Title: STAR WARS episode 6.5 (an RTD) Turn 12 | Waitlist open
Post by: origamiscienceguy on May 22, 2015, 02:26:49 pm
Disclaimer: This is not based on the books. This just takes some general information from them. You do not have to be a star wars nerd to play, But it is recommended to have watched episodes 4-6.

Star Wars
Episode 6.5

After the destruction of the second Death Star and the death of Lord Palpatine,
a new Republic was formed and prospered. Unfortunately, the remnants of the
imperial forces gathered under Lord Shadowspawn and disrupted the peace.
His forces committed several acts Piracy and terrorism throughout the galaxy.
Several planets fell before his onslaught, so the Republic assembled a team of 6
to take him down...

This is an RTD based on the star wars universe. There will be 6 players who are to use all the tools at their disposal to liberate several planets from Lord Shadowspawn and destroy him. All general action rolls will be a d-8 with successes ranging from an absolute fail (1) to total success (7) to overshoot (8 ). Combat will be represented with several duels with each character rolling a d-6. The one with the higher roll will take the difference of health away from the other character. Modifiers can add or subtract to the rolls. A modifier will not, however, trigger an overshoot unless the actual dice roll was an 8. Please ask if anything is unclear. Role playing is highly encouraged

Character sheets: Be reasonable. I'm going to let you guys be creative with your characters, but don't make them overpowered. (no lightsabers...yet)

Don't worry, you'll find some lightsabers on the way. But just for the start, to make it more fair.

Are we allowed to make force sensitivity? If so, how powerful?

Of course. Although it would require training/practice to be able to use it eventually.

Panceak, I made your character slightly weaker by adding -1 to climbing and only allowing you to use new equipment if you find an engineering bay. There is an engineering bay on the ship.

I will constantly update character stats in this (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1RQKd5jS_a2bJbA7JjiRUU_pJtCrmOvLJxQm58OtWiIU/edit?usp=sharing) google sheet.

What constitutes as equipment? And what made you make my character weaker? I'd like to know because I'd rather not die because I fell from a ladder, talk about embarassing.

Well, I want to make all characters start at about the same, and you had quite  few advantages. So, to even it out, I gave your character a slight debuff. (and climbing means Rock climbing, etc. Not ladders. This isn't going to be an RTD where I roll to see if you successfully walk to your room or not. It's more of the more difficult tasks I'll roll for.

Equipment is new weapons, modifications, etc. Anything you can pick up and use more than just throwing the thing. So a rock does not constitute equipment, while a pack of med-spray does.

Name: Alexander Raman
Species: Human
Gender:Male
Age: 17
Description: A boy of average height and build, with long brown hair. They have tanned skin. Their eyes are a dark brown.
Inventory: Vibrosword, slugthrower rifle
Abilities:Force sensitive, if that counts. slughthrowers.
Backstory: born out of the way of Jedi, Alexander never got noticed as a force sensitive. He learned basic things, and never had much trouble. That all changed when the fire nation attacked when the Empire was coming into power. Accused of being force sensitive, he was going to be executed. He was saved by others he knew. He wasn't  acknowledged as force sensetive unti the rebellion retook the planet. He was put as part of the team due to the fact he was force sensetive and had capability in rather rare slugthrowers.

Will finish soon.
Looks good so far. Your character currently cannot use the force in any way, but training can eventually build its power.

Okay then, how many advantages would I have to give up to get the equipment thing gone? Because what's the point in playing a humanoid assassin droid that can't pick up new stuff and use it like a human would, eh?

I guess you could carry it around in your arms, or maybe get a pack or bag of some sort. As you may have noticed, though, most droids are kind of... bare.

I decided that it would be better if I design the ship But I will take into account recommendations so far.

Name: Aluminum Buzzard.
Armament: 1 dual laser turret covering the hemisphere above the ship. One turret mount underneath currently with no gun. 2 single large laser cannons facing the front (+1 damage, but must be directly attacking the enemy)

Rooms:

Cockpit: where all the controls for flight are located. God help you if this is damaged.

