Title: The Halfway Haus of Madness, the Sequel! Day 20: Tiberium Fortune!
Post by: MaximumZero on October 22, 2014, 02:17:22 pm
Ladies and gentlemen, it is time once again to host the Bay12 Halfway Haus of Madness (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=98694.msg2889377#msg2889377). With the sudden surge of interest in Sims LPs, I've been told numerous times that I should revive mine. So, I am. There's a catch, though: it won't be updated super-frequently, as I don't have a lot of time to myself. I'll do my best to keep up with it and not let it die off completely, but I make no promises.

The crew so far is:

1: MaximumZero
2: Wolfeyez
3: Japa
4: Sappho
5: Vector
6: RedKing
7: Yoink
8: Capt. Kal
9: Tiruin
10: Sanju

Graduates: scrdest
Deceased: Barbarossa TSG (drowned in the pool, Day 13) Burnt Pies (magic jellybean, Day 14)

Waitlist: Vorthon, Boksi?, Sheb, NAV, Reudh, Caroline, MetalSlimeHunt, Shakerag, flabort, Sinistar

NPC'd: HugoLuman, Birdy51, scriver, darkpaladin109

Wolfeyez states that we always need more girls. I tend to agree. The lack of diversity in the waitlist isn't super-awful, but it is quite lacking.

If you want to join, post:
A physical description needs to be detailed. "White male of average height and build" doesn't really help me much, and if you give me one of these I will have to make stuff up. That stuff may or may not be flattering. Your call.

FAQ:

So, how does this work?
I'll be playing one sim day at a time, trying to keep the inhabitants of the Halfway Haus from killing themselves, me, and the other residents. Each player gets two actions per Sim day, and the rest is up to their virtual counterpart. Other than their two actions, I will not be controlling them directly.

Will you keep track of our individual money?
Probably not, although I tend to make a lot of money, so if there's something you really want and have a good reason to have it, by all means, tell me.

Can you win?
Absolutely, and here's how. A) You fulfill your lifetime wish. B) You make the top of any Career path. C) You master your starting skill and any two others, or hit any three skill challenges. D) You have a long history of good behaviour and show mental stability on all fronts. Fulfill any of those goals, and you win the game, move out, and let the next poor slob take your spot. You're ready to be out on your own.

scrdest has won via Lifetime Wish fulfillment.

What restrictions are on us?
A) You cannot leave the Haus alone. I have to be with you, and I can't leave the rest of the Haus residents alone, either. That means you all have to agree to go somewhere, or we don't go. No international travel at all.
B) You cannot be employed full time. You're in a mental institution halfway haus, after all. You may take a part time job if you desire.
C) No pets or overly dangerous things.

How do we lift those restrictions?
Restrictions a and b are pretty simple to lift. To lift restriction a, you need a Writ of Good Behaviour from me. It can be revoked at any time, so if you really want to go shopping or to the club, you need to be on your best behaviour all the time. To lift b and work full time, get a part time job and get promoted twice. That will show me that you can handle working without incident. It will also probably get you your own room. Restriction C cannot be lifted. Sorry, pet lovers.

Why a Halfway Haus of Madness?
Have you seen Bay12 lately? We're a bunch of whackjobs. Face it, we all need to be in an asylum.

What happens if I die or something?
Next person up. Your tombstone goes in the back yard (we're licensed for that), and someone else takes your spot. Tragic, but it happens sometimes.

Thus far: Barbarossa and BurntPies have succumbed to the Haus' madness.

What happens if I'm a background character?
I don't control you at all, you get no actions, and you don't live at the Halfway Haus. That said, the players can still interact with you if you show up, and I'll remove someone from the world for you to take their spot. That said, if you don't want to be in a waitlist and don't mind cameo roles, this is for you.

HugoLuman, Birdy51, Scriver, and DarkPaladin109 are background characters, currently. scrdest has been promoted to background character via winning.

What neighborhood are we in?
Aurora Skies.

