((Nope, sorry that unclear. I'm gonna go tweak the listing, I think I know how to state it more clearly.
You'll probably never see anything with a +4 basic attack, that's a 91% hit rate. The intent is that it's base attack, which by preference is biting or kicking is +2. The Special Attacks section is intended to list variations of that. Modifiers listed there are absolute, not cumulative with it's base stat bonuses.))

Not as much as my secret plan.Sneak away from the pack so when it attack, I can run up the tail and start biting the headi predict this ending hilariously.
Ironhide glances around.
"Watch it! There's a Big-Tooth!"
Look around the arena and determine two things:
1. Is there a ceiling?
2. Are there trees around which could be climbed fairly easily?
If 2 is Yes, climb up a nearby tree, out of the Big-Tooth's reach. If not, try to find some place to get out of its line-of-sight.
"i changed my mind, can i go back in the water cave?"
Taking care not to attract the large predators attention prematurely Pariah follows Dwarmin a steady pace and tries to keep himself in the edge of the big-tooth's vision ready to distract it by hollering at the top of his lungs and flaring his feathers aggressively should it gain too much ground on his pack mate.
move to maintain a far distance from the Acrocanthosaurus and medium from Dwarmin, do not exert myself unless im forced to manipulate the creature.
if it gets too close to Dwarmin, manipulate creature: Trick the Acrocanthosaurus into charging at me (as in flavor text above) and try to lure it past McDreich if he is unnoticed.
otherwise, try to discern or remember any other details about this creature or its attack patterns.

So Hungry! Say Hello to TINY MEALS.
Toehook does a battle squall.
"Yyyyark! Lemme at em! Bet you can't catch me, you...big...mouth...full of teeth!"
Action: Run around, and goad the big tooth to chase me around a bit so he gets a big winded. I'm much faster then he is!
''Why am I the one thinking of ambush?''
Hide: Staying close to Dwarmin and Pariah, hide behind a log or high shrubbery.
If hiding succeeded, but big dino is in medium range: remain hidden.
If hiding succeeded and big dino gets into close range: Ambush the belly and grab it.
((Mmm, belly nice and soft... ish. I dread the idea of facing an anklosaurus.))
While the others distract it, try to get behind it without being spotted/targeted.
In other news "Erectopus" is apparently the name of a real
dinosaur species. That is all.
Genus =/= Species
Locate nearest climbable tree. Sneak to it and climb it.
Holler at the top of my lungs and flare my feathers aggressively whilst making mock charges at the bigtooth in an attempt to divert its attention to me and drop its guard against the others.
If it charges me, lure it past one of my hidden teammates
If not, try again.
Sneak close and bite the right leg.
Eat noisy one that's mocking me!
AHGH! TOO CLOSE!
Since scap is biting it's leg, use my stealthy Cunning bonus to jump on it's back!
Toehook notices everyone was hitting the right leg...
!
Action: Barrel toward it's right leg and headbutt it, hopefully knocking it off balance! Hit and Run!
Oh blimey! Sorry, thought I had posted:
Actions: Sneak into close range if not already.
AMBUSH! Grab onto that damn belly.
Activate Brachiation Mode to get over towards the Bigtooth.
Attack the belly.
spend entire turn reaching bigtooth.
Get up, spin around and roar at all the little bitey things!
"Yeeerk!" Toehook yeerk'd!
His Dad, Slider, would be so proud!
Action: Claw the exposed belly while he's down!
ATTACK BELLY. KILL KILL KILL!
Use my claws on it's eyes! Blind it!
Toehook was too stupid and brave to feel pain, but he thought he should get up before the bigfoot stomped on him!
Action: Get up quick before I got stomped on!
(Wondering where my +1 defense went to. I imagine that since I didn't say to KEEP clinging to the belly that I can't argue that one as well.)
((Go us!))
Drop on top of the Bigtooth's head, using my momentum to increase the force behind my attack as I attack the Bigtooth's head!
tear at the bigtoes ankle tendon on the same side dwarmin is attacking.
If bigtooth is knocked over by the end of turn, jump up onto its side.
If not, cling to its leg.
((Perhaps you could include a charge action that burns twice as much vigor but lets you reach and attack targets in the same turn?))
Leap on to and cling to the tail. Bite it to help grip and damage.
Get it off get it off!!!!
Toehook was too stupid and brave to feel pain, but he thought he should get up before the bigfoot stomped on him!
Action: Bite the bigtoes knee! He'll never be an adventurer like me!