Shield Generator: Generates shields around you ship. Replenishes 1 HP of shield each turn if not damaged.

Turret Cockpit x2: Required for operating the turrets on the ship. Only the upper one currently has a weapon.

Engineering bay: Has all the tools you'd need to repair equipment and the ship. Someone intuitive enough could also build some makeshift equipment if one desires.

Med-bay: Has everything you'd need to repair people.

Storage: Holds materials for the ship and for people.

Engines: Holds the capacitors that power the engines.

Reactor: Provides Power to the ship.

Name: He is called Harper among his friends, but to strangers he is mostly called The White One.

Species: Half Echani, half human

Gender: Male

Age: 27

Description: A rather pale looking man. His hair is white. His eyes are blue, and his height is about 6'2". He is fairly muscular, but not to the
point of being a super-model.

Inventory: Echani Double-Vibrosword, white robe, secret Echani Communicator.

Abilities: Is trained in the Echani martial arts, a keen understanding of military strategy, and is force sensitive.

Backstory: Harper had an Echani mother, named Karchi, and a human father, named Marco. His mother was a minor General in the rebel alliance, and his father was a Captain of the rebels. Before he was born, his father died while fighting at Polis Masa. With a new child, and being a single mother, Karchi left the war and returned to the Echani home world to raise her son. Harper had a quintessential childhood, for the Echani. He excelled in combat school, and when he graduated, he joined the military. During his career, he excelled. In the 6 short years that he was in the military, he rose through the ranks to the equivalent of 1st Lieutenant. At this point in history, the Echani did not trust the Rebellion, even if on the outside they fought for them, there was discussion in the inner counsels about a series of battles that could lead to the conquering of the Echani home worlds. This led to Harper's newest assignment: to infiltrate the Rebel's ranks, to report their inner movements, and their inner motives...

I'm going to give Ijiraat 24 more hours to compete his sheet before I ask for a replacement.

Untill then, I'll give the list of important planets. You will have to liberate tatooine first, but then you could do them in any order.

Coruscant: Republic Controlled. Home base. There may be some time between planet liberations to hone your skills here. Has many of the basic supplies your party will need.

Bespin: Republic Controlled. Manufactures any kind of blaster weapon you can think of.

Tatooine: Republic Controlled, but under attack by Imperial forces. This is your first target. Has men for hire to help on the ship.

Mandalore: Mandalorian controlled. The mandalorians are mercenaries whose allegiance is currently unknown.

Hoth: Imperial Controlled. Extracts raw materials that several planets would pay handily for.

Dagobah: Imperial Controlled. It is rumored that Yoda’s lightsaber is hidden somewhere on this planet.

Naboo: Imperial Controlled. Produces vehicles and small fighters. Most of the inhabitants are dissatisfied with the Imperial Occupation.

Kashyyyk: Imperial Controlled. Has several exhotic animals worth a fortune on the black market.

Geonosis: Imperial Controlled. Produces droids of every kind. Heavily guarded

Yavin: Imperial Controlled. has massive shipyards. Perfect place to upgrade or add on to your ship. Heavily Guarded

Mustafar: Imperial Controlled. The Imperial Stronghold. This is where you will most likely find Lord Shadowspawn and put an end to this war. Extremely protected

Endor: Neutral. Little production

For this RTD, instead of posting each person's status after each turn, I'm just going to update this google spreadsheet (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1RQKd5jS_a2bJbA7JjiRUU_pJtCrmOvLJxQm58OtWiIU/edit) with the most up-to-date information. Now, let's get this party started.
Turn 1
The group of six just finished familiarizing themselves with the Aluminum Buzzard when a hologram of Colonel Calrissian came through. "Special Task Force 1, I have just received word from General Skywalker that they need backup on Tatooine. I suggest you get there as fast as you can. We don't have time to waste." As he signed off, the group looked at each other. The first decision had to be made... who was going to fly?

Character Status
All members onboard the Aluminum buzzard.
Individual status (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1RQKd5jS_a2bJbA7JjiRUU_pJtCrmOvLJxQm58OtWiIU/edit)

Alluminum Buzzard:
Landed on Coruscant. Flight path to space clear of obstacles.
Shield HP: 10
All systems operational.

