Title: The Battle for Statisgrad
Post by: Sheb on May 04, 2014, 11:33:39 am
Spoiler: Intro for Statics (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Intro for 'Scans (click to show/hide)

So, it's a capture the flag. The goal is to grab the "Heart of the City", a gem that control the city's vibrating and bring it back to your deployment zone.

Turn Order
(Thanks to GlyphGryph for this)
1. First player to post goes first
2. Players can choose to attack (2ap), move(1ap), or disengage(2ap).
3. When a player attacks another player, combat starts.
4. The player who initially attacked goes first, and attacks the defending player.
5. If the defending player survives, they then either
-If they chose to attack back, get a single attack at their attacker
-if they chose to disengage, they will move one space from their attacker
-If they chose anything else (solely moving, or attacking a third party), then they do nothing
6. Goto 4 until the initiator has completed all attacks/actions.
7. If the defender survives, and the attacker still has AP (likely, if they started adjacent and the defender disengaged), they continue on with their actions as normal.
8. When they are done, play proceeds as normal.

Actions Points
Each players get 6 actions points (AP) per turn, plus an extra 2 AP on its first turn. These are used for all actions:

-Moving an hex cost 1 AP (two if carrying the Heart)
-Attacking cost 2 AP and inflict 1d6 damage on a player next to the attacker
-Disengaging cost 2 AP, and let you move one space away from an attacker (see turn order)
-Grabbing/handing over the Heart cost 2 AP
-Using a building for various effects use 3 AP

HP
All players start with 10HP. A players with 0 or less HP is dead. Apart from special effects and items, the only way to regain HP is to gain a level, which restore all your HPs.

XP
Inflicting 1 damage or moving the Heart 1 hex bring 1XP. You need 10* your current level to gain a level. New level let you choose between two special abilities, raise your max HP by 2*new level and restore all your HPs.

Numbers basically go for 1 to 36 on the x axis (starting from left), and 1 to 16 on the y axis (starting from the bottom). Starting zones are 1 to 6 for 'scan and 30 to 36 for static. Also, I need your faction, not name, I messed up the sign-up sheet.

And I just noticed we have a Spirit Works on the 'Scan side a bit below GlyphGryph. We should totally use that to channel ghost magic at the enemy's faces.

If you want to know what Descan/Comrade P.'s bonuses would be, you need to get them to sign up and I'll make up their power on the spots.

Also, at lvl 1 you can only attack neighboring players. I'm trying not to think about how to handle attacking a player that is moving away.

I'm nerfing to 6 AP/turns, I feel you guys are moving too fast. To keep things fair, new players gets an extra 2 AP on their first turn.

I move to B1908 and grab the heart.
"Defend me IcyTea! I'm out of action points"

Move there FIRST. I then grab the gem and, losing the last of my AP, pass it off to the adjacent teammate with the most  AP (which should bring me down to zero)

If that doesnt work for some reason, just claw up the dude who grabbed it.

Teammates near the gem, please move next to me and offer to take the gem!

You can't. You only have 6 AP four of which would be used getting there and two of which would be used grabbing it.

Hmm.

Okay, you can now use a buildings for some special effect for 3 AP. I'll also take a page from Battle For Wesnoth and say that you regain full HP on level up. You also gain some extra HP.

Turn 2

Kadzar finds some books related to flying and gains [4][6] 10 XP it seems you cannot learn anything new from the flight school, but you earned a level! You can choose between two abilities:
Flight: You can use 2 APs to take off or land. While in the air, you can move for 0.5 AP, but cannot attack or carry the Heart.
Snipe: You can attack from two hexes away.

Playergamer also study the same books [1][3] and earn 4 XP.

Lyeos moves to the hospital. [4] You find a medikit!

TCM shoots TheFroggyNinja for [5] damage! GlyphGryph claws him for [5] more damage! TheFroggyNinja is dead!
Seeking to avenge his comrade, IcyTea runs up to TCM and send bread down his throat, choking him for [6] damages!

Actually, I am currently at the situation where not going first helps. LordSlowpoke has to burn AP to get near me and can only attack once. I can stand still and get 3 attacks' worth of AP, letting me finish off TCM and still attack LordSlowpoke twice. This said, I propose that we allow players to spend 2 AP to set up a counterattack for the first enemy to come in range.

What if they just need to post a new avatar for the purposes of the game? Like, in a post, but not actually using it?

