Title: Taking care of the wounded
Post by: sanch3x on August 22, 2006, 10:34:00 am
Hey sorry if this has already been asked but the search engine didn't pop up any results and the wiki didn't seem to have an entry.

One of my miners was ambushed by a lizardman and while valiantly fighthing the thing off she was wounded. Poor thing was brought to a bed and is being nursed by good ole Ablel Mistemem... Unfortunatly it took me a while to figure out I needed an empty bucket and now she's constantly having tantrum (I blame post traumatic stress)...

Is there something I must do to assure her healthy recovery or must I just pray?

I seem to be doing fine with just the healthcare, but in my case the patient was never let to the tantrum stage... In fact, I've never seen a tantruming dwarf. Other people will probably suggest you to lock the door and let him starve.

It's sad... she finally recovered but took her anger out on my craftsdwarf... I had to take her out  :(

I had my first tantrum in my current fort today.  I've been turning off hunting for all my trappers as soon as they arrive, but of course this guy had to go hunt gorillas by the herd anyway.  Of course, he suffered massive head trauma, and he unfortunately managed to crawl back to the barracks, where it was entirely impossible to get rid of him.  I'm starting to think that rigging every room to flood is the right idea.

After a year or so in the bed, he finally snapped and shot three other dwarves with his crossbow.  One of them was my legendary miner, who suffered only a light gray head injury; despite that, she started passing out in the corridor every few minutes.  Eventually, she destroyed my only bridge over the river and thankfully drowned.  I've still got two more injured dwarves "resting" in the barracks; at least neither of them has a weapon, to my knowledge.

I've had a fairly good track record of injury recovery actually. Nearly all my dwarves who have been injured managed to heal up and not go crazy.

The only ones that do are ones that fall unconcious constantly, as this doesn;t count as sleep so they get exhausted and very, very unhappy.
