Title: The Slime Arena Turn 6 (It's dead)
Post by: heydude6 on May 03, 2015, 01:05:57 pm
You are a slime. For years you have been mocked and belittled, constantly being misrepresented in media. But no more!! Soon you will show the world your true might. But first, you must deal with these others who's only goal in life is to undermine you.

So this is an RTD were you play as a slime in an arena where you fight against other slimes. Your only goal is to be the last slime standing. Unlike most arenas, there is a huge emphasis on hunting other animals in order to grow strong enough to reliably kill your opponents.

There are going to be multiple types of slimes but since this is the first round (and my first RTD) I'm going to have to restrict you guys to one type (sorry)

The Water Based Slime:

Stats:
Spoiler: stats (click to show/hide)

I apologize if this is a bit much for you guys to read but I feel that I must properly explain what each stat does.

Character creation: At the start, you are given 3 stat points that you can then apply to the basic character template. These can be used to upgrade command, reverse-mitosis, or suction by 1. You can also at level 1 instead spend stat points to increase your mass by 5kg for each point. You can also change your starting density

Character destruction: the most likely way you are going to die is by being a victim of pinocytosis or by having one of your stats reach one of these thresholds:

Minimum mass: 21
Minimum density: 0.7kg per litre
Minimum size: 30 litres

Character Progression: As I mentioned earlier there is going to be an emphasis on hunting other creatures in order to grow. Each type of slime has their own list of things that they can and can not digest; as well as a method of how they digest it. Once an object has been digested it is added to your mass. Once you gain enough mass, you level up and gain 3 stat points (I might change that number if it proves not to be balanced) and on some levels you also get to choose a perk. There are ways to speed up digestion but you will have to figure them out on your own.

How turns are going to work: It'll be surprisingly freeform. You guys suggest actions and I will decide whether you have enough time to accomplish all of them in a single turn. If you can't, I will notify you guys and ask if you want to change your turn. I will then roll for them, adding stat and circumstance bonuses.

Starting Water slime actions:
Minor shapeshifting, (such as pseudopods). adds movement penalty
Change density, adds movement penalty
Attack
Move
Jump (also affected by movement penalties)
Engulf/grab
Expel
Dump mass
Split into 2 slimes
Anything else you expect a slime to be able to do

So these are the maps of the first arena
Spoiler: Local Map (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Whole Map (click to show/hide)

If there is anything that I didn't make clear please feel free to ask. Sorry for the wall of text.

You might consider calling reverse-mitosis pinocytosis, since it has nothing to do with genetic material and we're all water anyway.

And the Game begins

*Yawn* Today you wake up to a most unpleasant sight. Not only have the rocks suddenly shrinked, you have the displeasure of seeing 4 other slimes, an angry bear, a giant mosquito, and a deer. Not the best palette today but one must make do with what they have.

Legend:

Note, colour is only for how you appear on the map. In-game you guys are all transparent blobs of water. I will probably add a perk that allows you to change colour for the sake of camouflage.

What do the slimes do?

EDIT: Also a few things I forgot to mention, since you are a slime and therefore have no vocal chords, you can't talk. Also, no PMing actions.

Turn 1

Sludge

Attack the bug thing. Or engulf it. ((Whatever action is best represented by a fat man yelling "Get in my belly!"))
There is no way in any hell that a slime becomes faster than a mosquito, the mosquito strikes first.

Mosquito attempts to drink sludge [6]

The mosquito successfully jams his proboscis into sludge. He did it a little too well though and it ended up coming out the other side.

Sludge seizes this opportunity to engulf the mosquito completely [6+1 suction +1 jammed proboscis]
Of course since Sludge is too small to completely engulf the mosquito he lowers his density to grow large enough to envelope it. The mosquito is surrounded and then crushed. It's dead, definitely dead. It's eyes get crushed into a fine mush that you then immediately begin incorporating into your digestive system.

Now you remember why you hate these things so much. Quite dangerous and the only edible parts are the eyes. You can salvage a little from the rest of the corpse if you wait long enough though.

Size:60 litres
Density:0.75 Danger you are 0.5 kg/l away from dying

Blrg

"Brlg!"

Soak into lake water to add some mass, sacrificing density.
Brgle tries to jump into the lake [2]

Brgle climbs the catwalk and is about to jump in, but he stops. He is afraid. Why are you afraid? It's not like jumping into the water will hurt you or anything, but what if it does? What if the water is poisonous. What if jumping into the water is the worst decision I ever make and it haunts me forever. Oh GOD I CAN'T DECIDE, I WANT MOMMY!

Brgle spends the rest of his turn quivering in fear

David the gold

While heading northeast check out that barrel below the bear.
David the gold's stealthy barrel investigation [5]

David stealthy sneaks past the stupid bear and hides behind the wall. He then goes to the barrel and investigates. He sees this (http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31LfMrhZNXL._SY300_.jpg) symbol on it. Whatever is inside is most likely very toxic. You also determine that you will only be able to figure out what is inside if you actually open it.