I'm not sure if I want to sign up, and I need more information.
Take a peek here. (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=98694.msg2889377#msg2889377)

Is this a Vanilla game of the Sims?
Oh, hell no. I have well over three dozen mods and hundreds of extra items and clothing pieces that I play with. Expect a little bit of weirdness.

Which Lifetime Wishes are unobtainable and why?1
Need to add people/Pets to the Haus: Mosnter Maker, More than a Machine, Surrounded by Family, The Animal Rescuer, The Ark Builder, The Fairy Tale Finder, The Jockey, The Zoologist
Require travel: Great Explorer, High Tech Collector, Made the Most of My Time, Major Master, Martial Arts Master (possibly, not enough research into mods done yet,) Perfect Student, Seasoned Traveler
Require you to be Supernatural: Greener Gardens, Leader of the Pack, Magic Makeover, Mystic Healer, Turn the Town, Zombie Master
Buggy in general: Fashion Phenomenon, Firefighter Super Hero, Home Design Hotshot, Paranormal Profiteer, Pervasive Private Eye
Wrong neighborhood (Needs to be Isla Paradisio, we're not there):Deep Sea Diver, Grand Explorer, Resort Empire, Seaside Savior

I know that's a lot, but the way we're going to be playing is somewhat restricted.

So, here we go! Day 1 begins.

We have an amazingly swank pad, due to my awesome financial planning. We actually have quite a bit of money left, but I’m kind of saving that for haushold expenses. Day one began decent enough and got a little bit weirder as time went on. Exactly as you’d expect out of a house Haus full of Bay12ers.

Note: Certain people (Vector, RedKing, and Barbarossa,) always have a positive moodlet for…being around someone attractive. I still haven’t isolated who it is that hands out the moodlet, and why it doesn’t affect any of the others.

I don’t know how you guys get by on a handful of pictures for your updates. I’m using 45 or so of the ones I took, and there were plenty more that didn’t turn out the way I wanted them, or were irrelevant. Anyway, update ahoy!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
All in all, not a bad day.

You're just as good as me. More pictures, more smartass. That's all it is. (I took almost 100 pictures this time, and just used the best. I had to weed out an uncomfortable amount of Sappho's rear end, she'd always turn away from the camera just as I hit c.) Snap pictures of everything, and make smartass comments about it all.

Ha! Mine looks nothing like me. X D But then, when I used to play the Sims, I spent many hours trying to make a sim look like me and I never once succeeded. And apparently my face looks completely different depending on what angle you see it at. Seriously, several people have told me that. Maybe I'm not entirely human... ; )

And yeah, I hate having my picture taken. Sorry about that, MZ. I'm enjoying my character's behavior. Good stuff! Please more! : D

Wow, that was a good read- and I'm not even in it this time!
I don't know what it is MZ, but somehow you manage to make this game's various forms of nonsensical derpage hilarious.

I might do a sheet for a background character. Not exactly sure how background characters work, since I've only played console ports.

Dang, this is going places. My Sim is pretty good, but I'm glad for the beanie. That hairstyle is something else. (Also I have dark brown hair, not black.)

That Vector Sim is spookily close to the picture she linked in the photo thread, too.

I do love a man who's not afraid to set himself on fire.

What I don't love, however, is salad that's been left out overnight. Or, indeed, salad at all.

Action: Cook dinner tomorrow. Make it more interesting than Salad. Secondary Action: Secretly remove all salad ingredients from the fridge.

So, there's lots of stuff you can do. In the OP, I linked a list of skills. You may pursue any of them, unless they are for children or are hidden. Our Haus has lots of amenities. You can lounge by or in the pool, read a book (skill or otherwise), watch tv, play video games, sculpt, paint, play an instrument, climb the rock wall, train martial arts with MZ, request that I buy or upgrade something, work out in the gym area, jump on the trampoline, play soccer or catch, or interact with your hausmates. For example, if you explicitly want to tell off RedKing for fighting with Vector (or vice versa,) you can choose that. Or, if you decide making a friend or flirting with someone is more appropriate, there's that option, too. (Note: I already set it so that you won't flirt with the men of the haus. I listen every once in a while.)

