hear of times long past.  We begin in the Spring of 126.

The way had been long and treacherous, but the seven kobolds had made it safely at last.  They had for themselves a list of what they would need to survive and thrive.  When Taz called a halt of the cart all gathered around for the all important calling of resources.

“Trees,” barked out Taz with a glance about at the others.

“Trees,” confirmed Sen softly as she looked up at the canopy under which they were situated.

“Good.  Water,” the leader yapped out for.

Splinter dipped his paw into the running stream and tasted the water before responding, “Water.”

“Good.  Meat?”

Drix peered about with his brow furrowed before pointing out into the distance.  “Meat.  Big meat.”  The other kobolds all furrowed their brows and squinted their eyes to try to make it out as well.  A lumbering giant otter plodded along the opposite bank of the river far upstream.

“Good.  That it?”

Azeaheru pointedly cleared her throat.

Taz and the other kobolds regarded her with confusion on their faces.  “Gods?” asked Kelras with a glance upwards.  “Yup.  Gods here.”

Azeaheru heaved a melodramatic sigh and pointed at the nearby cliff wall of clay.  “Clay.  Got clay.  Good.”

With this, it was decided that they would settle down here to create Nobletongues, a camp dedicated to creating feasts like the world had never seen before.  They immediately took apart the caravan and set to work.  Taz took his axe to many of the trees in the area as Azeaheru began constructing some beds to sleep in.

Sen set to work setting up the kitchen, butchery, and brewery with help from Splinter running materials for her.  He hopped about and capered in a near war dance as he helped to prepare things.  Sen watched him as she worked with a shy little smile on her face.  It is lucky for them that there were no Elders to the camp yet or the two would have found themselves married before a hut was built.

Corai carried lumber longer than any of the other kobolds could appearing mostly lost in his own thoughts.  When he passed Splinter doing an exceptionally ridiculous jump over a barrel however, he let his load thump to the ground and asked, “Splinter.  Warband?”

So surprised was Splinter by this that he nearly fell face first into the middle of the wooden kitchen.  He promptly pulled himself to his feet and made a sweeping motion with his hands.  “Warband... Blades of Mystery!”  The other kobolds thought this a fine name and it was so.  There was much camaraderie as nearly the entire camp wished to be a Blade of Mystery.

While this bantering and talking was going on, Sen and Aseaheru remained hard at work.  Sen began to gather berries to use for drinks as Aseaheru dug a deep hole that she insisted could be used for farming.  Sen and Aseaheru sat discussing the plants they could grow and the fine sweet drinks that would keep the whole camp warm during the winter that would surely be coming.

Taz returned slowly from his time chopping down trees, rubbing at the back of his neck with one paw.  “So tired,” he pointed out helpfully as he admired the large pile of wood that had been gathered.  “Too tired.”

Kelras snapped at him, “Come, Taz!  Night of Buseelus Boarbearded.  Drink.  Sing.  Dance.”

Taz looked at the Bone Priestess as though she had abruptly grown a second head and then walked to stick his head in a barrel.  After slurping down his fill, he sat down with his back against it and grumbled out, “No.  Taz drink.”

Corai walked over to the older kobold and promptly hoisted him back up onto his feet.  Amidst scuffling paws and quick snarls, the heftier kobold got one of Taz’s arms around his shoulder and pointed out, “Sing important.  Buseelus want sing.”  At this, Taz relented and the seven kobolds sang the sacred songs to thank Buseelus Boarbearded for the wondrous nature that they had been given.

Then Buseelus Boarbearded gave the kobolds a sign.  Amidst their singing and dancing, a large shape began to lumber over.  It rose from the river and plodded over on four legs, water dripping from it’s long mangy hair.

“Look!” called out Sen in a shocked and terrified voice.  “Otter!”

The Blades of Mystery promptly grabbed their weapons and turned, thinking that they would have an easy fight only to have to look up far above their own heads to see the thing’s face.  There was a hesitation and all turned to Splinter to see what to do.

“We hunt,” barked out Splinter with a broad grin forming on his face as he beat his sword against his buckler.  A roar of triumph came forward and the kobolds charged, slamming out a warbeat against their shields.  The otter stood on it’s hind legs for a moment blocking out the moon from view before it turned and fled chased by hoots and hollers.  Finally it sunk back into the river and the kobolds stopped chasing it.  There would be more time for hunting later.

The Blades returned to the camp and all began to trade stories and sing their own praises.  Even Corai joined in a little with some support from Kalras.  Soon the drink and the excitement began to pull them down towards sleep and the little ‘bolds slept under the gentle spring rain.

The Blades were the last to wake the following morning to sounds of industry and work.  Wooden cudgels beat against wooden gears, pulleys squeaked and planks moved.  They gathered about the pit that Azeaheru had dug where apparently Sen and Azeaheru were hard at work.  The five warriors sat quietly watching until the two climbed out all covered in mud and grime.

Splinter chuckled and turned his head a bit to peer at Sen before joking, “Sen is otter now?”

Sen covered her cheeks with her paws in embarrassment before tossing some of the mud at Splinter as Azeaheru explained.  “We make farm.  Look.  Pull this and tiiiny water get in.”

“Water good for farm,” explained Sen as she straightened out her fur as best as she could.

“You see,” barked Azeaheru as she pulled the lever to let a tiny trickle of water into the farm.

A flood of water promptly filled the farmland.  Sen and Azeaheru looked between each other and cleared their throats.  “It dry soon,” explained Sen.

The other kobolds were very impressed by this invention and drinks were passed all around.

Later that week, the construction of the first nesting building was finished.  Though it wasn’t as sturdy as clay, it would have to work for now as the rock they had intended to bring to make the kiln was simply too heavy to drag the whole way.  The kobolds settled into their new home and the rest of Spring went by pleasantly.

Spring was unfortunately REALLY uneventful.  No migrants yet (as predicted, I believe) but hopefully we will get some in Summer, I think!  In the meantime, we have most of the things we need for our industries and it's just a matter of getting to killing stuff!  Woooo!

I was kind of annoyed that the otter managed to get away from the warriors.  I kind of think we could have taken it.  Admittedly, that also could have lead to the death of five of our seven kobolds, so perhaps it is for the best.

Meanwhile, a disembodied presence smirked, resuming it's vigil over the camp.
"I had my doubts about these kobolds. But, maybe, I will find a vessel to continue my eternal life.....and gain my revenge on the elves go put me like this."

The presence swooped through the camp for a bit, leaving cold air in his wake.

Roughly translated to the Human tongue from the journal of Taz Crumblemastered.

Taz tired. But camp have wood. Camp good. Sen and Aseaheru make farm. Buseelus bless us. Buseelus also tease us with otter. Buseelus have sense of humor. Where Taz put drink?

Yes I believe humans will stumble upon these journals. It explains Kobold speak perfectly.

ElfCollaborator is spooky...  Perhaps Kalras will start finding this presence kicking around?

@Kriss, I understand that completely.  I can barely play Dwarf Fortress anymore with how I have grown to love the little thieves.

@Taz, Haha!  Alright!  We have our first player-generated character trait for a God!  Now canonically Buseelus has a sense of humor.  Yes!  Actually, this continued with ONLY flight-capable creatures after the otter.  How can we get to the meat when our arms are so short?!

We got two stabby guys and one shooty guy right? While I personally dislike ranged combat in DF because training archers is far more costly in the long run (I hate using wood and bone for bolts on metal poor maps, because bone stuff is my chief export and I need wood for beds and moods) Have the shooty guy knock them down, and the melee guys finish it. Because let's face it, unless we use saturation fire or get lucky shots it takes a long time to kill something with arrows cause of thier small contact area ::)

Kalras noticed the strange bout of cold weather, and understood what it meant, so, one day she went up the nearest hill and summoned the spirit, after it fully coalesced, she spoke,"Hmm. It wasn't cold when we arrived, at the end of winter, I wonder what a ice spirit like you would be doing Here? Haunting a former glacier? or just being a pest? It matters not. I have a proposition for you. Those fools down there, will dig out a set of chambers for me, then i will find you a body to inhabit. Then, you won't be completely killed by the Hottest day of summer."