Blobby

Absorb one rock an fire it at the deer, at almost point-blank range, if possible.
Blobby's attempt at killing the dear [2+2 suction bonus]

Blobby abandons the cover of his giant boulder and begins inching his way towards the pile of 7 stones. After absorbing 2 (that is how many he can carry before he gets a weight penalty) into his wet mass, he begins inching towards the deer in an attempt to nail it in the face with an almost point blank shot.

The deer is uncomfortable with how close you are moving towards it and begins to sprint. Seeing how you are about to lose your quarry you eject a stone from your mass into its general direction hoping that it hits.

Deer evasion [6+1]

Your shot is successful, it does indeed hit... although not in the way you expect. The stone hits the deer's hind leg as it is winding back to make another gallop, launching the stone in your general direction, the deer unharmed.

Stone to-hit [3-1]

Thankfully the stone misses.

Glorp

Glorp deer persuasion [autosuccess]

Before you even begin to attempt to create antler-like pseudopods the deer runs towards you and crashes into your mass.

Glorp suction [6+3]

Happy that you have a new friend you give the deer a heartwarming hug attempting to whisper promises into it's ears about how the big mean rock-throwing slime won't hurt it anymore. You are then horrified by the revelation that you're hugs have completely mangled the corpse. Ah well, at least you compressed the corpse enough so you don't have to increase your size to carry it. Also, you have something to eat.

ROOOOAAAAAR

Unfortunately, this makes you the only available target for the bear

Bear attack [5]
The bear swipes its claws at you in an overhead swing.

Your evasion [1-2]
Naturally, your first instinct is to jump up and take a closer look at them.

Bear damage [3+2 crappy dodge bonus]
The force of your jump combined with the force of the bear's attack removes a very large chunk from you.

-16 litres in the main body, -16 mass.

Mass: 24kg Danger you are 3kg away from dying
Size: 24 litres Warning! 6 litres below minimum size threshold
Density: 1

Suddenly you feel like you are a lot less capable of gripping things.
-2 suction, suction is now 1

Roll to not die [6]

You manage to keep yourself together for this turn. Adjusting density is a free action with no penalties (Since you rolled a 6). The chunk of your slime lands right beside you, already beginning to soak into the ground (you have lost 2 liters permanently). You automatically dump the compressed deer corpse as well. It's too heavy for you to carry.

(You can still realistically survive this as long as you don't make bad rolls)

Title: Re: The Slime Arena (Someone is already dying)
Post by: heydude6 on May 04, 2015, 08:32:12 pm
Sure. How long it takes is dependent on the dice (Having a higher density moves the dice in your favour). The average will most likely give you a -1 penalty to most actions performed after the shape change till the end of the turn . On top of that you will have a 2 turn "summoning sickness" (counting this turn) with various effects and a permanent jumping penalty.

You will also have to roll a d6 every turn to see if you can maintain such a form.

Well, shoot.

If I survive this turn, will I automatically die due to being below the maximum size?
No, not at all. You have enough mass at the moment, it's just that your current density forces your size to be a certain, well size that you just cannot support. You can either change density and I'll change size accordingly, or you can change size and I'll change density accordingly.

Since you rolled a 6 on the RTnD you don't have to worry about the usual penalties associated with shape-change. Also, you can't jump into the Heavywater Basin (I should probably clarify that this arena is the remains of a nuclear power plant) since it is surrounded by walls that are too high for you. The only way in is through the catwalk that Blrg is currently on.

Now that I told you this, you should probably change your action.

((How can I digest that mass? Is that an action or does out happen over time?))
It just happens over time, the eye mush should be done by the end of this turn. The corpse will take a while though (I suggest leaving it, it isn't worth it)

Ninjaed

Whoops Tomcost, I'll explain to you why I'm against PM's. The main reason why is because of the fact I want this to be an RTD that is fun to watch as well as fun to play. If you want I can PM you stuff such as information that you gain from investigations, such as when you investigated that barrel. Also I want players to be able to react to attempts to assassinate them.

So let's take this for example:

Slog with a pynocitosis stat of 11 attempts to attack Chell who has a 0 of it.

Chell notices the attempt on her life and runs like hell.

Now if this was Pmed this would happen.

Chell: Begin digging hole

GM: suddenly slog attacks and with a pynocitosis stat of 11 you die.

As you can see, it's frustrating for the victim and the audience just views it as a diabolous ex machina. Of course what I just presented to you was just a strawman but it expresses my basic ideas.

I will be glad to further debate this. Who knows, maybe the system we develop from this may be used to improve the Pm systems of other forum games as well.

If I'm attacked, retaliate with pynocitosis, or furiously launching the compressed deer in their direction.

Turn 2: Part 1

Sludge

Use precisely controlled sol-gel transitions to break open the mosquito and tear it into smaller pieces, in hopes of harvesting some more mass.
Sludge attempts to grind the mosquito corpse[3-1 Low density penalty]

Sludge attempts to grind the mosquito corpse into smaller pieces with precisely controlled sol-gel transitions but he couldn't get the precise part down, nor the controlled part either. Despite this sloppy attempt, the corpse doesn't look any less intact than before.

On the bright side, Sludge has finished digesting the mosquito eyes and has gained 4kg of liquid. Sludge grows 3 liters larger.

