March 1st. 2009:
My name is Jacob Jackson.
The conservatives have been a menace for longer than I’ve been alive. It was them who enslaved the poor, them who polluted the water and them who corrupted society into the foul mess that it is today. But they made a mistake. They made me strong, they made me angry, and they made me their enemy.
I was not alone. I had been recruited to the Liberal Crime squad, a group of radical leftists. Together, we had attacked and killed the conservative swine, but it seemed like our efforts had no impact. But I had my eyes on something bigger. I had my eyes on doing something that would shake the entire country.
Persus was the one who started it all. None of us knew his real name; none of us knew where he had come from. But he had come, and he had Liberated us from out oppression. He was wounded, and he had passed the command onto me, but it was clear that I was no leader. It was still him that inspired us.
Daphne was a kind lass who had a mind as quick as her feet, but she did not belong on the front lines.
Sabrina was a girl who knew her way around a guitar, and could cause quite the stir with her music.
Kenneth was a mutant like me, and Sabrina’s partner in music.
Jesse was another mutant one with quite the tailoring skill.
Carl had been a modern-day slave, making clothes sixteen hours a day. He was still suffering from his years of abuse, and we needed to support him through it.
The other Carl was another mutant, who was a failed law student, though he still knew his way around the books.
And finally there was Jane, the third in our musical trio. Where the others were the performers, she took the business side of things.
And so I took my first orders as leader of the Liberal Crime Squad. The first order of business was to split up. Persus was wanted for murder, and he in danger. At any point the door could come crashing down, and the police would execute us all for being in the same room as him. I had to separate him from the others. There was only one person I trusted to stay with him while he was wounded, and that was me. He would come with me to the Abandoned toy factory. The others would keep their noses clean.
March 2nd, 2009:
Once we were set up, Persus was happy to continue writing letters. I made sure he had a rifle to defend himself if something happened while I was gone, and left to head to the homeless shelter. I wanted to spread the liberal word.
March 3rd, 2009:
I needed more mobility to get around. Going by foot just wasn’t cutting it. We didn’t have enough money to buy a car, and I didn’t know how to steal one. I needed to find someone who could. I set off to the park.
Although I didn’t end up finding a locksmith like I wanted, I did find a man who was more magnetic than any other I had met. Thor McPhail was his name.
Similarly, Paige Riffle was full of Liberal vigour, and she happened to know a thing or two about locks.
March 4th:
I decided to head to the internet café, to see if I could find anyone who knew about science.
I talked to a bunch of engineers, but with no success. I decided that the best thing to do would be to take some courses at the local university.
March 14th: I’ve finally learned enough from the university to feel confident putting it to the test. I headed off the the housing projects. I felt bad to steal from the poor and impoverished, but I knew that they would be better off supporting us. I cracked all the locks and stole what little I could, which was not enough. However, I was able to gain two new recruits in Thor and Paige.
March 15th:
The three of us hit up the university apartments. Lots of loot to be had there, and I was able to show them a bit about lockpicking. However, we were spotted and had to run away.
March 16th:
I asked our tailors for police uniforms. They set to work while we hit up the downtown apartments. Breaking into the doors wasn’t a problem, but avoiding conservative eyes was. Although we weren’t caught in any rooms, we couldn’t keep out cool and were outed.
Match 17th:
I decided we needed some wheels. I set the three of us to fan out, and we each tried find a car. It would be a sports car or nothing.
March 19th:
Paige managed to hotwire a car:
March 20th:
With out new-found mobility, we went to the nuclear power plant. How I would love to melt the whole place down, but instead we had to satisfy ourselves with smashing their displays.
March 21st:
We went to the power plant again, this time wearing our uniforms. A fake badge and all eyes turned away from us.
March 22nd:
To the police station we went today. We were able to free so many oppressed from its lockup.
March 23rd:
We went to the Army base today. They have mountains of equipment lying about, but it’s all behind doors that we couldn’t open.