I merely request two things, a suitable body and that I butcher any elves we see. I shall serve you well otherwise. Do this, and in return I will serve you well and provide with knowledge."

The presence decided to introduce itself.
"I was called Dastot Winterdirge, in another life."

Drix wandered silently through the forest, crossbow slung over his back as he practiced the ancient skulking arts. He had yet to inflict pain upon prey, to break the silence of their thoughts with bolts of bone and wood. He had taken to writing his thoughts, rather than speak them aloud and offend his god with words that did not bear weight.

He'd pull a slab of clay from the earth, mold it into a simple slab, and scrawl out his thoughts and worries upon them, leaving them in small clearings so they would naturally sun bake. Some would be lost, no matter, he would always scrawl more.

"Great beasts." crude drawing of an otter, a tiny eared stick figure beside it for scale. "Much meat. Much risk." A scrawled image of said otter dismembering the stick figure. "Please Chucheedin one way or other." Image of a kobold kneeling before an alter covered in cruel implements of pain. "Must show mercy. Pain end, silence take." A fallen giant otter with, pincushioned with bolts, and a single one stuck in it's head. "Bonespeaker celebrate sacred days. Good storyteller." Image of Kalras speaking to a cloud. "Wastes words though. Speak like elf." Kalras seen with an X drawn over her muzzle. "Teach her silence. Truest time with gods, spent silent." A crawling of a cave, with a kobold meditating. "Need temple. Deep in earth, silent. Come later, still finding home."

He slipped the clay tablet onto a large rock with clear sight of the sky. It would take time, but the clay would harden, and he'd collect it again. Rustling in the distance perked his short, narrow ears, and he unslung the crossbow from his back. Prey was close. Food was close. In utter silence he took off, tiny feet finding barren patches of earth to run upon, a silent pray to the Plaguepoison to muffle any noise his racing feet made, and a quick gesture over his heart, asking Foseesus to forgive him for the life he was about to take.

Winterdirge re-manifested on the physical plane, watching the camp again.
"Hm. They know little of the afterlife. Even their shaman knows but a fraction. Only I have truly seen what it means to send someone to Hell."

"It's incredibly annoying if it's a goblin. Always rambling about burning."
"And the elves? Well, if I had my choice, they would not even be let into the afterlife. As it is, they do nothing but whine about the trees they leave unprotected."
"Bloody treehuggers."

Winterdirge took out a ghostly axe and polished it, watching and waiting for a suitable body to inhabit, and maybe, just maybe, enact his revenge.

the sunlight gleamed off of the long knife Higgin had just made off with from the stupid mud beards, he looked around and saw that his clan was no more the bones scattered to the wind by the terror of the metal shelled men, HigginPaw ran he had to make back to the warren, what if the dwarves had found his pups they had to be protected..

Alas he was to late, the camp was in disarray and the warrens were filled with the corpses of the dead, he left that day and vowed to have revenge on those that do not have honour and fight the young, he vowed to find a place without lies to protect. he set of on his quest with nothing. His spear left to give the clan a chance at a new life in the great camp in the sky. He never looked back.

i hope you don't mind but id like to write this in third person as a sort of chronicle of the life of Higginpaw.

Alright, so here's my current update schedule...

Post 2: Tonight!  Hopefully before midnight, but I'm in the US and will be watching the Presidential Debate, so I can't guarantee it'll be done yet.

Update for the first post: Right after Post 2.  I've got to catch up the waiting list, link to journals, etc.

Post 3: Weekends tend to be a little bit crazy for me.  Post 3 should come up on Monday, though I'm not sure whether it'll be early in the day or late at night.  At that time I may also be able to toss up a kobold drawing or two, though I'll admit I'm not at all an artist.

”Chobofrin visited me last night,” confided Chungotlus to the shaman when the other kobolds were not so close.  “She gave me dreams of falling and tears.  Horrid dreams.”  The shaman nodded at this and made the sign of Foseesus’ mercy over the Elder’s eyes.  The two sat in silent prayer for a moment before the shaman offered her calm opinion, “Perhaps it is the story you tell.  I do not recall Sruchlofisjlufruyus coming to a pleasant end.”

“Bah.  What camp ever does?” spat Chungotlus in defiant rebuttle, “All that keeps us from our own oblivion is time.  Gather the children.  The herbs you’ve given me are helping.”  He then laid back down and waited patiently for the gathering of the pups.

As they got settled in for the lesson, two of the tiny kobolds were talking softly and giving each other pushes.  Abruptly one tackled the other and started scratching at him.  Luckily the shaman was near enough to lift one yelping pup in each hand.

“Children!” barked Chungotlus with a rheumy look.  “You would strike your clutchmate?  Have you no shame?”

“He said you were telling a boring story!” yelped the smaller of the two with an accusing look in his eyes.  “He says it’s just a stupid history story and there won’t be anything cool in it!”

Chungotlus made a dismissing snorting and shook his head, “Oh, there will be blood sport.  You have my word.  But kobolds do not thrive simply by fighting and killing.  Kobolds thrive when they build...

Though to be fully truthful, the kobolds of Nobletongues had not yet realized this lesson.  Four out of the seven kobolds occupied themselves with martial training while the other two were left to care for the good of the camp.  Of course, this isn’t to say that the warriors refused to help, they just returned to training and dueling the moment they weren’t being directly told what to do.

I say four only because Taz preferred to occupy himself with physical training of a different sort.  Each time he would pass the nesting house where the others were training the other Blades of Mystery would call out, “Still fight trees?  Better training!  Come train!”  Taz would simply shake his head and insist, “Cutting tree better.  You see.”

It is lucky that the axebold kept this belief because without a merchant wagon in sight, Aseaheru was forced to continue working with wood.  She built steadily all the while grumbling that she ought to just begin gathering clay whether there is a kiln available or not.

Soon the construction was completed, though it was not as large as the other kobolds had expected.  “REAL dining hall when clay,” explained Aseaheru as she brushed sawdust off of her clothes.

Sen’s taupe fur was marked at paws and mouth with the bright colors of the nearby plants.  She had gathered a fair store of little berries that were perfect to add a bit of sweetness to the forming winter stores.  The little cook explored into the living hut where the warriors were hard at work swinging their weapons about.  Splinter, panting with exertion and effort, quickly walked over to her with a lopsided smile.  “You be Blade?” he asked in a joking voice.   Sen quickly shook her head and pushed a bucket into his arms before rushing off back to work.

“What she bring?” asked Corai craning over Splinter’s shoulder.

“Longland beer.  Splinter’s favorite,” responded Splinter with a wide grin on his face.

Then there came the rallying drums from outside.  Drix stood with his bow ready shouting out, “Blades fast!  Hamsterman!”

The kobolds quickly formed up and began dancing themselves up into a frenzy.  Weapons beat against bucklers and the thrumming of Drix’s empty bowstring made the combat music that would guarantee them blessing from Chlombujrer Rapiddelights.  Then came the shout from Drix of, “Huuuunt!”

Corai and Kalras led the charge with warchants as they pounded over the ground.  Past their heads came Drix’s arrows slicing through with thrumming flicks.

The Hamsterman let out a hissing snarl, but faced with three brave kobold warriors immediately turned tail and ran.  Corai was the first to catch up using his long stride to pass over the ground before Kalras could.  He offered a wide grin back at her with a wink and then swung his machete in a deadly arc that ripped into the hamsterman’s foot.  The beast stumbled and Corai darted underneath a swing to cut across the monster’s hand.