Blrg

"Brrlg!"

Horrified by his imagination, Brgle tries to escape the lake!

If he sees Sludge and deems him dangerous - there is only one that would survive! Pynocitosis!

Alternatively - head south to investigate barrels.
Seeing that Sludge isn't attacking him,Brgle moves south and looks at the barrel. The barrel has a Rad symbol on it as well.

[5] You assume that all of the barrels here have the same contents inside them.

David the gold

Move behind the bear and transform as mentioned.
David the gold's attempt at getting behind the bear[1]

David accidentally bumps into the barrel and spills it. What comes out looks like some sort of toxic sludge. David tries to sneak up on the bear again but falls into the crater.

Crater depth [4]

The crater looks to be quite deep and a bit of a challenge to climb. Not impossible but it will require some effort.

Blobby Part 1

Okay, here's my action:

Drop the rock, then increase size as much as I can to hopefully become more agile, then quickly move towards the bear fight and scoop the additional mass that was formerly from Glorp, then quickly grab the compressed deer meat and run away towards the pile of rocks where I was spawned.

If I'm attacked, retaliate with pynocitosis, or furiously launching the compressed deer in their direction.
Blobby drops the rock and tries to grow as large as possible

Blobby Increases his size [2]

Bobby's size fails to change. Tomcost, do you want to change the rest of your action?

Glorp

In that case, Decrease size just enough not die, then attempt to jump onto the bears muzzle, and begin to absorb its eyes.

You attempt to increase your size (not decrease, your size is currently too low) [1]

 :(

Roll to Not Die [4-2]

:-[

Whelp.... It was nice knowing you.

Your slime decompresses too quickly. This unexpected speed literally rips you apart as the momentum launches chunks into the air, and some into the bear. What's left is a watery mess. Your explosion also knocks over one of the barrels.

*Level 1 water-slime Glorp(Peradon), is dead*

(So this is a milestone for me as a GM. I've killed my first player :( )

Since you rolled a 6 on the RTnD you don't have to worry about the usual penalties associated with shape-change.
Quote
Adjusting density is a free action with no penalties (Since you rolled a 6).

Well I didn't explicitly say that you wouldn't have to roll although I do understand how you might have misinterpreted "no-penalties" that way. Usually what happens is that whenever you make any sort of shape change, you get a sort of "summoning sickness" that adds a small penalty to your actions. The 6 made it so that you wouldn't get that summoning sickness. Sorry about the confusion.

Normally I would suddenly perform a GM ex Machina and bring you back to life (since I feel partly responsible for the communication error and your death) but no matter what you did, you would have still died. If you tried to kill the bear, the bear would counterattack and kill you because you rolled a 1. If you tried reabsorbing your chunk, the 1 would have made you add your mass to the chunks instead of the other way around killing you. If you did nothing, you would have rolled a 1 on the RTnD and then died. That is the danger of playing a game with RNG, sometimes you lose no matter what you do.

The only thing you could have done differently would have been to hide from the bear on the first turn instead of attacking the deer. Sorry.....

Here are what the current results of the RTnD are:

[6] You survive. Changing density is a free action with no penalties (except rolling dice)
[5] You survive. nothing changes
[4] You survive. You cannot RTnD anymore unless you don't trigger it for 2 turns.
[3] You die
[2] You die
[1] You die

Since this game is still in a beta in my opinion. I would love to hear your suggestions about how things can be changed.

Blobby quickly and meticulously gathers up as much pieces of Glorp as he can. He manages to gather four 3kg pieces and the big piece that unfortunately due to time is now only weighing 11 kg. Blobby is smart and decides to ignore the deer corpse and not to go for the pieces that are guarded by the bear. It seems that he made the right choice since the bear ignores him and begins munching on the deer corpse.

pynocytosis roll [5]

Blobby instantly incorporates 15 kg of Glorp's jelly into his body

Blobby gains 15 kg of mass

Blobby grows 15 liters larger

It happens automatically. Unlike the mosquito corpse you can't grind it up to speed up digestion. As long as you don't mess up your pynocitosis roll it should be fully digested by the end of your turn.

-If David does not escape the hole, hurl the rock at him. From above.

Yes.

Obviously, I should not walk right beside the bear to do so.

Turn 3

Sludge

Decrease size to 49 liters. If I have time, repeat attempt to digest corpse.

Sludge attempts to shrink his size into one that makes him less vulnerable. [2]

Sludge just can't seem to figure out how to compress himself.

Digest corpse [3-1 low density penalty]

Nope. Sludge doesn't accomplish that either.

Blrg

"Brrrgl"

I risk and I drink this toxic waste! Let the evolution begin!

Toxic resource handling [3]

After a lot of effort, Brgl manages to knock over the barrel and get the toxic waste to spill out. As Brgl drinks it he suddenly feels a horrible burning sensation in his jello. Eventually as time passes the burning fades into nothingness.... as if there was literally nothing there. Then the burning comes back but in a different area, leaving the previous part still empty!