March 24th: Army base again today. We were able to get past the first set of doors and grab a M4, but the rest of the doors were beyond us.
March 25th: Jackpot. M4s and body armour for all. We looted to army base of everything short of the armoury. The ordinary soldiers gave us no notice, and the canines were charmed to the liberal cause.
March 26: We went to the pawnshop to sell loot and buy amminution. We were fully stocked and had $4500 left over.
March 27th: Fully armed and armoured, we went to the crack house to try and eliminate the gangs that controlled it. Though there were only three of us, and we were not very good at shooting, out uniforms let us pick our battles and we fought where we outnumbered them.
March 28th: We went to the homeless shelter, to see if we could round up some other supporters for the liberal cause, but none seemed promising.
March 29th: We went to the CEO castle. Upon arriving, it was clear that our army uniform would not pass here, so we left
March 30th: We returned to the CEO castle, this time wearing police uniform. We tried to get into the safe, but it was beyond us.
March 31st: We donned the body armour again and headed for the power plant. This time, we were here to recruit a lab tech.
Over the whole of march, we were up by £1344.
April 1st: We moved from the toy factory to the fertilizer plant to avoid police attention.
April 2nd: We went to the cable news station. However, the body armour gave us away and we had to retreat.
April 3rd: We went to the news station again, this time wearing police uniforms. We had much more success, putting on a wildly popular show.
April 4th: We snuck into the prison, but couldn’t get past the locked door.
April 5th: We kitted up in body armour and rifles again, and went to thin out the gang members at the crackhouse again. We were also able to gain a new LCS member that day – Bartholemew Tailboys, lab tech. He was immediately put to work teaching science.
April 6th: We went to the Plastic factory to cause trouble. However, we realized too late that army bodyarmour was unsuitable.
April 7th: To the crackhouse again. We needed to juice up. However, a rifle mistake alienated everyone and we retreated.
April 8th: Crackhouse again.
April 9th: Crackhouse again.
April 10th: To the abandoned Toy factory to avoid heat buildup
April 11th: It looks like the toy factory is not secret enough still. We rented a downtown apartment for maximum secrecy. We were able to stay for free.
April 12: We all headed to the university to get even more science learning under our belts.
April 23rd: We started repeairing and cleaning the clothes and armour we had.
April 28th: The three of us headed to the nuclear power plant. We picked the lock to the side door, stepped through and realised that army body armour would not be a good disguise here. We retreated.
April 29th: We came back the next day wearing police uniforms. M16s stashed in out packs. Again we picked the lock to the side door, and we crept through the building, until we finally arrived at what we came for – the controls to the power plant.
This is what I had spent the past two months trying to do. I tried to remember what I could of my crash course in science…
The tension between the three of us was so thick it was almost suffocating…
And then it paid off. The reactor overloaded.
We rushed outside the building and played the part of police officers, reassuring everybody that everything was under control. Once we made it to the car, we floored it.
This is the moment of change for the LCS. Previously, we were just another gang, a negligible blip in the murder rates in a poor part of town. The news took no notice of us, our message could not be spread, and the public would wallow in silence. Now things change. We have struck a great blow against the conservative establishment. Across the country, the world even, the name of the Liberal Crime Squad will be known. The oppressors will try to denounce us, will channel the media hate machine against us. Already they are emptying their dictionaries, calling us murderers, thieves, even terrorists. But we are none of those; we are Liberators, and the LCS will prevail.
But it will not prevail with me in charge. My days have come to an end. I was never a leader of the LCS. I neglected out members, treating them as nothing more than cattle to support my personal efforts. My role as leader is over, the position shall pass to one of my lieutenants. I will stay with the LCS, but I shall not try to lead again. I have done what I wanted, struck a great blow against the nuclear filth that pollutes the country. Even if I die now, I shall die a victorious martyr, for the winds of change are blowing, and the LCS will be victorious.