Leap up to belly and attack it, and try to cling on to it!
Jump on it's back again!
Where was my turn?
I imagine this big beast has it's hands full trying to fend off so many attacks, so hopefully that'll help me!It would help, if it didn't attack with its teeth.
I'm actually glad someone said that. I was like... ah, I can't be arsed coming up with a different one, so went with it. :)I imagine this big beast has it's hands full trying to fend off so many attacks, so hopefully that'll help me!It would help, if it didn't attack with its teeth.
Watch how you use them metaphors, sonny.
((Hey joben, can you put the special actions like grip, rush and ambush back in the op, i find having the specific details on hand helpful for my strategising.))
(reasoning: that thing's +2 defense has to be countered by a +2 offense from ambush, so I can get to grips with the belly again, see if I can get to some viscera sooner rather than later.)
((Mastahcheese, your action has been processed. You manged to hop onto one of it's legs and did a little damage. You didn't manage to climb as high as it's back yet though.))Ok then, Keep climbing!
tear at the tendons on the inside of the knee.
If the bigtooth falls over jump off towards the underside of its tail to avoid being crushed and then loop around begind it and jump onto its other leg to avoid being struck whilst dismounting or mounting
Bite and scratch at the Bigtooth's eye. Don't fall off.
I imagine this big beast has it's hands full trying to fend off so many attacks, so hopefully that'll help me!
STEALTH MODE ACTIVATE! Keep to the shrubbery.
If need be, sneak to keep within close range of the big tooth.

Action: More slashing at the legs!
Hide again while it looking at other things
Ok then, Keep climbing!
You scratch away at it's face doing a little damage.((Attack/Damage roll? And am I still pinned?))
Toehook hooted happily! Big Tooth was clumsy and easy to knock down!latch onto the weaker leg and tear the tendons to pieces.
This time, he oriented on the meaty left leg, slashing down at the thick muscles. But, he was moving quick-the Bigtooth used that long tail of his it seemed, when he was encircled...he didn't want to get smacked up again...
Action: Slash it's left leg, then scoot out of range before the tail swipe!
((OOC: I wonder if there's any bonus to guessing my enemies move and acting appropriately toward it?))
Fine we'll take out both legs

2. What am I pinned by? Didn't the Bigtooth fall over?
Alrighty, it's prone and I'm stealthed... ish. :P
Ambush and attack on that belly.
Cling to said belly.
I will not be happy until that thing's trying to survive with half of its entrails hanging out!

latch onto the weaker leg and tear the tendons to pieces.
(nothing I can think of. How about weak trees(that could be timbered on to the Acrocanthosaurus))
Charge in and bite the Arms
Oh. I thought it stepped on me.
Wriggle out from under Bigtooth. If I am not pinned, get up and climb a tree.
I liked the part where Mastahcheese was riding on the Bigtooth's head while it snapped at Dwarmin. That mental image made me laugh.
shred the weaker leg, cling to the crippled limb.
Climb tree, brachiate above the Bigtooth again.
Blind that jerk!
Hahaha step on fallen one!
Toehook yeerk'd away, limping a bit. He had to get the bigtooths attention off him...
Not now!
Action: Keep nimble! Evade until it stops paying attention to me!
Geez... this thing has GOT to die!
Attack that damn Belly.
Cling to that damn Belly.
Nash the Left Leg
FINISH OFF THE BELLY! BITE, CHEW, CLAW, RIP!
More officially: Attack belly, keep clinging (reaction: jump away if bigtooth falls.) If possible, get head in to bite some important organ (which will hopefully, take all it's energy in one go, and save our comrade!)
Drop into the Bigtooth's shoulders and cling onto it! Begin biting and clawing at the back of the neck and base of the skull!
wiggle free, defend.
Eat Sandvich!
Claw the eyes more! Try to distract if from brutally murdering my ally!