"I would definitely suggest that PI-07 takes over piloting duties." Malo says calmly from where he stands after the hologram fades. "I for one have no experience with flying anything, much less a ship as large as this."

PI throws his hands up in the jerky way of cheap protocol droids and speaks is in high pitched, chipper voice

"Jolly good, sir!"

He then lets his arms fall to his sides in a fluid motion. When he speaks next, it is in a deep, monotone voice.

"Commentary: A wise choice to let one with experience do this task. I can already see we'll get along just fine."

The computer pulls up the most up-to-date information of tatooine.

Currently, the Imperials have space superiority with a star destroyer having just destroyed the Republics Nebulon B Frigate. The star destroyer is occupied with other ships on the opposite side of the planet as Mos Eisly, but expect some Tie Fighter resistance if you come in that way. Mos Eisly itself is currently under siege by 6 ATAT's and several ATST's but they are not advancing yet. However, do not expect to be able to land in Mos Eisly. The defense is lead by General Skywalker with 20 mortars holding back the imperial advance. The Imperials have a small outpost near Mos Eisly where Captain Paulson is directing the forces. The outpost is not in range of the ATAT's.

I am going to change tactics to making the NPC's listen to your plans more. Since Anybody can make a plan.  I think I'll change the "tactics" buff to a "command" buff.

"If we took an AT-AT, they wouldnt know we had one until it was too late. Besides, I seriously doubt that they would keep their AT-AT's so close to each other that they would notice that there was a problem. That would be a serious strategic flaw on their part. After we take out the AT-AT's, it would be a free ride to Paulson.

Or we could go stealthily, but that involves more risk, in my opinion."

This brings me to another question. How often should I update? And what should I do to players who haven't submitted an action? Since this is more RPG than most RTD's, I feel that the updates should be longer than normal. I've put a poll up (or will soon, if you are a ninja)

The crew began discussing strategy among themselves, while PI-07 (3+1=4) familiarized itself with the controls of the ship. It also found the ships condition to be completely satisfactory for flight.

10/10 Shield HP
All systems functioning.

Spoiler: Galaxy status (click to show/hide)

GM Note: I'm going to add a mechanic for leveling up. If your character decides to practice a skill rather that perform an action, I'll roll a d8 with an 8 granting an extra plus 1 to rolls of that type. Maximum of +2. The exception will be to practicing the force. Instead, an 8 roll will unlock new abilities that gets progressively more powerful. You guys should have plenty of time on the ship to practice some stuff.

Turn 3

The team so far seemed to be taking a cautious approach to the situation, which could be good or bad. Harper (2) Swung his vibroblade around a few times, Malo (2) punched some bags, Wes (6) checked his things and found his equipment completely satisfactory, And Serion (1) Tried in vain to find a toaster, but didn't seem to have any luck. PI-07 (4) ran some tutorials and simulations, but didn't learn anything it didn't already know. Suddenly, a transmission from Tatooine was patched through the comms: This is General Skywalker requesting assistance from any Republic warships in range of Tatooine. The Empire has started assaulting Mos Eisly with ground troops and they will overrun our position very soon. I repeat, any Republic warships in range of Tatooine, please assist.

Turn 4
Following the message, Wes, Harper, and malo suddenly broke into worried conversation. Alexander continued to stare blankly into the ship, as he had done since he boarded. Serion (2) went to the Medical Bay and tried to fire a laser to toast his slice of bread, but was disappointed when the laser tore a clean hole through the bread and put a black streak on the wall opposite him. A few of the lights in the medical room started blinking. Dismissing the minor damage, PI-07 (3+1=4) launched the ship out of the planet, and used the coordinates and calculations graciously provided by Planet-bound computers to jump into hyperspace. It would be a few minutes until the journey would be done. It was time to prepare for the small skirmishes the Imperial Tie-Fighters would bring.

