Title: LCS Not Saving
Post by: Fivetime on February 12, 2013, 06:08:07 am
Where are the LCS savegames stored?
I'd like to try my hand at some Conservative Editing of them to create the Ubermensch Liberal Leader.

EDIT: I also seem incapable of saving. I click X after playing for a while, but when I start LCS again, my progress has been deleted, and there is not trace of a save file in the LCS folder...

On Linux OSes, the files are saved in the hidden .lcs folder (inside the user's home folder). Dunno about Windows or Mac OS, though.

Yeah, I mostly thought that they would have showed up there (My PC has Windows)
I guess that my main problem then is the game not saving....will try downloading it again and checking if it saves, then.

No problem with that.

The main problem now is the fact that LCS doesn't seem to save my progress :(
I even re-downloaded it, but the problem remains.

the game SHOULD autosave after every day, have you let a day pass?

This is pretty basic, but did you unzip the game into a separate directory before running the game? One reason the game might not be saving is if you're running it directly from the zip file.

Yes, I did unzip it.

Hm, that's a shame. Easy fixes are the best kind.

The only other thing that jumps out at me is if there's a permissions issue. Are you running the game from the Program Files directory in Windows 7 or greater? Windows 7 and later are pretty good about security, and prevent programs from writing to the Program Files directory (or anything in it) unless you give the program admin access. LCS is totally ignorant of the proper way for programs to behave in Windows 7 or later, so it probably doesn't handle this issue correctly at all. It might just silently fail to save.

Oh....yes! It's in the Program Files directory! Will move it ASAP and try.
EDIT: Indeed, it saved.

Excellent, glad it's fixed. I'll have to remember the Program Files issue -- I'd never tried running the game there, so I hadn't realized that could happen until now.

I have the same problem, however I am using Ubuntu, and emulating windows via Wine. None of my saves are actually created. What do you think it may be?

The Windows version of the game saves to the same directory the executable is in. Might crimesquad.exe not have write permission to its own directory?

Thanks. Seems like that was pretty much it.
