Title: Making a playlist - need help.
Post by: Nospherat on October 10, 2013, 04:27:47 pm
So, I'm making a playlist, as stated, and I need your help.

I need things with a heavy dark atmosphere to fit an apocalyptic world. Preferably instrumental but not mandatory.

So far, I have:

Walid Feghali - Empty world (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMpTaxWFmUA)
John Murphy - In a heartbeat (28 days later OST)  (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ST2H8FWDvEA)
Tomandandy - Tokyo (resident Evil OST)  (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBSKSIxnGjI)
Zack Hemsey - The Way  (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oN2Xs-MvxLw)
zYnthetic - The stitches are a reminder (Killing Floor OST) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vee0COnL-I&list=PL815D4D1865A20A96)
Hans Zimmer - Time (Inception OST)  (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxabLA7UQ9k)

And I'm scouring the earth (and youtube) for dark ambient tracks that have the distinct "we're all gonna die" vibe to them.

Care to help me?
Please?

GRV Music - Darkness (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktBtwBj0xnU)
Two Steps From Hell - Tyrianis (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYzJQ5FERkc) (not really "ambient", but it's dark for sure)

Ah, one more thing, less "heroic apocalyptic battle" and more "hopeless dark", I'll ask for that separately.
(I'm frequently listening to Two steps from hell archangel/defenders of the eath/to glory)

This is the "bleak" playlist. :)

if this is just for personal use, then you may be interested in the extremely lonely portal 2 complete soundtrack. somehow it has an entirely different feel than the game itself, especially part one. just listen to ghost of rattman (http://grooveshark.com/#!/s/Ghost+Of+Rattman/5bktUY?src=5) or potatos lament. doug rattman is one sad little man  :(

also, anything from plasma3music will be amazing, but i'm not sure if he has any depressing music. check him out anyway, he deserves mor attention than he gets.

Well, not sure if you want other entire playlists on their own, but this one is pretty dark and bleak (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OiHjceyENz4). Special mention in my eyes going to the track at 6:32, even though it's more "we're past the end and everything is dead" and less "we're approaching the end and everything is going to die". Despite what my usual demeanour suggests, i have a soft spot for really dark music. :U

I recommend the Homeworld (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3SOaUvoakI) Cataclysm (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdLF8MRg0i8) soundtrack (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3GcvqtO_7Y).  Not all of them are that bleak, but they are all ambient and mostly dark.

Hopeless? Bleak? Heavy? Dark? Instrumental?
My friend, have you ever heard of Post Rock? It is almost a genera of what you need.
Mogwai - Hunted By A Freak (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8psR9I1pwg) should get you started.

apocalyptic world.

Well as a matter of fact

dark ambient tracks

Oh.  Well, they're not instrumental, but a lot of (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhJbqzULa2w) Tool songs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_z2O289Jemo) are long enough and light enough oh lyrics that they're almost ambient.  And of course there's always the Fallout soundtrack.

I have other (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6EFg5eWWlM) recommendations (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5ra5-rAoH0) for apocalyptic music, but it's pretty much the opposite of what you're looking for.