The hamster continued to try to flee scrambling with bloodied paws and falling onto all fours.  Corai tackled the monster and began to slash and swing and stab.  Roars of pain and confusion came from the beast as the kobold rode it down to the ground before rolling up and to the side.  The hamster swung a paw at Corai and lost it at the wrist courtesy of Kalras arriving with her own quick machete work.

The two kobolds turned around the beast singing to it a song of passing as it struggled against the myriad of cuts.  Then like a bolt of lighting Corai darted forward and separated the other hand from arm.  The beast shuddered and fell to the ground moving no more.

In the spilled blood of the fallen hamsterman, Corai began a dance of victory, but Kalras cut him off.  “Look.  Birds,” she yapped out and they fled from the giant sparrows that soared in the sky above.

Mere weeks after this first kill the kobolds found themselves with another set of visitors, though this time they were much more friendly.  Three kobolds approached the camp seeking refuge.  Two were a young couple, Drakruldus the builder and Nix who was a spearfighter.  The third was an animal trainer named Nanomage who had been one of the Elders in her previous camp.  “No Elder here.  Nanomage come,” she explained to the camp.

Taz nodded in approval of this and pointed out helpfully, “No pup yet.  Still story good.”  He offered his paw and the two shook.  Kalras on the other hand kept her distance.

Several days later a hunting party was organized and the Blades of Mystery prepared to face their foes.  As Taz readied his axe, Splinter approached and gave him a joking cuff on the shoulder.  “Taz remember fight?” he asked in a joking voice.  Taz only snorted and pointed out, “After hunt, we see.”

A short distance from the camp, the Blades found a group of hamstermen like the one that Corai and Kelras removed before.  Splinter laughed and swung his machete against his buckler, “We race, Taz!”  The little kobold ran forward quickly and the hamstermen dispersed.

As the other kobolds began to run forward after the hamsters, Taz abruptly barked out, “Wait.  You see training.”  He leapt toward one of the hamsters, catching up with her and abruptly slamming his axe through her chest.  A single kick was deliver to a leg which brought the fell-beast down.  Then it was simply a matter of slicing open her stomach and finishing her off.  As the stink of blood and death surrounded him, Taz pointed at the corpse.  “Just like tree.  Now.  Hunt.”

While this was going on Splinter had caught up with another of the hamstermen.  He swung his machete, but just didn’t manage the same strength that Taz could with his swings.  Even a cut to the back of the head didn’t take it down.  As the hamsterman fled, Nix caught up and shouted out, “Run faster!  Kill!”

Splinter begins to fall behind, his boundless energy not giving him the agility he would need to keep up with the fleeing hamsterman.  Nix’s feet and spear were faster, luckily, and she promptly opened up many cuts and rips in the hamsterman’s legs and back.  Then, for a moment, the hamsterman was faster.  He caught hold of Nix and threw her forward where she shouted in surprise before regaining her footing.

It seemed for a moment that the hamsterman might get away as it hissed in fear and turned to run for the mountains.  Then a second hiss of sound came and abruptly an arrow sprouted from it’s leg.  The beast fell to the ground and Nix, Kelras, and Splinter fell upon it with spear and swords.  Like wolves at slaughter, they ripped it to pieces until Splinter split it’s skull.  “Splinter one,” he announced cheerfully.

Kelras, Splinter, and Nix began chasing one of the remaining two hamstermen.  As they ran, Splinter and Kelras began to slow down, just not able to keep up with the thing.  But Nix, with her superkobold legs, kept up with amazing skill, stabbing over and over at the beast’s body, filling it with holes to leave a trail for the other two kobolds.  The hamsterman finally turned to fight her.  She swung the butt of her spear, but it was blocked and she took a wild punch to the arm.

Tossed momentarily to the side, she leaped up and grabbed onto it’s arm.  Her teeth found flesh and she growled with hatred as she and the monster fell to the ground.  Then abruptly, the hamsterman stopped struggling and there was a spray of wetness.

Taz stood over Nix holding his bloodied handaxe in one claw and the destroyed corpse of the last hamsterman dragged behind him with the other.  The one which she had been biting suddenly didn’t have a head.  The one he had dragged barely looked to have ever been alive, simply a slab of flesh and blood.

By the time that the hunting expedition got back, the civilians had managed to make time to start up a new project.  Cut into the ground would eventually be a storage place for all of their food, safe from those who would steal from them and perhaps more importantly a perfect panic room if necessary.  The four hamsterman corpses were cut up and Taz didn’t push back at Splinter for his earlier jokes.

”After all,” finished Chungotlus, “A hut is not built on words.  Let me rest, children.  Take your day and create.  Do something of worth.”

Wrote this while waiting for the post.

Mother always said "Quiet little kobolds get to stay up later" The sounds of battle roared through the village, the sound of wood on bone clattering through the forest village. They had no idea they were so close to the elves, The wood they took, even a few dozen trees, rallied the elves into a rage, and brought them sweeping down onto the poor kobold village.

"Quiet little kobolds get more meat." A scream of pain pierced the din of battle, followed by another. Quiet little kobolds don't get scolded A blur past the front door, one of the adults, followed by a tall, looming figure. A few moments later, another cry of pain. The sounds of battle began to dim, more cries of pain rising to the night

'Quiet little kobolds don't scare the food." He lay there, curled up in the mound of furs that had served as a communal bed, watching as one of the giant, knife eared elves came in. It held a spear, and with a flurry of stabs, it jabbed into the mound of furs, waiting for it's dinner to come crawling out from beneath.

"Quiet little kobolds don't get eaten" The spear wasn't sharp enough to pierce the thick mound of furs, but the force behind it was enough to crack the poor little kobold's skull. As a cry of pain began to well in his chest, he saw her. A giant kobold, easily as tall as the looming elf, her lips sown shut, with patterns of unfathomable nature woven into her pale hide. Lifting a hand ending in cruel looking bone implements, she rested one to her lips, smiling as trickles of blood began to ooze from the pierced holes.

"Quiet little kobolds please the Plaguepoison. To displease her invites great pain." He bite back the cry of pain, his body completely rigid as he held back the scream. Sure nothing lie within the mound, the elf turned and left, chasing down the few runners. Drix lay silent underneath the mound for two days, after the carrion birds left. Packing up what few things he could, he ran away from the village at best speed, seeking another place to call home.

Drix is a kobold of few words. Very few words. When dealing with other kobolds, he just uses facial expressions and simple gestures. Only when it comes to battle or the hunt will he speakl

Are bolds really able to butcher them? Butchering sentients would probably mean never ever be short of food, leather or bones once attacks begin.

Holy crap, Kel.  Freaking Chills.  Plaguepoison is scary as shit.

@Nanomage, Well, yes and no.  I added the butcher sentients ethic to kobolds because I think it makes sense.  Kobolds deserve elf bone spears!  Honestly, the shortages that will eventually kill kobolds are just about never food related.  With regular hunting it's really not at all hard to keep a kobold camp fed.  What eventually will kill would be the attacks.  Think of how often civilian dwarves one-shot kobolds in regular forts.  That is the danger.

Oh you don't worry about that. You know nanomage has been well educated in the art of trapping back at the Home Caves. Also he had stolen from a dwarven fortress a blueprint of a deadly minecart cannon. Once he arrives at Sruchlofisjlufruyus, we'll be safe!

Taz rests by a hill looking at passing clouds.

Life good. Taz hunt. Taz hunt tree. Taz hunt hamster. Gods bless camp. Buseelus and Chlombujrer watch over us. We get more Kobolds. We get Elder.

Hang on. I bet Foseesus and Thlabifis are also sisters. Actually, their all sisters. The "Good" gods. And the "Evil" gods, Chucheedrin and Chobofrin. Which leaves either Buseelus or Slachraris to be their mother.

