If you'd like to oppose B-1-2 the rewards will likely be greater than playing as a hero if the heroes lose. You are signing up to be a "challenging force", you might not actually control a person, you might be in control of predatory wildife for example[or an ally that needs to be protected or escorted].

Known SGB12 Timeline
2015
Feb 15th: Experts are called in for a highly classified and urgent mission

Mission Writers:
To enhance the focus on discovery, we will not be using stargate film or television canon at all. This is a story about a military group that obtains stargate tech, and assembles a team to go in. That's it. Subsequent missions will be a response to previous ones. If you have a world or story you'd like to bring to life, pm me and run it by me, I'll see if I can arrange gameplay for it :)

RP or not I'm inclined to creating games with structured play, so tactics and strategy will be rewarded modalities of engagement.

Sounds good to me, thanks for your suggestion. This is a very rushed mission under suboptimal conditions. I will allow players to play as scientists. Tell me what you want to be the focus of your career. I may deny some specialties.

Why exactly would it be a rushed mission?

Irl, if something like this happened, it would he a meticulously planned mission with a massive military and scientific backing.

What's the reason for the rush?

So give a reason for the mission being rushed.

Irl, there would be mechanical probings first, a massive backing from multiple countries militaries, as well as the majority of the scientific community, and a huuuuuuge military garrison.

Sign up or read the post mission report. This is an urgent mission, join the frontline or the sidelines, I really don't care. Now if you'll excuse me doctor.

The show has the thing completely restricted in Cheyenne mountain by the US government for the first few seasons, then later the Russians come in after they activate a second, then a recap around six or seven brings in France, Britain, and China, then around the end of seven or eight all countries in the Antarctic are clued in.  Scientific community is not involved much, and, due to the secrecy, the garrisons are limited.

As for why it is rushed, we could be going in to relieve a SG team currently under fire, or assisting a group of natives in some endeavor where time is required.  We also could be going in to free a captured SG team.

Edit: As teams are groups of four, possibly five, in most instances, might want to have several teams if this gets enough interest.

May want to add a full out sign-up sheet to the OP.

Edit2: Can you change me over to Marine: Commander?  I believe my knowledge of the universe would be best used there.

I'm sorry, the only thing I plan to take from the show or movie is the core concepts of marines entering portals and completing missions. It's all new. I may allow people to be involved with writing those missions, but not for this 1st one.

To answer your question the challenging force could literally be a force of nature, such as weather, or wildlife. It could be a person but there's no guarantee.

Oh...I'm going to withdraw then.  With the title being 'Stargate', but not set in a divergent point in the universe, I won't be able to help trying to apply aspects of the show to this.  If it was divergent canon (running parallel to main, but what we do would change things) or alternative canon (ex. us replacing the units), I could have gone with it, but flat throwing everything out...

Well you could definitely apply the spirit of discovery. I almost feel we'd be doing that aspect a disservice if we held to canon. I will withdraw you for now.

My mind will never accept it as Stargate if I can't fight mind-controlled by parasite snakes who control the galaxy and named after ancient gods, punch beings that leach your life from you and have several mile long organic ships that curb-stomped the creators of the Stargate, or dick around with the technology of the Ancients, and that will only lessen my enjoyment.  Only part about canon I care about is the world.  Lack of the canonical SG-1?  Lack of the Atlantis Teams?  Can deal with it.  Lack of the Gou'ld, the Wraith, and the Ancients with them not having similar impact?  My enjoyment will plummet to nothing.  Those things are defining.

You're having a hard time making this something its not trying to be. But if you'd rather play trivia than have an experience that is about what attracted you to that material in the first place, ok.

You're having a hard time making this something its not trying to be. But if you'd rather play trivia than have an experience that is about what attracted you to that material in the first place, ok.

It is more that those are such major factors in the Stargate lore (admittedly, the first and third more than the second), that a universe without them is not really Stargate.  Hell, there wouldn't even be a Stargate Program without Ra!  Yes, there was one in the Antarctic, but that one was only found due to a surge causing the gate to jump to it.  The gate they used for the program for quite some time was one Ra brought to the planet when he enslaved it.  I can't enjoy the game with the Gou'ld not existing as a quite major power knowing that fact.
Title: Re: Stargate B-1-2
Post by: GameBoyBlue on February 15, 2015, 11:48:53 pm
that a universe without them is not really Stargate.

Exactly! You're getting it! This is not Stargate. It's a similar concept. but its not that Stargate. I'm sorry your enjoyment of that show has spoiled ever having a portal hopping experience, but that is your choice, and that is what this game promises to be. Take away the franchise from the word stargate, and see it as a scify term, you've arrived at what we have here. Don't let the similarities or differences spoil it for you, unless you get a benefit from that. If so then so be it, but I have spoken I'll I can on this point.

We thought we'd get there with ships. No. Not at first. Humanity would first go beyond it's solar system, thanks to the discovery of portals. Cake jokes aside, we quickly found we weren't the first. For when the first drones crossed over, and returned the footage showed constructs manufactured by other beings. A kind of cold way to discover intelligence, yet they were definitely out there.

However there was an accident.

Physicists talked about a phenomenon, a corner case where there existed the possibility for a tare. A leakage. This is exactly what had happened.

Hello my name is Max, I am the project lead, and I will brief you now on your mission. Time is of the essence, we've created a bomb, and we need you to get rid of it the only way we know how, by blowing it up.

In the secure room is the second portal created, the first will be destroyed if you return successful from your mission.

Max: Ok gentlemen, look sharp.

Commander Aster, with assistance from Dr. Richard Parker, you are to escort Sergeant Cromwell Jackson to the location of the anomaly, where he will place his payload. He will then activate the countdown. You will then return to the alien portal and return to base.

If Sergeant Cromwell Jackson is incapacitated or killed, the timers for the bomb will not be able to be set. Someone will need to stay behind and trigger the bombs manually, sacrificing themselves. Unless Dr. Richard Parker volunteers for this task, you are obligated to uphold this responsibility yourself.

There should be no intelligent life, if you find any, you will have to make some choices. The planet will be destroyed, if you believe you can assist them in some way without endangering your mission, do so.

If Dr. Richard Parker is incapacitated or killed before reactivating the alien portal, you will all be trapped. The nature of your mission may prevent a rescue mission. We also cannot leave the portal open, to prevent anything unwanted from crossing over.

I will not be able to communicate with any of you once you have crossed over. Do you have any questions about your mission?