Turn 5
Now that a battle was imminent, Malo, Harper, Alexander, and Wes discussed who would be the one to man the turret, although none of them actually entered it. Serion (5) set Lucy to stun and managed to make some decent toast out of it. (added to inventory) It was a minor problem that the toast had a large hole in the middle. PI-07 (4+1=5) Pulled the ship out of hyperspace at an impressively close distance to the planet. The first thing PI-07 saw was the Imperial Star Destroyer fighting some ships similar sized to the Aluminum Buzzard, another glance saw Mos Eisly directly below. PI-07 did not see the two Tie-Interceptors closing in from behind, (PI-07: 3+1=4 vs Tie Interceptors: 3) But the sensors warned PI-07 and it made evasive maneuvers. PI-07 could either fly towards the planet and leave the turret to fight the Interceptors, or it could fight the Interceptors and make use of the Aluminum Buzzard's forward cannons as well.

Turn 6:

Now that a battle had commenced, Serion (8) started yelling encouragement so loudly that everybody couldn't hear anything else. (-1 to everyone else's action rolls.) PI-07 (7-1+1=7) simply turned it's ears off temporarily and expertly entered the planet's atmosphere. Alexander (6) however, couldn't concentrate on anything with the racket. Harper and Wes (Nonlethal Combat: Harper=2-1=1 vs. Wes=5-1+1=5) Both rush to the turret, and Wes firmly shoves Harper away and sits in the seat himself. Wes (Ship Combat: AB=6 vs. Tie Int. 1=2) then shoots one of the tie Interceptors with excellent accuracy and destroys it. The other tie Interceptor, (Ship Combat AB=3 vs. Tie Int. 2=6) Managed to sneak underneath the Aluminum Buzzard and get a decent few hits on it. (AB Shield HP-3) The Aluminum Buzzard was now close enough to the surface to see the 6 ATAT's all evenly spread around Mos Eisly. They weren't moving yet, and likely won't untll a sufficient amount of the Republics Mortars went down. Unfortunately, the Imperial ground troops were making slow, but steady progress through the town. Far off to the south of the city is the command center where Captain Paulson was directing the troops. There are 4 ATST's patrolling around it.

Player Status.

In Tatooine's atmosphere 1 turn from surface, 1 turn from space.

Turn 7:
PI-07 (4+1=5) brings the ship down and lands outside the battlefield, since the ATAT's would almost certainly shoot the AB if it were to land in the city. Serion (4) finds some magnets in the engineering bay and snaps them onto his suit. After the ship lands, he climbs out an emergency escape hatch and fires at the tie fighter. (Combat Serion (1) vs. Tie Interceptor (4)) But the Tie Interceptor sees him escape and blasts him where he stands. (3 damage +1 damage for ship vs. human -1 damage for exosuit =3 HP lost) Serion is sent tumbling off the ship and lies motionless in the sand, His bleeding stopped by his suit. Fortunately, the Tie Interceptor decides to head back into space. Wes can't miss a chance to take a surprise shot at the ATAT. (Sneak Attack: AB=3 ATAT=3) But his shot misses due to the long range and refraction of the atmosphere. Through all of this, Alexander (8) tries to focus again, and to his surprise, he looks up and sees a small bolt hovering off the table. A few seconds later, he feels the pain of Serion and knows that he is in trouble. (Increased level in force. Can now pick up and toss small objects and sense where his teammates are.) Malo remains staring at the wall.

Turn 8:
with all imminant danger to the ship gone, PI-07 (1+1=2) Tries in vain to fix the Medbay. Alaxander (3) goes outside with the intent of bringing Serion to the medbay, but can't find him. Serion (3) Is unable to get up off the ground. Harper (2) comes outside and notices only two things: It is hot, and Alexander is running around frantically for some reason. Wes (7) Is the only one who manages to do something useful. He makes contact with the forces in Mos Eisly and relays the message: "This is Wes Faltro to General Skywalker. The Aluminum Buzzard has landed and we are awaiting further orders." He is greeted with the message: This is captain Grisham of the Republic Army. General Skywalker is fighting the Imperial troops right now. What the hell is the Aluminum Buzzard?

