I just used it and it caused a crash on embarking. Maybe I'm using it wrong but it seems like something's broken.

Works fine for me. Put it in the same location as dwarfort.exe, start DF and get to the main menu. Open a command prompt and navigate to that location. The correct syntax is "adjuststart [# dwarves] [# points]", so if you want to keep your seven dwarves but want 10000 points, you would type "adjuststart 7 10000" without the quotes. After that, select Start Playing/etc and continue as normal.

Thanks, I had no idea this was out.

It's not in Dwarf Fortress. If you're running Windows, click on the Start menu and click on run. Type in "cmd" and press enter. I'll just assume Dwarf Fortress is in C:/DF. In the window that pops up, you should type in "cd C:\DF" and press enter. After that, just type in "adjuststart

The executable doesn't have to be anywhere specific. Just stick adjuststart.exe in your documents and settings\[username]> folder. That's the default folder cmd goes to, saves time in the long run.

From there, say you want 10 dwarves and 10,000 points, you'd type:

adjuststart.exe 10 10000

and hit enter.

Thank you. I was unsure if they had to be in the same directory so I didn't want to give out false information.

Is Dwarf Fortress running? Are you using the new versions of Dwarf Fortress and Adjuststart?

Dwarf Fortress has to be running and you have to use adjuststart.exe at the point that you can select "dwarf fortress" as opposed to adventure or legends or it won't activate right.

I find this hard to believe unless you did something silly like 500,000 starting dwarves or something.

I mean, if I can embark with 10,000 dwarves with no problems you're doing something wrong  :).

Ten legions of dwarves?   :D

I remember that in the old version, trying to use adjuststart to begin with fewer than 7 dwarves would cause a crash. Really too bad, since I would prefer to begin play with only one or two founder dwarves, but can't bring myself to kill off the rest.

Really? I used this dozens of times with the old version to bring 1-3 dwarves with me and it worked perfectly.

WOOT. I did not know that Rick set us up the adjuststart already. Time for the million-dwarf march!

Rick Rocks

He rocks in a way similar too, and slightly less hard than, Toady One.

No, it was far too lagged. It took about 30 - 40 minutes for the game to embark with 50,000 dwarves.
