I was cleaning up my desktop and found some old notes for a LCS mod I intended to make one day. The idea was that if you got public opinion high enough, you could upgrade L+ social positions to L++ positions, which would generally have strange effects. Exactly what they might be, I don't know.
I also wanted to add Computer Rights as a social position. Hacking might scare some people into cracking down on it, but if you keep a good public face, you could eventually make it impossible to (legally) punish your hackers!
I particularly like the Death Penalty modification, because it'd be hilarious trying to "upgrade" someone from a vandalism charge to several counts of murder so that, instead of going to jail, he's set free.
I'm not going to be working on this, so go for it if you're interested.
Abortion Rights Abortions are mandatory
Animal Rights There are major welfare programs for wild animals
Police Regulation The police have been outlawed, and outlaws are police
Privacy Rights People are carefully monitored to make sure they don't infringe on the privacy of others.
Death Penalty The death penalty- alone- has been replaced with amnesty.
Nuclear Power Nuclear power plants are being converted to playgrounds
Pollution Cars are banned.
Labor Laws The minimum wage is $100/hour.
Gay Rights Straight people are second-class citizens
Corporate Law Corporations are outlawed
Free Speech Every 30 minutes, someone has to yell "fire" in every crowded theater.
Flag Burning Flags are a major source of fuel
Gun Control All guns have been confiscated
Tax Structure The tax rate is 100%. (Only illegal income produces money)
Women's Rights Men are second-class citizens
Civil Rights White slavery- alone- is legal.
Drug Law There is LSD in the water supply
Immigration Spanish is now the official language of the US
Election Reform It is illegal for conservatives to run for office. Not that they don't...
Military Spending The U.S. Military has been disbanded, causing an immediate occupation by canadian troops.
Human Rights ???
Computer Rights
Computers are banned for civilian use.
Computer use is tightly regulated.
crime on the internet is restricted.
Internet free speech is protected.
There are few restrictions on computer use.
There ARE no laws on the Internet!
Computers are citizens!

Looks like the losing scenario of a Conservative Crime Squad game :)
-
Ideally, each one of these would make the game more difficult for the players. For instance, fully liberal Gun Control would make any skilled gunmen you have quite worthless... though on the other hand you could go on a spending spree at the Oubliette.
-
Gun Control All guns have been confiscated
"Possessing a gun is punished with death." ... oh wait ... ;D
Gun control at C++ should be "Carrying a firearm is mandatory."
-
Y'know, I was thinking that the LCS ought to have to get an ELITE LIBERAL AMENDMENT of this nature in order to win. As it stands, Nightmare Mode is pretty much the LCS-wins scenario, but for the CCS (and I think the Congress isn't Arch-Conservative).
So, I strongly support the general idea.
Specific implementations? maybe not. Animal Rights, Privacy Rights, Pollution, Corporate Law, and Gun Control seem fairly in keeping with the LCS' Liberal Agenda. Most of the rest seem so substantially over-the-top that even the LCS wouldn't go for them.
(Some seem seriously flawed, though. :( Mandatory abortion, for instance, defeats women's right to choose as surely as outlawing abortion. I'd suggest "Abortions are fully government-subsidized." or some similar language instead.)
-
The LCS advocates total gun control, and will shoot anyone who disagrees. Let's be clear here: the Crime Squad isn't really a sane political movement; it's a parody of what real-world conservatives characterize liberal beliefs, and furthermore, it's a game; having hilarious and game-changing effects just adds to it.
-