Status:
PI-07: In madbay of AB
Wes Faltro: In cockpit of AB
Alexander Raman: Just outside of AB
Harper: Just outside of AB
Malo Hackru: Insife of AB
Serion: Laying Outside of AB
Details: (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1RQKd5jS_a2bJbA7JjiRUU_pJtCrmOvLJxQm58OtWiIU/edit#gid=0)

Vehicle Status:

Aluminum Buzzard: Shield HP 9/10.
On tatooine's surface, outside of Mos Eisly.
Med-bay damaged: half healing rate. (1 HP every 2 turns)
All other systems functional.

ATAT:
Armor HP: 40

GM notes:
Teneb: Now that contact has been made you and Captain Grisham can converse as much as you can between turns.

Ijiraat has been prodded.

A new rule I'm adding: If someone gets nocked to exactly 0 HP, then they will be incapitated and unable to do anything that requires physical movement. Any more damage and they die for real.

The Bunker's position is here (gives exact coordinates) You will have to skirt around two ATAT's and be prepared to fight several ATST's once you arrive. The Bunker will have several troops defending inside the compound and a significant amount of Anti-air encampments around it making a bombing run suicidal. That is all the information I know. I hope you know what you are doing.

Wes speaks to the radio: "Understood, we'll begin immediately. Aluminum Buzzard out."

Wes walks up to PI-07 and says:: "Just got our orders. We are to assault a heavily fortified imperial bunker not far outside the city. Command has transmitted us the coordinates. We'll need to go on foot and sneak past two AT-ATs. Once at the bunker we are to expect heavy resistance, including, but not limited to, AT-STs. We are to secure the bunker by any means necessary."

He looks around and sighs.

"I'd say we are to begin immediately, except I suppose we'll have to rally these clowns first."

Turn 9:
Alexander(8) Ignored Serion and went back inside to focus on the force. After his meditation, he found that he could speak so convincingly that he almost told himself to eat the ship's Brussels sprouts. (Alexander can now "convince" weak-minded creatures) Harper went back inside and made sure to tell his teammates via intercom that it was hot outside. He then suddenly broke out in some sort of chicken dance.Serion(7) waited for his head to stop spinning, then climbed into the ship and attached himself to the wires and tubes in the medbay. he began feeling much better. Wes engaged in some conversations, and nobody could find Malo.

Character Status:
PI-07: On board AB
Wes Faltro: On board AB
Alexander Raman: On board AB
Harper: On board AB
Malo Hackru: dissapeared

All other systems functional.

Alexander(2) practiced some more, but was unable to repeat his previous success. Serion(5) simply waited for the med-juice to fix his body up. He became very good at twiddling thumbs. (+1 HP)Gligarnel(2) saw the AB and introduced himself to the crew. because Malo had disappeared, the crew welcomed him. He saw nothing else. Harper continued doing a chicken dance, and Wes stood silently.

"....The heck....?"

After some recollection, he realizes he contracted a disease. He then proceeds to sock Serion in the jaw. He then makes a suggestion:

"Now that that's out of the way... Perhaps we can weaponize this virus, and release it on our enemies? It sure would make this easier, just suggesting our way to victory..."

Harper then reverts back into a post-virus suggestive state...

"I'm not stupid. In fact, I'm being smart and letting you get shot first, while I actually get good at something."

Wes turns to PI-07

"I'm thinking of ditching these idiots and just going on with the mission. You got any objections to that plan?"
"Resigned reply: I think we may not have any other choice, master. Idiots and force sensitives do have a knack for always jumping into action when it is already too late."
"Addendum: Though the latter also tend to pull a turnabout out of their nether regions with frightening regularity."

"Chiding statement: As for you, master Raman, your logic may be flawed. While you stay here 'getting good', the republic forces may very well get overrun. Speed is of the essence in this mission, master."