Intelligence [6]

Brgl realizes that the toxic waste is slowly killing him (Specifics will be PMed later)

Brgl loses 4 kg of mass

Brgl shrinks 4 liters smaller

David the gold

((changing my action))
While the bear is occupied shove Blobby right in my body!
David the gold tries to climb out of the pit [4]

After a long and painful climb you get out. You decide to celebrate with a happy jiggle.

Blobby rock throw [5+2]
David evasion [4]

Your victory celebration is immediately cut short by a rock hitting you where your face would be.

Blobby rock damage [2+2]

The sudden surprise of it all triggers a fear reaction that decompresses your slime slightly. As this happens the impact of the stone tears deep inside your body.

Stone in stomach, Density is now 0.95, temp -3 mass, -1 liter in the main body

You look around to find the perpetrator and you find him already running away. Oh... it's on! Furious at his cowardice you immediately chase him down

Blobby speed [4+3 size bonus]
Your speed [6]

You exert yourself to your fullest potential. You are so close.... you can almost touch him.... but then he gets away.

As you wallow in your failure you decide to look at the bear.

The bear is too immersed in his meal to care.

As for the deer corpse he was munching, it now only weighs 90kg. Although how much liquid you would be able to extract from it, only experimentation can tell.

Blobby

Okay, my action (this will involve conditionals):

To do first: absorb one rock

Then, the conditionals:

-If David escapes the hole, hurl the rock at him and run away.
-If David does not escape the hole, hurl the rock at him. From above.
You pick up a stone and wait.... you patiently wait to see if David claws his way out of the pit. After waiting long enough you decide to come towards the pit when suddenly David appears. Immediately you launch your rock at him.

Rock throw [5+2]
David evasion [4]
Blobby rock damage [2+2]

SPLAT!

Now you've really made him mad. Like a bull he charges towards you with a fury that one only sees in the worst serial killers. You try to run...

Your speed [4+3 size bonus]
David's speed [6]

You fear for your life as David chases you. He's running at speeds that shouldn't be even possible for a slime his size. He is gaining on you. He gets close, so close... so close to catching you but you escape. For now. You don't think this is over.

Your stomach rumbles.

Pinocytosis [1+1]

You almost feel like puking (how does a slime puke?) but you manage to keep it inside. Seems like Glorp hasn't given up yet.

Anyway guys, since this is game in my mind is still in beta and we're still waiting on Brgle. I've decided to begin a discussion on a few changes I want to make.

Now I want to make the following changes:

I want to make it so that if you have 0 points in a stat all rolls with it have a -1 and bonuses are added every 2 points rather than every single point. So 3 suction would become a +1 modifier rather than a +3. I'm worried that things will get ridiculous if suddenly there is suction +9. Instead it will become a +4. (nothing is changed with density, size, and speed)

Next I want to buff command by making it that for every point, you get an extra attack with your pseudopods if you choose to make any. So if you have 3 command points and 3 pseudopods, you can make an attack with all 3 of your pseudopods. If you have 5 pseudopods and only 2 command points. You can only make an attack with 2 of them. Does that make sense to you? I might instead choose to make it for every 2 command points you get an extra attack.

Finally, I'm gonna buff giant mosquito's

So what do you guys think?

Title: Re: The Slime Arena (Turn 3)
Post by: heydude6 on May 07, 2015, 09:41:16 pm
Yes, character creation most likely will be changed. Also changing density is free. Usually you'd want to increase it if your trying to crush something inside of you, or if you're trying to slap someone with a psuedopod. You'd normally want to decrease it in order to grow larger and get a speed boost. No matter what you do (unless you roll a 6) you will suffer a "summoning sickness" whose effects are determined by how drastic the change is and how you roll.

Also Flabort, you still only start with 3 stat points. Your current build is fine but your (with change part) has 6 stat points.
Title: Re: The Slime Arena (Turn 3)
Post by: flabort on May 08, 2015, 12:05:21 am
I count 7. But I figured if you were changing the balance so that stats had less effect, I figured that part of the change was giving more stat points so I guessed at how many and put that for the "with change" parts. Since the I didn't know if you would/how much you would, I put it in brackets.

Feel free to disregard the bracketed things.

Hey guys. It's me the GM here. I was writing an update and unfortunately I had to leave my computer for many hours. When I came back, I wrote down a bunch of things for the update (essentially I was updating my update) when I decided to click preview. I was then informed that my session timed out and when I clicked backspace firefox said that the document had expired. I clicked backspace a few more times and I kept getting expired documents until it brought me back to a blank slate.

Naturally I am annoyed and demoralized and will not be able to give you guys an update today (it's late anyway). To make matters even worse (I'm just whining at this point so feel free to ignore), this update was one of my favorites. It had well-written dialogue, the introduction of a new character (due to an interesting roll) and a lengthy paragraph explaining some new rules.

Since tomorrow I'll have the same amount (if not more) free time as I had yesterday. I will provide the update then. The same events will happen but the quality of dialogue may suffer. Next time if this happens I'll save my posts to notepad. I wrote down what I currently remember so I don't forget what happened (rolls have been mostly forgotten though)

Ah well, complications like these and how you handle them are what define the difference between a good GM and a bad GM. I hope you guys all sleep well.

Yes. I have experienced this pain before.

But also the pain of my computer auto-updating and resetting itself without saving the contents of my notepad.