Furiously attack the back of the neck/base of the skull!
defend and run to the space next to and just behind the bigtooths right leg where it will be really awkward for it to hit me.
Deal with most worrisome threat.
Action: Flanking strike with Scapheap on left leg!
Flanking Strike with Dwarmin on the left leg
Furious attack the belly.
Furiously rip its eyes out of it's skull!
When this eventually works, you all will thank me.
Toehook wanted to push to his limits!
Action: No resting! Attack it's left leg again furious strike!
Free my friend!
Attack the arms.
Wriggle Free!
My Belly! Thrash! Panic!
Furious Attack the side of the neck, cursing in Raptor around streams of drool hopefully laced with Bigtooth blood!
furious strike on the left leg, unless someone calls a flanking strike on it in which case join them.
With Mastahcheese on it face, I shall Sneak Attack the arms
((I can furiously attack and cling simultaneously right?))

Cling to and furiously cripple the left leg already
((That makes the bonuses 1+1 vs 2-1 right?))
Bite and stuff, aiming closer to the base of the skull!
((all right guys, Toehook is done in this fight! He's got no's vigor lefts!))
Action: Auto-defend at max range/Evade combat for rest of battle until the big one falls!
Furiously Kick Unholy in the face!
Be a outlooker for Unholy_Pariah
(Dwarmin, I suggest you like... get to far distance then do nothing or rest so as not to burn any more vigor... I presume you CAN do that.)
Furious attack the left leg.
Fury on it's tail!
Joben, would it be possible to save vigor of one of the hunters by having another carry it? I ask specifically as, unless going further than far range burns no vigor, then Unholy Pariah will still run out after next turn.
move to max range
Action: Yip! I flee!
Keep attacking the neck! Bite and rip, make it bleed a lot!
Try to spot weakest foe, Furiously kill it with final effort.
Bite it's face while it's down!
Continue outlooking for Unholy
fair enough.
Retreat to medium range. Taunt cos this thing's practically dead.