Turn 11
Harper (nonlethal combat Harper:3+1=4 vs. Serion:3) made a momentary comeback from the disease and gave Serion a whack in the jaw. He than fell back into his state of complete outside control. Serion(1) continued getting healed in the madbay he damaged and saw Harper return to a blank stare. He then told Harper to dance like a monkey and tell jokes, but he said it so quietly that Harper couldn't hear him. Alexander(6) practiced his new mind powers on the Brain-dead Harper and succeeded in making Harper do whatever he said. It was unclear whether that was because of the virus or because of the force, but Alexander didn't learn anything new either way. Gilgarnel also bacame blank-faced. The virus spread to him! Wes(4) Finds that he already has everything he normally caries into battle and PI-07 engages him in a conversation. It seems that these two are the only sane ones on the ship.

Character Status:
PI-07: On board AB
Wes Faltro: On board AB
Alexander Raman: On board AB
Harper: On board AB
Gilgarnel Fren: On board AB
Serion: In Med-bay (1 health every two turns.)

Vehicle Status
Aluminum buzzard: Shield HP 10/10
On tatoine's surface outside of mos eisley.
Med bay damaged (half healing rate)
All other systems functional.

ATAT: Armor HP:40

GM notes: Pancaek and teneb, you realize that you could just tell Harper and Gilgarnel to fight with you and they will.

Get vaccinated against the virus by the medbay. Retrieve my backup blood replicator and obtain a safe amount of Harper's blood.

"Hey, is anyone here good with machines? I have a non-goofy idea, but I'd need some techno-wizardry to get it to work,"

"PI, we are moving out. Fall in."

Wes moves out of the ship and towards the landing pad exit without waiting for a response.

"Wait, don't leave yet! I have to finish enacting my idea!"

Retrieve one of my spare suit gloves.

((Well I'm back.))

Join the sane ones in the assault, preferably learn the plan before attempting the assault

Ah so you are the guys that answered the call well the situation's bad.  We are being assualted from all sides and the defense is failing.  These are good soldiers laying their lives down for the New Republic.  Those men are counting on you don't let them down.

"eager reply: falling in, master"

follow Wes
"Hmph. Hey, Harper, are you any good at machines? If you are, could you fetch me one of whatever holds these droids' consciousnesses? Preferably one of a crew member, if possible."

Do not follow the group, but still keep track of them via their comms.

Don't worry, I'm not going to kill you, I'm just going to turn you into a obedience virus delivering scorpion thing.

Turrn 12
Serion(8)uses the medbay to synthesize a vaccine for the virus that Harper got. He then attempted to gain a sample of Harper's blood,(added to inventory) but got so much that Harper turned pale. (-1 HP) Ignoring Harper's state, he dons his gloves. During all of this, the med-bay was healing his injuries (+1 HP) Harper endured the torture Serion gave him, and answered Serion's question. Machines are not in my area of expertise.During all this, Alexander(1) again failed to learn any new force tricks. Wes(3+1=4) makes a convincing and commanding declaration to all the sane members of the crew and prepares to fulfill the reason the crew came to this planet. It became clear that he was the leader of this party. PI-07,(7+1=8) eager to attack the Imperials, rushes to Wes' side and prepares himself to fight. Gilgarnel, (2+1=3) is much less enthusiastic than PI-07, he drags his feet and only barely keeps up with Wes's pace.

Character Status:
PI-07: Outside AB, following Wes
Wes Faltro: Outside AB, leading PI-07 and Gilgarnel
Alexander Raman: On board AB
Harper: On board AB
Gilgarnel Fren: Outside AB, Following Wes
Serion: In Med-bay (1 health every two turns.)

Vehicle Status
Aluminum buzzard: Shield HP 10/10
On tatoine's surface outside of mos eisley.
Med bay damaged (half healing rate)
All other systems functional.

ATAT: Armor HP:40

GM notes: I have decided that the "command" trait will give buffs to all characters under that character's command. In this situation, Wes is commanding Gilgarnel and PI-07

Move in a somewhat stealthy way to the outskirts of the city. Look for any stormtrooper patrols.

We do have an ambush spot planned right?  Or are we just going to walk up to a patrol and kindly ask for their armor? Actually do we know if the Republic base already has storm trooper armor?

acquire storm trooper armor from the New Republic base, otherwise Stealthly follow the stealthy guy in search of a patrol