You can set up two actions per day, or a default action in case you don't get back to the thread before I update.

No, that was Max White. I somehow tunneled into the underworld whilst mining in the garden, emerged with much phat loot, joined the army, and decided that grubby overalls were the right attire for all night drinking and table dancing. Amongst other shenanigans.

Hm... Well then, for sure I'll take all the logics as a default. With a side of tai chi if that's possible. My real life self may not have time for it anymore, but at least my digital self can!

So I guess for the next game day I'd like:
-something to work on logic
-tai chi if available, or if not, then video games, just like in real life!

Sort of, but you have to hunt for custom (fan created) content.

-tai chi if available
Unfortunately, the only martial art is "sim fu". You can work on the training dummy, spar with me, and I can teach you to break boards. That said, once you hit level 5, you can meditate.

That, or use the Store, which is the same but paid. But I got a bunch with the starter pack and used ALL the credits on longcoats :D

They are pretty nice, though. There's a military-style single-breasted greatcoat, an oldschool Inverness cape kinda thing, some businessy ones...

You should totally do this, and then the two of you enter the Law Enforcement career track.

Ah, okay. I saw tai chi on the list you linked to, but if it's not there, then no probs. In that case, replace that one with sculpting, but if there's even the slightest impediment to me getting anything done, default to video games.

It's not a chair! It's a life-sized *statue* of a chair!

I'll probably need to make another pedestal to put it on afterwards...

I appreciate the flirt-avoidance, though I don't much care if my sim is fully clothed or not.

For the next day, I will try to:
-finish that chair statue!
-learn to cook something tasty

I don't mind either way. If others are uncomfortable with it then keep on keepin' it down, but I'm fine with weirdness and nudity.

New goals:
1. Travel far (Perhaps not so far as a star, but further than the lawn.)

New actions:

2. Compliment my housemates (hey, gotta figure out some way to get a Writ of Good Behavior).

That's...hmm. I live a conflicted life, obviously.
In real life, I can't swim so I avoid swimming pools and the like, but I would stay in a hot bath or shower all day if I could.
Though oddly, I'm not bothered with being on a boat or hiking along the river in the backyard. I guess I just always have this mentality that if I fall in, it'll be like "Well, that sucks. Time to die."

Yeah, I do that too. I'm fairly light, but I am very dense and have a low surface area. I can swim if I go really fast forward to get lift, but I can't keep that up long. I literally cannot tread water.
Title: Re: The Halfway Haus of Madness, the Sequel! Day 4 is live!
Post by: RedKing on November 03, 2014, 02:46:47 pm
That was always my problem. Too damn thin, and the pectus excavatum means low lung capacity so even taking a deep breath, I lacked sufficient buoyancy.

I've got more meat on me now, but I still seem to lack buoyancy overall. And after three near-drowning experiences, I'm not really inclined to learn swimming and suffer through more of them.
Title: Re: The Halfway Haus of Madness, the Sequel! Day 4 is live!
Post by: MaximumZero on November 03, 2014, 03:24:32 pm
I'm not thin by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm very dense from when I was nothing but muscle. Then again, i couldn't swim as a kid, either. Like Barbarossa, I can keep myself above water by doggy paddling at full power, but not for very long.

Swim talk ITT? Well, thanks to playing the tuba, I have some serious lung capacity. I'm not very buoyant when I breathe out, but when I breathe in I'm very buoyant and have serious trouble diving. Overall I'm a pretty lousy swimmer, though.

I'm super light and skinny, I can tread water with half my body up out of the water... Hips and up out. It's a bit tiring though...

Huh, weird. I have very efficient lungs from years of running and playing the euphonium, but they don't hold all that much air. Couple that with my dearth of buoyant tissue and I have to kick very hard to stay above water at all if I'm not moving forward.