Diary of Sen - Entry 1

It's been long while since camp was founded. Found old book with plenty blank pages. Must be gift from the Nameless Lady. Always kind as parents said. I miss parents. Not sure when learned scrawly, must be gift of Buseelus and her teasing. Land is full of her blessings too. Found plenty berries and plants to make drinks with. Surprised splinter with favorite drink longland beer but Splinter teased me in return. Splinter is brave warrior. We have new family join us, Drakruldus and his wife Nix. Nix joined warband. Good with spear. Strengthen warband. Also joined camp was Nanomage. Must be cruel joke of Chucheedrin. Good to have elder here though. Won't complain. Aseaheru complains about Taz not letting her gather clay until camp have stone for kiln. I understand Taz reason for not letting her gather clay. What point is clay without kiln to cook it? Will keep writing when can. Must get back to village.

At the bottom of the page is Sen surrounded by brass, shells, opals, and satyrs. To her right is Splinter jumping over a barrel and Corai carrying wood.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here you all go. Sen's first diary entry. Hopes this fits well with the story. Tried making it sound koboldy enough to fit how sen might write.

Kalras' Journal, Entry 1
This, is a magnificent day. More potential Minions have arrived, and once my Quarters are complete, I can finally see if my theory will work. Scribbles show what is supposed to be a soul in the afterlife going into a living body, and forcing the owner out. Yes, that should work. I also remember some of the others mentioning clay buildings... Perhaps a small Shaman's Temple should be made, so I may, er... "Pass on" my knowledge to my students?

as Higgin slept the sounds of the beasts and the wind in the trees kept him company, when he awoke he could see smoke from a great cooking fire he rested a hill and looked down upon the once great camp of Tadlotlindrirajer he walked amongst the many smoking ruins and stumbled across an entrance to a warren hidden amongst the corpses of the hated blade ears and the rotten corpse of the greatest of killers, DWARVES, as he entered the warren he found the corpses of many a kobold trapped by the bodies above, he stumbled upon a great spear made of bone and decorated with many a treasure from the last owners life, he took it upon himself to give these dead kobolds there last rights and send them of to the great camp in the sky. Higgin once again set out on his quest to find a camp where he can give justice the the killers of old. but not before pissing on that dwarves corpse.

p.s. i hope the camp goes well and would love to see this go on for a long time.

@Taz, I could totally see that kind of setup.  I will admit that I love the whole family-based pantheon.  Works especially well since kobolds get ridiculously massive families.  I've seen one couple produce 24 kids over the course of like... 5 years.

@Sanure, Awww... Poor Sen!  She's so nice and tries to hard!  I'll be terribly sad if something bad happens to her.

@Kel, I for one don't mind at all!  Mythos makes things interesting and I don't have time to look at every single character and diety within it!

@Aseaheru, There's absolutely no obligation to do a diary if you don't want to!

@Oreosome & IamanElfCollaborator, Man... There sure are a lot of possessions and weird spirit things this time!  Clearly the 'bolds need to be made more spiritual.  I'll see if I can't start working out some kind of a temple... That reminds me, time for a new vote!

@BerserkNINJA, Oh man, if dwarves ever come...  That will be a scary, scary day.  I don't have any idea what we will do in the face of that.

@Kel, I'm sure we'll all come to hate humans and goblins in time.

So obviously the post didn't come up yesterday as I'd hoped.  I had some RL stuff get in the way.  However, I'm making my way well into Autumn and the rest of my day is dedicated to kobold camping!

Two ghostly Kobolds stand on a hill and look down upon the camp. One is fat with a meat cleaver in one hand. The other is scrawny with a big axe.

"They are doing well. Good store of food."

"Aye. But we both know how this will end. Death. By the hand of human goblin dwarf or elf. Or something worse."

"Well I have hope! These are clever bolds. They will survive."

Err...don't ask me where all that blank space camp from.

I have updated the first post with the Kobold Waiting List and the various posts by all kinds of people!  I may change the organization because you guys are contributing a ton of content and I want to be sure everyone gets their fair shake!  If you have suggestions for how, let me know.

I'm about to put up a survey asking who gets the first temple.  It may not happen right away, because we got some migrants (woo!) but it's on the schedule!

Also, by virtue of having some new migrants if there are any lurkers looking to get a kobold, come get one now!

Drix gnawed slowly on the haunch of meat as the idea of a proper temple to the gods was thrown around. Most of the pantheon has at least one vote, but it was a battle between Chlombujrer Rapiddelights and his patron, Chucheedrin Plaguepoison. The din began to grate at his ears, the encampment roaring with kobolds voicing their opinions. Finally, he tore the slab of meat from his maw and hurled it at the current speaker, who spoke of great parties for all occasions.Tthe bold was quickly silenced as he fell to the ground with a thump. Drix stood up and retrived his piece of meat, holding it idly in his hand as he looked around the room. As the bruised 'bold opened his mouth to complain, Drix gave him a steely glare, his yellow eyes reduced to razor slits. Not wanting to cross the skilled hunter, the kobold held his mouth shut while nursing the rising bruise.

"Listen." His voice was hoarse from disuse. The kobolds, somewhat stunned by the very reclusive Drix's display, did so, all sitting quiet around the fire. For a long moment they sat there, the only sound the mashing of meat in maw, the sound of roasted flesh being stripped from the bone, and the crackle of the fire.

One kobold looked around after a few moments before looking at Drix "Is quiet." The others looked around, slightly confused as Drix shook his head. "Yes. Is quiet. Too quiet. Where hoots? Where squeaks? Where croaks?" He gestured around with each statement, before pointing a finger back at the assembled kobolds. "Silent in night. Sleep, awake, no matter, they know. Night time for silence. Break silence, let all know where hide." He held up the thick chunk of meat. "Think little big mouse thing all here? What hide in darkness? What lurk silent? No know. But they know. They hear. And they hunger."

He shivered a moment, before looking far off into the distance "Quiet little kobolds please Plaguepoison. To anger her invite great pain." With that, he seemed to loss his steam, walking back to his place by the fire, gnawing slowly on the hunk of meat. He'd lift it menacingly to anyone who began to speak with too much vigor. Better a chunk of meat than a loaded crossbow at least.

Winterdirge watched the kobolds socialize and squabble around their fire. He pitied them, in a way. He respected Deebus and his like, but for the most part kobolds were slaughtered like pigs. Like goblins to dwarves. Or dead corpses to elves.

Elves. The bastards.

They had made him like this.

He thought back to his time as a living dwarf, and the events in the days leading up to his death..

It was 127. The fall of the fortress Cairnfurnace to fire. Some said it was the greatest and most epic fall since the legendary Koganusan, Boatmurdered.

Dastot looked back on the ruins. He and a couple of others, including his wife, escaped Cairnfurnace's destruction. He picked up his trusty axe, his most prized possession, and slung it on his back. He muttered,

"Yet another fortress fallen to the beasts, miasma and flames. Leastways it didn't end too badly. We're still alive."

He turned his back and walked off, following the wagon carrying the survivors and the remaining heavy goods.

And then the elves fell upon him.

The ghostly Kobolds look on from the hill.

"These Kobolds are strange. They don't even have a god of revelry!"

"Perhaps Buseelus takes that role. The Taz down there worships her."

Meanwhile down in the camp, Taz Crumblemastered is yapping with the best of them.

"Buseelus important! What use hunt with no prey?"

Rapiddelights is an awesome god. She governs both war (and it's never good to anger the Goddesss of War when you're the weakest race around), and various fun stuff. The temple would be great in times of peace and especially in times of war. All Plaguepoison has is a cool name. She's probably a goddess of evil.