1. I can't find much fault with it-I do like the system of vigor being stam/HP. It's easy to understand.
2. A better way of describing wounds might be helpful, but that's just a UI issue. I wasn't sure if I was hurting it at some point.
3. Nope, but I'm horrible with numbers anyway.
4. Glad to have you back, Joben. :)
5. I would say endurance check entirely. As you alluded to earlier in a post, some animals can fight long after they're probably going to be medically dead. But, I'd make it somewhat permanent-once you fall down, you're not likely to get back up. Either from a 'coup de grace' or instant kill maneuver (such as being swallowed whole or torn apart by a large pack) or simple exhaustion. Since this game is going for the realistic side, it shouldn't be really be easy to kill anything bigger than ourselves, and we'd have to pick our fights carefully. Also, as a player, I'd rather fight to the bitter end, then limp along not hitting anything or being useful because of my massive penalties-which would make me more likely to retreat, anyway.
@Joben: It was more of an overall thing. Like, if I did 4 damage to the 'monster, I was confused as to where that showed up on the char sheet. Just the wound system in general, I was puzzled with. I didn't really completely understand the number/base/wound table.
When does this system get to the point where you just die of your injuries?
Do we have to just keep tearing away at large creatures until all their vigor bleeds away or can we kill them by dealing a set amount of damage even if they still have heaps of vigor. (Like rendering their head to -50 hp)
I feel this way so often.Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I meant to give feedback!!!
First off, totes in for next round.
Roight:
I love your system (I also agree on the D10 change thar). I love how it works and how you've gone for realistic yet gamey approach, I think you've done a good job reconciling the two.
I think the teamwork actions are vital. Point of raptors is that they were greater together than the sum of their parts, so I like the team actions. We'll get to see all of them I would think in round 2.
Will mention that I feel that raptors should get a bonus to their attacks when there are raptors clinging onto the creature (unless it's random thrash, naturally) to simulate how the dinosaur would not really be able to concentrate aswell on a target when he has some on him.
I'd hazard a suggestion at for every 2 raptors currently riding the dinosaur, +1 attack for all raptors.
Saying that, I wouldn't put it in until we get a few more rounds in to test current balance. :P
So hoping we get an easier prey. Our battered raptors means we only have... 3 to 4 combat worthy raptors.
((Fuck yeah, got half eaten by a T-Rex look alike and im still in hunting form.((Sounds like a plan to ,e.))
As for tactics, perhaps myself and the other less stealthy/more cunning hunters should head upwind of our prey and guide it into an ambush?))
(yup. According to the wiki, we should focus on the younger of these prey.)((Obviously.))
((Im thinking that You, McDriech, and myself should perform i pincer manouvre with one of us startling it causing it to back up a bit then the other two come at it from the rear and the far side relative to our hidden hunters then we all start screaming like banshees and cause it to flee straight to Dwarmin and the other two who promptly ambush it with wild leaping attacks.((Impressive plan. But you know what they say about making rabbit stew, right?))
As long as we stay at least a medium distance while "chasing" it this strategy would give Dwarmin a whopping +7 to his initial attack and if combined with a flanking mock charge and a clinging attack this increases to +9
Take the new D10 system into account and he can deal anywhere between 0-36 damage.))

manipulate creature. Alter its direction wihout panicking it instantly
Noticing the tentosaurus coming towards him Unholy remains hidden and begins making quite noises similar to a raptors typical hunting calls in order to make it think that there are a pack of raptors some distance away in that general direction, not enogh to panick it but enough to discourage continuing in his direction.
if successful follow it towards the ambush party/mock charge if it closes to within Dwarmins range.
if not try again but louder.
Oh dang it, why now?Because you didn't do it earlier, when you posted your comment.
((Err wow I came to bump this but apparently it's only been a day since the last post. My time sense is messed up this week. :o
But since I'm here anyway I'll point out GWG posted a comment but not an action. Whatcha wanna do as the is ambush kicks off buddy? For some reason I feel like revealing that Unholy successfully sends it toward Dwarmin. I already wrote part of the turn.
Oh Also, while I'm addressing players midturn. Dwarmin if you wanna express a preference on what bodypart you're trying to injure before I post the results that would be groovy. I could havethe diceToehook pick, but he's a doofus. ;) ))

Spot for the others, to give them a better chance.
Move to within medium range if possible. Try and remain Hidden.
Remain still
Continue forward. Leap onto it, attacking, aiming for the nearest leg.flanking strike with GWG
This is weird but I just now noticed that there is no R in scapheaps's name...I think I may have been spelling it scrapheap for the last month. Sorry about that.(It no problem, it a persevered spelling mistake from my runescape's days.)
((Heh. If it had rolled anything less than a four, I'd have taken that leg off in one hit...))
Toehook rolled through the leaves, hooting happily. He swallowed a chunk of meat and reoriented again, getting on his feet...he was aware of the other hunters ready to strike, however...he had to get it's attention on him.
He arched his tail and roared!
Not being the most cunning Hunter that was ever born.
Action: Use Mock attack on it, and be wary.
Move to Close range, Rush if need be. (Ambush if possible) Wild Leap on Left Leg. Cling to leg.
((Apparently, not flank attacking with Scapheap XD))
Shake off enemies, run!
Continue forward. Leap onto it, flank-attacking with Unholy Pariah, aiming for the nearest leg.