According to my euphonium playing friend, who has tried out my tuba on occasion, there's a world of difference in the amount of air required to play the two instruments.
Title: Re: The Halfway Haus of Madness, the Sequel! Day 4 is live!
Post by: Heron TSG on November 03, 2014, 07:19:51 pm
I've played both as well, though I don't own a tuba so I don't practice it. It takes about twice as much air to make a note of the same volume, since the instrument is twice as long. I haven't actually tested how long I can hold a note on a tuba, but with one deep breath I can usually hold a moderate note for 45 seconds or so on a euphonium. Indefinitely with circular breathing, but being able to breathe in through your nose while you blow out through your mouth isn't very useful underwater.  :P

tl;dr: The Haus is short on cash. Japa made §90 from work and fixed the computers. Barbarossa made §54 by hacking. I pulled in §528 with my mad rock crushing skillz. Vector has a super secret unknown seed. Sappho made another chair. I'm terrible at guitar. Wolfeyez made pie and cleaned everything. Burnt Pies never changed out of her pajamas. Also, related to the swimming discussion - myself, I find treading water exceptionally easy, as well as floating - i'm just terrible at the motions of swimming. (My lung capacity is roughly 10% larger than the average 22 year old male, at 5L vs. 4.5L.)

I could make those of you wanting cameos into background characters, but that would effectively preclude you from joining the Haus in the future, as you'd follow the storyline of the neighborhood, getting married, having kids, getting old and dying and such.

Are we allowed to invite guests over? If so, invite one of the flirt targets over and serve her dinner.

There is no way this could possibly go wrong and/or start complicated social triangles/quadrilaterals/icosahedrons.

Now, daily actions, hrmm... I'll probably find a mirror, neaten up and tell myself (repeatedly) just how awesome I am, then go play videogames. Possibly with my ol' pal, Barb. Good to have a household where loafing around playing videogames is the norm.

Day 7 is complete, and there was weirdness abound! Come get your dose of MaximumZero brand Sims Madness!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Cptn Kal, scrdest, and Yoink have all earned a Writ of Good Behavior and may now leave the Haus and get part time jobs if they wish!

Don't forget to post your actions for day 8. As of right now, I'm not taking on any more Sims (this update was over 140 pictures before I pared it down a bit,) but the waitlist is still open. If Japa keeps it up, there'll be at least one open spot soon.

Default for me. Learn ALL the music.

We should look into starting a band (or two) among the writ-tees, that way not only could the sims train together, but also we'd get to play at venues for sweet monies every now and then.

Nice! Writ of Good Behaviour for doing... not a whole lot, really!

Well then, new actions. Firstly, I think I need some new pyjamas. I mean, are those giraffe-print boxers I'm wearing?! Although then again, maybe it's warm in the Haus at this time of year. Whatever the case, I think I'll either request a pyjama shirt or just stop wearing my pyjamas all the time. :P

1: Do we have a stereo in the Haus? If so, listen to some music. If not, read a book instead. Preferably a novel of some kind.
2: Head into town and go to the bar, sink a few glasses of "juice" and try to chat to people.
Need folks to invite over for parties, after all. Plus, being cooped up all day would get old fast.
Edit: And after a few drinks I can show off my dancing skills! :D

FakeEdit: Day 8 is live! We've lasted more than a whole week, ladies and gents! Nobody's died. Cheer or boo or whatever if you like. I consider that a victory.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

So, here's the deal. The Haus is very low on money thanks to some recent expensive purchases (like a nectar press and a flat screen tv on the wall,) and it's going to be a bit before that Tiberium is worth selling. So, I'm lifting the restriction on full time jobs. If you have a lifetime wish that's based on getting into a career, I'd suggest taking up the offer before I change my mind. If you get to level 3 of any career, I'll build you your own bedroom, but we need money for that.

Get your turns in for the next day! Most of you are stir crazy, and could use some time away from the Haus. Jobs will help alleviate that problem, as will doing things like busking in a park, exploring the catacombs under the graveyard, and finding a nice spot to fish. Just not in public pools, please.