That requires a means to keep the rest drained. I'm having to stop myself from getting nasty about the concept of flooding: If it's below the source, it will continue to rise. As we require stone to be imported and we need wood for other things that are more important, we can't build an adequate automated draining system, at least not for a long while.

Also, while I have nothing against pointless projects: These aren't dwarves. There's a limit to what they can do, because of a number of factors that dwarves don't need to deal with, such as stone shortages and inability to dig through stone. If there's no aquifer, a nice big subterranean temple built from earthenware bricks should suffice; she's not a water goddes after all, and doesn't need any water stuff in a temple dedicated to her, and it's the one thing we'll have in ample supply so long as fuel remains a constant. Plus I personally think it'd be suitably fancy for kobolds. And you know what? A metal alter instead. THAT would be a good splurge since we cant produce much of that onsite and is directly associated with the namless one.

How about we make a huge building with a one- or two-level chapel in it, and build another chapel for another god on top of that? Chobofrin or Chucheedrin might have a chapel underground.

Can always build up. When you have the furnace going and the bricks made, theirs nothing stopping us from making a Babylonian style bold city with clay walls and brick built temples.

I think that's the general plan. Well, that and using raw clay until we can keep bricks coming out constantly. I wonder if we can import kaolitinite for porcelien? No wait... I doubt bold have that reaction. Still, porcelien alters on brick temples would be awesome.

I can say the only flaw in this plan is building up in DF, requires a bit of future planning. Unless you like to manage the deconstruction of 'roofs'. But that DOES sound good. We'd need quite a few 'bolds on clay gathering though I think, and a few kilns to make it go at a decent pace.

we can simply build them as solid structures with a nice one or two wide outside with ramps leading to the next level. Build on top of the walls, and continue.

I should be able to update better next week.  At least 2 updates, hopefully three.  I'd love to make that the schedule more or less from this point onward.

Alright, after an exhausting week where I've basically been without a computer I am finally sitting in front of a keyboard again.  Fall has been played and I'm typing up the story for it now!  My /hope/ is that I'll be able to roll out Winter tomorrow because I don't have a whole lot going on!  Actually, this entire weekend is pretty free with the exception of writing a brief paper, planning (and running) a Dogs in the Vineyard game, and Kobold Camp.  So if all goes VERY well, I'll be able to get us to Spring or Summer 127 by Monday.

Hopefully.

”Did you know, pups,” asked Chungotlus with an amused little smile on his face as the other kobolds gathered about his bed, “That today is the feastday of Jrifunus the Sport of Controlling?”

The smallest of the kobolds turned to their parents with questioning eyes before one of them explained, “Jrifunus is the god of fame, but it’s been years since we’ve celebrated his feastday.  How could we even honor him?  The more practical gods have stayed in longer worship.”

“Pah,” responded Chungotlus with a puff of his moustache.  “If anything he is the easiest to praise.  After all, he has given us so much.  He has given us stories and tales, ideals and dreams.  He, little pups, is why you are gathered to listen to my story and why I have a story to tell.  It is fitting you have gathered here.  I will see if we can raise up a prayer to Jrifunus...”

If the camp was to grow, it had to provide food for itself.  The Blades of Mystery continued to train and hunt intermittently.  Even the smallest and weakest of the Blades were becoming sharpened in the wilderness.  But Taz remained the fiercest of the fighters.  He returned one evening from a long hunt with two capybara corpses dragged behind him.  Concern showed on his face as he glanced back over his shoulder.
“Taz scared?” asked Corai curiously as he took one of the fallen beasts.

“No,” responded Taz with a thoughtful look.  “Taz see bird.  Big birdman.”

“We hunt?” Splinter promptly asked as he shouldered his machete.

“Splinter have wings?” Taz chuckled out as he set down his axe.  “Go train.  Hunt birdman later.”

The Blades set back to training, except for Nix who scampered over to the big pit that had been dug for the farms.  She found her husband Drakruldus standing in the mud digging a hole with a stick and putting a seed into the ground.

“Make tree?” asked the spearbold curiously as she poked at the ground as well.

Nanomage approached with her hunched shuffle through the dirt as she called out, “Nix!  Hunt good?”

The three recent migrants spoke in pleasantries until Nix asked again, “Drakruldus!  Make tree?”  Her husband chuckled and shook his head before reaching back down to take one of the seeds from the ground.  “Prickle seed.  Make prickle berry.  For wine.  Make fisher berry!  For more wine.”

”Why didn’t they make strawberry wine?” asked one of the little pups with a confused look on her face.  Her mother promptly bopped her upside the head and began apologizing to Chungotlus, but the Elder waved her off.

“They did not yet have the space for fields for that, young one,” he explained with a slow smile, “It was not easy for them to grow plants.  But they would learn and there were plans for strawberries.  You see, Sen had some excellent ideas of things to cook.”

“Did she make cakes?” asked a cheerful little voice from the crowd.

“Mostly she made biscuits.  She didn’t want to waste the food stores before the camp was settled you see.  But she made some capybara tallow biscuits with exceptionally minced capybara and some truly fine minced capybara tallow.  Even better than that, an absolutely superior hamster man brain biscuit.  She’d go on to make better things, mind you, but at the time the kobolds all fought over who would get it.  Tripe and brain, all wonderfully minced.  But you’re interrupting the story children...  Where were we...”

Yes, food and drink were being produced and the kobolds felt they had a good chance to manage through the upcoming winter.  The bones were put to use making banded skirts and soon all of the Blades were equipped with them.

Perhaps word had spread that the kobolds at the camp were doing well, because a traveling clan of kobolds came toward the camp one day.  Drix, being every vigilant for incoming threats, spotted them first and excitedly reported to the camp that two paw of kobolds were coming in.  The camp gathered and brought out some of their finest foods to ensure that the new arrivals would be properly greeted.

Taz and Kelras stepped forward to meet the new kobolds while the Blades stood ready in case this was not a friendly arrival.  The group seemed to have several ‘bolds that carried themselves like warriors and one that seemed... oddly wrong.  “Welcome Sruchlofisilufruyus,” said Taz as his paw rested on the head of his copper axe, “Buseelus bring food for all.”

One of the warrior kobolds stepped forward and gave a nod of greeting. Despite his rather serious look, he appeared to have a tiny poult seated on his shoulder beneath the cover of a dangling ear.  “Me Higginpaw Limewane.  Higginpaw sherrif.  Bring word of Thlabifis.”  Those kobolds already within the camp nodded at this with an appreciation.  After all, loyalty and justice were important traits.  “Higginpaw wife, Clover Glandgrape.  She make armor.”  Clover took a step forward and looked over the fine banded skirts.  “Good carving,” she admired with a friendly smile.

A tiny barking sound came from the gathered migrants and abruptly a puppy burst through their ranks.  One of the female kobolds ran after it and scooped it up handily before offering a paw, “Me Valk Drinktours.  This puppy.  Valk carpenter!  Puppy... puppy.”  She held up the pup for all to see.  At this point, one of the male kobolds stepped forward and placed a hand on Valk’s shoulder.  “Me Karak Passionblind,” he introduced, “Karak make farm and build walls.  Karak make you good clay walls.”

Taz looked between the other four kobolds and asked, “Why all warrior?”

“Dangerous land,” explained a male kobold with broad shoulders.  “Me Zim Portentwarned.  Make weapons.  Use weapons.”  He showed off his teeth and then patted his wife on the shoulder.  She came forward to make greetings and introduced herself, “Me Scruffy Jestedservants.  Good fighter.  You see.”

The last female kobold stepped forward and asked, “You have spear thrower?  Kriss Acheyawned see birdmen.  Spearthrow good for that.”  She nodded and smiled at this.

“Who him?” asked Taz as he gestured to the last kobold, a strangely silent male with a distinctly odd air about him.