Wait till the target is in close range and strike
Keep looking to make sure there isn't a second enemy sneaking up on us.
(Can't be too careful, and you guys seem to be doing great.)
close to close range and perform a leaping attack on its weakest leg latching on if successful.
Move to cut off it escape route.
Deffo need this turn before that Tento, hopefully I can disable this leg. Don't presume I can leap attack... cos I'm on it, but all the same :P)
Wild Attack that Leg. Keep Clinging
Shake off enemies, flee if possible
Action: Chase and gnaw that injured leg!
Continue the chase! Attempt to attack it, ideally hitting a leg!
Ok, get closer for an attack.
Secure my grip and continue ripping at the teno.
Rip and tear at its leg, jump off if it begins to fall over.
Action: Start biting it's tail! Nom nom nom!
Mock Attack the target
charge the one making all the fuss
Wild attack that leg!
Charge furiously at the thing! Eat it's face!
A sudden jolt catches you off balance as you strike and you go tumbling off!Nice pic, although the species look a bit off. Where'd you find it? Just a deviantart search?Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This is too easy, so I'm very much aware that once this thing's down, we'll probably have to defend it. A few of us should conserve vigor.I spent quite a few turns scouting for other jerks looking to steal from us.
Nenjin, that was beautiful.
Nenjin, that was beautiful.
Nenjin
Nerjin actually.Sorry, I have trouble noticing that it's an R.
Mastah, I doubt these creatures will appear until we've killed this thing, but it might be prudent all the same. I'll do it once I've been flung off or the creatures dead to make use of my higher senses. :)Good point, I'll keep eating faces.

2) At this point, wouldn't it be wiser to wait until it runs out of vigor?
Yes, and we could also sit around and debate the philosophical ramifications of a group of predators attacking a weaker adversary in hopes of reaching some sort of tithing system where the weaker animals will give away their dead/dying to the predators to end their suffering, keep the predators fed, and the non-dying herbivores keep not being dead.
2) At this point, wouldn't it be wiser to wait until it runs out of vigor?I'm 60-70% certain that raptors didn't hunt like that.
Considering the inherent problems with stating absolutely how raptors hunted I won't presume to tell you guys what to do.Alright, let me rephrase that.
I made sure that the game play would support this, so it's there if you want it. On the individual scale you can spend turns resting out of reach, or if you all agree we can skip forward several minutes until the next interesting thing happens. This means that something is going to happen. Who was the paranoid raptor, anyway?
continue attacking its leg.
Get up, find an opportunity to strike one of the uninjured (or the least-injured) limbs!
Move to Body. Attack Body.
This is too easy, so I'm very much aware that once this thing's down, we'll probably have to defend it. A few of us should conserve vigor.
Be very unhappy. Try to stomp on guy who ate my face.
Rip off some more skin, latch onto it's face.
Action: Imma get that tail! Wild Attack!
Attack the body

((Well, I guess that you only have to finish the head and that will be the last chance of escaping of that thing. Hell, you can inflict like 3 wounds in the next turn, and it will run out of vigor in like, 2 turns then.))

Attack the head
Attack the body.
punch mastahcheese in the face.

manipulate raptor into leaving and/or flank with GWG
''We did. That bigtooth was HELL, but not only did we bring it down, none of us died! FEAR US!''
Sense roll, see if she's accompanied by anything and where it is.
((Dang, I get pretty beat up back there))
Continue eating, under the hopes that it infuriates the female, and causes her to charge, leaving her open to the pincer move by GWG and Unholy.
I still get my +2 cunning!
Toehook was still playing with the twitchy tasty tail that was all his.
"You can have what's left after we're done..." He says in slightly awestruck tones. He had never seen one of those kind before. He knew she would eat him rather than share a kill, but she was pretty to look at all the same. So he continued eating, waiting for something to happen.
...Come to think of it, he couldn't remember ever having seeing anything. He knew what a 'teno' was, but couldn't recall consciously seeing or tasting one before this moment. In fact, he didn't even remember being born. Where was this place, he idly wondered-and why couldn't they leave? He was sure it was the same area-his nose could still detect Bigtooth blood under the dirt and ground, very deep and with strange smells over it. But the land itself was different every time...
But, then there was a pleasant click somewhere in the back of his skull, and he stopped thinking about any of it.
Action: Continue eating, ignoring the pretty raptoress request
Hang back but hard stare her