Question, max: How did you get your Sims 3 game running without that horrific script slowdown from Hot Date or whatever it's called? Every ten to fifteen seconds, the game just stops for 5 seconds at a time, full FPS, just not doing anything. Even with Hot Date uninstalled, it still does it for me.

Wow, Sims 3 is the most realistic online dating simulator I've ever seen.
As to the computer, it obviously couldn't handle hotness of my magnitude. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Kinda have to wonder about the older guys in the consignment shop and that thought bubble when Wolfeyez is shopping. "Yeah, I'd like to net that one!"

Also, am I the only one starting to picture Japa as Beaker from the Muppets?  :P

Next day:

I can't remember for sure, but I think I remember someone saying it comes from a random NPC sim getting stuck in an un moveable position, so constantly tries to path out to whatever it needs to get to.

I can't be sure of that though.

Bingo. And to fix it, I run nraas Overwatch, which auto-resets stuck sims, deletes abandoned cars, and prevents toddlers from wandering off their lots, which all cause massive lag. I run a ton of nraas mods, and they're all lovely. Go get them. (http://nraas.wikispaces.com/NRaas+Industries+Home+Continued#The%20Mods) Master Controller, Overwatch and Error Trap are absolutely essential.

There are opportunities that come up in law enforcement, military, athlete, and I believe criminal that have you either teach or learn martial arts. Unfortunately, I can't let you go to China and be a karate bum.

The height is probably a bigger issue (heh). But I actually look a lot more like you under different conditions, it's just that I keep myself as clean-shaven as I can and tried out a new hairstyle this month. Boom. (http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/careers/part-time-jobs.php) List of part time jobs.

Also, no. All the jobs, even the part time ones, have dress codes.

Edit: That said, you can also be self employed in several ways:

Skills that can be self-employed as actual work-from-home careers: Alchemy (you read that right,) Fishing, Gardening, Inventing, Nectar Making, Painting, Sculpting, Writing.

Other things you can do for money: Start a band or busk in a park, break rocks with MZ, write a book or comic book, grow plants with Vector and scrdest, tend bar, make a sculpture, paint, adventure in the catacombs (or invent the Miner and dig a hole to adventure in,) go fishing, hack the interwebs (if you have computer whiz,) get to level 3 in logic and search the galaxy for new stars with the telescope, or dig into alchemy or chemistry and make potions. Once you get enough money, you can buy properties and turn a profit doing nothing!

I could probably come up with a pickup line involving a jellyfish, but....yeah.

Also, I initially parsed your caption to mean that I told the married suitor off and then I asked her husband out on a date. Which is cool by me. (Can the Sims even model homosexuality/bisexuality?)

In any case, next day's actions:
>Go explore this mausoleum, see if I can do any better.
>Eat one of those jellybeans.

I'm worried that with all this fancy stuff, our sims are going to be happy and content and decidedly un-crazy.

And is there an easy way to level up adventuring skills? If yes, do that.

I must have lost my hat and my statue in a wormhole incident! Stupid wormholes. (Somehow I always lose my hat in video games. I could tell you many tales of video games where hats go mysteriously missing. Minecraft, Mario, The Sims...)

What's that? This is an Überupdate! What's that mean? Two days! That makes this day 11 and 12, of course.

Wait, why'd I do two days? Well, there was some weirdness with the stairs that took forever to resolve, and then going to the catacombs took up a lot of time, too. Between the two items, it literally took half of day 11. So, you get to enjoy two days!

I've thought about posting a character synopsis for everyone. I should probably do that.

This is not actually a double post. Why? Because I'm doing this. (Character synopsises took no time from the game, and only about 20 minutes real-time. Take that as you will.) There are some weird things going on in the Haus of Madness, notably with Lifetime Happiness. If you spend time working toward your lifetime wish, you get goals to achieve, and those help you earn Lifetime Rewards points. Being unhappy or having negative moodlets, like being singed or fighting with people (Japa and RedKing, I'm looking at you,) lower your ability to earn these points. Here (http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/lifetimerewards/) is an in-depth guide to what you can do with them, how you can earn them, and everything else about them. Sappho is the undisputed queen of Lifetime Rewards points because scultping a) takes up most of her time, b) works toward her Lifetime Wish, and c) is worth a lot of points.

