Title: So... what are the other two games?
Post by: Walrusking on July 11, 2014, 02:43:40 pm
I came across these accidentally on the Bay 12. I'm curious and I'm thinking of trying them, but I couldn't find a description. If I recall, they are Liberal Crime Squad and WWI Medic? Anyone mind telling me what they are? Thanks!

LCS is basically Politics Simulator: The Game. Anything more would spoil it.

Liberal Crime Squad is a satirical open-source text-based modern strategic political RPG. You play as the founder of a left-wing terrorist cell devoted to saving the United States from its descent into Conservative Insanity though writing to newspapers, volunteering, playing protest music, seduction, flag burning, graffiti, hacking, kidnapping, torture, murder, brainwashing, and other common and uncommon activist activities.

WWI Medic is a game about playing as a battlefield medic in the first world war. You are unarmed and risk your life to bandage soldiers who have been shot, gassed, bombed, or otherwise mutilated, without succumbing to the same fate yourself. Intermittently, all hell breaks loose as one side or another calls a charge across the no mans land between the trenches, leaving the battlefield in complete chaos with dead and wounded everywhere. Do your job well enough, and you just might out-attrition the enemy and take their trench. Do your job long enough, and you'll fall victim to the violence around you.

Truthfully most people are bad at WW1 medic.

But out of every game Toady made... WW1 medic is the one I consider to be the most "artsy".

In that in many ways it kind of makes you feel like you are in the war and the endless despair involved where you are just as likely to be shot in the back by one of your own soldiers then you are any enemy.

It is one of the few war games that actually gets it right when it comes to "war is bad". Mind you I laugh at the fact that it was all likely unintentional.

There are a few more games than just Liberal Crime Squad and WWI Medic.
Theres the Slaves to Armok: God of Blood (http://www.bay12games.com/armok/), which is why df is not in 3d.
The Curses Arcade (http://www.bay12games.com/curses/) is worth a look as some of them are entraining.

Now the subgame's (http://www.bay12games.com/subgames/) are really bad, do not play them there bad, so bad that they have been deemed unfit for human consumption by the very people that wrote them.

Indeed, one of the methods of execution at C+ Death Penalty is "exposure to degenerate Bay 12 Curses games."

How these "games" can be played on a Windows 7 operating system?

They run fine, but the content is... lacking.

Corin's Mystery Massacre is pretty funny. I only tried it once and failed at it miserably but it made me laugh.

Okay, Stumpy Wumples is the greatest game ever made.

Should I ask what that is, or just start playing?

For running, it does not even that on a laptop under Windows 7.

And who exactly coded these games?

I think Tarn Adams (original creator of Liberal Crime Squad and Dwarf Fortress) wrote them all, although I could be mistaken.

He did. They're copyrighted to his name.
Many of the games have readme files that say "Tarn Adams recommends that you do not play this game. Tarn Adams recommends that you delete this game immediately."