Alternately, make it side specific: The statics can't change their avatars or they die, but the scans HAVE to change their avatars to respawn.

Perhaps attacks could have priority then? So attacks all occur first, and then movement later.

But then you could never move up and attack someone in the same turn.
Title: Re: The Battle for Statisgrad
Post by: IcyTea31 on May 06, 2014, 02:49:02 am
One solution would be to divide the turns to a movement phase and an action phase. APs are only regained in the beginning of the movement phase. In action phase, all actions are assumed simultaneous, so there could even happen mutual destruction. Of course, this could cause confusion as to what phase it currently is.

Okay, so players that die can come back after a 1 turn waiting time, starting again at level 1.
Also, something that wasn't clear: you cannot cross an hex occupied by another player. I changed Lordslowpoke's orders so he could still attack.

Finally, I realized there was some confusion about the cardinal directions, since the real, Stalingrad North actually is to the right of the map. Never mind this, north is now up.

Turn 3

Lordslowpoke bite IcyTea for [3] damages! IcyTea gets furious and unleash a torrent of attacks, [4] killing TCM and [4][4] seriously wounding Lordslowpoke! The amazing comba nets him a level! He can choose between two abilities:
Regeneration:You regain 2HP/turn.
Berserk:You gain one free attack per turn when you have less than 50% HP.

NewGuy rush at GlyphGryph, but didn't count his AP right and cannot attack him this turn.
Zanzetkuken The Great bitch-slap GlyphGryph for [6] damages!
stabbymcstabstab tries teleporting outside the game map and fails!
PlayerGamer reads the rules regarding the use of the Flight School and learn that he cannot use it anymore!r

Fellow 'scans, everyone who has the health to survive a single attack (aka not me) needs to rush the heart. The statics are forming a wall that must be knocked down if we will have a chance for victory! Focus fire, take out the stragglers, I will rejoin the fray as soon as I find a way to heal up. Don't let TCM's sacrifice be in vain!

I recommend striking from the southwest - group up, so any of them that dare attack end up in easy double-striking range of the others, and stay 3 hexes away (so moving to us they can only strike once)

Turn 4

IcyTea [4][1] kills LordSlowpoke and maim his dead body for some reasons.
GlyphGryph runs to the barracks and manage to convince [3] one of the recruits to join the 'scans!
Secretary General Comrade P. joins the fray! As leader of the statics, he has the following abilities.
Bureaucratic Fast-Track:Once a turn, you can have one of your men move first in the turn order.
Support From the Top: You can transfer up to 4 of your AP to other players.
Rolepgeek goes to the artillery park and find an howitzer! It cannot be moved, but for 6AP can be used to fire anywhere on the map. You need to roll 3+ on 1d6 to succeed and inflict 1d8 damage.
10ebbor10 decides to explore the Red October tractor factory. [6] In the Red Corner, a display about Stakhanov's incredible work ethics inspire him to work harder. He now has 7 AP/turn!

Glyphgryph, you've got a 8% chance to survive. Better sacrifice a goat to the RNG  :D. Or you could try to argue to the GM that "chargin the enemy" doesn't mean attacking you twice.

I am sacrificing 10 cows to Eurmal. Who knows what could happen!

Either way, he's in your update time zone, so I'm dead unless I both survive his attack AND get lucky enough to kill him, which isn't super likely. But my minion will hopefully live on even after I die! I will name my Conscript "MINIGRYPH", and we will join in glorious battle for the glory of the 'scans!

Sheb, you really should do it like in Wesnoth, where units actually get to fight back. At least when both sides are attacking, trade off the attacks. It's just disappointing to be able to go down with out at LEAST dealing some damage. Then at least there will be some counterplay! The person can either run away and hope to survive the volley and be safe the next turn, or strike back and have a chance to do some damage even though they will be more likely to die.

I would recommend the following changes be made after next turn (wouldn't be fair to make them now)

-if they chose to disengage, they will move one space directly away from their attacker

If this system were implemented, we could have situations like this.
Joe is 2 hexes away from Mark, and says he's going to charge mark, attacking as much as possible.
Mark says he's going to try to disengage and reach safety as often as needed to get away.

Joe goes first, he uses 2ap to move, and then 2ap to open a round of attacks.
Mark disengages (for 2ap), protecting him from repeated assaults.
Joe advances, but only has one AP left, and so finishes his turn.
Mark then uses his remaining 4AP to move away.