Notable skills are those above 2 or relevant to our story. Notable relationships are those above 10 points or below -10 points. We all know each other, but most of us don't really know each other, you know?

Some of you folks are self employed in careers that allow you to work at your own pace. Burnt Pies, Sappho, and Vector get promotions (and bonuses) based on how much they create and sell. The "Funds to promotion" just lets you know how much more you have to create to get the next bonus. Everyone else that has a job has a regular one, where you leave home for a while and sell your time for money. It takes a lot longer to get promoted in these, but the money is much steadier. The rest of you unemployed slobs should get a job. :P I don't have a job because I look after you all and the Haus, and breaking rocks for gems makes a crapload of money. Surprisingly, Wolfeyez decided she wanted a job, and is following RedKing to work in the Bistro.

Anyway, enough of that, here are your characters:

Unless MZ burns the Russian Roulette Tree, this will likely keep happening. Instant death is a rare effect, but the sims of the Haus pop them like they're going out of style.

The problem with this is that if people are in the neighborhood, they're affected by the story engine. You're not static. NPCs get jobs, fall in love, make friends, get married, have kids, age up, and even die. If you want a cameo appearance without being in the Haus, this is fine, but if you're holding out hope of joining the main story, this is a bad idea.
Title: Re: The Halfway Haus of Madness, the Sequel! Day 15 was pretty peaceful.

Since we already have at least 4 creative types (2 who want professional author?) I'd be fine with NPC status.

I wouldn't mind getting NPCed either. I didn't sign up at first as I didn't think I had a change of making it through the list, but I wouldn't kind being an anonymous, unmentioned weirdo seen in the background of a pic hanging around the park for no discernible reason.

Post by: birdy51 on January 01, 2015, 07:31:45 pm
Indeed. Every story needs it's fair share of minor unimportant characters. I wouldn't necessarily mind making up a application to join the neighborhood as an unimportant character.

Birdy's NPC Application!

A picture or physical description: Caucasian male, about 5'11. Short, flat, brown hair with short stubble for facial hair. Wears glasses. I personally usually wear a T-Shirt and sweatpants. For Formal Attire, wear a black tuxedo with a red tie.
Five traits. Insanity, Proper, Snob, Evil, Kleptomaniac - Because why not!
A Lifetime Wish. Emperor of Evil
Favorites: Color, Food, and Music. Red, Ratatouille, Classical
Your Zodiac sign. Taurus!
Pick a "default action": Actions of evil.
Starting Skill: Logic

If it's alright, I'd like him to bring along an exceedingly ugly cat to the house named Mittens. Just make it look horrifying beautiful and we've got a good idea of what to look for. Otherwise, consider this an NPC application when you have the time!

Err, either I read this wrong or that I know there's a difference but I misunderstand the orange parts, because they do look quite the same in meaning here, as an end result. @_@

The difference is that NPCs won't be followed and played by Maxi-O, we will have no control over what happens to them, and they will only appear by chance if one of the main characters happens to run into them somehow.

Right. I've meant to state that if you've already submitted a character, you can just tell me to make them an NPC. IF you've not already submitted a character and want an NPC, submit a character and let me know that you want an NPC.

> {Overriding goal: Anything that lets me help other Sims as one action, either overriding one of the above!{

Today's actions:

Items of note:

1. Why is there music emanating from my crotch while we spar?

2. I'd like to think the pickup line was something about me being from NASA and wanting to explore a heavenly body.

3. Awwwww yeah. Kissed her so hard she was still reeling too much to remember our date.  8)
.....yeah, that's the ticket...<insert Forever Alone face here>  :-[ :'(

4. See?? This is why i specified kung-fu, THEN compliments. The wild Vector in her native habitat is not to be approached unprepared.