I admit it's easier to do (basic) formatting in the browser, and spellcheck as well (Notepad doesn't, and programs that do take too long to load), but I do agree with recommendations to do big posts (like game turns) in notepad.

Turn 4

Sludge

Decrease size to 49 liters. If I have time, repeat attempt to digest corpse.
Try again!

Sludge finally manages to shrink back to a normal size. Sludge isn't comfortable with the sudden weight of his new body and it will take him some time to get used to it (-1 to most rolls for this and next turn). Sludge is unfortunately no longer large enough to hold the body of a mosquito so he automatically dumps it.

Sludge still trying to crush the mosquito into easily digestible chunks attempts to jump on it repeatedly.

[4-1 external object penalty] I think?

Sludge's stomps are proven ineffective. The mosquito's chitin is just too tough.

Brgle

Ops

Brgle copes with acid in his body and seeks something to eat. Try metal, plastic and wood if nothing more delicious occurs.

Toxic resource handling [1]

AHHHHHHH!

Something is wrong... very very wrong.... and not the type of wrong that gives people superpowers either. You feel an unimaginably painful burning sensation in you stomach. Suddenly, you realize that your stomach is missing. Oh, nevermind, found it. It's outside running around in that toxic sludge of yours....

What?

Upon closer examination your former stomach seems to be surrounded by a translucent rubbery membrane that you believe to be made of truly dead slime. Inside it is toxic sludge and what you believe to be some of your own slime. How is this even possible? Truly dead slime is called that because it is truly dead and incapable of any semblance of life and yet here it is... alive.

You decide to postpone these questions and your breakfast and decide to tend to more pressing matters such as the gaping hole where your stomach used to be.

Brgle has lost everything in his inventory

Brgle has lost 6 kg of mass

Brgle shrinks 6 liters smaller Danger! you are at the minimum threshold. You cannot shrink any smaller or else you will die!

You suddenly feel that you are not as good at assimilating stuff anymore. (-1 to pynocitosis)

Zot the abomination

Ah.... alive at last. Now what shall I do first? I guess first I shall break out of this prison.

Effortlessly, Zot bursts out of Brgle's chest and does 2 backflips before landing on a puddle of toxic sludge.

I... must.... gain POWER! [2]

Despite Zot's boastful monologue he fails to absorb any of the toxic sludge.

David the gold

The chase is on! Grow to the same size as blobby!
[6] David grows quite large but he doesn't have enough mass to grow to the same size as Blobby
[5] he quickly re-assimilates his dead slime and then grows to the proper size.

Density is now 0.72kg per liter (Warning! You are 0.2 kg per liter away from dying)
Size is now 55kg

Oh.. the chase is on!

Blobby speed [4+3 size bonus -1 circumstance penalty]
Your speed [4+3 size bonus]

At first it looks like Blobby is going to get away again but an opportunity arises when he makes the fatal mistake of stopping to pick up a rock. You ram into him and begin to assimilate his body

Blobby's pynocitosis [6]
Your pynocitosis [2+1]

AHHHHH! This shouldn't be happening! Why does it feel like Blobby is assimilating you and not the other way around?

RTnD [6+1 attacker bonus]

Nevermind. False alarm. Blobby wasn't assimilating you at all. You just thought he was.

You check on the bear again.

The bear still doesn't care.

Alarmingly, the deer corpse now only weighs 60kg now. Compression does a really good job at making every bite count.

Blobby

Throw one more rock! Keep running away afterwards!
You don't have any more rocks to throw, so you decide to pick up another one.

Your speed [4+3 size bonus -1 circumstance penalty]
David's speed [4+3 size bonus]

As soon as you finish picking up another 2 rocks from the pile (since that is the maximum you can carry without gaining a -2 weight penalty) you get rammed by David. Since when was he this big and fast?

You suddenly feel foreign tendrils inside your body trying to take over you. These must be David's

Your pynocitosis [6]
David's pynocitosis [2+1]

You give them a gentle tug and they immediately retract back to where they came from. You sense that David was overreacting to your pull.

Again, your stomach rumbles.

Pinocytosis [3-1+1] (I'm still keeping the old stat system for this specific event since the old stat system was in effect when it started)

For now, Glorp doesn't seem to bother you although you still feel nauseous. You have not made any progress in assimilating him either though.

I wouldn't really call it a multitasking penalty since most of the multitasking you can do so far is either unpenalized or impossible. I also don't know what discrated means and I already tried to google it. If you meant distracted, I guess that could work but I don't specifically understand why it is better than circumstance penalty?

Turn 5

Sludge

Go West

Sludge now tired of attempting to digest this difficult mosquito corpse decides to go west in order to find more edible food to eat.

[4]

There, Sludge finds a most peculiar site, an abandoned farm in the western charred forest. This was a strange object since people don't actually live so close to the reactor. Most humans live in the town that is directly to the west of the forest. He hadn't gotten there yet so he wondered why there was a home here. He can't tell what's inside the barn since the door is closed and all of the windows are blocked by curtains.

In his general area he sees 3 animals. A bull (represented by a drawing of a moose) and 2 boars. After further inspection, he also notices a slime on the roof. Thankfully the roof has easy access due to a tree that fell.