“Jableerus Winterdirge Swamford,” responded Kelras without any hesitation.  “Jableerus witch doctor.”  She then promptly turned and left the two groups looking at each other with confused looks on their faces.  Jableerus followed her soon after as Kriss watched in confusion.  “Jableerus Kriss’ husband.”

With all of the new kobolds introduced, Taz made a round of introductions of those who had previously been living in the camp.  “Come.  Eat, drink.  You camp now,” he said finally with a warm smile.

The kobolds danced, sang, and celebrated through the night.  In the morning, Taz gathered the camp and made an announcement, “Sruchlofisjlufruyus.  New kobolds.  New titles.”  By his pronouncement, Kelras was made official Shaman, Jableerus was named the camp witch doctor, Nanomage was put in charge of trading, and Corai was given command of a troop of kobolds.

After a long debate between Splinter and Corai (with no shortage of sudden snarls, strikes, and pulled fur), The Blades of Mystery were split into two groups.  Splinter kept Taz, Kalras, and Nix along with Zim and HigginPaw in his Blades of Mystery.  Corai’s group was called The Mighty Stalkers and was comprised of Drix, Jableerus Winterdirge, Kriss, and Scruffy.  Soon competition began between the two groups, The Mighty Stalkers bragging that they would find the enemy far easier than the Blades.

All the while, Sen was busy at work making sure that the armor that was available would be good enough to protect them.  Her mind flowed freely and she began to put design and art into her creation.

Several weeks later there came shouts and yelps of alarm.  “Bugman!” called Scruffy as she took up her armor and ran out.  The Blades and the Stalkers formed up and began to bang on their bracers, marking the time of their marches.

“Race for kills?” asked Splinter with a wide grin on his face.

Corai thought about this for a moment and finally gave a nod.  “Race for kills.”

“Good luck!” hooted Splinter as he pointed with his machete toward Nix who had already run ahead

Nobody told Nix that there was any reason to wait for her troop.  Indeed, for the speedy spearbold there probably wasn’t need.  The lousemen scattered in all directions as the kobold charge began in earnest.

With her headstart, Nix caught up to one of the lousemen first.  Her spear shot out and stabbed with quick thrusts, splattering ichor upon the ground.  The lousewoman screeched and hissed in anger, swinging terrible monstrous claws.  The first several strikes Nix dodged back from, but the onslaught became too much.  She stumbled backward raising her arms to defend herself and receiving bruises for her effort.

As Nix was driven back Kalras showed up with her machete already in motion.  The blade sunk into the louse woman’s chitin and she fell to the ground.  In a flash of fur, Nix, Scruffy, and Karlas descended upon her.  Faced with a machete, a spear, and a spearthrower beating on her body the lousewoman attempted to strike back, but snicker-snack came Karlas’ machete and struck three arms and a hand from the monster’s body.  But it was Scruffy who finished the beast off with a sound strike to the head that nearly knocked it from it’s perch.

Corai and Splinter arrived after the louse woman had fallen.  The other two louse men were nowhere to be seen.

“Stalkers win,” mused out Corai as he bent down to heft the louse woman’s corpse over his shoulder.

“No over,” responded Splinter with a scowl on his face as Scruffy beat a lovely victory dance for her kill.

The Blades and the Stalkers returned to the camp and set to work butchering the meat they had and ensuring that production continued.  It was good that they did, because soon a Caravan arrived filled with all manner of goods.  It passed to the camp without incident and the kobolds of Sruchlofisjlufruyus quickly began to gather the supplies they intended to sell.

Sen pushed forward two large barrels of her biscuits to the surprise of all.  “Why we Sruchlofisjlufruyus if no trade food?” she asked.  It was, after all, one of the more valuable things the camp had produced.  But who could say whether they would need it to survive the winter?

Apologies that there aren't many pictures this time!  I'm not sure exactly what happened.  It kind of looks like I overwrote a couple of them by accident.  Unfortunately, I /think/ we've used up our ENTIRE kobold waiting list.  That's crazy.  If I've somehow missed adding you, PLEASE let me know!  If I get a post up tomorrow, we may end up getting unnamed migrants!

I've not yet had a chance to explore what Sen's carving is in relationship to.  I think it's a slab with information about immortality on it which is kind of an amazingly kick-ass thing to put on a piece of armor.  If it's a kobold-necromancer who wrote it, that's even more awesome.

Nix is seriously freaking fast.  The moment I declare that it's combat time, Nix is in combat.  It's almost absurd.  The only kobold who causes me more screen-capturing woes is Taz.  He may not catch up to things quite as fast as Nix does, but Taz only needs an attack or two to kill things.

Absolutely!  I can put up Kriss and Nanomage right now (because you were asking about them) and I'll put up the rest later today!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I'm actually most of the way through playing Winter, so we're totally on schedule for another post today.  A couple of brief things I'd like to say for the upcoming post...

There's a little it of military weirdness going on.  For some reason everyone appears to have shuffled their weapons.  I think this happened because I have most of the starters set to individual choice assuming they'll stick with what they are good at, but ranged weapons use to the same melee skills.  So there are two Winter 126 combats that have weird weapon setups.  Once I realized why this was happening, I went through and set them up to properly use the kind of weapon people requested.

I also will put up a bit of information about that slab that Sen carved a picture of.  It's kind of a weirdly sinister thing to carve in if it is what I think it is.  But then, this camp is becoming weirdly sinister.

Also, if I'm characterizing your kobold in a way that you don't like, let me know!  I've been kind of disorganized thus far in putting things together because it's been a small group, but we're now up to 18 kobolds!  That's a paw worth of paws!  With another two!

Diary of Sen - Entry 2

Had time to write today. Lot has happened since last wrote. Lots of armor made for Blades of Mystery. Drix ran into camp shouting news of clan of kobolds coming to camp. I got food ready for them as Blades of Mystery went to greet them. We have sheriff now named Higginpaw. He brought wife Clover. She makes armor. Gave compliment to banded skirts. We also have carpenter now. Valk brought a puppy. I wonder if puppy has name. With Valk is Karak. He tends plants and builds walls. He uses clay. Wonder what Aseaheru will say. Zim and Scruffy both warriors. Zim makes weapons. Never seen spear thrower before. I thought spear best for stabbing... Kriss says best thrown. Kriss husband look odd. Not very kobold. More like earth creature. Kelras seems to know him. He is witch doctor. I hope I never need healing. Splinter and Corai got in scuff over who forms new warrior group. Splinter keeps Taz, Kalras, and Nix and got Zim and Higgin paw. Corai got Drix, Kriss, Scruffy and witch doctor. Splinter and Corai have started a bet at who is better warrior group. My bet is on splinters. Had to make sure armor would be good at keeping everyone safe. I put a few images I made on some banded skirts. I wonder what highlashes is... We had a trade group stop at our camp as they went about the land. As everyone gathered things to trade I pushed two of my biscuit barrels to trade. Camp was surprised at me. Food is valuable. Would be waste not to trade. I hear splinter shouting for me. Will write again soon.

At the bottom of the page is Sen sitting under a tree sleeping with a bone carving of a stone slab. Behind her is Splinter and Corai Scuffing over warrior groups. To her left is Kelras and Jableerus Winterdirge scheming. To her right is Taz and the caravan trading biscuits and goods while Valk chases after the puppy.

Well, here is Sen's second diary entry. I really like what's happening in the camp. Hmm, That reminds me. Can i get a list of Sen's friendships captain?

”Elder, you need your rest,” suggested the witch doctor as Chungotlus came to the end of Autumn and began telling right from there into Winter.  Chungotlus simply scowled at the younger kobold and asked pointedly, “Do I tell you which herbs to mash up into foul tasting drinks?  Step aside.”  With little grumbles of protest the witch doctor withdrew so that the old kobold could begin speaking again.  “Now... where was I before I was rudely interrupted...  Ah yes, a grand festival was held in celebration of the very first caravan the camp received...”

