Title: Bugged barrels from human traders?
Post by: nex on August 19, 2006, 02:47:00 am
I have been buying out every caravan that comes along, bins and everything, and a human caravan showed up recently with a bunch of "( Barrel (Material))" that didn't seem to contain anything. I just figured they were regular empty barrels, and I can always use more of those, so I bought all 10-20 of them.

Now it's almost winter and three dwarves have died of thirst while standing in my main food pile, on top of a bunch of barrels, with Drink as their job. I was totally mystified until I noticed they put the "empty" barrels in that food pile. The barrels claim to contain "()", which has the description "This is a ." so I think they are the cause of my problems. Dwarves seem to stand on top of them and "Drink" but never get any less thirsty. Eventually they go to a different barrel and are fine.

I marked all the leather, crafts, drinks, and food on the trade negotiations screen the year before, so maybe they tried to bring me some stuff that doesn't exist? The humans normally bring a ton of food in barrels, but they only had the bugged barrels when I bought them.

Well, that sucks.  It could be the negotiation screen, yeah.  I'll take a stab at this soonish.

This definitely seems to have something to do with negotiation.  I just received my first human caravan subsequent to making a trade agreement (strongly favoring badly needed food) and there were no food barrels of any kind -- only piles of these broken barrels, individually carried food, as on muleback, and barrels of drink.  I'll squirrel away a save with the traders still at my depot, in case it proves useful.

I got this bug too. My trade depo was knocked over while the humans were in the middle of unloading their goods. This had some very strange repercusions:
1. All their inventory suddenly became my property. However it wasn't completely my property, the 50 pieces of meat showed up on my stocks screen, but not on my "Food Stores" section of the status.
2. One of the human wagons refused to leave the depo, including a bunch of traders and mercenaries. They just stood around for a few seasons without getting hungry or thirsty, until a band of elven raiders came in and attacked them.
3. 6 barrels filled with () were stuck in the area that used to be my depo. My dwarves won't move the barrels.. I assume because they are not a valid type of item and therefore they wouldn't know which pile to put them in.

My mistake, they are classified as food.

I got rid of some of mine by selling them to the dwarven caravan.

They were then murdered by a bronze colossus, but then so was I, so it was okay in the end.