*Pinky(Ama) has joined*

Brgle

Brgle, quite shocked by his missing stomach, wanders to the east to see what this six-pointed thingy is.

Walking [1-2 low size penalty]

After crawling at a snails pace for a very long time, Brgle manages to fall into the incredibly shallow crater. Shame on you! On the bright side, the hole in your stomach seems to have closed itself.

Zot the abomination

Seriously..... The idiot actually managed to fall into the crater. He's not worth my time.

But still, I need more [5]

Zot absorbs the entire contents of the barrel.

Zot is now 30 liters large

Zot's density is 1.2 liters per kg

Ah.... much better

speed [3-2]

Zot stays still

David the gold and Blobby (combined turn)

Shove Blobby right down my body hole!
Hurl the stones at my attacker! Quickly absorb any left-over mass from my strike! Then run away, form the hopefully crippled individual with additional weight!
David speed [5+3]
Blobby speed [3+3]

David resumes assimilating Blobby before he can even react.

David pynocitosis [6+1-1 weight penalty]
Blobby pynocitosis [3]

RTnD [3]

David manages to steal 20kg of mass from Blobby.

David gains 20kg of mass

David grows 28 liters larger (size is now 83 liters)

Out of fear, Blobby attempts to throw a rock at David

Blobby suction [1+1]

Blobby fails to eject the stone from his body. Blobby tries to eject another one but Blobby exhausted the throwing capacity of all of his body parts. Perhaps if he created some pseudopods and had enough command stat points to use them to throw objects, maybe he wouldn't be in such a situation.

After his second failure, he tries to run away.

Blobby speed [6-1]
David's speed [5+8]

Deep down inside Blobby worked hard, very hard. He exerted an effort that one only ever sees in gold medal athletes, but to the outside observer, Blobby didn't even move an inch before David just ran in front of him blocking his escape path.

It's no longer "fight or flight" now it's only just fight.

Your stomach rumbles

Blobby's pynocitosis [5-1]

You don't feel nauseous anymore. Also, you absorbed 5 more kg of Glorp's mass into your body.

When you look around you see that all of the remaining pieces of Glorp's slime has evaporated (except the piece you are currently digesting)

The deer corpse now only weighs 30kg now. It will be one more turn before the bear finishes his meal and begins to look for something to wash it down with.

David the gold has leveled up. Since this is your first level up, you only gain 3 stat points and cannot choose a perk. The stats you can level up are command, pynocitosis, and suction. (please remember the changes to stat points I made that I still haven't put in the OP yet)

Far off in the distance, Blobby hears a church bell ring.

I won't tell you the odds, but I'll tell you the difficulty rolls. moose is 5 (Fun Fact: if you ram a moose with a minivan, it will survive the crash and kill the car). Boars are 3 (the tier at which animals are finally capable of fighting back)

Now that I look at it, I should probably replace the moose with a bull (remember, this is still a beta). I think the moose should actually be a 6, whoops. I won't change the image though, I spent too much time making it. I'll edit the post and you guys can pretend it's a drawing of a bull rather than a moose. Hello Everyone

In anticipation of the update that's coming up on the weekend I have an announcement about rule changes to make. During the previous turn Tomcost(Bobby) sent me a pm saying that
he was dropping from the game and then pointed out a few design flaws that I had. I read the Pm thoughtfully, considered everything he had to say and began typing a reply. I never finished the reply but here is what I had written so far:

Spoiler:  Beware wall of text (click to show/hide)
This Pm was huge and so i never sent it.

Anyway, while I was writing my pm I noticed another design flaw. Currently at the moment I have made it more rewarding and easier to kill slimes than animals. This is bad because it essentially renders suction useless. I also realized that this quote is stupid:

Quote
The sharp melee options are in the environment around us. For example, we have a bear that is almost indestructible, and we have a slime made of the most toxic materials known to slime and bearkind alike. It's all about exploiting an enemies weaknesses.

Not bad in it of itself but the main problem is that there is no stat that specifically helps you exploit the environment. Anyone is equally competent at doing it, which isn't bad but it prevents it from being an excuse for why suction slimes aren't suboptimal to pynocitosis slimes.

So in light of this PM I've made a few changes:

First, I have revamped slime melee combat.

Now when a slime attacks, they can choose to either attack with suction or with pynocitosis. The defending slime then gets to choose to defend with either suction or with pynocitosis. If a slime attacks with pynocitosis, then the normal system is in play but you make a contest against the stat the defending slime chooses. Victory is like usual. If a defending slime wins, then if they defended with pynocitosis, the old system is in play. If they defend with suction and win though, they are completely unharmed and are now able to attempt to run away. A slime is only allowed to attempt to flee if they successfully defended with suction now.

If a slime attacks with suction and wins, then they get to obtain a random amount of slime based on the difference between the 2 rolls (and based on the size of the victor) rather than RTnD. Also they don't have to get 2 higher than their opponent to gain something. Please note, the slime obtained from a suction victory has not been assimilated. It is still alive like Glorp's and you will have to fight it's immune system. The strength of your immune system is based on pynocitosis skill. A victory can turn Phyrric very quickly if you don't have enough points in it.