Day 18 actions:
>Play skee-ball to cheer myself up (before work preferably, if it's a work day)
>Call Aina and chat about stuff to build that relationship

I hope they don't actually do that.

Relativity (https://nraas.wikispaces.com/Relativity). It lets me control how long the days are. It's not really new, I just learned how to use it.

Items of note:

Your phone was ringing.

When do us NPCs get to creep on the windows?

I hope they don't actually do that.
I don't control you at all. If you come around, you come around. If we throw any parties, I'll make sure to invite you, but those are mostly reserved for big events (or when a Hausmate declares that they want to throw a party.)

Clearly I was in the pool to confront my fears of water. I guess.
Also, awkwardly imposing myself on my boss and her family was... rather amusing. :))
I'm not sure why kids always like me so much. Nor am I sure why I seem to be so fascinated with the chemistry set.

Anyway, Actions: >Investigate and admire the various pieces of new stuff and artwork around the house.
Don't enter any weird portal-y looking things, though- they could be a sphere of annihilation for all I know!

>Later, drink some coffee and sit down somewhere quiet with a book. Preferably a novel of some kind.

This is what I hope to do IRL today. If I wake up a bit more, at least.

Vector speaks Russian? I didn't know that. Wow, my Vector-worship-indicator just went one up. That could explain why she liked C&P while RedKing didn't. She got to enjoy Dostojevski's Russian, while RedKing only got a translation. Unless RedKing also speaks Russian, and you're all KGB agents or something.

I'll just say that Vector is a polyglot. Yeah. She's ossum. :3
And I need to read more authors and their works. I..have no idea who Dostojevski is ._.
I know. The shame. It burns. Ahh...

Also...handegg? o_O
That's...football right?
I'm unsophisticated! Ahh!

Also2, Sappho's inventions are tiny and cute. Little wind-ups they are.
...Somewhat reminds me of Mechanarium. But a ton more..structured and less clunky.

I picked "World Class Surgeon" but I can change it if you want me to.

I'm totally happy with that!

I tried to read Dostojevsky once. Didn't get very far. Soooo booooring.

However, knowing what I now know about Russian culture in general (living in a former Russian-communist country), I can see why it's popular with Russians. I saw a Russian film once... Just long, long sequences of silence and not really anything happening. Just like Dostojevsky! Don't really know why non-Russian-speakers like it, though. In university I always assumed people just pretended to like it in order to sound sophisticated.

So, everyone's thinking it, I'm just gonna come out and ask it: who won the game of handegg?

-Get that inventing skill up up up
-Play in the arcade

No one knows, as the game didn't tell me. I'm assuming it was not my favorite team, as they are horrible. They're actually the worst team in the league, and didn't win a single game in their home stadium this year. Meanwhile, RedKing and Wolfeyez' favorite teams are in the playoffs to be the best.

Ya govaryuu malenkiye po-russki. I used to be halfway decent at it, but that's been many years ago. My problem wasn't with the style or the translation, it was the main character. Raskolnikov is the biggest bipolar wuss in Russian literature.

Also, this idea that I'm a PSB agent and our rivalry dates back to the Sino-Soviet split.....I approve. Your move, tovarisch.

Also also, the fact that Carolina is in the playoffs is as big a surprise to Carolina as it is to everyone else. Thankfully, they drew the Arizona Cardinals last week, the only team that probably deserved to go to the playoffs less than Carolina. This week is gonna be ugly. Wolfeyez and I may have to have a throwdown match of virtual handegg to settle it.

I will also post to watch this, because it is hilarious.

Also, Sappho's sim resembles my physics instructor quite a bit. I could see her setting her backside on fire quite a bit, but thankfully she didn't have access to any of the chemistry equipment. :P

ROTFL. That is exactly how I felt prior to having kids. I did not hold any child other than my own. And when one of my friends (who now has a 1-year old daughter) held my daughter at the hospital, he had that same look of overwhelming terror, as if he had been asked to hold a live grenade.