OR
if Mark says he's going to fight back

Joe goes first, he uses 2ap to move, and then 2ap to open a round of attacks, dealing 6 damage.
Mark responds by attacking back, dealing 4 damage.
Joe then gets another attack, dealing 5 damage and killing Mark
At least Mark dies knowing that he hurt Joe!

This also opens up lots of opportunities for enjoyable abilities - Like the ability to disengage for only 1ap and enable hit&run strategies, or the ability to reduce attack costs to 1ap without making it super-overpowered, and it leaves a significant advantage for going first (striking first is a huge advantage) but at least leaves the person who isn't going first with options and decisions to make beyond "hope really really hard".

I'd suggest Red vs. Blu if we didn't already have TF2 on the forums.

Green vs. Pink then.

Just don't make it penguins VS scans vs Pinks , since my avatar's got a scanned-penguinised-pink rabbit.

There seems to be too much to read in this game. This combined with my turn being ignored twice (once? is there summoning sickness?) makes me resign my position as one of the scans.

Ooops, seemed to have missed a turn. I'll fix that, but can you bold your moves in the future?

Turn 5

Knit Tie goes to the shooting range and improve his aim. [3] He now attacks with 1d7!
Taricus attack RolepGeek for [2] damage.
kj1225 kills GlyphGryph [4] and keep charging! The minion, seeing his master die, flee the battlefield!
Kadzar [5] fails to get magic, but get loads of booze!

Starting from this turn, we will apply GlyphGryph's idea for turn order (see the OP for details). Also, I change Bureaucratif Fast-track, you can now transfer those AP to several players (so for exemple, 2 to player A, 1 to player B and 1 to player C).

I will move towards the Red October Workers settlement

Edit: Will change this action if Zanzetuken agrees to heart shenanigans. In that case, I will move B2906(3 AP), where he will grant me the heart*, and I will carry it back to our zone.

Yup. Can you edit your post? I might miss it when you're running the turn otherwise.

Anyway, team static pretty much won at this point. Nothing the 'Scan can do to stop them. Would you guys like to do a re-roll on the same map, maybe another game style (capture the flag, king of the hill, team deathmatch?)

Haven't tried them out yet myself, but this (http://axiscity.hexamon.net/users/isomage/misc/svg-hex.cgi) online generator can output numbered hex grids in Scalable Vector Graphics format (which Wikipedia tells me (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scalable_Vector_Graphics#Application_support) is a format that can edited with any vector graphics editor or used as paths in GIMP) and this one (http://axiscity.hexamon.net/users/isomage/gimp/hexgimp/) allows you to use GIMP to make old-school D&D wilderness hex maps. Oh, and I suppose there's always Hexographer (http://www.hexographer.com/free-version/).

Turn 6

Taricus and RPgeek start fighting. Taricus [5] punch Rolepgeek to the ground. Rolepgeek, groggy with the punch only inflict [2] damages. Taricus [4] then smash his head on a rock with a boot. Taricus gain a level! He can choose between two abilities:
Corpse Mutilator:You gain an extra 6 XP when killing someone.
Fast hitter:You can get two attacks in before the enemy can react.

IcyTea finds enough gasoline for [3] molotovs cocktails.
Kadzar drinks some booze! He feels like hitting someone, but no one is there.
kj1225 pummel the defenceless a1s! [2][2][4][3] And kill him! You can choose between two abilities:
Charge: You get a +2 to the damage roll when attacking someone that isn't fighting back.
Regeneration: You gain 2 HP/turn.

Turn 7

Taricus runs into the fire caused by IcyTea and takes [5] damage!
MarcAFK charge kj1225 for [5] damage. kj1225 ripost for [3]! MarcAFK then attack for [2], opening himself to two attacks by kj1225 [6][2]! MarcAFK dies!
Knit Tie explore the chemical works [4] and find some nasty chemical vials. Same for New Guy [2].
10ebbor10 convince [6] 3 workers to arms up and form a people's militia!

Zanzetucken the Great bring the Heart of the City to town! He gains XPs I totally forgot to give him over the last turns! He gains a level!
Light Foot:You ignore movement cost penalties.
Ninja:You can cross hexes occupied by other players, as long as you end up on a free hex.

And the Statics gains the match!

+1, though some of that "accidentally" might end up being "on purpose". Maybe no punishment if they discuss it first? "If you hit here, you'll kill me, but you'll also take out these two people. Do it."?