Now a few more minor changes:

So tell me everyone, what do you guys think of the balance changes? Update will come on the weekend.

It is great that you clarified what you intended for the PvE/PvP parts of the game. Also, the buff to suction is apreciated, as now fully specialized suction slimes won't die to fully specialized pynocitosis slimes. The new density and size damage concept is interesting. On one hand you can attempt to flee via high size. On the other, you can try to stand your ground with a high density, preventing some damage. It allows for interesting strategies and/or fighting styles.

So, I may give this another try, if the GM doesn't mind.

Let's see then...

Hurl another rock at my attacker, hoping to distortion his density even more and make it drop below the minimum value. Defend with suction, flee if I can afterwards.

I would join but I'm waiting on more slime types.

Mana slimes, Fire slimes, magma slimes, dark slimes, acid slimes.

Turn 6

Sludge

Grab a rock to shoot at a boar.

You look around and try to find a rock. Strangely enough you can't find any rocks anywhere. Suddenly a 10kg rock magically materializes inside your gut. Not the type to question magic you prepare to launch it at the first boar you see.

Your suction roll [5-1 weight of projectile penalty]
Boar evasion roll [5+1 natural dexterity -1 surprise attack modifier]

Despite the weight of the stone you manage to give it a good throw. The Boar although shocked by the sudden aggression manages to barely dodge the deadly projectile. Enraged, he and his buddy charge at you in a perfect horizontal line.

Boar 1 attack roll [3]
Boar 2 attack roll [3]
Your evasion [5+1 size bonus]

You can't go around them, you can't go through them, so you must go over them! You jump over the 2 boars gracefully. They continue to charge forward for a bit until they realize that you're gone. They turn around and prepare for round 2.

Suddenly, a bull bursts through the wall and attempts to ram you!!!

Bull attack [2]
Your evasion [1!+1 size bonus -1 surprise attack penalty]
Bull damage [5+1 natural damage bonus +1 bad dodge bonus]

Desperate to avoid the bull, you split in half to avoid it. The bull goes through the gap between the two of you. Due to a lack of the command stat as well as an absence of the perk that actually allows you to perform a maneuver like this, your double collapses into a puddle of goo.

-24 liters in the main body, -24kg of mass.

Mass: 25kg Danger you are 5kg away from dying
Size: 25 liters Warning! 5 liters below minimum size threshold
Density: 1

You feel like a newborn again.
-1 suction, suction is now 0
-1 pynocitosis, pynocitosis is now 0
-2 speed

RTnD [6-1]

The hope that comes from the fact that you can easily reclaim your slime allows you to persevere. The puddle already begins to soak into the ground (you have lost 4 liters permanently).

Worried about the whereabouts of your new enemy you take a look around. You suddenly see a bunch of rocks materialize out of thin air. You also notice that the Pink slime is no longer on the roof. Most importantly, you see the Bull turn around ready to charge at you again. He looks badly damaged though. Bashing through so many walls can't be good for him.

(since I forgot to draw rocks last round. I gave you a free 10 kg rock as compensation)

Pinky

"Grrrrllgle!"

Screw the safe way down! Drop off the roof onto that bull and try to ride it to victory!

[2-1 zero suction penalty +1 surprise attack bonus]

You land on the bull's back and but fail to establish a secure grip and slide off of it. The Bull turns around and becomes enraged.

Bull attack [2]
Your dodge [1!]

You try to jump out of the way but unfortunately get clipped by the bull's horns and dragged along

Bull Damage [6+1 natural damage bonus +1 bad dodge bonus +1 environmental bonus]

RTnD [6-3 Massive damage penalty]

The bull drags you toward the wall before crashing through it. You take a very painful blow as the bull plows through the wall and continues charging attempting to destroy whatever tiny remnants of you that remain. As the Bull charges through the house, you notice two other figures in the room.

Bull attack [3]
Unknown dodge [5+2]
Bull attack [2]
Unknown dodge [4+2]

They jump out of the way as the bull passes by. Before you can get a good look at them you are suddenly splattered against the second wall.

*Level 1 water-slime Pinky(Ama), is dead*

(To be fair. If you had at least one point in suction and therefore negated the zero suction penalty, the bull would not have noticed you.)

Brgle

Escape to the south. There is nothing that could be achieved here... Only death.

[4-1 low size penalty]
You effortlessly climb out of the incredibly shallow crater.

Before you can even begin to move south a tow-truck drives in thankfully not running you over. Three men come out equipped with Hazmat suits. Intelligence roll [5]. You believe that they came here to finally collect the toxic waste and clean up any spills. Not interested in being discovered you attempt to move south.

Walking [2-1 low size penalty]

You move painfully slow and barely make any progress in escaping this horrible place.

Hazmat guys are still looking around and haven't noticed you yet.

Zot the abomination

:-X Oh dear, they're here, they'll take everything!!

Can't let them! [3-1]

Zot ends up running right in front of the Hazmat guys

*Gulp*

David the gold and Blobby (combined turn)

All three to suction. CONSUME!