Leave now, this is your final warning."
manipulate creature into leaving, if it fails defend if attacked or attack if a party member is attacked.
Stand my ground, for now. Attack if they charge and get in range. Otherwise, try to intimidate them away.
((Appearances, people.))
"You don't even care about the meat. Why are you really here?"
Question their actions. Determine motives.
''... You seem... awfully well fed to need to steal our kill...''
After saying that to aid Mastah's questioning, try to sense the second raptor to precise location and if it is male.
(I have a theory... it might be wrong, but all the same.)
Move toward her
(The thing is, I missed the new turn and when I got the PM, I looked again and missed the new turn again and got confused. I found it this time.)
Hesitate
Follow Orders. Stick to the plan.

We've got five hunters since scapheap got himself killed.(Sill alive, in melee range of neck)
Red continues her conversation with Unholy_Pariah, her confidence restored "...Or perhaps you will never lay a claw on my skin.""You are counting your chicks before they hatch, old leatherwing. And you've killed one of my pack; you had best hope you do not survive this fight, or we will make your passing painful and slow."
Red continues her conversation with Unholy_Pariah, her confidence restored "...Or perhaps you will never lay a claw on my skin."Leaping latch attack on red, defend afterwards.

((Yes, I had just seen Catching Fire on Sunday. (It was pretty good BTW. I think the whole series is a little silly, but it was a fun watch)((Eh. I liked the book better. The movie felt a bit off. I didn't feel much concern for the characters, which I realized during the monkey-attack scene where the monkeys kindly chose to attack one or two at a time. Also, was it just me or did Katniss act a lot more melodramatic than she did in the book? I don't seem to recall her switching from calm to screaming, crying wreck right before she entered the arena, for instance.)
(I would like to hear about this.)((You think that's bad? Try having a hundred superheroes and -villains fighting a giant hydrokinetic snake in Toronto. Ugh, that bit was horrible.))Spoiler: GM Notes (click to show/hide)
((Most of them were NPCs, I started abstracting most of the actions--although I had to figure out what each of them did, for the most part--and a lot of the supers started dying before they all arrived, not to mention that that bit of the game's over now...but here (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=132911.msg4741936#msg4741936).))(I would like to hear about this.)((You think that's bad? Beat Red's head in viciously and don't let go.
Action: Moar wild attacks on sisters body!

How low does Red's head's HP need to be before her brains splatter out? Or at least get damaged enough that she stops moving?
Attack Red's head if this is a possibility. If not, go for the belly if proneness negates the attack penalty. Otherwise, bite/claw the neck.
viciously maul reds head one last time.
Attack Unholy)
Switch over to the sister, attack her wounded areas!
Toehook floats away, his last thoughts fluttering like...Spoiler (click to show/hide)

"told you id beat you." sighs pariah to red before staggering off exhaustedly.
Defend, move away from sister and mate if possible.
With my last breath...
((Ding dong, the queen is dead!))
Ironclaw smirked, or rather opened her mouth slightly, which raptors do instead of smirking. "We have defeated your queen. Run, Big Ones, run."
Intimidate. Charge at, leap at, and attack Sister's body (Lead/Fury attack. -5 Vigor.)
Run up attack someone near Red's body. Be desperate.
Eat the Sister's heart. And other meat.Do this as well. Except I'll take Red's brains.
Mourn the dead. Consider eating them if we have to stah here long enough.
