Title: List of things that can actually be eaten in Adventure mode.
Post by: therahedwig on July 24, 2014, 11:55:57 am
I am finding myself constantly correcting on what can be eaten in adventure mode, so I decided to make a list.
Feel free to cannibalize this into the wiki.

I looked for EDIBLE_RAW in the raws. Whenever it says 'with note' means that Toady left himself a reminder in the raws that he should change that once the appropriate mechanics have been implemented. Otherwise it's just me commenting.

I've put them in spoilers so that people may find out for themselves what works and aren't spoiled here. Otherwise, feel free to correct what I've listed.

And finally...

Your third spoiler is relatively inaccurate.
I've gotten bitter vetch leaves in adventure mode before, which seem to be the edible part for some reason.

How in the world do things like cotton seeds satiate hunger or even count as food?  Isn't rhubarb very bitter unless its cooked first?

thanks for the list though i didn't know so much was edible. How do you pick it though?

Alright, I'll edit that in. If anyone else comes accross things like these, notify me.

:)
I was really surprised by cotton being edible as well, but according to the raws they are.
The list of things with 'EDIBLE_VERMIN' is even larger.
EDIT: Sorry, I didn't realise you meant 'pick it' as in ingame.

No clue about third list, but the first list is just 'g'->'pick spinach leaves from west' if you're near a spinach plant for example.
The second is similar, though you might need to climb into the trees if the growth hasn't fallen off yet.

Yeah I wonder what cotton seeds even taste like. I I hope one day youll be able to grow cotton for your own profit. Player farms are on the agenda according to the devlog.

And thanks I didn't know about that! I'll do that next time I play AM. It will make a nice change from throwing rocks and knives at fleeing wildlife so I can hopefuly shatter a leg and fest on their entrails. Even if that is more dwarfy. Mmm  pineapples.

Spiky pineapples will likely make fun throwing weapons as well.

Well, plants are a lot lighter than meats, and if that is not dwarfy enough, just imagine your adventurer as pop-eye, eating spinach and becoming super powered ;)

Haha that's true. I'm still going to see if I can kill a quest target with a lettuce leaf though.

The one before that hit him in the lower body making him vomit.

And two strawberries pegged at a animal caretaker crushed and then shattered their left hand. This game man.

I like the story this is telling.
"Hey, I can use strawberries as a ammo!"
"Crossbow bolts work better."
*SNAP*

Haha yes! That's exactly why I included both names in the shot to tell the story silently.

I threw a few strawberries at that first guy and one broken his spine's nervous tissue so he suffocated and then soon after I started getting shot at. I couldn't tell who was doing it so I used L and found the merchant holding a crossbow. I threw like 4 or 5 strawberries at him but he dodged every time, shooting at me all the time. I sprinted up to him and sliced at his left hand which was holding the xbow a few times with my copper great axe, tearing apart the muscle but he didn't drop it. I was shot in the spine from point blank range and was completely paralyzed and continued to throw strawberries, hoping to kill the guy before I died, but he dodged them all and started to wail on my head with his crossbow and it was eventually crushed. I have no idea why this particular merchant was such a crack dodger. Grrr!!

Such a funny battle. I love the new pulping combat rules.