Also compress a bit. Don't want to die.
Hurl another rock at my attacker, hoping to distortion his density even more and make it drop below the minimum value. Defend with suction, flee if I can afterwards.

David speed [4+3 size bonus]
Blobby speed [4-1 weight penalty]

Blobby throws a stone at David but David manages to change adjust his density before Blobby's stone could hit

[3] Unfortunately, his new density is only 0.8kg per liter. David is almost crushed by his new weight and will have difficulties adjusting (-2 summoning sickness)

David is now 75 liters large

Blobby suction [1!+1]
David evasion [5+3 size bonus-2 summoning sickness]

Blobby's stone almost hits David but David just catches it and throws it back at him

David suction [1!+2-2]
Blobby evasion [6!]

David accidentally ejects some of his own mass along with the stone (David loses 7kg). David now only has 53kg of mass in him. David is now only 66 liters large. David loses 2 suction points

Blobby gracefully accepts the free gift. Blobby then throws the stone at David once more.

Blobby suction [5+1]
David evasion [6!+2 size bonus -2 summoning sickness]

David catches it and throws it back again

David suction [5+1-2 summoning sickness]
Blobby evasion [2]

Stone damage [3+1]

The stone hits Blobby and does some damage, still stuck inside of him.

Stone in stomach, Density is now 0.95, temp -3 mass, -1 liter in the main body (will buff next turn). With the added weight of the stone and David's gift, you now have a -2 weight penalty

Now that the tennis match was over, David begins to charge at Blobby in order to kill him once and for all

David speed [3+2 size bonus-2 summoning sickness]
Blobby speed [6!]
Unknown speed [1+2 speed bonus]

Blobby finally manages to outrun David and escape his clutches.

Everyone's favorite wildcard then appears. You didn't think I would forget about the bear would you?

Having finished it's meal, the bear claws at David

Bear attack [1!]
David Evasion [3+2]

David dodges the attack gracefully and counterattacks

David suction [4+1]
Bear Evasion [2]

David manages to grab onto the bear's legs pretty tightly. Impeding most of it's movement. David isn't large enough to fully engulf the bear though.

Blobby's stomach rumbles

Blobby's pynocitosis [1!]

David's Pynocitosis [1!]
Glorp's Pynocitosis [4]

While your immune system was absent. The tiny piece of Glorp assimilates the 7kg from David. Glorp then attacks you. You feel nauseous again. You also now have a -1 to most actions. Glorp is not done with you yet

This was where David lost his weight. The stuff that Glorp was assimilating was the pieces of david that were inside Blobby. Making them pieces of david rather than pieces of Glorp. It was not a mistake.

Currently my players seem to have vanished off the face of the earth, not being online on the forums for a long while. So I don't know what's going to happen to this thread.

You can always shove off the guys who don't post and make their slimes dissolve, or make another waitlister take control of them. This is a common thing in multiplayer forum games.

it's as alive as the players are. Once they finally log back onto the forums for the first time in several weeks, then we can get this going. Also Tomcost, the only slime I'm going to allow player control over is David. Sludge is in a near-death situation so I think it would be courteous to let the proper player decide his fate and I think I can guess pretty easily what Brgl is going to do.

So audience, make actions for David the gold!

Ninjaed: The dead slime is blobby's, I should label it though.

I think this is it (if the player didn't post)
Title: Re: The Slime Arena Turn 6 (That death was bull!)
Post by: heydude6 on June 20, 2015, 12:06:34 pm
As GM advice, I will probably tell you that you can only absorb an animal if it's dead. Traditionally the water slime usually drowns the victim first and then absorbs it. At the current moment though, only the bear's waist has been covered so far meaning that you are not currently drowning it. I would recommend you to try to break tradition and find some other faster way to kill this bear.

At the current moment you've submitted something I will call a non-action since what you are trying to do is impossible until the bear dies.

Anyway, I've decided to do this. All events at the abandoned farm have been paused until sludge logs back on. All we need now is a better david action and I will work on the next update.

Whoops, had this written down but forgot to post it.

Hello everyone, you probably guessed this already but now I'm making it official.

This game is Dead.

Now the reasons for such a death is quite simple, a lack of motivation. Of course where that lack of motivation comes from is a bit more complex.

First of all, after looking through this all, I realize that I am a bad GM who made a sloppy rule-set. One mistake that I sincerely regret is making the encounters dependent on dice rather than deliberate design (imagine if dark souls was haphazardly turned into a roguelite). The specific encounter I was referring to would be the indestructible bear of course. When I first spawned the bear, I didn't think that it was going to be indestructible but after looking at everything again, there would have only been one way to kill it (other than grinding resources and killing it later of course).

Now the second reason would be the disappearance of players. Pretty self-explanatory. I don't harbor any ill will towards them especially since they seemed to have disappeared from the forums in general rather than just from my game. I hope that they are able to resolve whatever was distracting them.

For my last words I just want to say to you guys that I am honored for having you guys try out my game and I am very sorry for not being able to continue it. I've learned a lot from this experience and I hope to apply these lessons to any future games that I host.

I might one day make a spiritual successor since I believe that this is still a good concept and I believe that I might one day learn to pull it off correctly