To be fair, if a baby has been fed recently, it essentially is a live, random timer grenade. A poop grenade.

As I've grown older I've gotten less and less comfortable with holding babies as I realize just how much responsibility, not privilege, it is.

Me at 12: I wanna hold [baby cousin]! Is it my turn yet?!
Me at 15: Can I please hold [your baby]? He's so cute!
Me at 18: Eh... sure I can hold [the baby].
Me at 22 (now?): No thank you.

Question time.
How often are new sims added to the Haus?
I'm guessing it's when enough die/graduate.

What are the requirements to have a Writ of Good Behavior revoked?
I just want to know because I forsee that it will take a long time to get mine. ;)

What happened to no overly dangerous things? Didn't Redking fall into a giant hole in the backyard today?

Dingdingding!

Going to be honest with you, here. The Writ of Good Behavior was mostly a narrative aid that went largely out the window, and was an excuse to kind of force people to hang out at home and build relationships with each other. Notice that a few players (Yoink, Kal, Tiruin, and Sanju) did not really have to earn one. I wouldn't worry about it. Furthermore, RedKing and Vector have not lost theirs, despite being pretty terrible to each other. I really thought it would be more important to the overall story of the Haus, but it's taken a very backseat role to all the other nonsense that's going on.

I'm also looking to get the Haus back down to 8 sims (so 6 extra players, Wolfeyez and myself,) due to lag issues, so it could take a while to get into the Haus, although we have a couple of people on the verge of graduating.

What happened to no overly dangerous things? Didn't Redking fall into a giant hole in the backyard today?
That's mostly to hammer home that the Sims largely doesn't allow things like weaponry. The Haus itself is chock full of dangerous stuff, as is the town at large. Also, he didn't fall, he jumped in.

That's for people who persist in the Haus for a long time (I haven't decided how long yet) without meeting any of their goals but generally being well rounded, halfway (this is a Halfway Haus, not a whole-way haus,) decent people.

Wolfeyez is technically Bay12. She's a lurker, mostly, but she has an account. I'm still trying to get her to play DF, though. Aina, RedKing's NPC girlfriend, is a Hausmate.

I think it's to do with vector being trans.

I said its a typo ._. I'm drawing more attention to this that I think may be comfortable?
I'm unsure. :-X Sorry ahead! This is mostly me applying my feelings towards it, rather than anything else.

augh

i prefer they/them/theirs given the lack of any other suitable option in-built to the English language and due to realizing that the sie/hir/etc. is based off of the feminine in deutsch and english. pleased to meet you. sorry to be of inconvenience

I can attempt to minimize pronoun usage from this point forward, like I do with Cptn Kal, if you'd like.

IIRC 'sie' is not based on the German third person singular feminine pronoun 'sie', and also not on the third person plural pronoun 'sie', but on the second person singular pronoun of respect/unaquaintedness 'Sie' - yes, the capital letter is the only difference, and I think that in fact 'Sie' was originally derived from the second type of 'sie' mentioned. 'Sie' is gender-neutral though.

I believe MZ said at some point in another thread that he didn't have time to run this anymore. So y'know, yeah probably.

As a fellow father, I can confirm that babby is hard work. If I was working, I wouldn't have free time for stuff either.

Shit, sorry guys, I didn't realize this was still open.

I had planned to do a final update, but that didn't happen (obviously.) I can't keep up, guys. Every update takes me several hours and I'm already stretched to the breaking point as it is. It was great in the beginning, but I (once again,) took on too many people and had too much going on.

Furthermore, I have a lot of shit going on in my life, between baby and custody issues with my first kid, trying to find a better paying job, trying to get a real haus of my own and that not working out quite how it was supposed to, freelancing, staying away from the internet in general because I spend too much time here, and being sick. It's been...rough. I don't even have enough money to go buy myself lunch if I forget to take something to work.

I'm sorry, guys. I didn't mean to let you down again.