It'd probably be more along the line "Abortions are legal, but rarely performed since birth control of any form is fully government-subsidized.".
More C++ stuff:
C++ gun control: Not carrying a gun while in public incurs a public nudity charge.
C++ Drug law: Alcohol prohibition is reinstated (conservative politicians excepted).
C++ tax structure: Taxes are extremely degressive.
C++ privacy rights: Citizens must submit any and all personal information to the authorities, which sell it to anyone paying a small fee.
C++ death penalty: Any offender deemed not fit for the prison-industrial complex is executed.
C++ nuclear power: Nuclear-powered cars (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_nucleon).
C++ pollution: Mandatory minimum pollution regulations are in effect
C++ labor laws: A standard work week is 25/8. Wages are optional.
C++ gay rights: Homosexuality is punished with death.
C++ corporate law: Corporations can be granted extraterritoriality (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extraterritoriality).
C++ Free speech: There's a list of allowed phrases, everything else is prohibited (exception: hate rants against communism, socialism, liberalism, terrorists).
C++ flag burning: Citizens are required to shoot anyone seen burning a flag.
C++ election reform: Elections? What elections?
C++ immigration: Only disposable slaves are allowed. Otherwise, see iron curtain (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_curtain), just with drones.
C++ womens rights: Women are considered property.
C++ military spending: North Korea would be proud.
C++ human rights: The local community college offers torture classes.

Well, the Congress can't be arch-conservative, since that would mean that the ARCH CONSERVATIVE AMENDMENT(*) to fully reaganize the country would be passed a few months into the game, leading to a game over for the LCS.
(*) see endgame.cpp. Yes, it's one way to lose the game.

There is a C++ already (the post-Arch-Conservative-Amendment policies), but it can't be seen due to a bug -- as the left and right keys are disabled on the winning or losing screens.
Women Rights: Women have been stripped of the right to vote.
Civil Rights: Segregation has been reintroduced.
Drug Policy: Talking about recreational drugs is punishable by death.
Immigration Policy: Border guards shoot suspected foreigners on sight.
Election Funding: Only independently wealthy candidates have a chance of defeating incumbents.
Military Policy: The massive military is a tool of political oppression.
Torture: Torture is a prescribed practice in police interrogations.
Prisons: Prisoners aren't even considered people by the law.
Tax Policy: There are no taxes, yet most people have no money.
Abortion: Use of contraception and abortion are criminal offenses.
Animal Research: All forms of human experimentation on the poor are encouraged.
Police Behavior: Policing is administered by corporations and has a draft.
Privacy: Files on each citizen are easily available to corporations.
Death Penalty: Poor criminals receive mandatory death sentences.
Nuclear Power: Nuclear power plants are ubiquitous.
Labor Law: People are bred in pens to be farmed out to corporations like beasts.
Gay Rights: Homosexuals are executed regularly for "promoting the Gay Agenda".
Corporate Law: Corporations under the King [Ronald Reagan] run the country in a feudal system.
Free Speech: Unacceptable speech is a capital crime.
Flag Burning: Images or words depicting flag burning are punished by death.
Gun Control: Gangs of young children carrying AK-47 roam the streets.

Talking about extreme liberalism (and conservatism), I think there should be some extra news events for Elite Liberal and Arch-Conservative situations.
For example (this is a reference to the 2004 "Jesusland" map):
| $2.50 | The Times | 7th Apr, 2009 |
SECESSIONISTS
A group of left-wing activists has started demonstrations promoting secession of the liberal states. The "Let Us Free" movement has performed protest rallies all across the nation, claiming that the American North-East, as well as the West Coast, should secede from the United States. According to the movement, "The last 8 years have brought upon nothing but terror. We are tired from virtually feeding the rest of the nation* and are seeking for secession." Some participants even mentioned that these states should become part of Canada instead. "And the U.S. would probably get Alberta in return."
Of course, the Elite Liberal nation would have extreme conservatives asking for secession of Texas ;)

*Note: most of the time blue states give more federal tax money than they receive, and vice versa for the red states.
Side note: I suspect this is inevitable, at least to some degree. Cities are very economically efficient, and they naturally produce wealth out of proportion to the amount of money needed to sustain services and infrastructure in them. At the same time, the culture of high population density encourages liberal political views, so liberal areas, which tend to be fueled by urban population centers, tend be net exporters of tax money. However, this isn't actually an unnatural situation, since you can't really separate rural and urban communities like that. Cities simply can't sustain themselves in a vacuum; extensive rural farming communities are a prerequisite for urbanization. A balanced economy capable of supporting these economically efficient cities requires stable rural communities to be integrated into the transportation network, and that means investing in rural infrastructure out of proportion to the wealth of the rural areas served. I could be wrong about all this, though. This isn't even something I read in a book somewhere, it's just my theory.