Dogs ran around barking at the Merchant’s oxen and caged animals amid the tumbling, cheerful music of the camp kobolds.  There was reason to sing and be merry, afterall.  The supplies that they could buy from the merchants might give them the edge they need to turn their little camp into a thriving settlement.

Nanomage, being an older kobold with a head for numbers, had been appointed the trader previously and she shuffled her way over to the merchants to make trade.  All manner of fine carved and decorated items were available, painstakingly created in other settlements.  But Nanomage had her orders of what to buy.  “Rock,” she requested pointedly as she handed over a bundle of wooden bow bolts.  The merchants agreed to this without complaint.

“Metal?” was the next order of business.  The traders were able to provide a bar of iron, a bar of brass, and a bar of platinum that was too expensive for the little camp.  A barrel of beer and an anvil rounded out the trades and then Nanomage told the merchants, “No more trade.  Sing now.”

All the while, Sen sat by watching proudly as her fine foods were sampled by the merchants and then hurriedly loaded onto the wagon.  The food, she was proud to know, was delicious and well valued by these envoys from a large kobold settlement.  The traded items were set carefully aside and the celebration began in full.

The next day amid hangovers and full stomachs the Blades and the Stalkers once again formed up to go out hunting.  Splinter began to offer a joking taunt to Corai, but a single cross look was all that was needed to convince him to leave it be.  The kobolds had not exactly ended up with the right weapons, but all were either too hung-over or still too drunk to really notice.

Indeed, it wasn’t too much of a problem for Corai who had ended up carrying a crossbow into his hunt.  He came upon a hamster woman and using the bow like a machete, smashed the beast into the ground without receiving so much as a scratch.

Nix, as Nix so often did, ran off away from the hunting group and spotted herself an even greater prey.  The monster bounded and leaped about, it’s face appearing like that of a horrific spider’s, with six arms that swung clawed hands.  For only a moment, Nix hesitated and looked back towards the others, but they had fallen so far behind during her sprint.  The spearbold darted forward and began to stab at the beast, hissing out in challenge to the larger animal.  Each thrust of the spear was blocked by an arm, breaking bones and splattering ichor onto the battlefield.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Blades and the Stalkers had returned to the camp.  After a moment or two of talking cheerfully about the brief hunt, ***** asked, “Where Nix?”  Promptly the hunting party reorganized and charged back out to help.

Drix, with his long hunter’s stride, caught up with Nix and offered his help smacking at the beast with his crossbow as he snarled out challenges.  “Caught up?” joked Nix as she smacked aside a singing claw with the butt of her spear.

The cuts began to add up and the beast slowed, stumbling for a moment and allowing the two kobolds to lay into it with everything they had.  Soon Kalras arrived as well, slicing off an arm and a leg as though she was working the butchery.  As the final hisses and cries came from the beast, Drix pulled back his bow and slammed it’s head back.  The beast twitched and shivered for a moment before stopping.

After the hunt, Kriss and Jableerus Winterdirge were walking back to the camp.  Kriss eyed Jableerus for a moment with something close to suspicion, but this quickly melted away as she became distracted in the song she was humming to herself.  As Jableerus turned to go to the training hut, Kriss asked helpfully, “Need spear?  Kriss make.”

Jableerus considered this a moment, looking dark, mysterious and brooding.  He then nodded and responded, “Kriss make good spear.  Thank Kriss.”

Kriss smiled and bounded off to go take care of that work confident that there wasn’t anything weird going on with Jableerus anyway.  Probably just in one of his moods.

Karak was out working in the field planting strawberries in the fertile land.  He took his time of it, moving from space to space methodically.  There would be drink to be had.  “Valk!” he called to his wife as he worked.  “Make barrel, bring berries!”  He set back to work, humming softly to himself.  Then, for a moment, the light from the top of the pit above him was blocked.  He glanced up, expecting to see his wife pulling some kind of a trick, but instead he saw a horror beyond imagining...

”And I think that’s quite enough for tonight...” finished Chungotlus with an amused grin on his face as he looked between the gathered pups.  “The hour grows late and I’m sure you have chores to do.”  Immediately the little kobolds began to clamor for a finish to the story, just a bit longer, pleeeease.

Chungotlus sighed an exaggerated sigh and nodded, “I suppose it isn’t the end of Winter yet...  A little more perhaps.”

Karak yelped in fear and darted backwards as the horrible beak struck down towards him.  The beast was ten times his size with a wingspan that blotted out the sun.  Giant feathers fell as it ruffled itself and let out a terrifying shriek.

Of course, by this time the other kobolds in the camp had taken notice.  Amid a flurry of fur, shouts, and weapons, the kobolds readied themselves to face this horrible giant eagle.  “Form up!” shouted Splinter desperately as he beat a spear-thrower against his buckler, having not had enough time to properly locate his normal weapon.  Indeed, most of the kobolds were wielding things unfamiliar to them against this gigantic threat.

The kobolds charged shouting out a battle cry and beating weapons against bucklers.  With a caw of rage, the eagle beat it’s wings and took off into the air.  None of the kobolds had time to pause and look into the farming pit to see if Karak still lived, insteading charging after the monster in the sky.  Splinter, glaring up into the rain-filled sky, fit a spear into his spearthrower and hurled it with a grunt of effort.

Perhaps he ought always to have been a spearthrower.  Perhaps he simply got lucky.  Or perhaps Chlombujrer Rapiddelights smiled upon him that day.  The spear flew true and struck the beast in the leg with an audible crack and it tumbled for the earth.

A crater abruptly appeared where the fowl beast landed...

Chungotlus paused to look about at the listeners with an amused grin on his face.  “Get it?  Fowl?”

Immediately there came a groan of annoyance at his pun and shouts for him to continue.

A crater abruptly appeared where the foul beast landed, throwing up dirt and stones at the kobolds who were nearest.  Scruffy was nearly caught underneath a wing but with a yelp and a scrambling swing she knocked the monster with her spear thrower.  Renewed cries of vigor filled the air and the kobolds charged the downed target.  Scruffy took the monster’s attention, dodging back and forth to avoid it’s strikes while Zim scrambled beneath it and stabbed up into it’s stomach.  All the while, Splinter continued to hurl spears into the melee from a short distance shouting all the while, “CHARGE!  KILL!”  The eagle tried it’s best to find kobold flesh, but it was hampered by a multitude of cuts and the spear sticking out of it’s right leg, the very spear that had brought it to the ground.

At the onslaught of kobolds, the eagle attempted to fly away, beating the kobolds back and nearly knocking them over in the process.  Shouts of anger came from the hunters and spears began to fly.  The only one who could hit the beast, however, was Splinter.  Two spears found it’s body, one clipping a wing badly enough to bring it down to the ground once more.

Scruffy, Zim, Nix, and Higginpaw were ready when it fell this time.  They took care not to be where it was due to land.  As it scrambled to stand the kobolds fell in upon it, blood spurting and feathers flying in all directions.  Soon, it was no more, with Nix standing atop it, her spear stabbed through it’s wing as the final blow.

The warriors panted as they tried to recover their breath, glancing around to ensure that everyone was in one piece.  Somehow, all had gotten through without a scratch.  Pats on the back and shouts of celebration were called around to all as they working together returned to the camp.  Upon returning, the civilian kobolds let out a whoop of cheer from the sight of the massive corpse.

“No go hungry,” mused Valk with her arms tightly held around Karak who seemed to have made it out of the pit safe and sound as well.  With great effort the monstrous beast was dragged to the butchery where Sen, Taz, and Kalras cut it to pieces with a gusto.  All the while Splinter stood by bragging of his excellent shooting.  Nix, the Eagle Slayer and ‘bold of the hour, was content with sitting to the south of the camp where Aseaheru and Drakruldus were hard at work building.

