Title: THE WIKI WANTS YOU.
Post by: FFLaguna on October 29, 2007, 07:46:00 pm
For the first few weeks, nobody cares about making the wiki look like an encyclopedia. We need to develop the basic content initially, so please feel free to come down to the Dwarf Fortress Wiki and add a few pages or add to some existing ones.

In order to add a new page, simply type the name of the page you want to create into the search box, and hit the "GO" button. Then, when the "could not find page" shows up, go ahead and click the "You can create this page" button. Do it to it and help out the community in a huge way!

I may try to fill in the general information for one or two atricles, but expect my work to be little more than a placeholder, as I have never edited a wiki before.

stuff done:
-workshops: the worst DF workshop article ever, but at least there is one now.
-fire: worse than workshops
-rewalling: still bad, but a more needed article
-machines: lists game's machine parts build submenu contents, but a good start. also first time I used internal links

will add to this list if I try to make any more...

That's perfect!! You don't need to be a master writer right now. We are trying to get the basic information up there now, so 1) people can read it for a reference, and 2) so that there is actually something to rewrite later! There's no way we can make a comprehensive wiki from scratch without it being ultra-rough around the edges at first.

Just put your information up in a conversational manner, and it will get fixed later. Thanks for helping out! With everybody's discoveries, we will have a very adequate wiki in a very, very short time frame!

Everybody is doing a great job, but now is your chance to actually make a difference. There are many articles that still aren't created with information on them. Put whatever info you know onto these pages!  :)

Every single control I could think of, brought to you by... um... boredom! And lots of it.

I will contribute criticism on pages, so that when the ultra-rough stuff is in place people will have concrete ideas on how to make it better!  :)

doler, just link us your pages and the more grammatically-conscious of us will take care of anything you missed, although you have better english than some people I know who have english as their first language   :D.

also, FIX THE HELP PAGE!  not all of us are masters at wiki-code, and if I want to do something fancy (like those workshop tables from the old version) we have to manually go back there ( http://archive.dwarffortresswiki.net  if you want to look, think that's the link) and spy on the code  ;)

I've been working on things all over tha place as I go. when I learn something new, I see if it is in the wiki, yet. I moved containers to container, and made containers a redirect to it.  :)

Err guys a friend of mine asked about the metal industry and somehow I ended up making this flowchart. It's incomplete and probably slightly innaccurate but yeknow. http://www.dwarffortresswiki.net/index.php/Image:Metal_Flowchart.JPG

anyone know how to get templates working effectively?  I wanted to fix some of the  workshop pages but couldn't get a hold of a list of the templates so I could use the right one  :(

All the templates *should* be in Category:Templates.

Failing that, the wiki software can show you all the pages in the Template: namespace. Use the Special pages link in the "toolbox" on the left, click "All pages", and change the namespace to template.

They should all be in the category, though.  ;)