-snip-
Seems sound to me, and though I'm no certified expert, I had enough information in relation to the subject at hand shoved down my throat that I'm not spouting off random junk either.
Do note, however, that that statistic may have been made somewhat biased by an additional factor:
Flyover country, that Red part of the country that's pretty desolate and pretty conservative. Less people means less sources from which to draw taxes. Though they don't compose of ALL the Red states, there are certainly enough of them to affect that statistic.
More on topic. . . Hm. Do we need any ideas for C++? I could maybe dig up some ideas from my C+++ relatives, if that helps. . . well, at least if I can do it from afar.

Heh. We must have better conservatives where I live, since the conservative "states" are actually funding the "liberal" (we call 'em "social democratic") "states" around here. Then again, the conservative party/-ies around here is more along the lines of m...L instead of C+...C.

Jesus, these sound like NationStates issue-effect blurbs.

Not really, as an EVIL ARCH-CONSERVATIVE myself I think that most liberals have no idea about guns, either classification or shootification. You can find lots of videos of Real Life Liberals showing their lack of gun knowledge, to the point of saying that banning some magazines(which are reuseable) will cause people to use up their magazines and not be able to get more, or calling a Civvie AR-15 a fully-automatic weapon. As for shooting, Floyd Corkins (who was attacking the FRC based on a hate map published by the SPLC) couldn't even manage to kill one security guard.
So no, I don't think that many Liberal criminals would be that competent.
Note: I make distinctions between 'Liberal', liberal, and Democrat.

You liberals are so bad at murdering people, heh

I'm saying that LCS liberals are not the Liberal Stereotype, unlike PTGG?? said.

Well, in the Symbionese Liberation Army safehouse siege (which LCS is greatly inspired by), the SLA fired thousands of rounds and didn't hit a single police officer. So even the inspiration for LCS is like that. That wouldn't make much of a game though, save maybe an art game.
I would say LCS is more like how the SLA saw themselves, rather than how the rest of the world saw them or how they really were. It's just that we have to stretch the game's underlying assumptions into absurdity in order for their worldview to be realized. I have several times referenced the Illuminati: New World Order card (http://kardkrazy.ecrater.com/p/8508736/illuminati-semiconscious-liberation-army-nwo) here.

Yeah, I know about ACAs. I still think requiring an ELA to win (thus, having an issue get to L++) is worthwhile for parity's sake.

Weather Underground is the other leftist terrorist group that springs to mind, but their attacks weren't intended to kill people.
-
I like the idea that the extreme side of liberalism pretty much wraps around back to the arch-conservative nightmare again. Like "Abortions are mandatory", which is just as little freedom of choice as "Abortion is illegal". Or trying to enforce free speech, which just means nobody can tell the difference between your real opinion and the mandated "free speech" you're supposed to be engaging in. A minimum wage of $100 per hour would mean that the people who work for little or nothing under arch-conservative laws are simply unemployed (though presumably on welfare) because nobody can pay them.
If LCS makes a serious political statement beyond the satire, it's just that taking things to the extreme is a bad idea. I always thought it was deliciously ironic that the LCS espouses gun control (and shoots people), supports free speech (and brainwashes people), and supports workers' rights (and doesn't pay the people who work for the LCS). But that's the funny part--you're playing a bunch of people who are so delusional they can't even see their own double standard, who are convinced that they people they're fighting against are equally delusional (granted, in Nightmare mode, they actually are). You get to look at the whole thing, shake your head and go, "Man, these people are all nuts!"

Actually, weather underground is a very useful website...

1: Let's go to the firing range, mister, and we'll see if you got a deadeye to match that mouth.
2: On second thought, go get your damned turn taken care of in the SMAC game. THEN we can go shooting.