While the warriors were gone the fortress had not slept.  Aseaheru, Drukalakus, and Karak had been hard at work creating the new dining hall.  “Old hall be nest,” explained Drukalakus as he worked with the clay gathered from the nearby mountain side.  “New hall bigger.  Better.”  He gestured over to where the doorway was going to be.  “Statues on walls.”

Aseaheru stood by an earthenware statue he had apparently been working on.  After making the general shape with the clay, he had begun to carve finer features.  All would be able to see why it was important to bring someone well versed in clays.  “Kalras,” pointed out Aseaheru helpfully as he continued to carve little earrings in her ears.  “Friend Karlas love earring.”

In the middle of the camp, Clover and Zim were working together to decide what exactly to use the bars of metal for.  “Machete!” suggested Zim cheerfully for the seventh time in the past hours.  Clover responded with enthusiasm, as she had each previous time this decision was made.  “Iron machete good!” she responded as she stoked the fires that would set the blade.

“And brass?” asked Zim as he lifted the more or less worthless metal.  After much deliberation Clover snapped her fingers and cheerfully called out, “Statue!  Brass statue!  For hall!”  The two nodded conspiratorially at this and set back to work.

There was an air of excitement and charge about the camp, for the temperature was rising.  The river had come back to it’s regular running self (Jrodluthis The Drink of Crabs be praised!) and they had survived the winter.  Great things were in the works and their first victory had been attained.  All of the kobolds who had fought the giant eagle wore a feather as victory and a feather was even baked into the clay of the new dining hall.  All signs pointed to a bright future.

I experimented with a slightly more wandering, prosier style this time so it's a little bit long.  Hope you like it!  Let me know if you've got comments or if I've made some mistakes!  Issues of people equipping the wrong weapon actually happened.  Oops.  That's what I get for trusting Individual Choice.

Hello bolds!

Sorry to have disappeared for such a long time!  I had quite a few pressing RL issues come up, a couple of RL tragedies, and a number of amazing positive changes in my life.  And now, after a long absence, I am returning to Dwarf Fortress.  I loaded up the old fort thinking I'd be able to start it up again, but the buildings, setup, and where things were going is kind of incomprehensible even going through the thread leading up.  But I'm excited because I've learned that Masterwork now includes Kobold Camp.  So I'm thinking that now is the time to start up the wildest, most scary kobold camp yet.

I'll be putting it into a new thread, but I wanted to start out with a brand new fresh start.  I'm thinking no Chungotlus story and just the kobolds themselves this time around, traps to our hearts contents (given the added danger of Masterwork) and... Well, whatever you folks might be interested in!  Let me know if you'd like to join in an upcoming Kobold Camp game!

Do Tundras have enough meat?

Because I think snow would make a nice change of scenery.
Title: Re: Non-Running Kobold Community Camp and Questions About A New One
Post by: Splint on January 18, 2013, 06:29:30 pm
Not a whole lot sadly. Plus what meat there is will probably kill most kobolds first, except for hunters and early camps can't really keep them supplied with ammo, but a clever combination of the two, with hunters knocking out the elk and such with warriors to kill it could work.

there's also the option of a cold forest (but not a tundra. That leaves farming open for drinks.)

There's also the option of settling in the shadow of a cave, and if there are other bolds, inter tribal raid!

Yeah I'm just blowing smoke out of my ass. Glad to see you alive though cap'n.

Title: Re: Non-Running Kobold Community Camp and Questions About A New One
Post by: CaptainKobold on January 19, 2013, 02:45:33 am
I'm feeling somewhat bored with what I've been doing (Hot or Temperate forests generally).  Something cold could be very fun.  Drinks become a problem with cold, but that could just make things interesting.  I'd say that if we go for snow and cold we MAY need to activate underground crops for 'bolds, just because I don't think above ground crops work in cold climates.

I'm kind of tempted by the tundra idea...  Sure, it'll be dangerous, but that's kind of the point!  Maybe start with a good initial store, get some kobold hunters early... Ammo can honestly be wood without too much trouble...

Inter Tribal Raids also sound pretty freaking awesome, but I don't know exactly how to try to set something like that up.

Very glad to be back and glad to hear from you folks too.  Things have been crazier than I can possibly express and now things are returning to normalcy at least a little bit, so I'm looking to engage in old hobbies.

So long as it isn't freezing you're good to go on crops.
Inter tribal raids: Settle on cave. if other bolds there that shouldn't be there, test kill one. No cascade, kill'em all.

Alright, I'm liking how this is shaping up.  Cave, cold place of some kind, and kobolds in Masterwork is my current plan.

So three questions remain:
1) Any modding I should do besides my normal change of ethics?
2) What are opinions/things about scarier biomes I should be aware of?  Sounds like Freezing is something to avoid if we want our kobolds to ever drink anything.  Cold Forest may be the way to go.
3) What do we name this place?

Title: Re: Non-Running Kobold Community Camp and Questions About A New One
Post by: CaptainKobold on January 19, 2013, 02:12:31 pm
A Taiga biome sounds like it could be a good middle ground.  Sounds like there is both wood and animals to hunt, we can do our farming underground (shoveling!  Woo!), and there's the challenge of drinks/scary beasties.  High savagery I think is always a fun addition, just because it makes things a little more scary without removing the ability to get food (as making things Evil does, I believe).

Thrall Clouds sound absolutely terrifying.  Luckily, if I'm reading the wiki right, they mostly just occur in Evil areas (which kobolds who eat only meat pretty much can't use!) so that shouldn't be a problem.  Hopefully.  Undead are scary.

Yeah, that was horrifying.  That, I believe, was partially a glitch related to line of sight.  Because that pretty much came down to an issue of him being able to see into the caverns despite (theoretically) being above ground.

I'm currently in the process of sussing out which version of Kobold Camp makes the most sense.  I'd really like to use Masterwork because I think some cool, crazy new features would be fun to play with, but Masterwork is stumbling upon the same problems that I had this past game where many of the items aren't properly locked into place (scrimshawing a sword gives you a shovel, etc) so I don't want to get too invested in making a world in Masterwork without checking to see if everything works properly.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AtJOP_0re0PEdEhpaXMxczdSTzdLWmN1VUNTdDh6Rnc#gid=0 is where I'm making up a kobold list!  I've added your login there.

I have now genned a world and went in to test Scrimshawing (the primary problem that has come up before) and it seems like the issue is definitely still there.

Glad to see you back and have you aboard!  I'll add you in!  I'm just waiting for now until I figure out a good way to make sure that weapons/armor are working as I'd like them to be and/or the version is updated by the current controllers of those mods, then we can embark into scary, icy death!

What seems to be messing up with kobold camp?

I just wanted to note that the scrimshawer is broken in both the original Kobold Camp version, and the one I include in the MasterworkDF mod. My own fault for not checking the mod better when including it. Future versions will have it fixed, but you should probably know that Masterwork has its own boneworking building, the Boneyard, which is fully functional and replaces the scrimshawer.

Personally I would love to get more feedback on the KoboldCamp version I include, since it has some significant changes to the original, and I havent gotten much feedback about it yet.

Yes, you are absolutely right. When I ran this previous camp there were similar issues with the scrimshawer and I kind of patched it up mid game in a way I'm not certain worked 100%.

If Masterwork has its own building I'll absolutely load up and get started sooner rather than later! I would be happy to give feedback.

I have all the original kobolds camp stuff, some additions like castes, language, sprites, and added some kobold-esque buildings from masterwork. I havent done much to be honest, just enabled the reactions/buildings in the entity. I have to split my time between quite a few things atm, and havent gotten to working on DF since the last update.
